Debugging input issue (4-finger tap freezes input on apple trackpad)

Hi,
I've just noticed that my Apple Magic Trackpad in conjunction with bcm2048 freezes, when tapped with 4 fingers (I've been observing these freezes for a while, however never been able to figure out what triggers them).
Now, I'm willing to make a bug-report, however I don't know which component is affected (it may be bcm2048 driver, magicmouse driver, etc.). By now, I only checked xev and observed, that 4-finger tap is not interpreted by xev at all. However, I'm not able to make a conclusion, I don't have even basic idea how input works in linux.
What would you suggest to do to figure out, which component is affected?
Thanks.

Apple->System Preferences->Trackpad , UNcheck "Dragging" if checked and Uncheck "Clicking" if checked. Close System Prefs and try safari again. good Luck

  • Pinyin Typing Lag and Finger-Tap Malfunction

So I updated to Lion and I'm having two problems (that I'm aware of so far): The computer lags when I type Pinyin. It seems to have trouble loading the characters. Moreover, the finger-tap function won't allow me to highlight text in any program. Everything was fine until I restarted my computer. That's all I'm having trouble with so far.

Sorry I can't help, but I'm experiencing similar issues. Sometimes it will take two or three strokes of my finger for it to register.

  • Yoga 3 11 - Right-click doesn't always work / how to enable two finger tap?

    Hi,
I'm based in Sydney, Australia now. Please can you post the contact details, when I go through the warranty page, it gives me local service centres which aren't much help. Thanks

Right click not working might be a hardware issue, or even a driver problem that you might want to invove support since you're under warranty.   BUT, if you want two finger tap?  I don't know why, but this very useful feature seems to have been removed on most win 8/8.1 machines.  Even those that had the feature enabled in win7 lost it upgrading to 8/8.1. I researched the issue and found that the feature can often be restored via the registry.  I tried to get this feature back on my Yoga 3 14 via the registry with no success, though it worked like a charm on my HP Slim Quad.  The only option I found was using a 6yr old program called 2 finger scroll <which lenovo won't let me post a link for!!>   In settings  tapping tab set 2 fingers to right click.  Disable everythig else.  Particularly avoid the 1+1 finger option as it will drive you mad while typing.  Don't forget to ckick the "starrt with windws" check box too. Maybe with win10, someone will step up and fix this glaring omission?  Many complain about its loss in win8.x and have been for years.   MS, Elan, Synaptics and the laptop mfg's seem to turn a deaf ear.  This feature has worked for years and continues to work on Macs.  It's one of the reasons Mac trackpads are considered vastly superior to most windows machines.

  • Two finger tap right click not working

Is anyone having a problem with two-finger tap to right click?  Two-finger tap to right click was working fine for a while, but it suddenly stopped on my Yoga 13.
I reinstalled the touchpad drivers, and it worked for a few days, then it stopped again.  Two-finger click still works fine.  So does one-finger tap to left click.
    Strange....

  • HT5622 Constantly asked to input my apple id password

I have recently be getting a request to input my Apple ID request every time I unlock my iphone. Is this due to the hacking of Apple that occurred or am I having some other issue?

Just to confirm the 'Hacking' of apple was only in relation to their developer website and although some customer information was potentialy obtained, it was heavily encrypted and can not be accessed.
I would check to see if you have an app which is trying to update or possibly a service such as Find my friends, Find my iPhone or Gamecentre which hasnt had the password entered correctly. Also if you have the email address linked to you apple ID set up on your phone, I would check to make sure its not that password that the phone is requesting.

  • When i get started my IMessage i input my apple ID then when i sign in it goes back again

I had the same issue Berry.  What worked for me was going to the General Settings and doing a reset from there.  I got all my apps back but had to re-enter all my information for iTunes, Netflix, Hulu etc...

  • Export Next Page Zoom and Search Issues - blank/white page freezes report

I'm using a vendor product that uses Crystal Reports Viewer for .NET v13.0 on a 64-bit windows 2008 server.
Everthing works fine in the vendor's environment but when I installed it on my servers when I try and Export, click next page, zoom or search I get a plain white overlay over the normal UI and it freezes the report.
Specifically if I click the export icon for a split second I can see the export dialog show up but it's immediately covered up by a white page that is the same size as the export dialog.  The rest of the report is shaded gray as normal but it freezes that way.  If I click on the gray area then hit ESC it goes back to normal, but I can't export anything.
Same basic behavior when I click Next or try and search for text.  A small progress window shows but is white only then, I can't hit ESC and have to close the report out.
With zoom if I click on the zoom drop-down I see the zoom choices for a split-second but it's again covered over by whiteness.
I've searched through this forum quite a bit and can't find any similar issues.  I can see all other graphics just fine and this same server was working fine with the 2008 version in the past.  Are there any temp directories or special permissions required?
    Thank you!
    Tony.

    Hi Tony,
If it is an install issue there should be a log folder that may indicate if there was a problem.
They really need to dig into the problem, if they have questions pass them along or if they have support with us they can create a case to help debug the issue.
You may want to search hear also, there have been a few post on this question but not sure what the results are.
    Thanks

  • G500 (20236) TouchPad One Finger Tap

    Hi,
I have a G500.  The computer is ok except for one thing!  The touchpad is not so good!  I have the general sensitivity dialed in to where it's acceptable, but one finger tapping is erratic.  It just doesn't respond normally.  Normal tapping works at times, but every once in a while I need to practically jump up and down on the touchpad!  I've updated to the newest Elan 11.4.25.1 driver...no real help.  Any ideas?  Is there another beta driver that is being tested to alleviate this issue.  I'm willing to try any workaround!
    Thanks,
    Jim

    Hi Jim,
As the issue is same before and after upgrading to windows 8.1, it seems to be hardware related. I would Strongly Suggest Calling Technical Support for Assistance to get the information of the nearest Authorized Service Center to get the issue analyzed.
Click here to open a link where you can select the country and get the exact contact support number. I’m sure they will be a great help.
Do post us back for further queries.

  • Set Firefox to open a new tab without selecting it from the context menu by two-finger tapping in Lion

In Snow Leopard, I had somehow set the two finger tap to open a new tab either from a link on a page or from my bookmarks bar, without having to select "Open a new tab" from the context menu. I recently upgraded to Lion and I can't remember how I set this feature-- or is it just not available anymore?

There is a plugin for this and you can configure it as shown in the attached screen to open all links from the web page in a new tab by just clicking on it and not having to follow the native steps

  • Java causing three-finger tap to fail

I just recently noticed a really.... REALLY bad bug in Java on the mac. Confirmed it affects Safari and Chrome. Java is messing up the 3-finger tap gesture that looks up the definition of a word (a word tapped with three fingers... for those who are unaware... it's an awesome feature). When you do the three-finger tap gesture, the little pop-up window closes right away, sometimes instantaneously.
I last saw this bug in Lion.
It's now back in MOUNTAIN LION~!!!!
I figured it's Java because I also get the blinking graphics glitches in Safari and when I disable Java and Javascript, I can execute the three-finger tap gesture without the pop-up window automatically closing.
Also noticed this problem only happened after the last Safari 6.0.2 update but it also affects the gesture in Chrome for some really weird reason.

Found the solution to the problem: reinstall JAVA:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1572
The link above gives you the standalone Java installer. For Pete's sake... all that digging around. There have been threads on this same problem and people asking how to de-install and re-install Java .... well there's the solution right above!

  • TS3274 My original iPad takes about 5 long seconds before responding to my finger tap in the safari window. Like I tap in Safari window, then count 5 seconds before I can begin typing my search words. Is this normal? I really don't remember it taking so l

My original iPad takes about 5 long seconds before responding to my finger tap in the safari window. Like I tap in Safari window, then count 5 seconds before I can begin typing my search words. Is this normal? I really don't remember it taking so long when I bought it, but it has been this way for awhile. I have closed all open apps many times to no avail. I just reset all settings and still 5 seconds. I don't have a lot on my iPad with plenty of free space available. Also, I have to click twice on many things that typically take one click. Like it highlights it with first click, then second click completes the action that normally would be done in one click, like Facebook like button. Like will underline with click one, then will change to like on second click. Do I need to try to restore from my computer?
    Thanks for any help!

Ive tried that but when Im logged in I dont have all the permmisions I should have so it just runs the test for my usernames own little virtual world.  Ive been using macs for over a decade now and I have never had my computer do anything like this. while sitting in front of my screen I watched the mouse go to some personal files and change the permissions and then covered their tracks by changing the timestamp on the file dates back. I watched it happpen while all internet conections were off.  I had my identity stolen, my facebook password changed, my email accounts closed out. and my firmware password changed all within two weeks of the origninal boot date

  • Dock application gets killed itself on Lion, how to debug this issue?

Hi, Dock application gets killed itself and it dissappears and relaunches itself after for few seconds, This is happening for every 5 min or so. it is quite annoying problem. how to debug this issue? any help?

When I look the system logs - there is an exception each time I try to run the application or open a window:
9/5/09 10:33:12 PM Linear[23545] Cannot create BOOL from object <Regression: 0x1461f0> of class Regression

  • Why am I seeing this:  Built-in Input by Apple Inc. is overloaded!!!

I see this message in the console every 3 minutes and sometimes 3 times in a row (individual messages) and last message repeated 3 times:
    2/24/08 3:34:39 PM [0x0-0x18018].com.apple.dock[185] 2008-02-24 15:34:39.208 DashboardClient[2614:ad0b] * Audio Device: Built-in Input by Apple Inc. is overloaded!!!
My guess is that the problem application is the toast voice recorder in dashboard, but the message seems significant; why else would any sane person use 3 exclamation marks?
    Setup for audio is this:
    Mac mini-
    Optical OUT to Receiver
Optical IN from Receiver MD port (this is always lit regardless of signal)
USB Audio OUT (analog) to turtle beach usb adapter (shows as C-Media) adapter.
The analog is because I wanted remote volume on the Apple remote.
Does anybody else see this message? Is this worth worrying about, a bug, or worth troubleshooting; and if I should troubleshoot it then what suggestions does anybody have?
    Thanks in advance,
    -Jason

How would I know? Because in the Recents tab it will show, first
    Home
    from Current Location
    then:
    315 8th Street, New York
from John Smith [a contact of mine]
    12 Locust Street, Houston
from Sally Jones [another contact of mine]
    Etc.
Oddly, after submitting my question, a new one popped up:
1 Infinite Loop [at Apple HQ in Cupertino]
    from Apple Support Communities Updates
I can send a screenshot of this if you'd like.
Oh, and the addresses it shows are NOT these people's home address, but clearly addresses they've searched for or mapped locations to recently.
I can tell because some friends all mapped directions to a mutual friend's house who had a party last weekend.
