Date format with BW MDX Query driver

Hi,
I have a question regarding the BW MDX Query driver.
I have updated the driver from BW Query to BW MDX Query on my crystal reports and all the Date fields have been converted to Strings. Has anyone experienced the same issue?

Thanks for the reply. We have two different environments and are using Crystal XI R2 and Crystal 11. We have installed SAP Integration toolkit XI R2 and SAP GUI 7.1 Patch 14. The date issue is appening in both environments.

I have a requirement wherein I want to display 0CALWEEK info object in the cube in date format with start of week date in the Bex query report. For example if 0CALWEEK is 23.2005 then in Bex report it should display as 06.06.2005. Anyone got any ideas if we can achieve this without adding any additional info object in cube itself ?

Hi Neeraj,
There are multiple ways to achieve this.
1. Virtual characteristics. This approach still requires having a placeholder of 0DATE type in the query, but you don't have to populate it in your load. This could slow down you query as well.
2. Depending of the frontend you using you can run Excel macro (BEx) or Table exit (Web).

Bw publish and connections not based on the sap bw mdx query driver

Dear experts,
we are currently facing a problem with transporting reports that are based on multiple database connections and joined using the cross database join feature of crystal reports. One connection is based on the SAP BW MDX driver, the other is based on a SAP functionmodule.
Now when transporting the reports with STMS and publishing them via /crystal/rptadmin and bwpublish only the bex mdx query connection gets updated. The other connection is still pointing to the original location.
e.g.
transporting
DEV -> PROD
function module still pointing on dev server.
As we need to use the sap default transport system in order to get all features (no SP4 yet) and we can not change the reports manually in the PROD system before publishnig and don't want to mix in the LCM we have no idea how get a work around for this problem.
Changing the database connection via CMC on the PROD system has no effect either.
Please help.

Hello Thorsten,
What you observe is "By Design" of the product. The dynamic update is supported only for reports using the BW MDX driver (or historically for those using the deprecated BW query driver). Other SAP drivers such as the OpenSQL driver which you use to connect to the function module do not leverage the same features when using the SAP Transport process.
You may report directly against your target system when connecting to Function Modules.

I want to filter my cube with three parameters
1. @CacheAttendeesConferenceId
2. @FromCacheAttendeesInsertTimeStamp
3. @ToCacheAttendeesInsertTimeStamp
When i pass following parameters
ConferenceId = 1, StartDate='2010-01-28T00:00:00', EndDate='2010-02-03T00:00:00'
Then it show records
But When i pass following parameters
ConferenceId = 1, StartDate='2010-01-27T00:00:00', EndDate='2010-02-03T00:00:00'
Then it display message No Data Available
PLease help me on this issue why not FromDate & ToDate range works properly.

Step1:- First i create a SSAS datasource. Then i create a cube for my table CacheAttendees.

When i preview my report then it show Cache Attendees].[Conference Id].[1] in header of report instead of that, When i pass the parameter value as 1 then report cannot show & throw an error. I want to pass this parameter at runtime.
Step6:- Please help me how is it possible to pass parameter at runtime.

Date format mask in Enter-Query mode

I'm developing a Form which is able to query the masterblock from a detail-item.
The queryable detail-item is a date field and has a datatype: DATETIME. When a new record is entered the values in the date field are stored in the database like "18-10-2002 15:04:02"
When the form is in enter_query mode the user must be able to enter 18-10-2002 (DD-MM-YYYY format mask, so without time mask). When execute the query with this date format the query is not able to find data.
I used a Key-Execute-Query on the detailblock like this:
SELECT 1.COLUMN
, 2.COLUMN
INTO :1.COLUMN
, :2.COLUMN
FROM TABLE.1
, TABLE.2
WHERE 1.COLUMN = 2.COLUMN

I'm not sure to have got exactly your issue (especially why you have to use that select in master-detail query), but I suggest you to substitute
...AND TO_CHAR(1.COLUMN,'dd-mm-yyyy') = to_date(:avg.datum,'dd-mm-yyyy');
with
...TRUNC(1.COLUMN) = TO_DATE(:avg.datum,'dd-mm-yyyy');
To be fair, I would use it in the where clause, even if you set it dinamically.

1 When we execute and transfer to local file with DAT data format,
- Company code would auto become 401 instead of 0401.
- Hours weekly appear as 40,00 but we want the hours weekly download as 40.00
May i know how i could solve this as we need this downloaded file to be upload to legacy system ?
Should i create custom field to solve it ?

I would output to SAP directory and the legacy system would FTP to get the file from there.
There's no chance to format manually. Is it possible put ABAP code in Field code (In QUERY) to hardcode the company code as Character, so when download to xls, it would not change to numeric ?
May i know which ABAP expect could help on this ? I not good in ABAP code.

Controlling meta data returned by an MDX query

Hello,
I'm retrieving results from Analysis Services then processing them further in SQL via OpenQuery. So I have a query of the form "select * from OpenQuery(LinkedServer, '<mdx>')
The query works fine, but because I have a dimension hierarchy with a seven levels on rows, the result set contains seven columns which I don't need, one column for each level in the hierarchy.
I can ignore them using the syntax "WITH CTE ([1],[2]...) as (<query>) ...", so this doesn't interfere with functionality.
However, I'm wondering if there is some syntax in MDX which will prevent those columns from being returned at all. I'm guessing that regardless of whether they are selected in SQL, that data still has to be processed. The performance impact of this isn't
noticeable on any single query, but it seems like for many queries with many rows it would add up. Is it possible to control the meta data that an MDX result set contains?

When we run MDX query by using OPENQUERY having hierarchy, we will get extra columns describing the values of each hierarchy level in different columns. This behavior is by design and we can't change that.
In addition, we may concern the attribute unique name a little long. The easiest way to remove them is to use an alias. For detail information, please refer to the article below:

SSRS report with cube – MDX query how to get an extra row with value '0'.

Hello everyone,
I'm unable to write the MDX query to get '0' value as first row in output. Following is my MDX query:
WITH MEMBER [Measures].[Dummy] AS   '0'
SELECT NON EMPTY Union( {[Measures].[Amount] },{[Measures].[Dummy]}) ON COLUMNS,

With above query, the output returns the value '0' as a separate column.
I would like to get it in form of first row for [Measures].[Amount]. Like,

What needs to be changed to achieve the above result? I'm planning to use the above value in line chart to start the line from 0th value as described in following URL. (Note: The below URL is using SQL query and not MDX expressions.)

The round brackets in your expression are forcing an implicit crossjoin between the 3 lines. I would do the following which creates a set of the DummyYear plus the real year members and then crossjoin that with the customer set.

But when we are creating the datasource with thin type of driver, it is working fine. We have already created a driver with name ORACLE_DRIVER in server using the ojdbc14.jar using Netweaver administrator consol.
Same this is happening when we are creating the OCI type of datasource by using Netweaver administrator consol by specifying all the parameter as above and also the initial connection pool size is more than zero.
Same thing is happening for normal (JDBC 1x) datasource creation with OCI type driver.

Date format conversion in BEX query level

We had a date field in the numeric format like 735.020 in the cube level, but when we execute the query the values for thsi date field is changed in to date format like 31.05.2013.
we are not having any conversion routines and the date fields are used directly in the query .

Date Format in Visual Studio Query Result Window

Most vendor tools let you change the date format to show datetime in its query results window.
But .NET does not have this.
The ability to change this should be in located in Tools|Options but its not there.
Can it be added in the next release?
ALTER SESSION SET NLS_DATE_FORMAT = 'DD-MON-RR HH:MI:SS' does not work. btw.
.NET and/or ODT over-rides it.

Why would you expect Microsoft to write stuff for an Oracle plugin?! Why on earth would you want to see anything other than the actual raw data that YOU requested in the results of a query? Surely formating/displaying a datetime is a presentation layer thing not a database layer thing! If you're really that bothered re-write your SQL till you get what you want.

I like to change as DD/MM/YYYY. So I tried to do so by going
through my login in SQLPlus and wrote
ALTER SESSION
SET NLS_DATE_FORMAT = 'DD/MM/YYYY'.
The format got changed and there after every query displayed
date in dd/mm/yyyy format. But once I exit sqlplus and reenter
in sqlplus, the format goes away and the default date format i.e
dd-mon-yy comes in existence.
I want to know, how can i make my date format permanent and too
for all users.

You can set this format in 2 ways, one is
local setting and the other one is on server setting.
Edit your c:\windows\oracle.ini (local setting)
or your init.ora (oracle server setting)
and add this script
SET NLS_DATE_FORMAT = 'DD/MM/YYYY'
note: if there's no nls_date_format in oracle.ini, the server
nls_date_format in init.ora will be the current setting
on your PC

How to union results from 3 different dimensions in where clause with or - Mdx query

I have a MDX Query and i need to pass the variable values to it by dynamically.
Each time it will get any one attribute from three dimensions.
Select
{} ON Columns,
{} ON Rows
From
Cube
Where
[Dimension1].[Attribut].&[Value]
or
[Dimension2].[Attribut2].&[Value]
or
[Dimension3].[Attribut3].&[Value]
So It is working for two different values by using union and cross join.
Can you please provide the solution ..

I tried on that way, In my mdx query i am using one slice attribute (i.e [Customer].[Gender].allmembers) in rows so getting error "The Hierarchy already appears in Axis1".

I want the date format from 20100407 to 2010:04:07.....
can anyone give me some ideas....

This behaviour is documented in the Oracle Database 10g Globalization Guide; it also includes the steps on how to revert back to the Oracle 9i locale definitions.

Please note that 10g is using the correct convention, the Oracle9i locale definition files will be desupported in a future release.

How to format an account to show date format with MDX function @FORMATDATE

Hello,
I am working with an ASO cube where all accounts are set as numeric type. We have some accounts which hold date information for eg Date1 member which is a stored member will have data as 20120601 for June 1st 2012. In financial reports, i need to show this data as 06/01/2012 and using as essbase connection in FR, i cannot do this.
While i was looking for a solution, i came across the MDX function called
@FORMATDATE
format_string_expression = MdxFormat ( string_value_expression )
I was hoping that if i add a member say Date2 and make it dynamic and point it to Date1 and have this MDX format command to make the numeric data 20120601 show up as 06/01/2012.
Can this work and if yes, what would be the MDX formula in this case?
Any help in this regard will be a great help...the other alternative i have is to export this date data out into an oracle table, transform that data into to_date and after enabling the type measures in the outline, load it back in...i was hoping to avoid this extra route if this can be done with the formatting via MDX withing the essbase app.
