Dark Grey Background instead of transparency, how to fix?

Windows, PS CS4. I'm trying to erase part of an image such that there is nothing there. However, when I erase the part of the background layer (I have no layers below it, and none above occupying the same space), I do not see the chequered transparency pattern, but dark grey. This grey also remains part of the image as if it were a colour rather than being transparent. To be specific, it is the white between the borders of a comic I am trying to erase. Thanks.

Your settings for the tranparency in the preferences look fine, but your erasing on a locked background layer, which will not show the transparency grid, just whatever color you have for the background swatch in the toolbox.
In order to get transparency in the example image, the background layer needs to be converted a regular layer by double clicking
on the layer thumbnail in the the layers panel. (the background eraser automactically converts the locked background layer to a regular layer)

Changing default colors to a dark grey background, can no longer see gmail buttons.

The bright white pages of most web sites hurt my eyes and I really enjoy making pages a grey color.
After changing Preferences/Content/Color/Background to a dark grey I really love how everything looks especially search pages, google calendar, gmail etc.
The problem is that many buttons have disappeared. These buttons are icons I believe so I do not understand why the background color would make them dissapear.

It is because, when you <em>force</em> a dark background using the checkbox, you also prohibit use of background <i>images</i>. There is no meaningful HTML except for an id or a class to which the CSS attaches a "background" image (which is probably a simply bad practice).

Firefox suddenly misinterpreting wmode transparent. Instead, displaying my content against a white background, instead of transparent. HELP.

I apologize, I'm a bit unclear on the exact nature of the issue you are describing. Are you able to adjust the screen brightness, as outlined in the following article?

If you are unable to adjust the brightness, or the brightness setting isn't retained or doesn't respond to ambient light (if you have a MacBook Pro with an ALS), you may want to try resetting the System Management Controller, as noted below:

Firefox 30: Tab Mix Plus backgrounds are grayed. How to fix?

I've been reluctant to upgrade from 28 because of the changes to the toolbars and inability to customize. Now, I've been able to fix some of the problems with Classic Theme Installer, but when I adjust my Tab Mix Plus backgrounds, the inactive tabs are gray regardless of how I set the colors. How do I get around this newest aggravation? And how do I get rid of the Bookmarks link on my Bookmark Toolbar? Why do they have to mess with what works? Or do I just go back to 28?

In Windows 8 on a Microsoft Surface Pro scrolling on the touch screen highlights text instead of scrolling - how doI fix that?

This happens about 90% of the time. Going to the same websites in IE or Chrome that problem doesn't occur. What's wrong with my Firefox settings? And how do I fix this.

I'm afraid I'm not sure whether they will work. They will at least need to have been updated by the add-on developer to work with v26.
There may be other limitations. I know that in early builds only add-ons which use the Addons SDK would work. This is still a development pre-alpha build so you should expect some issues / limitations until it reaches full release. I believe that is expected in December this year.
If you are willing to give it a go I recommend installing it and testing out what is possible. Installing Nightly will not affect your current stable channel install so if you don't like Nightly you can just uninstall it and go back to using Firefox 23.

Lately, all the pdf files that I open have a dark grey background on them... it makes it hard to read and even harder to print....

Grey screen instead of log in

I have a Mac Mini (Mid 2011) with Lion which wont get to the login screen anymore. I just got a grey background instead. Heres the things ive been tested without any resault.
- Start with no external stuff, only power, keyboard and network.
- Safe start, holding shift.
- Reset Nvram with command + option + p + r (also 5 times after eachother).
- Start the recovery mode holding command + r
I succeded to start the AHT (apple hardware test) holding down D at startup, and run the long test for about 20 min. But it said all was ok.
I can also start it in firewiremode holding T, but since i dont need to backup anything i cant do so much more. I have run disk utilitys on the disk in fw mode and it still says everything is ok. I also run a long test with drive genius on all blocks and it didnt find anything.
I can also hold down option and choose from wich partition to start from, the system or recovery, but with just a grey background after again.
I can also restart with option + command + r and then i get the globe and timer going down in like 5 min, then just grey screen again.
I have tested different cables and screens. Shut down the power totally for long time then restart but no change.
Is there anything else i can do? The Mac Mini is 2,5 year and it feels **** that the hardware will break after that short time
Still i dont know if it is something with the hardware, since no test finds anything. Then its strange it wont start either from the system or the recovery partition.
Is there a way to reinstall Lion over firewire mode? I dont have so much to loose.
I have other macs here with Lion where i can make a usb recovery from maybe, but i read somewhere that its only working on the computer i made it from

Try removing one stick of memeory and then try with the other stick in place.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

[KDE] Img viewer fullscreen backgrd color dark grey instead of black

I've noticed that while running native qt image viewers in KDE to view images in full-screen mode the background color is set to dark grey instead of pure black. If a run a gtk image viewer I get a black background.
In xfce4 this is corrected since most qt image viewers will display a black background, with the exception gwenview.
This leaves me wondering if there is some setting I must fiddle with...

That slider only affects the color of the background in non-fullscreen mode, at least on my end...
edit: furthermore just tried the Fedora Live CD and this issue is not present. So I can only conclude something must be wrong with KDE setup...

When I am looking at a direct image (Example: an imgur link) the picture is centered and on a dark grey page after I updated to FF 11.0. How can I change this back to normal?

As the title suggests since updating whenever I visit a direct image link the page turns dark grey and the image is centered.
