Customize the Filter HUD

Is is possible to customize the Filter HUD?
I don't use the Flagged or *Color Label* options often, but would like Calendar to be part of the filter every time.
Can I remove the ones I don't use and add calendar? If so how would I do that?
TIA
Jerry

Ray,
Thanks for the response. I am aware of the controls you mentioned and, of course, I have had to use them.
I'm just a little put out that for this kind of filter I have no better control of the filter items than this. As I said earlier I almost never flag or color images and almost ALWAYS use the calendar so it becomes a huge PIA to delete and add these filters every time I want to look for and/or work on specifically dated images.
I think I ought to be able to designate the default filter items.
Thanks again for your interest and assistance.
Jerry
I am very new to Ap3 so ignore me if it is't what you are looking for

  • I have a question about the filter hud in aperture 3.

I have a large project (4000 images) and I can't display filter hud.  The hud shows in all my other projects (including albums that are part of this project) but not when I am at the project level.  can anyone suggest a solution?

    Frank, thanks for the help.
I have rebuilt the Aperture preferences, rebuilt the database and after all that I have selected browser view and tried to use the filter hud.  Still no luck.
The strange thing is that I can call up the filter hud in another project and switch to the "problem" project and the hud stays visible.  But i can't launch the hud while I'm in the large project.

  • "Using the Filter HUD to Search for Referenced Files" (and "Locate Referenced Files")

I am trying to follow the Help Documentation item "Using the Filter HUD to Search for Referenced Master" (not sure if there is a way to post a URL to this) and I am not seeing what it is telling me to do.
I am going to Edit > Find and it is telling me to "Click the Filter HUD button beside the search field in the Browser". Is this referring to a browser in the Aperture UI or is this in the Filter HUD display? I am not finding this.
Also, it saying that in the Filter HUD I should "choose File Status from the Add Filter pop-up menu, and select the 'File Status' checkbox." and I am not seeing this either. Does anyone know where this is at?
Lastly, I see that there is a command called File > Locate Referenced Files and when I run this I get a "No Referenced Files in the /current/ selection. I have realized that I don't quite understand whether I am running this search for a specific Project and/or whether I have to make a specific selection in the left hand pane when I run a FILTER HUD or whether this automatically defaults to search the whole database. Does it matter what I have selected in the current Browser View when I run either of these commands?
Thanks for any help in my getting this working better for me.

    1.  Just copy and paste the URL from the on-line User Manual.  Very helpful.  Are you on this page?
    2.  From the above-linked page:
Show the Filter HUD by doing one of the following:
Choose Edit > Find (or press Command-F).
Click the Filter HUD button beside the search field in the Browser.
The instructions specify ONE of the following.  Your question indicates to me that you are trying to do both.
    3.  The User Manual has used the wrong term here.  It should say "Choose 'File Status' from the 'Add RULE' pop-up menu."
    4.  The command -- like all commands? -- works on the currently selected Images.  On the same page in the User Manual it says:
    You can select a group of images in the Browser and Aperture can show a list of the referenced images within the selection, including information about where the masters are located. {Emphasis mine.}
    5.  The Aperture workspace is highly configurable.  I don't know what you mean by "the left-hand pane".  Of what?
    6.  Yes.  Of course it matters.  At some point in the 80's when the GUI became standard computers standardized on the "Noun→Verb" syntax:  Select object(s), select command(s).
    7.  Not sure what the second command to which your refer is.

  • How to increase the choice of possible filter items in the filter HUD?

    Hi there,
didn't know how to exactly formulate a nice header for my question.
    Here goes:
In the filter HUD, I can add a new rule to search for, and choose "Aperture Metadata" as
the source of possible tags. However, for some reason, the choice of tags I am confronted
with is not exhaustive; for example, the Aperture tag "Badges" is not in the list
of tags that one can search for in the filter HUD.
To solve my immediate problem, I would like to know how I can search for specific values of the
tag "Badges" that is part of the "Aperture" Metadata Field.
On a more general note, I would like to know how one can add or delete choices that the filter HUD offers.
For example, if I add a custom field, what do I have to do to make it searchable in the filter HUD?
    Thanks for any help!

Maybe we do not use the word "Metadata" in the same way.
The only issue I see is this:
. "Badges" are not metadata. They are icons which indicate metadata. The distinction is important in this discussion, because "Badges" is not a family of metadata, other than being the family of metadata to which the Aperture design team has assigned icons which can be shown in some views. It is important to understand that while the badge is a member of the set "Metadata which Aperture shows as an icon", the actual metadata indicated by the badge is a member of an actual metadata set. With apologies for being cute, "Badges" are meta-metadata.
I had the following proposition: not all metadata is searchable.
I believe this is correct, but not as widespread as you indicate.
I then proofed this proposition by showing that Aperture can search for specific
values of the "badges" tag ("locate referenced files"->"show only files not found"), and
went on by claiming that the filter HUD does not offer to do this exact same search.
"Badges" is not a tag, nor is it metadata in the sense you are using the term.
The Filter HUD may do what you are asking. As I posted in direct response in another message in this thread, I think the two-rule "and"-type filter
    . File Status is Referenced
    . File Status is Missing
    will do what you want.
As always, I cannot conclusively prove what Aperture cannot do, I can only say that I did not find this option in the filter HUD, and would be happy if anyone told me how to do it.
If I turn out to be correct, you are welcome.
    This was just one example.
Judging from my lists cited in one of my posts above, one is tempted to think that Aperture's filter HUD is not capable of searching for "Badges", "Flag", "Import Session", "Label", "Last Modified Date", and "Rating".
All of these Items appear in the "Aperture" Section of the "Metadata Fields" in the "Metadata View" dialog that opens when you hit "edit" on the drop-down box in the Metadata Pane of the Inspector, but do not appear in the "Aperture Metadata" list of items in the filter HUD.
It turns out that all but "Badges" and "Last Modified Date" are items that can be searched for in
the filter HUD; The other candidates for "non-searchability" ("Flag","Label", "Last Modified Date", and "Rating") do not appear in the "Aperture Metadata" part of the filter HUD, where you would expect them, but they exist in other parts of the filter HUD.
There is some sense to this. I will add, however, that they do not appear where you expect them (logically, btw), does not mean that they do not appear where others expect them. Our expectations are ruled more by experience than by logic.
Flag status is, in Aperture, what might be described as a privileged metadata field. There is an entire apparatus for flagging, un-flagging, and viewing flagged items; no other metadata has been accorded such privilege (a hot key, the click-able flag hotspot, the flag overlay, the Flag View).
"Label" is also (using my nomenclature) a "privileged" metadata field (just not as privileged as "Flag").
    Likewise "Rating".
While I therefore was able to search for some Metadata fields of the "Aperture" part of the Metadata Field ("Flag","Label", "Import Session", and "Rating", in addition to all items listed in the "Aperture Metadata" option in the filter HUD), I was completely unable to search for others ("Badges" and "Last Modified Date").
See my comments on Badges above.
"Last Modified Date" is a special case. There was a good (iirc) thread about this earlier. I will look for it. Iirc, you can get LMD to show in List view, but you cannot search for it. This is silly -- worth a feature request to Apple. LMD is the only metadata I know of (not, perhaps, saying much) that is not searchable via the Filter HUD.
I therefore think that I did proof (to the extent I am capable of) that not all metadata is searchable - and my question simply is "how do I make these metadata searchable". Or, alternatively, "how do I control the metadata items that the filter HUD allows me to search for".
Yours is a very synthetic approach, which I applaud. The audience for your questions, however, is more properly the Aperture designers, and not fellow users. The only way I can answer your questions is when you specify what it is you are trying to do (for example above: filter your images for referenced and missing). Please ask about whatever specific things you are unable to do.
    Hope that helps.
    Kirby.

  • Can we customize the column name in filter view?

When i select filter view and select an option from the drop down, it shows the name of the column and not the variable set in the prompt.
I want to customize that name so that it does not show the column name, shows the name given by us instead.
    Please Help!!!

You can't customize the filter view, play around with the narrative view instead.

  • Missing Filter HUD for a specific project

I have one project in which I cannot get the Filter HUD to appear. When I click on the icon, nothing happens. It works fine for my other projects. I've repaired the database and permissions, but this did not solve the problem. Any ideas?

The issue resolved itself, somehow. It is now working.

  • Filter hud performance profiling results

I was really curious why it took so long for the filter hud to open and I think I may have at least a partial answer. I used the awesome Sampler and fs_usage tools that come with the developer kit. I started profiling and pushed the filter button. Here's what I found:
    1) A bunch of database access happens in the main thread. When you push the filter hud button you loose control of the application (SBOD) until the query is complete. I'm guessing it's asking the database which keywords exist in the currently selected project so it can make filter buttons for them. Why does a query of 600 images take 10 seconds...
    2) Whenever you push the filter hud button thousands of little seeks and reads happen on the hard disk. I'm assuming this is the bottleneck.
Is this interesting to anyone? It's wandering off the standard subject matter a bit. However, performance is abysmal and knowing is half the battle!
Dual 1.8 G5   Mac OS X (10.4.3)   1GB RAM, Sony Artisan Monitor, Sony HC-1 HD Camera

I've dissected the SQLite database that Aperture uses. My current best guess is that either Aperture is doing something wrong with SQLite or it's doing extra queries that I don't understand. I recreated the database query that gives you a list of keywords for all images in the working set. It only took between 1/4 and 1/2 second to execute. Opening the filter hud in Aperture with the same working set of images takes over 3 seconds.
I've posted more detailed information on my site. It includes an overview of the database structure.
    http://www.mungosmash.com/archives/2005/12/theapertureda.php
This is good news to me. It means the Aperture guys only have themselves to blame and should be able to speed it up considerably since the db is fast.

  • Deleting keywords in filter HUD

I have many keywords in my aperture filter HUD that I want to delete -- like typos and keywords I no longer use. I know how to delete them from the keyword HUD, but I can't figure out how to delete them from the filter HUD that pops up when I try to create a smart album. Can anyone tell me how to delete keywords from the filter HUD? Also I have duplicate keywords from importing from iphoto, so the filter HUD will list as separate keywords: soccer (iPhoto) and soccer. I would like to have just one keyword for soccer.
    Thanks for the help.

    fcandy wrote:
Thanks, but my Mac doesn't have a backspace key and delete doesn't work. Is there something else I should be pressing?
William was referring to the Keyword HUD (and on my MBP, "{fn}+{delete}" equals backspace). There is a "Delete Keyword" button in the tool-strip located in the bottom border of the Keyword HUD.
Kirby, I understand that your suggestion will help me get the right keywords in the right places, but how can I delete keywords in the filter hub?
This is not how Aperture works. Use the Keywords HUD to manage Keywords. The Filter HUD dynamically shows Keywords. You cannot add, delete, move, or in any way administer Keywords from the Filter HUD.
Even if there are no photos to which that keyword is assigned it still appears in the filter HUD -- I have used smart albums to find all photos assigned to a keyword and deleted the keyword from each one so there are no photos that have that keyword, but it still appears in the filter HUD.
    1. Make sure you aren't filtering your view in any other way. Be sure to flush your entire trashway (rejected, Aperture Trash, system Trash).
    2. Sometimes Aperture takes several moments to catch up on changes. You can force a re-filter by selecting another Keyword, then re-selecting the one you want. I don't know if this forces a refresh of the Keywords in the Filter HUD. You might have to make another selection in the Library tab of the Inspector, then return to your previous selection and re-pop-up the Filter HUD.
    3. If you want to remove all instances of a Keyword, delete it from the Keyword HUD. There is no reason to hunt it down and remove it from every Version to which it is applied.
    4. Regularly, and especially if you migrated photos from iPhoto, you will end up with two Keywords with the same name (they are located at different levels of the Keyword hierarchy. Use the Keyword HUD to merge them (by dragging and dropping). "Dog", "Animals>Dog", and "Animals>Domesticated>Four-legged>Household>Dog" are each distinct Keywords to Aperture.

  • Is it possible to customize the GUI of a WIA microdriver?

    Hi,
I've downloaded the WIA sample drivers and I'm developing a WIA microdriver using the sample as my starting point. One thing I'm having trouble with is the interface, I would like to get rid of the last two buttons and the quality adjustment text if possible,
keeping only color and grayscale picture, but i have no idea where to change it. I've tried changing the SupportedDataTypes in the pScanInfo structure to only color and grayscale to no avail.
Here's what my interface is looking like:
Any tips where should I look so i can customize the interface?

WIA micro-drivers are a deprecated model which is still supported for legacy device compatibility. The model offers only support for WIA 1.0 (Windows XP) and is limited in functionality
even compared with real WIA 1.0 mini-drivers (mini-drivers which could replace the common WIA 1.0 Scan Dialog shown here with their own UI Extension Dialog).
Recommend for the developer to consider moving to a WIA 2.0 mini-driver. If using one of the WDK driver samples as a template (wiadriverex or prodscan) such driver development
should not that be very much complicated over a micro-driver, without any of the micro-driver limitations.
The two mentioned WIA 2.0 driver samples in MSDN:
     https://code.msdn.microsoft.com/WIA-Microdriver-1972b1c5
    Sample
    Description
    PRODUCTION SCANNING WIA 2.0 DRIVER
The ProdScan directory contains a   sample WIA 2.0 mini-driver. This sample shows how to add Production Scanning   features to a WIA 2.0 mini-driver.
    EXTENDED WIA 2.0 MONSTER DRIVER
The Wiadriverex directory contains a sample WIA 2.0   mini-driver. This sample shows how to write a WIA 2.0 mini-driver that uses   the stream-based WIA 2.0 transfer model. It also
shows an implementation of a   very simple segmentation filter, image processing filter, and error handling   extension for the WIA 2.0 mini-driver.

    hi,
Is there any way i can customize the reports tab? i'd like to publish my reports on the lists in order people can access them directly without having to go to custom shared analisis. Is it possible?

    Try something like this:
    https://secure-ausomxxxx.crmondemand.com/OnDemand/user/analytics/saw.dll?Dashboard&PortalPath=/shared/Company_****-*****SharedFolder/_portal/$$$$$$$$$$$
where xxx denotes your instance pod,
*** denotes the name of your shared folder where reports are stored to be shown on the dashboard(to get this open any of your reports and filter it by selecting one of the reports from shared folder. the string of characters that you will see in the path is to be used)
$$$ denotes the name of your dashboard.

Yes, Just query the wf_worklist_v view and filter the contents as needed by your cusotm inbox. Here is an example were I queried based on username and priority.
    select '<a href ="/pls/wf/wfa_html.detail?nid='||nid||'" target="_New">'||subject||'

  • Customize the load of the incidents choice menus.

    Hi.
Im looking a way for customize the load of the incidents choice menus (Support Group, Impact, Urgency...) immediate (ON CLICK).
Ej1: Select a  classification category for the incident and load the support group associated  to this category immediate or filter only the support groups associated to the classification category immediate  . (ON EVENT CLICK IN
    THE CHOICE MENU classification category)
Ej2: Select a support group and filter only the users to asign (Assign to...) from this support group.
    What tool i can use?
What is the most easy way?
    Thanks.

Ok. The idea is not to use pop-ups. I want to filter only the support group for printers in the "dropdown-combobox" - "Support Group" when i select "printers"classification category for example.
Its possible? Why you say that is hard to develop in #C ? ?
Im reading that you wrote this
i don't want to understate what you're taking on here.
Custom controls are HARD development. this is not the fluffy "configuration" that you get editing XML and doing powershell. These
    are the real deal.
you're going to need more then a small amount of C# and .Net knowledge, and you're going to have to know enough of the SDK to pull your "options" class back to populate this list. ISTRONGLY recommend
you get someone familiar with C#, XAML and the SCSM SDK to architect this.
    :S AAAAAAAAA!!

  • Hi. I'm currently editing a music video that I wish to use the filter 'Red Noir' on.

But for some reason, every time I wish to cut a clip and add the filter, only some clips play--even though they are all snippets of the same original clip. All of the clips are shown in the editing bar, but there's just a blank screen when the scrubber passes over some of them. If this doesn't happen, the other problem I am experiencing is that the video (if I manage to edit it with no problems) will not export. It is not the actual clips (they will play with any other filter except Red Noir), and it's not the extra audio I'm using, so I have no idea why this problem is happening. I have never had a problem like this before, and it's very frustrating. Please help!

What version of Premiere Elements and on what computer operating system?
Please review the following that I excerpted from an older post here regarding Adobe's PRE_help comments about Hollywood Effect and mention of
Red Noir. Does any of the following apply to any of what is happening to you.
    - Whenever I try to add an effect from the Hollywood Looks menu, it brings up a warning that all my previous effects on that clip will be deleted. However it will let me add those same effects *after* applying Hollywood Looks.
This is because of how the Hollywood Looks are designed to be used. Since these are effect presets (multiple effects in combination) that result in a specific "look"; they are best applied in isolation. If any previous effect is applied and we still allow a Hollywood effect to be applied, we will not be able to see what the effect does clearly. For e.g. if you already have a Gaussian Blur effect applied to your clip, and then we allow you to apply the "Red Noir" Hollywood effect, the fact that the "Reds" in the scenes will be highlighted and the others converted to B/W will not be clearly seen since the content is already blurred out. So any previously applied effects was designed to be removed. This holds good even if you apply a Hollywood look "on top of" another one. The previous one will be replaced. Having said that, you can customize the look further by either tweaking an already applied filter or by adding a newer effect on top. That is the reason you can apply an effect on top of the Hollywood Effects and not vice versa.
Please review and consider and then we can proceed from there if necessary.
