Debug on device via usb is disabled

I have an iPhone4 plugged in via usb.
I an create ipa files and put them on the phone using iTunes.
I would like to be able to use the test/debug on device via usb, but in the menu, it's disabled.
Anyone know how I could get it to enable and work?
(Flash cs5.5)
Cheers
Dave

Thanks for the quick reply.
I wonder if it is an Android only capability, but Adobe® didn't tell us this because they would lose a ton of money.
That ability was the only reason I upgraded.  I had to jump through many hoops in my company to get IT to approve it.  And now its no better than CS5 for my purposes.
Adobe.. lil' help?

my ipad is not charging while connected to any device via usb cable

If you mean that you've connected it to a computer's USB port then a lot of computers don't provide enough power to their USB ports to charge the iPad at a sufficient rate - it may still be charging slowly, and should be a bit quicker if the iPad's screen is off (if you leave it for a while and then disconnect it from your computer you may find that it's battery percentage has gone up). The wall charger is usually the most efficient way to charge the iPad.

  • Why is debugging an AIR for Android on device via USB so awful?

I've used Flash 8, Flash Pro CS4, CS5, CS5.5, and now CS6 and I have to say when it comes to debugging it is absolutely the worst environment I've ever worked in. Over the years the number of times I've successfully debugged an application can be counted on one hand. Really, its that bad. Flash will crash or stop responding. I place a breakpoint in the code and Flash will either: A) Ignore it, B) "Breakpoint not set; No executable code at line ###" C) Crash and burn. D) breakpoint turns on but can never be turned off.
Its infuriating and maddening. After this much time why can't Adobe make the debugger work?
Frankly, because of this I have to write ALOT of trace statements into my code.
Has Adobe just given up on the debugger in Flash Pro? As a developer should I be trying to convince my company  to switch over to Flash Builder?
For example, right now I'm trying to debug an AIR for Android 3.4.0.2540 via USB on a Motorola Droid 2. I can publish and run in debug mode and see all my trace statements just fine. But I know the instant I need to try to set a breakpoint I'm doomed. Or if my code gets in a race condition like right now. The breakpoints in the new code I added were ignored (see B above) and I can find no options in the Debug menu to break into my app and observe what code it is currently executing. My only option is to end the debug session.
Can anyone comment on debugging in Flash Builder vs. Flash Pro? Is it any better?
Can anyone suggest a solid development environement with debugging that supports Actionscript 3 or can compile it to some other language or object code that would allow me to reliably debug code?
I'm sorry for venting like this. I like Actionscript 3 and I even like Flash Pro until it comes to debugging. But at this point I really need to consider other options so I can get some work done.

    Hi Chris,
I also have an HTC Legend, and I'm trying to make some tutorials about publishing from Flash Builder to Android.
I've notice this also, and I must say, it's a complete deception that AIR cannot support this phone, and certainly it seems that upgrading to the Android 2.2 was a bad option, since I defenitly was able to make a simple flash game, and some other exeperiments, and got them to work with AIR when this phone had Android 2.1
If it runs on Android 2.1, maybe it was a an upgrade that make AIR incompatible with this device on Android 2.2. Is there any way of running it, maybe forcing to install a AIR version that works.
I was starting to program on Flash Builder, and experimenting on my Legend, but now I stumbled on this.
    Thanks,
    Leonel

  • After upgrading Flame device to 2.0 production, can't connect to device via USB. Is there any hidden step I missed?

Hi guys, I upgraded mi Flame to FirefoxOS 2.0 following the guideslines on https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/Firefox_OS/Developer_phone_guide/Flame.
I updated to 'latest v2.0' of production builds. It rebooted normally and I checked out version improvements, but I now I can't access the device via adb or fastboot or throught Web IDE.
I selected ADB and developer tool for USB debugging and nothing. Only ADB and nothing.
I even tried factory reset but It kept v2.0 and no adb connection :(
    Any suggestion?
    Thank in advance

    Hi hectorfhurtado,
I encountered the same issue today when attempting to file and log some bugs for Firefox OS. I asked on the IRC channel #b2g and got the following response from Fabrice:
"''known bug, should be fixed in tomorrow's update.''"
I hope this information is helpful. Please let us know if you have any other questions.

  • Conecting ipod classic to other devices via USB

I have the 160GB ipod and I just bought a new sound system to my car(PIONEER DEH-P7980UB) with a USB conection specially to play music with the ipod. The problem is that when I make the conection the sound system´s display shows the message " error 11" and keeps the message "format read" all the time. The PIONEER customer support says that the problem is the configuration of my ipod but I don´t know how to fix it.
Just to be sure I tried to conect other pen drives or devices with USB and all worked properly.
    Can somebody help me?
    Thanks
    Mr Josh

I re-vamped my car stereo this past summer and spent a while researching on different decks and options on how to integrate the ipod into the system. now i could be completely wrong on this, but some decks that have usb connectors on the outside may be great for connecting other mp3 players, but ipods are fickle and from what i remember don't get read by most decks using the ipod cable that came with the player. i installed a pioneer deck and had to buy the cd-ib100II in order to connect the ipod functionally. while it does cost a little more, it's handy when used with certain decks because it charges it for you and you can control the ipod through your deck or the remote leaving the ipod hidden in your glove compartment (or wherever you choose to wire it to). You just got to be really careful about whether the deck is labeled "ipod ready", "ipod compatable", or however they choose to phrase it. if you ask the guy's at the store or look the product up on discussion boards like this one dedicated to pioneer or even your deck itself, there may be answers on how to set yourself up right.

  • Mount device via USB in single user mode

    Hi.
Help much needed. My macbook pro appeared to be crashed with harddisk problem
at start time... unable to boot to normal login screen.
When I run in single user mode, I dont seem to see my thumbdrive, or external device.
I connected them via the USB ports on my Macbook pro (17")(Snow Leopard)
    I checked /dev/disk* and saw only disk0 (disk0, disk0s1, disk0s2, disk0s3).
I never get to see disk1 no matter what I tried. (I've various MSDOs format,
    or NTFS format disks).
    I followed the advise here:
    http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=232365
Am I supposed to be able to see the drive the moment I connect it to the
    port?
    Thanks.
    Marc

When I insert the disk, the root prompt would come telling me the USBMSC message. So, it does know I inserted the external drive. But yet, no new refresh of the /dev.
The device should be listed in /dev after the USBMSC message whether you mounted the root file system write or not.
    $ ls /dev/disk*
    /dev/disk0 /dev/disk0s1 /dev/disk0s2 /dev/disk0s3
Either the boot partition table is APM or GPT with two partitions.
I went to /Volumes and able to read the directory of files that I want to copy.
You should stay out of the /Volumes directory. Reference your path like->
    ls -l /Users/<your name>/Documents/
And avoid creating mount points in the /Volumes directory. It is used by diskarbitration.
At this point, I would stop running fsck_hfs on the device (or any other utility) and either try to mount the drive via firewire disk mode or have someone block copy the disk.

  • Tried to update device software, now can't connect to device via USB

I tried to update my 8100 to the 4.5 software.  I first updated the desktop software to 4.7, then tried to update the device, but the process failed.
Now, when I open desktop manager it shows as not connected to the device.  I can go into the device mamager properties and select the balckberry, but when I return to the destop amanger it says no device.
It appears that whatever I do it does not recognise the usb device.
The display on the 8100 is only text, no graphics or phone company info, and it is basically inoperable.
There are options on the display for some applications, but if I choose them, it says app not found.
Is there a way to force an update to it?  Or have I poohed this phone?
    Thanks in advance
    edit:
I have pulled the battery on the unit to reboot it, and have tried going back to an older revision of desktop manager

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    1. Unplug the BB from the USB and PC. Reboot the PC completely from off.
    2. For the BB, you might not have loaded back the Theme that was in use on the device when you upgraded, which will normally give you a black/white screen. You need to follow the instructions below.
You will need to use JL_Cmder to wipe the device and subsequently load the OS to the device. Follow the instructions here:

    Hi ,
Please provide more info on the above issue:
1.What is the message shown when you try to debug the application via USB on iOS device ?
2.Are you able to debug on other iOS devices ?
Run this below command from commandline :
    "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Flash Builder 4.7 (64 Bit)\eclipse\plugins\com.adobe.flash.compiler_4.7.0.348139\AIRSDK\lib \aot\bin\iOSBin\idb.exe" -devices

  • IOS devices not recognized in iTunes via USB

I am on a Windows 7 x64 home-built computer and I am pretty technically inclined, but this one problem has been bugging me for quite a while now.
I am pleased that Apple wants its devices to sync wirelessly with iTunes from now on, but there are times when it is necessary to plug in the device via USB, such as when transferring large files.
However, in the last few weeks/months, I have noticed that iTunes will not recognize my iPhone 4 nor my iPad 2 when they are plugged in via USB.  The computer recognizes the devices, drivers are installed properly, and I can see the devices in Windows Explorer, getting photos off of them that way.  However, iTunes does not show the devices with that "plugged in" icon next to them, only the usual sync/eject icon.
This is also a problem because sometimes iTunes just won't "see" the devices, but sometimes it will.  Regardless, I need to be able to tether them sometimes for transferring relatively large files via USB.  Wi-Fi just isn't fast enough.  I suppose I may have to disable Wireless syncing altogether, but I fear that may not fix the problem, because it was syncing via USB just fine in the early weeks of iOS 5 and with wireless syncing enabled.  I do have the latest iTunes, I do have the latest firmware for both devices, and I have rebooted both my computer and the devices several times lately, all without effect.
I've done all the simple solutions and none of them have worked.  Can anyone explain what's going on and, more importantly, what I can do about it?

Yeah, I've tried 5 out of the 7 steps shown in their troubleshooter.  The sixth step is one that is a major pain and I doubt would fix the problem: Reinstall iTunes.  I know enough about PCs to feel about 80% confident that this step would not fix the issue.  Plus, it's a major hassle with re-adding music to the collection.  Nevertheless, I will look at it as a last ditch effort.
The seventh step is extremely vague and doesn't really help.  "There might be a software conflict."  Fine, but there's no way to find any such conflict, if one even exists in the first place, without a heavy dose of trial-and-error, several hours of time, dozens of reboots, and the patience of Job.
However, they do list some other steps that I'll try when I get home, such as making sure certain services are installed and running.  I'll post my results here.  Thanks, wiclee.

  • Any reason why iTunes would not sync with my iOS device using USB cable?

    Hi there,
what could be the reason if iTunes won't sync with my iOS 5 devices via USB? The devices are recognized in iTunes (I can see the devices there and all the content stored on these devices), but the sync does not work...
BTW: I tried several different USB cables already...
I am using Mac OS X Lion on a MacBook Pro Late 2011.
    Thanks

I can't recommend any learning resources, especially since what you are going to be doing likely falls under the category of basic untutorialed coding.
When I decided to take the plunge I had a project in hand that I had just created in AS2, and what I did was restart the project using AS3, tackling each coding element as it came up. One nice thing about AS3 is that it is much better with pointing out coding errors--while cryptic at times, you get better at interpretting them with time--and when you don't get any, chances are you are on the right track.  So you try something and if it flies, great, and if an error message pops up, you pursue solving the error.
In most cases, the Flash help documents are a sufficient reference, but in other cases I would rely on Google.  Just as a for instance, you mention using key listeners... That would be something I would have serach Google using "AS3 key listener", and I'm willing to bet you'd find something to get you over the hump.  Sometimes it helps to add "tutorial" to the end of a search string... it can help weed out all the others that have psotings on forums that are offering problems rather than solutions.

I thin it's is because the all new drivers. The drivers for the USB 2.0 is from Windows 2000 service pack 4. Version 5.1.2600.1 from 2/15/2003. In the Device Manager I have 5 entries, one USB 2.0 Root Hub and four USB Root Hub. And other group of 5 entries one named VIA USB Enchanced Host Controller and the other four VIA USB Universal Host Controller.

Yes, this is normal.  Those usually share the same IRQ (21), because they are children of the same parent device.
If your USB works OK, I would leave it alone.  If you ever have USB problems, you can try the latest VIA driver for USB2.0:

  • Flash Pro debugging on Nexus 7 via USB didn't work - at first.

I had a wonderful day so far. Although I have debugged on my Nexus 7 in the past, today it just didn't want to work.
Perhaps there are some bugs to be found here, but I'll leave that up to Adobe to decide.
I'd already been testing an app on my Droid 2 phone and then I switched to my Nexus 7.
Notification says its connected for USB debugging. Clicking on the notification brings up the developer option menu, but I notice its not in my settings screen where it used to be. (Must have disappeared after the last system update.)
I goto settings -> About tablet -> click the build number 7 times ( I hear its 10 for the Nexus 10)
Device now says I'm a developer and I can access the Developer options from the settings menu.
    USB debugging is already checked.
Using the Nexus 7 notification I switched USB connection from a media device to a camera device.
I try to debug my app in Flash Pro, AIR for Android 3.5.0.880 but it just hangs when trying to load the app via USB.
I check the Win7 USB drivers - they are up to date. I uninstall and reinstall them anyway.
I made sure I had the latest version of Android SDK installed - no new USB drivers show up though.
Since I'm debugging, it has toggled off captive runtime.
I go to Android platform tools and run adb logcat from a cmd prompt and it can't seem to kill the outdated server and create a new one.
I visit StackOverflow. From advice I found there I open up my Win7 Task Manager and found 8 copies of ADB.exe running.
I kill them all. But every time I have to cancel out of a hung-up attempt by Flash Pro to publish to a USB device, more of those ADB.exe tasks get left behind and they have to manually be killed.
Now I can run adb logcat and see my device logs.
Finally it dawns on me that my Nexus 7 is running the latest version of AIR 3.7.0.186
On a hunch, I switch Flash Pro up to using AIR for Android 3.7.0.1530 and try again to debug. It forces to captive runtime and then runs the app on the device.
Turns out my Droid 2 device, which was running the debug app just fine, was running AIR 3.7.0.166. So I updated it to the latest version of AIR just to see if it exhibited the same problems - fortunately it didn't.
What irony. I'm developing on AIR 3.5 because AIR 3.7 forces captive runtime on my app and I don't always want that. But now it appears that AIR 3.7 has the added "benefit" of preventing debugging of older, non-captive runtime AIR apps on some devices. Actually, after further testing I can't even publish an AIR 3.5 captive-runtime app (debug off) straight to the device. No error though - just a silent hangup. I suppose that's one way Adobe can force developers to upgrade to the latest version of AIR and just accept having captive runtime forced on them. I have to wonder though if all my previously published apps are now going to stop working if users upgrade their devices to AIR 3.7.0.186. I really hope not.
Update: I can still side-load an AIR 3.5 captive-runtime app onto my Nexus 7 and run them.
And older AIR 3.4 versions of the apps I work with still function on my Droid 2 running the latest AIR 3.7 runtimes. That makes be feel better.
I hope this info helps other developers.

Thank you! This is the only thing that fixed my problem after hours and hours of searching.
I had the same problem with the publishing never completing. It turns out that I was publishing to AIR 3.4 while my device has 3.8. Updating the SDK solved all of my problems. Thanks again!

  • How to disable the 30 seconds of CDROM installer when connecting via USB?

A few days ago my wife and I acquired two Samsung Galaxy S3 phones as our first smart phones.  When I connect either phone to any of the three different Windows 7 computers I have tried, the phone mounts as a virtual CDROM containing a Verizon software installer.  After 30 seconds elapse, it switches to a portable device (phone) and I can see the folders and files on the phone that I want to access via USB.
Having to wait for that 30 seconds of CDROM phase is super-annoying.  Is there any way I can disable that stupid CDROM behavior and have the phone directly mount as a phone?
Somebody else's description of this same problem is here:
<< Link removed to comply with Verizon Wireless Terms of Service >>
Like the person in that forum post, I have disabled the CDROM in Windows Device Manager.  Windows no longer pops open an autorun dialog, but the CDROM is present and will stay connected for 30 seconds.  From the phone side I can display the notifications, tap into the USB connection notification (it says the phone is connected as an "installer"), and then select Media Device or Camera to force the phone out of CDROM mode, but that is not a persistent choice and I have to do it every time I don't want to wait for the 30 seconds to elapse.  It's annoying.
General googling turns up various discussion about this, but the solutions all assume ...  a road I want to go down at this time.
    Thanks...

You might try holding down shift when connecting to the PC. That won't solve your default connect option issue, but may stop the autoplay check for the device.
A better solution might be to simply use an app like WiFi File Explorer or AirDroid, both available in Play. This eliminates the USB piece and once you get accustom to it is generally much easier than how you are trying to manage your files.

When connecting 6720 Classic via USB cable to my Acer laptop all USB ports on laptop seize to work and Windows display a message that the USB device has malfunctioned. Eventually the PC is permanently stucked and only way to proceed is reset laptop on power button and prior to that remove the laptop charger to entirely power it off and let it reboot on battery. Harddisk controller is permanently indicating with a green light but harddisk is not spinning. When this happens the Nokia phone does not prompt for USB usage (connection type) and is also hanging in application execution for a while. I would like to be able to configure the phone not to charge via USB, but have not found a way to do that. I believe that the charging via USB is creating a low level hw driver and power surge problem in my laptop. Problem is not consistent but happens from time to time. When connecting the normal 230 VAC charger to Nokia device so the Nokia device is charging when connecting to laptop via USB the problem does not occur. In this situation the Nokia device will not try to charge from USB connection.
Any possibility to disable the charging over USB on the Nokia 6720 Classic device??

I had the same problem with my 6720 when I connected it to my HP laptop via USB to download maps. It crashed my computer making all USB ports unusable until I restarted the computer again. I think it happened after I downloaded the necessary software upgrade. I had to eventually use bluetooth to transfer maps data to my phone. It worked without any hitches. Can someone at Nokia fix this problem with the USB?
