DC Board Repair under Warranty

My computer's warranty will last another month or so (end of 3 years) and it's one of the later models of the MacBook (not Intel).
In the last few months, I've noticed that the computer is running SUPER hot (so much so that I've been burned). Now, my computer won't charge or run on AC power. My brother checked and there's no pin stuck in there and his laptop runs fine on the charger.
I spend a lot of time in the hospital (I have a serious illness) and being without my laptop is going to be hard for me, but I also can't afford any extra expense right now. Is the DC board covered under the warranty and could that be why the laptop is running so hot? I have an appointment at the nearest Apple Store on Monday afternoon, but I heard those parts are harder to come by and the repair could take a month?

PS, My Laptop is quite old now (almost 3). There are scratches on it (actually a lot of them on the case near where it opens). The scratches were from an old "cover" that had to be removed a year ago. Someone said that would be enough to void my warranty -- except it's nowhere near the dc board!

  • Lenovo b560 repair under warranty

    Hello,
I am currently experiencing problems with the repair service under warranty and would be really greatful if somebody from Lenovo could respond to this.
My laptop (B560) stopped powering with the power adapter attached to it out of nowhere so the next day I went to the local authorized warranty service center where I was told that the B-series laptops are not serviced in Lithuania (where I currently live) and that I should call the Ibm technical center to arrange the shipping of my laptop to Poland where they have an authorized warranty service center which can repair my B560 laptop. I was assured that the shipping cost will be covered by Lenovo, thus, I dispatched this item the next day to Anovo company in Wolomin, Poland. I must add that this laptop was not mechanically damaged in any way and was not used in any way that could contravene with the general exploitation purposes of any computer. And nor did Anovo reported otherwise. However, Anovo qualified it as the CID (Custumor Induced Damage) case and informed me that the total cost of repair would be 104,53€ and in case I refuse to repair my laptop at my own cost I have to pay for diagnosis and logistic - 43,18€. Not only was the qualification as the CID a surprise to me, but also that I have to pay for the item to be qualified as not eligible for warranty repair.
Firstly, this never happend to me with any electronic equipment before (and i used warranty services before with many different brands including IBM‘s warranty service). I was sure that the customer should not pay for a simple verdict that the product does not qualify for the repair under warranty. Moreover, how could they ask me to pay for logistics as well is beyond my understanding of warranty service. Is it my fault that there is no warranty service in the country I bought my laptop and how could I possibly know that they will refuse to repair the laptop under warranty before actually sending it to them? In this case Lenovo (if this is actually Lenovo‘s policy) leaves a customer with two options: the first one being to send it to another country for repair and risk to pay at least double the price one would pay in a local coputer service center (because of logistics price, i guess) or there is the second option to never apply for warranty service at all and pay for any damage (be it manufacturer‘s fault or not) by yourself and, thus, not risk to overpay. Am i being too optimistic to expect that this is not the actual Lenovo‘s policy and attitude towards their customers? At last, the technical support center that i called in Lithuania to register my laptop‘s dispatch to Poland did not warn me about the possibility that I could be charged to pay for the logistics or diagnostics of my computer in case for some reason they decide that it is not eligible for warranty repair.
Secondly, they indicated the problem as the "damaged DC-in socket (pushed-in) which is installed on lower case".  I replied to them with an explanation that the laptop was never damaged by me or any other person and that I can not understand how something in the DC-in socket could be pushed-in in any other way than pushing the power adapter in it, which i believe is exactly what it's purpose is. Isn't it manufacturer's responsibility to assure that no part is "pushed-in" and as a consequence not working when the computer was used carefully and in accord with it's purpose? I hope that it is the manufacturer who should warrant that the weak parts of the product, which were broken when used in accord with it's purpose, are fixed or replaced. To these and other questions I got the response that „Based on Lenovo procedures, we are obligated to qualify such damage as CID. It means that we cannot provide repair under the warranty. It's not our role to arbitrate if some damages are caused by customer misused or not.“
Thus, could someone from Lenovo please look into this issue or tell me what else could I do in this case (or whom should i contact) before thinking of taking any legal actions against Lenovo.
The reference for my laptop is: Lenovo RMA LE110601W0036 , s/n WBxxxxxxxx , model B560
Thank You in advance and sorry for my bad english.
    Regards,
    Julius Zaldokas.

I was in the bathroom at lunch today and it fell out of my pocket flat on the floor. the screen is super cracked at the top right corner and it spreads from there to the bottom left corner. Im sure my mom will be mad, but if i take it to an apple store, will they repair it for free under my one year warranty?

Apple will exchange your iPod for a refurbished one for $199 for 64 GB 4G and $99 for the other 4Gs. They do not fix yours.

  • Lower Left Screen Darker than rest, How to go about repair under warranty?

Well my lower left screen is darker than the rest of my screen on my 12" powerbook g4. My warranty is good for another 88 days but my problem is that sometimes the darkness goes away - and I'm worried that if I send it in for repair that the darkness won't be showing up and they'll just send it back to me. Is there anything I can do about this? Advice?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions, Kris.
Many PowerBook screens can have some form of uneven illumination - but they will normally clear and work 'normally' after it has warmed up. How long does the uneven illumination stay? Unless the problem is evident most of the time, it is quite possible that the screen will be deemed to be within spec. My own experience with the problem, overall, is that it does not get better with time - it either stays the same or gets worse.
If you do have it inspected (either by an Apple Authorised Service Provider or by AppleCare) then you can prepare it by doing the following:
    1. set the brightness to half
    2. set the desktop background to Solid White in "Desktop & Screen Saver" within System Preferences
NB. Solid White is just to the right of the last colour, Solid Mint.

  • Repairs under Warranty whilst moving countries

Hi, I bought my Toshiba Satelite laptop 10 months ago in Germany and i´m moving back to England in one month´s time, my laptop has had really great timing and there´s a problem with the cooling system.
My warranty isn´t worldwide however it does say if I change countries I can simply just notify Toshiba support to change the home country.
Now is a month´s time ok for the repair? The fan still works and everything runs as normal however I don´t want to test it out too much if something else goes wrong...
    Thanks!

    Hi Ishbar,
Can you hook it up to an external monitor and see if it's the same?

  • My WIFI keeps on disconnecting and even after reporting and suggestion by support the phone hasnt been replaced or repaired under warranty

I think I have had enough. So its been a long time back and forth between me and you. Since I am not getting any solution and same thing you guys are providing me again and again.
I want to take a step back and list down a few things which have happened so far :-
I started chatting with the apple support on this issue starting September - please refer back to your chats on this Serial Number.
I have factory reset my phone like 20 times since then as each time they asked me to follow few steps which made me loose my data as your icloud doesn't work properly as stated by your customer care support people itself that sometimes the back up doesn't happen so please take back up at your laptop too.
Send phone diagnostics by clicking on a link.
    reset your WIFI settings
Call apple support after 24 hours of observation.
Next day when same issue occurs then extreme Apology.
Take Back up on computer and Icloud both and contact apple support once its done
    Call apple support again.
Factory Reset by erase all contents and setting options. Once one call back again.
wait and analyse for a whole day after setting up apple ID and data.
    Wifi Issue stil exists.
    Call apple support again
Between all this I had to explain the issue each time to a new representative. This above process I have gone through at least 7-8 times. Please go and refer your call notes.
So finally i got to know after escalating it several times and one of your supervisors told me that the issue is a hardware issue and it can only be replaced as they have tried it all.
Supervisor assured me that he has recommended it to be replaced in notes and asked me to visit a center.
I called in local distributor and set up an appointment, unfortunately couldnt make it. So call them to reschedule as I am working women so i dont have all the time in life to keep interacting with associate after associate so thought of walking in to an apple store near by and lodge a complaint. The supervisor updated me that I have warranty left and it will be replaced without any cost and also if i report and issue in warranty and if apple is not able to resolve it so the warranty stands true until its completely resolved after customer's consent.
I went in to give my phone to the tech support and they kept it for analysis and came back saying the issue doesnt exist. I was getting a disconnection in my WIFI every now and then. My Data plan was always used and i fortunately have a proof of that.
Customer rep told me talk to apple support and if they say we will replace it. One more place added where customer has to go.
Now and back to square one - They say phone is damaged - we cant replace it. First of all the phone is not damaged and you guys are just finding reasons to not replace a faulty phone.
It randomly disconnects and its listed as a known issue on your website too. had this not been listed i would have never thought its the phone. Then I started to observe that its the phone that makes a disconnection and not the WIFI connections as it was everywhere home, office and at friends place.
Best i can do is call you guys when this happens if you guys promise me that the tech employee of apple can come to whatever location i suggest at that point and do not be surprised if the phone behaves normal when the person arrives as its random.
Now you want pictures of my phone and you want to analyse further.

After making an appointment and waiting over a week I was a few minutes late for my appointment I was told by apple I would have to make a new appointment. The shop was Chatswood in Sydney and the manager Mathew was very pathetic. I travelled 1 hour each way and was treated very poorly I must comment and say this was my first Apple devices and I will never understand how come people are buying these devices. The apps seem really good if only the hardware and the support could match. I really wish this manager all his best to Matthew in his next position somewhere else he obviously should not be in the position of managing an Apple store.

  • Example of NI's Detailed Module/Board Repair Report

Is an example available of NI's Detailed Module/Board Repair Report.  I am returning an SCXI-1581 module for repair under warranty due to a single channel being >25% out of spec.  A detailed repair report can be purchased from NI for $99.  I need to determine if the detailed repair report contains info from which I can determine why the SCXI-1581 module was out of spec after < 6 months usage.

  • How do I get an invoice re-sent from a Genius Bar for a handset replaced under warranty?

I took my iPhone 5 into a Genius Bar for a speaker issue. I was immediately emailed an invoice for the repair under warranty and told to come back in an hour. After an hour, they decided to replace the handset completely under warranty, but I don't have an email invoice relating to this replacement. The new handset needs to now be repaired under my carrier insurance, but they need to see an invoice from apple with the new handset's IMEI written on it.
Since I live a few hours away from a Genius Bar I really don't want to go in person just to ask for an invoice to be sent. Is there another way?
I have looked on my account at the online apple store and it's not there.
Can anyone point me in the right direction? It was just over 6 months ago in the Carindale store in QLD.
    Thanks!
    Jo

You will need to call or visit the Apple Store and ask if they can resend the invoice. They're the only ones who can help you.

  • HT3974 Hard drive under warranty - Apple need old HD back

We have just had a company laptop repaired under warranty due to a faulty harddrive amongst other issues.
I was told the hard drive has been replaced, however Apple need the old HD back. Unless of course you pay for the new hard drive.
Due to our companys policies and ISO's we need documentation of the disposal of this hard drive and to ensure it complies with the data protection act.
My questions been, do Apple have any documentation which I can be sent to support us that the hard drive has been correctly disposed and all data removed.
Alternatively is there anywhere to get this hard drive back, without paying for a new one.
    Thanks for you time,

Depending where you live in the world, there might be local laws that help you.
My understanding is that normall procedure is that the faulty component goes back to Apple, who have their own internal channels for disposal. Are you dealing with Apple directly or a service provider? In the case of a service provider, they will need (99% of the time) to return the faulty drive to Apple in order to get paid for their work.
The drive will pass through quite a few hands. If you have concerns about unauthorised access to the data, then I would just pay the money and get the drive back. In fact, if there are real concerns or requirements, it's probably best that the drive never leaves your custody.
Your best bet is to talk directly to Apple. If you say the right things to the right person, you will likely get a satisfactory outcome.

  • Do i have to pay replacement price under warranty?

Microphone of my iphone didn't work so i went to apple and as it was under warranty they gave me a new one but now i received an e-mail saying that proce of repair is £115 but amount due is £0 does it mean i have to pay anything?

Likely "Accidental Damage" done to the device, this voids free repair under warranty. Things like broken screen, dented casing, or liquid damage are considered accidental. Call apple and they will have notes reporting the reason for charging out of warranty repair cost. They have pictures too, so lying is not smart =)

  • Process for billing the customer if the repair does not fall under warranty

    Hello,
I got one issue related to repair process, We have restricled the item quantity to only one at item categoty level. BUt i am facing the below problem with my cklient
what is best practice for billing the customer if the repair does not fall under warranty?
Please suggest which process i suggest to client

    Hi there,
When you mean warranty, where is that updated in the system? In any master data or Z table?
Usual practise is basing on the serial num of the material. From the serial num, users will be able to back track from which sales order this material is initially delivered to the customer. The info is stored in standard tables (for eg EQUI)
One way of doing this is to define a 100% discount condition type in your pricing. Thsi discount will apply only when the customer is in warranty. For this you will need to write a code in teh requirement routine for that condition type in V/08. If warranty is stored in a Z table, then call that Z table & compare it with your sales order. If yes, only then 100% discount will apply & repair cost will be zero. Else, repair charge will be billed to customer.
It depends how your business will monitor repairs. If they raise a service order, then you will need to define a service pricing procedure in which you will include the 100% discount. In this case service order is always referenced with ref to a sales order.
    Regards,
    Sivanand
