Hi Vishwa,
You can obtain row-level data restriction from within Business Objects by using "CEUserName" and an external security table together with suppression formulas that are evaluated at run-time.

Data Access Restriction in Webi via Infocube/Multiprovider

As we know that Row level security is not available in OLAP universe, the approach for data level restriction is to creat roles at BI level.
I have Query regarding the same.
If I m creaing my universe on top of Infocube or multiprovider.
I have 2 users, User1 and User2.
Now if I want User1 should see data for CostCentre = UK,India.
User2 should see data for CostCentre = US, UK,India
Here are my queries:
1) Will User1 and User2 be able to see the data level access in Webi Report based on the their Login?
2) If I creat the Prompt on "CostCentre" in Webi then, will User1 see Lov as {UK,India} and Will the User2 see Lov as {US, UK,India}
If Data level access cannot be achieved in Webi via universe created on top of Infocube/Multiprovider then what is the approach to do so?

Access restriction in Universe

Hi All,
In our environment we have 2 domain (US and Europe) and most of the user have id created for both the domain. We have 2 identical databases one in US and other in Europe. US database holds US information and Europe holds Europe data.
In our BO environment we have set the ad groups to create new id for each user Alias i.e if the user abcd has access in both US and Europe domain BO creates 2 separate ids for each domain (bo internally creates abcd and abcd0). We have only one universe and set of reports which has connection switching based on the domain user logs into BO (access restriction at connection level). This works absolutely fine, switches database connection depending on the domain user logs in.
Now we are hearing from our users that they can access the personal reports created under Europe login in US login (this because users has abcd and abcd0). So we decided to create enterprise id and alias the users from AD group (abcd --> alias AD abcd), if we do this the change the connection swap is not happening as the BOUSER always returns abcd as user and universe restriction is only picking the default connection.

Hi Rohit,
You have to set up the Restricted Read Access with Restriction Rule (choose the one relevant for you) in Business Role Access Restrictions tab then you will see the same restricted data in report as well.

WRT54GS V6 multiple access restrictions

I have setup access restrictions for my kids machine but can only get 1 profile to work.
I would like to have access for then between 6pm and 10pm Monday - Friday and 24 Hrs Saturday & Sunday.
In the profile I have created (that works) is the IP address for my kids machine as well as the MAC address.
Can someone help please.
I can only find help on single policies.

Oh, I didn't seem to get it right. You were asking why you can't enable 2 policies at the same time right? (e.g. policy 1 & 2 is selected)
Well, here's the thing, the router will be the one to enable the policy on that specific date. For example, policy 1 is for weekdays and policy 2 is for weekends. Just double-check that the router's time is the same with the pc. The router will be the one to disable policy 1 and enable policy 2 on weekend. When on weekdays it will then disable policy 2 and enable policy 1.

Data access Objects

Deepak,
Can you throw some light on the 'Data access Objects" pattern? and how it can be used with Entity beans? I am trying to apply this to the following scenario and having a hard time.
We need users to be transparent of the data retrieval from various sources like oracle database, flat files or legacy storage. If I use the data access object pattern it is easier to use java classes in place of entity beans.

[For those not familiar with our Data Access Object Pattern, the
beta version of the pattern is available on JDC (needs JDC login) at:

Data Access Objects (or DAOs) are objects that hide the database
implementation from data clients. Data clients are any objects
that need to retrieve data from the data source. And the data source
could be anything that contains data, not necessarily only RDBMSs.
For example, an external system could be a data source.
Now using DAOs with Entity beans is applicable only in bean-managed
persistence (BMP) scenario. In BMP, the entity beans are responsible
to provide the data load and store implementation in the ejbLoad()
and ejbStore() methods of the bean implementation. Without using
the DAOs, the entity bean class will contain all the JDBC code (assuming
that the data source is an RDBMS), SQL, etc. This makes the
entity bean class bloated and difficult to manage when changes
are made to the data logic. In addition, this tightly couples the
data source implementation with the entity bean implementation.
By using DAOs, the ejbStore() and ejbLoad() methods are much
simpler. Also, it is easier to change from one datasource implementation
to another by replacing the DAOs. Further flexibility is possible
by employing the DAO factory strategy as described in the DAO pattern
in our catalog.
Coming back to you point about making the data access transparent
to the clients; it is possible to achieve this by using DAO and
DAO factory strategy. In the current version of the pattern,
included in the book, we provide sample code to show how
to design DAO classes and to apply DAO factory strategy.
On your last point about using java classes instead of entity beans, this
is not the intention of the DAO pattern. Entity beans serve a different
purpose in the architecture as coarse-grained transactional components.
entity beans use DAOs in BMP implementations, but are not replaced
by DAOs. However, DAO classes are reusable. The same DAO that is
used by an entity bean to retrieve some data in one application scenario,
can be reused by a servlet in another application scenario
that needs the same data, but does not use entity beans.
So bottom line is that DAOs address the need to data access and
manipulation and work together with entity beans in BMP implementations.

Access restriction based on Sales Units / Sales Area

Hi all,
I am looking into the access restriction functionality on business roles.
One of our customers has a requirement to separate data between their different sales organisations. One sales organisation should not see customers, opportunities of the other sales organisation and vice versa.
In the access restriction I see that the access context defines on which elements you can set the access restriction.
For customers and opportunities the possibilities are: Employee or Territory.
Setting the access restriction on Employees is not a solid solution for me (when the employees are changed in the org model, the access restriction is influenced on several business roles..)
So what if we do not use territory management / if the territory management setup differs from the actual sales areas / sales units?
So my main questions are: can we set access restriction based on Sales Units? (we will setup integration with SAP ERP which means we cannot enter sales areas for prospects...). And can we influence the access context or do we need developments for that?

We plan to enhance the access restrictions based on sales organization and distribution channel in a future release.
If you setup territory management, we offer sales office and sales group including sales organization as attributes to define a territory if you are connected with SAP ERP.

Can't activate direct data access for VProvider

I try to activate direct data access for BC VirtualProvider 0TR_CM_1. When I open "Activate Direct Access" dialog I don't see any assigned source systems in "Source Syst. for InfoSource 3.x" nor any in "Data Transfer Processes" tabs. Does it mean what non of source systems don't have direct access data sources? Or in other words - why I can't assign any source system for the BC VProvider?

While creating datasource there is an option for direct access.This option shows if the DataSource supports direct access to data.
A RemoteProvider in BI can only get data from a DataSource that supports direct data access.
It is only useful to access data directly if the quantity of data to be extracted can be restricted to a suitable selection.

Hello,
If I understood you clearly what you want is if you have two filters defined at universe level e.g. Filter1 & Filter2 so you want user1 to see Filter1 and User2 to see Filter2.
You will not be able to restrict filter like this but you can: -
1. Create a new object with same definition as per your filter and then using "Manage access restriction" set restriction for these objects.
2. If you have these user accounts in DB, you can use @variable ('BOUSER') in your where clause and direclty restrict the data fetched from database.

WRT610N V2 Access restrictions & https protocol (bug?)

In case this helps anyone else.
I was having problem setting up a simple access restriction. A 'Everyday' time blockage for one particular MAC address.
When I changed the time range and tried to save the change I would lose contact with the router and it would not take effect.
I have the router set to use https. I administer it over wireless using the html interface from Firefox on various WIndows machines.
What seems to be the problem is that I cannot save the settings change in https mode. When I do that I do not get confirmation that the setting was changed and the router changes back to http mode - so continued attempts to reach it on https fail.
Once I get smart enough to change back to http I can access it. I see the change was not saved. The interface still has the https option checked... I have to toggle it off and toggle it back on to re-stablish https operation.
(I am using the current 2010 firmware release)

Thanks that did it - re-reading your post I perhaps didn't do it quite right - I did the full reset before flashing it but it seems to have worked.
Also I found I did not have the latest firmware - not sure why I missed it before as I definitely checked since the created date - but perhaps it was uploaded later. That resolved a couple of other minor issues I had.
One minor remaining irritation is I think I cannot set an access restriction between 23:55 and 24:00. Assuming it still doesn't allow a Deny time range crossing midnight then the latest end time I can set it to is 11:55 PM (I tried 12:00 AM but it refused to permit an end time prior to the start time).
Hope my son doesn't discover that 5 minute window.

Which data accessed most

Hi Experts,
Do you know how to check which data accessed on the cube most like if I've cube which is having 4 yrs worth of data then how I know which year is accessed most or which time slice is accessed most by users?
So that it will help me to take decision for archiving strategy to categorize Hot, warm and cold data.
I know we can check through statistics which cube is accessed but not sure how to check for that cube what are the time slices accessed most.

I dont see there is any way to check which data has been accessed most and you will need to consult business and get their inputs before you suggest them.
Some tricky ways of of looking at this would be
- To see how many reports have restrictions for fiscal year period and how many of then by default point to latest fiscal period/year. This will give you a fair idea on how the reports are accessed.
- Which functional aread is being referred here (Finance, HR, Contrlling) If your looking at archiving the Time Sheet data then I dont think people would go back to previos fiscal year and analyze

WAD : Result set is too large; data retrieval restricted by configuration

When trying to execute the web template by giving less restiction we are getting the below error :
Result set is too large; data retrieval restricted by configuration
Result set too large (758992 cells); data retrieval restricted by configuration (maximum = 500000 cells)
But when we try to increase the number of restictions it is giving output. For example if we give fiscal period, company code ann Brand we are able to get output. But if we give fical period alone it it throwing the above error.
Note : We are in SP18.
Whether do we need to change some setting in configuration? If we yes where do we need to change or what else we need to do to remove this error

Hi Karthik,
the standard setting for web templates is to display a maximum amount of 50.000 cells. The less you restrict your query the more data will be displayed in the report. If you want to display more than 50.000 cells the template will not be executed correctly.
In general it is advisable to restrict the query as much as possible. The more data you display the worse your performance will be. If you have to display more data and you execute the query from query designer or if you use the standard template you can individually set the maximum amount of cells. This is described over [here|Re: Bex Web 7.0 cells overflow].
However I do not know if (and how) you can set the maximum amount of cells differently as a default setting for your template. This should be possible somehow I think, if you find a solution for this please let us know.

While executing query for a given period, 'Result set is too large; data retrieval restricted by configuration' message is getting displayed. I had searched in SDN and I had referred the following link:

4) For VALUE, entered the value for the size of the result set, and then executed the program:
After the said steps, the below message is displayed:

Similar message is displayed for Object: BICS_DA_RESULT_SET_LIMIT_DEF.
