DAM question: assets in multilanguage

Hello.
I've a question related to a recent RFI we’ve received from a client.
This client is evaluating DAM, and the main issue we’ve to solve is how to manage digital assets in different languages (as images can contain texts, and videos can contain different audio). I mean, for this client, ‘an image’ is the aggrupation of the images in different languages (same for videos). With this idea as the start point, there’re several issues to consider:
Users need to view the different ‘language images’ as a one, unique entity (maybe a folder… ¿?).
Users should manage an image (so, all the language images) at one time: request for activation, deactivation…
Images should have an identifier. The users have to find all ‘language images’ with this identifier, and external web servers have to request an image with the image identifier and the language code as a parameters.
Under your point of view, which is the best approach to face this challenges?
My first approach is to group 'language images' in a folder, and develop a custom workflows to manage all these image at a time, with the containing folder as a workflow payload. Also, could be necessary to implement a mechanism to replicate some image metadata between these images (metadata like the ID, that must be unique for all the images in a folder).

Could be a few things
Not sure how old the G4s are, but try software encoding instead of hardware encoding in the DVD SP prefs, could be your video card.
Have you built to the hard drive and tried the DVD (not just Simulator? Simulaator is not 100% reliable)
Something else to consider, if you do the menu outside of DVD SP in Final Cut or Motion, you can get better results/quality

Register brand based metadata for DAM assets

Hi,
     I am trying to create new metadata property for DAM assets specific to our application. I follow the procedure stated in the below link.

     But the procedure talks about adding metadata which will become applicable for all assets. Hence, double clicking on any DAM image will show all metadata added as above.
     But as per our requirement, the metadata set must be different for different brands (different folders) inside the same dam. So, when clicking on a image in folder1, the metadata edit page should show metadata specific to that folder1 and when image in folder2 is clicked, the metadata edit page should show metadata specific to folder2.
     Any pointers to achieve this will be very helpful. Thanks in advance.

Just a guess but you might have to change /libs/cq/ui/widgets/source/widgets/wcm/DamAdmin.Actions.js and then replace

With your own servlet JSON response based on current path and then render mentadata you want to render.
If your requirnment is just persisting certain metadata based on current path and not edit it from UI, then change DAM Update Asset workflow and add additonal step after metadata extraction to do this.

Advice On Drobo or DroboPro? LR24 Mac Asset Management

Anyone have problems with Drobo or DroboPro?
I have 2+TB of images, that is growing and will continue to do so.
Thinking of a solution where I use my internal HD (2.7TB Raid 5) for active clients / jobs and then using a Drobo or DroboPro for less active or archived clients / jobs. Also, will get a 2nd one to backup whole thing (Internal HD + active Drobo or DroboPro).
1. concerned about iSCSI - anyone have any experience - speed or connection issues
2. concerned about DroboPro since its new - any experiences out there?
3. concerned about configuration - is this the best way to go or are there better solutions that anyone is using for large image solutions?
I welcome any input great or small.

The link was helpful but as always I want more:) would be nice to hear experiences from people who have deployed DroboPro and how its working. Throughput sounds elusive.
I ordered the DAM book, it will be here on Tuesday and I'm hoping it helps out a lot on my other questions asset management - looks like a good one.

How to add new metadata to assets

Hi all,
I have added a new metadata property following the instructions here: http://dev.day.com/docs/en/cq/current/dam/managing_digitalassets.html .The metadata added will reflect in the DAM ,but what i need is that the metadata newly added should restrict only to the images in my folder(i.e it should not reflect in geometrixx site).how to do this?

thanks for the reply..its a good start ..I have one more question regarding workflows.
Now, i have created a page with DAM update asset workflow model.do you have any idea as where we can set the path in the workflow model so that the workflow will execute only for that particular path or folder and when we open the folder we get the metadata related only to that folder.

Problem with asset class

Dear Experts:
I have a query.Its regarding Asset master data. When i open an asset in class of Motor vehicle, in input data i also input Quantity (mostly 1) But after creation asset master data of the asset created shows its quantity as 3. Please note that i do not use any reference while creating it. Please guide what possible problem can be.

As per the SAP standard setting, we are not suppose to enter the quantity value in the qty field at the time of asset master creation.
Since qty value will be updated automatically while doing MIGO / F-90 only.
If you enter 1 earlier, then if you do MIGO / F-90 or 1 qty, then after posting of your acq entry, your asset will have 2 qty altogether. Prerequisite for this is that, the unit of measure in asset master and purchase order should match.
Coming to your issue, please make sure that, you have not posted any MIGO / F-90 entries to those 2 questioned assets.

First set your COD with OAPL.
Then go to AM05 and deselect / unlock your questioned asset class and then try to create asset now.

How to delete an asset with a capitalization date inefaceable and no value?

Hi all,
An asset was created on the wrong asset class. I would like to erase it but this is impossible because of the capitalization date.
Indeed, I cannot change the fields status variant of the capitalization date, it is compulsory.
Furthermore, as this asset was an error, there are no values on it.
I tried to enter a deactivation date, but this is not possible because of no acquisition performed.
Therefore, I would like to know if it is possible to erase an asset even if a capitalization date has been entered in the master data?
If it is possible, how can I do?

Hi,
This is the drawback in asset master, when you make cap date as mandatory for AS01 transaction.
As a standard practice, cap date gets updated automatically when posting MIGO / F-90 only along with the qty.
In your case, first ask your ABAP member to delete the values from cap date field from table ANLA. (Field Name: AKTIV) for your questioned asset.
Then you can delete that asset with AS06 by choosing Physically delete the asset.
This will resolve your issue.
But if you make your field status as optional to cap date, then you must not got these kind of issues in the future.

Once asset is created, you cannot change the asset class at all.
Delete the questioned asset with AS06 and create with AS01 again with CORRECT asset class.
In AS06, choose Physically Delete Asset option and SAVE.

2 questions - 1st relates to .ion files and 2 folders and sub-folders

I'll try and keep this brief in the hope someone can take the time and help me! My background is that I'm a Location Manager for Film and TV and have about 250,000 images (all with discriptions attached!)
1st I have used Acdsee on windows for the past 8 years (V4, as its stable)), I've now moved over to Mac and want to import my images that are all tagged with discript.ion files. Can I do this and how (i must retain the info in these files. )
2nd i may have 50 folders each with 20 - 50 sub folders (so on and so on) if I import them all into iPhoto (and view them on the same page) I'll go nuts, how can I retain my main folders and have sub folders inside them?

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. I don't think iPhoto would be what you'd want to use. You should look into a DAM (digital asset management) application. I use both iView MediaPro andMedia Expression which are much more versatile and powerful than iPhoto.
I suggest you visit the DAM Forum and see what they say about the various applications that are available. I don't know if EM can read the .ion files but I'm sure someone in the DAM forum can put you on the right path. A wealth of information there.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

Using CMIS in Content Presenter to retrieve a DAM image rendition

Hi,
Can anyone please help with how to retrieve a specific rendition (e.g. Web, Preview, Thumbnail) of an image file through a CMIS query in Content Presenter.
The image was upload and converted successfully using DAM (Digital Asset Manager) using the 'BasicRenditions' default option and the different renditions are visible within Content Presenter. I am able to display documents and images in Content Presenter using CMIS, but want to be able to amend this query to obtain one of the converted renditions.
I would like to know how to do this and appreciate your assistance with this. The environment consists of Webcenter 11g and UCM 11g.

Jiri - I had also read somewhere that this isn't supported currently using a CMIS but wasn't 100% sure. I have raised an SR with Oracle.
Jaap - Thanks for those links. I have seen the first one previously. Our requirement also involves retrieving images based on the values of custom fields which we have created for which values are supplied during check in. E.g. a DeptId field which is populated during check in, and when retrieving content in Content Presenter we use a CMIS query to retrieve content based on the DeptId value. This is why CMIS would have been ideal. I am not sure whether accessing the static images as outlined in those blog posts would still enable to do this, but will investigate.

Image assets and folders

I'm new to Dreamweaver and have imported an existing site.
The site has a number of JPG's that have been divided up into
different folders for ease of location. But Dreamweaver imported
those assets as one long alphabetical list. Is there any way to
keep that image folder structure in the Assets panel?

Bridge is just a file browser, by no means a robust DAM (digital asset manager). Its performance in a network environment is iffy.

Can we use the metadata value of an asset without prefix

I am using the DAM asset (com.day.cq.dam.api.Asset;) and reading the metadata values using the keys
e.,g. asset.getMetadataValue("dc:format");
Is there a way I can add a value to the metadata something like ("dummyType") or (":dummyType").
There are already some key values in metadata e.g. asset.getMetadataValue("Type");
But for "Type" an empty string is returned, does any one have suggestions or a workaround for this ?

can anyone guide me how to implement DAM (Digital Assets Management) for Oracle UCM.
My Inviroment:
Web Server: Apache2.2
Data Base: Oracle 10g
Content Server: 10gR3

Installing DAM isn't too bad, check out the documentation. It boils down to installing a handful of components on content server and at least one on inbound refinery.

You will need something like image alchemy for image conversion, or photoshop (though image alch is the one default settings are provided for). This costs money separate from your oracle license

SAP doesn't allow me to change the filling in the view, I only can display them.

This is not an authorisation issue at all.
S_ALR_87009007, this tcode can be used to maintain a default Eval Group for asset master creation with the specified asset class.
If your Maintainace Level at CLASS is not maintained for any evaluation group, you can edit the values over thers.
SPRO-> FA-> AA ->Master Data -> Screen Layout -> Define Screen Layout for Asset Master Data -> Define Screen Layout for Asset Master Data....here select your screen layout, which is assigned to your questioned asset class on OAOA and click on logical field groups -> Allocations -> Field Group rules.
Here for all eval groups, make the field status to optional and select check boxes CLASS, MNNO, SBNO and SAVE.
Now check with S_ALR_87009007, here you will be able to edit the inputs.
Hope this will resolve your issue.
