Data transmition using serial com

Hello everyone,
I'm new to JAVAME, and would like to ask how can I send numeric value 1-3 to the pc serial com port, I'll be using the hyperterminal to see the value recieved. The phone I'm using is Nokia N95..any link or ideas will be appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
joseph

Does it work better if you use the serial port(s) on your motherboard?
If so, then get a better serial adapter. If not, look more closely at
VISA.
Some programs have some issues on serial adapters but run fine on a
regular serial port. We've had that problem recent

    Hello,
You mention that you send a string to the microprocessor that tells it how many bytes to send. Instead of requesting 512 bytes, try reading 10 times and only requesting about 50 bytes at a time.
If that doesnt help, try directly communicating with your microprocessor through HyperTerminal. If you are not on a Windows system, please let me know. Also, if you are using an NI serial board instead of your computers serial port, let me know.
In Windows XP, go to Start, Programs, Accessories, Communications, and select HyperTerminal.
Enter a name for the connection and click OK.
In the next pop-up dialog, choose the COM port you are using to communicate with your device and click OK.
    In the final pop
-up dialog, set the communication settings for communicating with your device.
Type the same commands you sent through LabVIEW and observe if you can receive the first 54 bytes you mention. Also observe if data is returned from your 512 byte request or if HyperTerminal just waits.
If you do not receive the 512 byte request through HyperTerminal, your microprocessor is unable to communicate with your computer at a low level. LabVIEW uses the same Windows DLLs as HyperTerminal for serial communication. Double check the instrument user manual for any additional information that may be necessary to communicate.
Please let me know the results from the above test in HyperTerminal. We can then proceed from there.

  • Capturing data acquisition frames reliably at 100 hz using serial, how?

    Hi All,
I am completing development of a 14 channel, 10 bit resolution, pic based data acquisition circuit. It transmits frames of 41 bytes (currently) at 100hz using serial. The embedded code functions satisfactorily. I can see data ok using hyperterminal. I am unsure how to optimise labview to get complete frames without hogging lots of cpu/system resource etc. eg. do I simply set the frame size (num of bytes) to retrieve and set this looping as fast as possible , and/or set the rate to fetch frames at the rate frames are transmitted by the pic? This may allow drift in available buffered bytes to finally overflow the buffer.
I tend to lose 1 byte in 100 typically doing nothing but this increase
s to chunks of bytes if I interact with windows.
I have the feeling a number of decisions need making when setting up a serial link like this but I am unsure which settings best suit my application.
    Thanks in advance,
    Regards
    Chris

    Hi Lynn, Tristan,
Please find the current llb attached. This has my last serial run and shows how the data gets glitchy after a number of seconds (toward end of the text box).
I have spent time building the suggestions into code. I am not yet trying to strip out individual channels. At the moment I just want to get frames in reliably before moving on.
It certainly looks a lot more reliable now but a few more questions have been raised. I think the idea of getting data in using 1 loop then immediately passing it for processing by another parrallel loop seems important for reliability.
You will notice I grab a frame and it then goes into a que where it will be processed but this needs doing quickly as frames will be used in realti
    me.
I have set up the code to trim the delay for both the get data from serial port loop and get 1 entry from the que loop.
I am using 2 identical circuits in my product, 1 captures data from a leg harness, the other controls movements of a biped robot (servos) this occurs in "real time". I need to remove as much latency due to processing as possible.
click on "video 3" on the right of the page for a prototype demo:
    http://www.robotic-systems.co.uk/products/full_system.htm
I noticed that some of text embedded within text boxes used in subvi's can tend to float thro to the top level vi. I proved this by adding a bit of text and noticed it kept cropping up occasionally on the top level text box. I found this peculiar but cured it by deleting all chars in the subvi text box. Now I am concerned, could this be somthing to do with why I get glitches in text occasionally?
Is there some labview feature to say flush all text, numbers and bools prior to running from the top leve
    l?
I'd be gratefull if you have a look thro my llb and sanity check the flow of code and let me know what you think.

  • Need to build communication redundancy using serial RS-232 for Data Transfer b/w Host and RT irrespective of TCP/IP Data Transfer

Hi - I would like to build the logic in which it should accomodate the communication redundancy using serial RS-232 for Data Transfer b/w Host and RT irrespective of TCP/IP Data Transfer.
I want to do data transfer b/w host and RT through RS232 VISA portal whenever TCP/IP ethernet cable has been unplugged from the controller continuosly , it should keep on checking for TCP/IP link re-establishing also , when ever the tcp/ip link established again that time the communication should be using in that link only. This is accomplished by deploying the RT vi as execuatbale file. I made some logic regards to the above said logic , bur it was not working as much I expected.
I request you to go through the attached two VI's and let me know , what I did wrong in that,
    Please do the needful.

  • I want to transfer data through the serial port in the same coding that hyperterminal uses. How can i do it?

The serial port seems to be working, and labview seems to be sending the data, but the problem is in which format does it send the data, because in hyperterminal i just input the string "JDX" and it sends it to my device, with labview it sends something but my device does not recognize it.

Hyperterminal adds the carriage return/line feed to the string which is
generated by the return key to send out the current line. LabVIEW simply
sends out what you tell it, so try to set the string to "Show \ Display"
format and add a \r or \n or \r\n to the command you want to send out.
Assumes of course that you set the right baudr
    ate/bits/parity etc in
LabVIEW with the VISA property node, when opening the serial port.

First, empty the Trash if you haven't already done so.
Use a tool such as OmniDiskSweeper (ODS) to explore your volume and find out what's taking up the space. You can delete files with it, but don't do that unless you're sure that you know what you're deleting and that all data is safely backed up. That means you have multiple backups, not just one.
Proceed further only if the problem hasn't been solved.
ODS can't see the whole filesystem when you run it just by double-clicking; it only sees files that you have permission to read. To see everything, you have to run it as root.
    Back up all data now.
Install ODS in the Applications folder as usual.
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Triple-click the line of text below to select it, then drag or copy — do not type — into the Terminal window:
    sudo /Applications/OmniDiskSweeper.app/Contents/MacOS/OmniDiskSweeper
Press return. You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up.
I don't recommend that you make a habit of doing this. Don't delete anything while running ODS as root. If something needs to be deleted, make sure you know what it is and how it got there, and then delete it by other, safer, means.
When you're done with ODS, quit it and also quit Terminal.

I am developping a application, using serial communication for data
    acquisition.
This serial read data continuous.but when i click on the graph or made
a zoom i lose data in that interval ...
    What can i do

If I understand correctly what you're saying, there is a gap in you data when you click on the graph, or zoom in on it. If you have the acquisition and the graph in the same loop, you could be essentially pausing or slowing down the loop while you are interacting with the graph. I've never noticed this effect before myself, but it is possible. One solution might be to put the acquisition process in a seperate loop and pass data to the loop containing the graph in something like a queue.Mike...

  • Using DLL in LV for a serial com

    Hi,
I'm trying to implement in LV a software involving a pan-tilt-zoom motor control, which works with a pretty large communication protocol but have C++ written DLL.
I have tested the DLL with a c++ program, and it works fine, but when I try to use it in LV it doesn't work at all!
To start with, i'm trying to run a basic program, with 2 vis from the dll:
The first VI (Init.vi) Configures the serial com port receiving the name (for example COM4) and the baudrate (9600) and returns the handler for the port
The second (TiltUp.vi) vi receives the handle, and sends the packet through the port
The problem is that the first Init.vi doesn't seem to initialize the port. I'm using C calling convention for every vi, and running them in the UI thread.
Do you have any idea of what could be my problem? It is possible to configure and get the port handler any other way in LV?
    Thank you very much!

I'm new to the LabView. How do I pass data from VI configured using Serial (CMTS using CLI commands to set Parameters ) to VI configured using GPIB(vector signal analyzer ) to measure such as RF frequency or power on the instrument?
I just want to set something on the front panel that will execute the Serial parameters first and then pass these settings to vector signal analyzer
    Thanks

    You transfer data with wires.
Frankly, I'm a little confused by your question. I can't think of any reason why you would want to pass serial parameters (i.e. baud rate, parity) to a GPIB instrument. Please explain with further detail and attach the code.

  • Problem in using serial port.

I am using serial port to get data from a fusion splicer. The number of bytes at the port is 4096 but the read buffer of VISA read is empty. I am reading the same number of bytes. Can any one tell me what is the maximum size of VISA Read buffer? I am trying to put the contents of the buffer in a file. I am using labVIEW 6.1 on linux.I am also attaching the VI.
I also noticed this problem...If I read the number of bytes in the serial buffer many times, sometimes it reads it as 0 and I have to keep trying until it reads this 4096 bytes.
    Thanx for any help.

    Hey Viji,
In your application it looks like you are just checking to see how many bytes are at the serial port. Is it possible that your application is check for the serial data at the port before the data actually gets there. If you are looping this code as a subVI or just running it over and over it is possible that one of the iterations could occur faster than your device can write the information to the bus. In this instance you are checking the number of bytes at the port and there might not be any there yet. In this case the port reads 0 as you have designed it.
If you want the read function to wait and always read 4096 then don't wire the bytes at port to the read function. Just wire a constant/control equal to 4096 to the read function instead o
f the bytes at port. In this case, if there are not any bytes at the port the read function will wait for the bytes to show up or until the timeout period is reached.
I would also, suggest lowering your time to something more reasonable, because if your instrument quits transmitting your application is going to wait for 33 minutes. That is a long time for a program to hang.
    I hope this helps out.

  • HTML DB and Serial(COM) Port

    Hi, everyone,
Is there any way that HTML DB can communicate with Serial Port (COM Port) directly? I searched the forum, and saw someone mentioned "Visual Baisc", "Javascript", "ActiveX", or "DLL". Could anyone give an example for it if you had successful experiences about it?
My problem is I'm working on a HTML DB project which will read data from barcode scanner. And request I have is the HTML DB can monintor the Serial Port and read the data from there if there is one. That means some programs need to be embedded in or called in HTML DB page. I known there are some commerial software developed for this purpose on the market, but I am wondering if it can be done by HTML DB itself?
    Thank you. And Regards,
    Ran

    > Is there any way that HTML DB can communicate with Serial Port (COM Port)
    directly?
There seems to be a misunderstanding or lack of understanding about what APEX/HTMLDB is ito client-server architecture.
APEX is a server side application. It resides entirely in Oracle as PL/SQL software. It is executed by Oracle server processes that are servicing requests from a web (i.e. Apache) server.
APEX does not "run" on the client. APEX streams, via the web server, data to the client browser. These MIME streams can be anything from HTML, XML, plain text (like CSV data), to images and so on.
The browser receives this data stream, and depending on the browser configuration, does something with it - e.g. it renders a HTML data stream, it starts Flash Player plugin for a Flash graph, etc.
The browser interacts with the client. With the user, the mouse, the keyboard, the printer and any other peripherals the client may have - like a barcode scanner.
Can HTMDBL use a COM port? The more correct question is, Can PL/SQL in the Oracle Server Process access the COM port of the Oracle Server Platform?. The answer to that is yes - it can be done.
But in the context of client interaction and the COM port being that of the client platform - no. PL/SQL is a server-side language. It does not execute on the client in the client browser.
It is important to understand the web client-server architecture - as it is a lot more complex and inflexible and slower than the "traditional" client-server architecture. It is stateless. It uses a very "primitive" client, the web browser. It is bound to W3C standards which is the lowest common denominator. Forget about smooth and slick client GUIs using and supporting the latest desktop GUIs standards and controls. Forget about easily interfacing with the client platform's file system and peripherals and so on.

Please help me.... I struck up at reading data in a serialized file. It is a text file with some special characters. My question is - Is it a real serialized file or some bad file? It looks like it might contain serialized Java objects, since it contains Java class names. Have you tried reading it as such to see what happens?
Or are you asking how to do that? In which case why not just start with the code in the Java serialization tutorial and go from there?
Or did you not know there was such a tutorial? Google keywords: "java serialization tutorial".
