  • Dataguard broker setup - Licensing terms

    Hi,
This is a simple question. I have searched Oracle documentation fairly elaborately, but could not find an answer.
The question is: Can I co-host Dataguard Broker configuration with RMAN Catalog+EMGC ?
We already have one host (Running EE) catering to RMAN Catalog and EMGC repository (On a single server). Since we have a requirement of configuring dataguard broker, the thought was to co-host this on the same server.
Is there a licensing consideration to this? Can someone refer some relevant documentation please? Thanks in advance.
    Cheers,

Standby is an copy of the primary database is maintained on a separate server at all times. the standby database is activated to act as the new primary database.
"In this environment, both the primary and the standby databases must be fully licensed."
Oracle standby servers need to be fully licensed if they are “hot standby” servers that can be used for production SQL queries. Some sources say that cold standby servers used less than 10 days per year do not need to be licensed, but you should verify this with your Oracle representative or the Oracle Store. In sum, current 2006 Oracle Data Guard licensing policies suggest that if Data Guard is installed for "standby" purposes, it requires full licensing.
Check this discussion, it may help you.

But confused about Why there could sudden spike of demand on UNDO data in Active Data Guard ? Could any one please shed some lights on finding the reason for this issue ?It's been interesting, The job runs only on ADG?
Even it is only reporting purposes, Which runs only select statements. Are you sure that issue is only because of this job?
Moreover am interested to know, How you able to monitor at the same time? Using EM?
What all are the jobs ran on primary at the same time?
Then, is it possible to run the job on primary and see whats the response?
I suggest you to run the same job again on standby and see the ET of the job and also gather the statspack to check whether you got same buffer busy waits or not.
What storage you are using for primary and standby? In terms of I/O and performance all are same?
You got chance to take statspack even on primary database?
What are the parameters differ in primary and standby?
Also check this note, Heresome work around provided.

  • Dataguard Interview questions and most frequeently asked DG issues

    Hi Gurus,
I am new to this forum and happy to be a part of it.
Can someone help me in posting " Dataguard Interview questions and most frequeently asked DG issues" as i am preparing for the interviews.
And also share the enhancements to DG in 11g.
    Thanks in advance.

I'm not impressed by any of the questions at any of the linked sites provided so here are the one's I would expect someone to be able to answer:
    1. What is the difference between Physical and Logical Data Guard in terms of how they work and how they are used in the enterprise?
    2. What is the difference between vanilla Data Guard and Active and Snapshot?
    3. How do you enable the Data Guard Broker process and why and when would you want to?
    4. Who is Larry Carpenter and why should you care?
    5. What parameters in using orapwd are critical for success?
    6. What would you recommend as a value for SEND_BUF_SIZE and why?
    7. Given a primary production database, and a full RMAN backup that takes 1 hour to fully restore ... how long would it take you to implement Physical Data Guard from the time you started working?
If the answer to question 7 is greater than 2 hours ... my assumption would be that you probably had never done it before and it wouldn't matter that you got the first six questions correct.

  • Whats is diffrence between Dataguard and Stand by?

    Hi All
I was asked for diffrence between Dataguard and StandBy Database in an interview.
I answered that prior to 9I, (in 8i) It was called StandBy Database and from 9I onwards, It is called DataGuard.
But interviewer doesnt seems to be satisfied with my answer. Not sure why?
Then i was asked for Diffrence in Logical Dataguard and Physical Dataguard?
I replied with "Logical DG" is one in which sql stements are applied onto standby whereas "Physical DG" is one in which redo logs are shipped from one server to other by itself (with services) and secondary upgrades itself from those. Again, interviewer didnt feel happy enough.
This has made me think, was my answer incorrect because i answered whatever i know. which i feel like is correct.
Please help me identify correct answer.
    Thanks

I answered that prior to 9I, (in 8i) It was called StandBy Database and from 9I onwards, It is called DataGuard. No - DataGuard is intimately involved with Standby Database, but it is NOT standby. A Data Guard 'configuration' actually includes the primary database and one or more standby databases as well as some additional processes and the connectivity between these things.
    In simplistic terms:
Standby Database is an operating mode of the database in which it continuously applies redo logs that are shipped from another (primary) database. The mode of operation often stops the database from being accessible to users.
Logical standby database uses a 'recieving process' (SQL Apply) that extracts from the log and creates SQL statements which are applied to keep the standyby database in step with the primary.
Physical standby database uses a form of continuous database recovery by directly applying the redo logs received from the primary.
Data Guard was originally a set of scripts, but now is the entire environment including a set of processes that control the extraction of redo (directly from log bugger, from redo logs or archive redo logs) from the primary, shipping to the standby, ensuring that the logs are applied. Data Guard processes also include the mechanics needed to make the standby database active automatically (failover) or manually (switchover) and also to re-sync and make the original database active again (switchback).
You could (should) read more about this. Oracle has a fine set of documentation which you can access from http://tahiti.oracle.com - indeed selecting Database 10gR2, and switching to the Books tab you get to http://www.oracle.com/pls/db102/portal.portal_db?selected=3 . And by scrolling down a little to "Data Guard Concepts and Administration" you would get decent introduction in the first 2 pages of Chapter 1 "Introduction to Oracle Data Guard".
But interviewer doesnt seems to be satisfied with my answer. Not sure why?I would not be satisfied either. Especially if I was looking for swomeone to be responsible for availability scenarios for my corporate data.
Again, interviewer didnt feel happy enough.Well ... you are moderately close on this. However, you seem to be missing "how do we get data from the primary in the SQL Apply case". The implication is that you are not at all comfortable with the basic concepts.
Again, I would not be terribly happy either. I would not be confident that you had read Chapter 1 of the Data Guard Concepts manual. And that could imply that you had not read Chapter 1 of ANY of the Concepts manuals. That chapter in each of the manuals is an easy read, complete with pictures, and it describes the basics of operating the big machine that the interviewer wants to entrust you with.
All that said, Data Guard is only available on Enterprise Edition. Standby capability is available on Standard Edition. And there are commercial products around that provide capability similar to Data Guard for Standard Edition.

  • Infrastructure suggestion for Oracle RAC and Dataguard

    Hello,
We are working on migration business proposal and need to suggest HA and DR infrastructure solution with Oracle 11G databases. I am thinking to suggest Oracle 11g RAC and Dataguard to meet this requirement. We also wanted to cover Dev, Test and Pre Prod along with Prod in new environment. Can someone suggest cost effective, stable and scalable infrastructure for this requirement
    Best regards,
    Venkat

In terms of cost ? Perhaps.
    In terms of performance? NO.
Bear in mind I'm not trying to sell anything here, but in my experience hardly anything matches the performance of Exadata. It has specific features for the DB such as de iDB protocol which enables the offloading of queries to the exadata storage servers. More unique features include: storage indexes, HCC compression, smart flash cache... It's all a matter of how much you want to spend.
Yes, you can have all your servers on the same box if you want, just make sure it is not a single point of failure. (Have appropriate safeguards in place in case of power failure, Data center catastrophes, etc). In case of LPARs on the same box, be aware of one server over-utilizing resources which would affect the other LPARs (configurable).
    More info on Exadata: http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/server-storage/engineered-systems/exadata/dbmachine-x3-twp-1867467.pdf
If your company has a tight budget you might also look at your options with Database appliance: http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/server-storage/engineered-systems/database-appliance/documentation/oracle-db-appliance…
Database appliance has more flexibility in terms of licensing and it's also a complete hardware solution from oracle for Databases.

  • Payment Terms configuration

    Dear Friends,
    I have 2 queries -
    1. Can we configured the Payment Terms which will enable while invoicing to create the multiple line item while Invoice Posting ( accounting entry ) say, while doing MIRO / FB60 transaction. And one of those would go to Special GL. e.g. we have to deduct the Retention Money @ 5% from Invoice Amount and we are using one of Special GL for Retention money so can i configure the Payment Term as -
    1. 95%       -
    60 Days
    2. 5%        -
    365 Days
So here 2 ( 5% ) will be posted as Special GL item while Invoice Entry.
( Currently we are transferring those entries to special gl manually using T code - F-02 from Vendor Open items )
    2. We have configured the number of Payment Terms but sometimes negotiated Terms does fall into the category of existing Payment Terms and it is not possible to create the Payment Terms for such requirement. So can we configure one Payment Term which will be editable while Purchase ORder Creation or Invoicing ( like payment term with "OTHERS" would be created and initially it would be configured for 0 Days and those would be edited while making Purchase Order as per requirement.
Since this is affecting our Ageing Analysis and Payment Due Report as both are based on  Payment Terms in PO.
If anyone has solution pls suggest the way to do it . will assign full marks if gets solution.
    Thanks in advance.
    PS

    Hi
I think we can't maintain cash discounts more than two %.
Goto OBB8, choose account type customer/vendor.
    goto payment terms segment.  1)  3%  days 0  2) 2% days 15.
    3) we can enter %, only days. it means no cash discount.
    Regards,
    Chandra

I cannot use Itunes store to redeem my gift card because it says that my apple id has not been used in the Itunes store yet.  When I click review i then clicked continue and everytime that I agree to the terms and policies on the second page it just sends me back to the top of the page and doesnt allow me to go any farther in the itunes store process any idea of how to get this to work?

Have you done as the message tells you and contacted iTunes Support ? If not (these are user-to-user forums) :
    - go to http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/ww
    - click on your country's flag
    - click on the Contact Support at the bottom of the left-hand column
    - click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page

  • How can I repeat a for loop, once it's terms has been fulfilled???

Well.. I've posted 2 different exceptions about this game today, but I managed to fix them all by myself, but now I'm facing another problem, which is NOT an error, but just a regular question.. HOW CAN I REPEAT A FOR LOOP ONCE IT HAS FULFILLED IT'S TERMS OF RUNNING?!
I've been trying many different things, AND, the 'continue' statement too, and I honestly think that what it takes IS a continue statement, BUT I don't know how to use it so that it does what I want it too.. -.-'
Anyway.. Enought chit-chat. I have a nice functional game running that maximum allows 3 apples in the air in the same time.. But now my question is: How can I make it create 3 more appels once the 3 first onces has either been catched or fallen out the screen..?

  • Credit Memo - Terms of Payment Default

My earlier post received no response, so I am posting again,
In MIRO if I create a credit Memo, payment terms default from PO. (not from vendor master) I do not know if was configured that way. How can I find out ?
I do not want payment terms to default from any thing, neither PO nor vendor master.
It should fall due immediately say based on base line date, which is posting date in our case.
How can I do this ?

    Hi Guys,
Is there any FM available for getting split payment terms in case of customer credit memo(Document type DG). There will be no invoice/billing doc for this document type and will be created from FB75 transaction. For billing document i am using FM SD_PRINT_TERMS_OF_PAYMENT_SPLI. Please let me know if there is any FM for accounting document also.

  • Duplicate check on search term for BP creation in CRM

    HI,
I want to do a duplicate check on search term for BP creation in CRM.
i found one BADI ADDRESS_SEARCH. But the method address_search is not getting called.
Is there any other BADI available? how can I handle this issue?

    hello,
BP is BDT (Business Data toolset) enabled (you can check it by adding break point in FM BUS_PBO and executing BP transaction). You can add your check directly to standard view (the check will be executed each time when user pushes enter) or you could add you check to appropriate action (during saving etc.) there are number of actions which you could use it depends on your requirements. You can find a lot of info about BDT (if you are not familiar) in Wiki.
