CVS General Socket FAilure
Hello,
i got a problem to make a Connection to my CVS Server.
The Connection works with the StandAlone Client WinCvs.
When I attemp to test the connection under JDeveloper, I receive the message:
Testing connection...
General socket failure when opening connection to the CVS server.
java.net.ConnectException: Connection refused: connect
Connection test failed: unable to connect.
What could I do ?
Thanks, Patrick
what connection method are you using to access the remote repository? pserver, ext, ssh?
Thanks,
Rob

Hi,
Suddenly I got this error in SCVMM 2012-R2 Roll-up 1:
When working with User-Roles (create/update) or assigning a Cloud :
"VMM encountered a critical exception and created an exception report....
search user forums for well-known failure root causes for self-help" (how sweet)... (if it's "well known", why not coding the exception handling correctly?)
The relevant part of the report might be this:
"SCVMM Version=3.2.7620.0
SCVMM flavor=C-buddy-RTL-AMD64
Default Assembly Version=3.2.7620.0
Executable Name=vmmservice.exe
Executable Version=3.2.7510.0
Base Exception Target Site=140717670746840
Base Exception Assembly name=System.Data.dll
Base Exception Method Name=System.Data.SqlClient.SqlConnection.OnError
Exception Message=Unable to connect to the VMM database because of a general database failure.
Ensure that the SQL Server is running and configured correctly, then try the operation again."
(side question: what does this mean: "Ensure that the SQL Server is ... configured correctly"?
I can say that :
SQL is configured by the book, that all services are running (did a reboot of VMM server too) and that all other VMM functions work OK. I don't believe that SQL is only used for user-roles...
Acting as Domain admin and VMM admin.
All updates are installed.
Please find the report @the and and a screen shot attached.
Thanks for any help.

Thomas.I (quite honestly) am one of those folks that generally do not read the KB articles associated with a patch or UR or SP - as you don't expect details like have been put into this particular one.
But as Kristian pointed out - within that KB article is the SQL script that modifies / updates this SQL Stored Procedure.
http://blogs.technet.com/b/scvmm/archive/2014/01/29/how-to-update-scvmm-2012-r2-to-update-rollup-1.aspx
Needless to say, the feedback was given to MSFT that folks would overlook that this SQL script needed to be run. So we are just trying to help out.

I'd aprreciate your help in resolving this asap
P.S. It's a SCVMM 2012 R2 U1. The SQL script mentioned in the Rollup's page was also run as instructed.
Eran.The key error is here: Unable to connect to the VMM database because of a general database failure.
Ensure that the SQL Server is running and configured correctly, then try the operation again
Have you verified SQL connectivity, database connectivity, the user account used to connect, the SCVMM computer account used to connect, etc?

Xgridcontrollerd[1503]: Warning: status socket failure
We had a power outage and since then I've been seeing the following error message in the system.log and it seems like xgrid has hung while working on 4 jobs, they've showed about 50% complete in xgrid admin for a few hours. There is nothing in the logs that I can see. Though I do get status socket failures every couple of hours
educaster xgridcontrollerd[1503]: Warning: status socket failure; will attempt to re-create status socket
Everything seems to be working (i.e. the podcast producer is accepting and creating podcasts) but this error message pops up in the logs every couple of hours.
any ideas?I decided to use nouveau instead of nvidia and now I got my external an internal display working.

Picl_initialize failed: General system failure, SUN OS 5.8 SF V440
Hi,
I am getting this error while running prtdiag -v command. On Sunfire V440 running on Solaris 5.8 OS. Please let me know what was the issue, why I am getting this error.

Thanks,If i recall all the picl/prtdiag cases i had when i worked at sun, they both came down to the following two reasons:
1. system with ancient patches
2. system with no patches
.. so i think its a good idea to start by verifying that you are up-to-date on patches. And verify that relevant processes are running..

But none of this worked. The PageMaker does not print to any printer. And gives the same error
Although I installed Acrobat on the system and can print it using Adobe PDF printer to a PDF file.
Is it a PS printer? No
Are you printing to FILE: ?
I do not know how FILE: is related to this. But I opened "Printers and Faxes" window. Select File --> Server Properties. In the "Ports" tab could see an entry for FILE: Do not know how it is related with Adobe Pagemaker
Are you using the Export… AdobePDF… macro? No
Create a new PM publication, with just a square of black on it - does that print OK? No, it gives the same error
It could be a permissions issue - are all the files on a local drive, usually C:, and not a server or flash drive? I copied file on local folder as c:\data\. But still the same error message.
What if you remove all the images- does it print OK? I created a new publication with only text in it and tried printing it. But same message.
Are you using any non-standard fonts? No
I will also carry out a diagnostic recomposition as per your reply and follow instructions from troubleshooting page. Will update again if it worked or not. -
When using a permanently open socket connection,
if this disconnects at the remote end, due to a failure, is there an event posted to the agent (applet)??An Exception would be thrown. Look for info on try/catch blocks.

Remote debug listening socket failure
I am getting the following error when starting Weblogic with remote debugging enabled:
Error [4] in accept() call!
err:: Interrupted system call
Socket transport failed to init.
dt_socket transport error; accept failed, rc = -1
My java startup parameters include:
-Xdebug -Xnoagent -Xms64m -Xmx64m -Djava.compiler=NONE -Xrunjdwp:transport=dt_socket,server=y,address=3998
,suspend=n
I am using JDK1.2.2 and am running with the JDK opposed to JRE which I understand
is required when trying to remote debug with 1.2. I have $JPDA/lib/sparc in my
LD_LIBRARY_PATH and jpda.jar in my classpath.
Can anyone help please?Problem resolved, thanks.

ReadUTF causing socket failure
Hi
I am having a problem where occasionally readUTF is not getting the data sent from the client side of the socket, plus the socket is then not able to read any more data (no exceptions thrown).
I have caught some data from a situation where it has happened. It doesn't look like there's anything wrong with the data. Could anyone advise me on this? Is there a different way I should be approaching this?
Client side code:
try {
System.out.println("DEBUG: writeInt: " + cmd);
System.out.println("DEBUG: writeUTF: " + cmdString);
o.writeInt(cmd);
o.writeUTF(cmdString);
o.flush();
System.out.println("DEBUG: sent");
catch(IOException ex) {
// processing IOException
catch(Exception ex) {
// processing Exception
}Server side code:
try {
while(running) {
this.yield();
int cmd = i.readInt();
System.out.println("DEBUG: cmd: " + cmd);
String cmdString = i.readUTF();
System.out.println("DEBUG: cmdString: " + cmdString);
this.commandReceived(cmd, cmdString);
catch (IOException ex) {
//processing IOException
catch (Exception ex) {
//processing Exception
finally {
//processing finally
}snapshot from log at the point it fails:
client side log:
DEBUG: writeInt: 16
DEBUG: writeUTF: ||508^^filter.symbol.txt||720^^false||700^^3||703^^0||719^^false||705^^0||706^^0||702^^0||704^^0||701^^1||507^^VOD||

server side log:

DEBUG: cmd: 16
DEBUG: cmdString:
The point being that there is not much difference between the first set of data that is sent and the second. But the second String value never gets from writeUTF to readUTF. And no exceptions are thrown.
Any advice on this would be much appreciated.
Thanks
GlynIf you wanted to, you could use writeLong() on the datainputstream to send the number of bytes you are using in your byte array in writeBytes(). Then on the dataoutputstream you could use readFully() with a byte array of the size specified by readLong().
Just a thought.

ZBOOK 17 - Flash Cache & General System Failure
Greetings,
History:
On my first windows install on my Zbook 17, the OS installed the System Reserved partition on the flash cache SSD. I figured I'd do a reinstall when I ordered and installed a 1tb SSD. I removed all HDDs and the flash cache, installed the OS, then turned off the computer and re-installed the flash cache. Now when I try to boot it gives me 5 blinks on the caps/num lock along with a lovely black screen.
Has anyone ran into this before? Anything I could do to fix it? Thanks in advance,
Ryan
This question was solved.
View Solution.Hello @Behr82
To get your issue more exposure I would suggest posting it in the commercial forums since the HP ZBook 17 is a commercial product. You can do this here Notebook - HP ProBook, ZBook, EliteBook, Compaq, Slate/Tablet PC, Armada, LTE
The support page for your product may be helpful in the meantime: HP ZBook 17 Mobile Workstation.
As a heads up before heading over there, the 5 blink code on the Caps Lock light indicates a motherboard failure. This doesn't always mean a hardware issue but in most cases requires a repair.
I hope this helps!
Thank you for posting on the HP Forums.

How to use CVS with JDeveloper
Hi all!
I'm starting a new project and I would like to know how to use CVS with JDeveloper. This is my first project where I will have two more people working with me and I don't know what the better approach is. Should I use CVS that come with JDeveloper (option Internal to Oracle JDeveloper 10g) or should I configure an external repository? In both cases, I don't know what I have to do to have CVS working properly with JDeveloper. Actually I tried to create a new CVS connection in CVS navigator (using the access method Password Server), but when I test I receive the message: Could not open connection to CVS server: general socket failure, sure I must doing something wrong.
I'm using JDeveloper 10.1.3.0.4
Thanks in advance.Thanks for you help John!
I installed cvsnt and when I try to create a new CVS connection inside JDeveloper I receive the message: authorization failed: server adminf29786.dixamico.com.br rejected access to /Diversos/DownLoad/CVS/usr/local/cvsroot for user JMartins
I using pserver method and JMartins is my user in windows
There is something that I'm curious about, when I was installing CVSNT I didn't configure any user and password, is there any default user/password?
Thanks! -
How to determine reason for socket write failure
Hi,
I'm new to socket programming in general, so please bear with me. I've looked around on the forums quite a bit, and haven't found an answer to this question.
I'm working with server code which creates TCP connections over an air interface with a mobile phone client. Since the air interface is inherently unstable, we rely on the TCP buffering/retry mechanism to store up to its capacity of messages if the client is temporarily non-responsive. Since we are sending small amounts of data, this will actually last for quite a while (several minutes or more depending on how much data we are needing to send). As part of an audit mechanism to detect lost clients, I do a write of a "heartbeat" to the socket and if the write fails, I can assume that either the buffer is full (meaning the mobile "went away" either due to loss of battery power, driving through a very long tunnel, etc.), or the mobile actively disconnected the socket.
However, I'd like to know if there is a way to determine the reason for the write failure? I catch the exception, but as far as I can tell they are all IOExceptions. Is there any way to further delineate the reason for a socket failure?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
-LisaIf you're in a hurry, I don't have an answer for you.
That said, it was an intriguing enough question that I did some poking around as well. There is a socket exception class, but generally speaking, the only methods that throw socket exceptions tend to deal with defining, creating and closing the socket.
Communicating through the socket is done through input and output streams, and like any other streams, those throw I/O exceptions. I suspect you're catching IOEs because you're using streams. Unfortunately, even Socket.sendUrgentData( int data ) also returns an IOException rather than an SException.
In the interests of covering all the bases, are the IOE messages unsufficient? That is, try...
} catch ( IOException ioe ) {
System.out.println( "IOException: " + ioe.getMessage() );
}...might give you enough information to make a guess at whether the buffer is full or if the foreign host has closed the connection. I would suspect this feature is architecture dependent - UNIX systems might have more detail than Wintel systems.
As a last resort, you could extend the InputStream class and do the appropriate testing when writing/sending your packet. I would think that the only cases you can test for are whether the buffer is full (by maintaining a copy of the buffer and updating as appropriate), the mobile is currently sending data, or if the mobile is just not available.
Conventional Java isn't really the best for this because I'm not sure the JVM security model really wants to allow you to directly analyze TCP packets (otherwise you could just check for ACK statements). JME might have an easy solution that we didn't know about and you should ask on the appropriate forum. Alternatively, you might want to think about using C to write a library that handles connections this way, and externally call the library from the rest of your Java program. -
I get a "General Systems Failure!" error if either trying to start the visual service, or if I click on "Retrieve" whilst listening to a station.
The error doesn't crash either the phone or even the Radio, which is nice but, what causes this error?
Is it merely that the station I'm listening to doesn't have a code?
Or is it that my provider doesn't support the service?
I'm on Vodafone UK and my phone (N95) has 12.0.13 firmware.
Regards
NeilI have the same problem. Am also with Vodafone with a N95 8GB. If i try to use the visual radio it says Visual Service Id is needed but when I do I get a General System Failure. I get the same error when I try the Station Directory.
I tried calling Vodafone support but they said it was a Nokia issue -
Hello every body,
we are developing webapplication by using Eclipse 3.2 and verson control as CVSNT .when i update my project from CVS repositry am getting Exception as:
Could not connect to:pserver:INDUSCORPINDIA\AnilPrasadReddyM@localhost:/Java/cvs/cvsrepo:Socket Exception : Connection reset
Plz help hoe to resolve.
Regards,
AnilI tried in so many forums ,but i didn't get proper
reponses I searched Google for that exception and the solution seems to be a "reboot". Sounds silly but such things work with Windows! :D
And here's a link on how to configure CVSNT. It might help.

Regarding system requirements for an old version - PhotoShop 4.0.
My old PS 4.0 has worked for almost 20-years on a Windows XP and NT. Both are dead now. So, when the PS 4.0 requirements say, "NT or later..." does that include modern Windows computers? I plan to keep PS 4.0 since it's all I need. I will upgrade
