Debugging Webstart applications

In order to debug a webstart application (remotely) some parameters (e.g. -Xdebug -Xrunjdwp:transport=...) have to be added to the JVM of the application.
Because WebStart-JVM terminates after launching the application in a seperate JVM the debug-parameters are useless for the application-JVM.
To solve the problem either
a) WebStart must be told not to invoke a seperate JVM or
b) there has to be a place (e.g. the JNLP-file) where to enter the debugging parameters belonging to the application-JVM.
Can anybody give me some hints how to solve a) and/or b)?

I already looked at www.vamphq.com. But I only found a description how to start the WebStart-JVM with debugging parameters set and a small untillity which sets the parameters automatically for the WebStart-JVM.
Both solutions dont't work for the application-JVM which was invoked by WebStart.

Java Webstart application problem with TLS certificate revocation checks (Java 1.7.0_76)

We have a problem with our Java Web Start Application regarding the TLS certificate revocation check:
The application is running on a server within a wide area network which is separated from the internet.
The application users have access to the WAN, and also access to the internet over some corporate proxy/firewall.
The user has to enter, for example "https://my-site.de/myapp/ma.jnlp" within a webbrowser or could also call "javaws https://my-site.de/myapp/ma.jnlp" to start the application client.
The webserver has a certificate from a trusted certificate authority. This certificate seems to be ok, the browser is even configured to perform OCSP status check.
The application files are signed with a certificate from another trusted certificate authority. This certificate seems also to be ok. Regarding this certificate there
are no problems with certificate revocation checks.
The problem is, while starting the application client there is a message box which tell us something like "the connection to this website ist not trustworthy",
"Website: https://my-site.de:80", and something about an invalid certificate, meaning the webserver certificate.
Obviously the jvm runtime, which is executed on the users workstation, tries to perform a revocation check for the webservers certificate, but this fails because
it cannot fetch the certificate under https://my-site.de:80.
The application will execute without further problems after that message but the users are very concerned about the "invalid" certificate, so here are my questions:
- Why is the application trying to get the webserver certificate over Port 80. Our application developers told me, there is no corresponding statement. Calling this address
has to fail while "https://my-site.de:443" or "https://my-site.de" would not have a problem.
- Is there a way to make the application go on without performing a tls revocation check? I mean, by adjusting the application sourcecode and not by configuring the users Java Control Panel.
While disabling the TLS Certificate Revocation check in the Java Control Panel, the Webstart Application executes without a warning message, but this is not a workable solution for
our users.
It would be great if someone can help me with a hint so i can send our developers into the right direction;-)

Add the JSF Jars to the WEB-INF/lib directory of the application. If still getting error add to the CLASSPATH variable in the startWebLogic script in the domain/bin directory.

Unable to debug any application after upgrading to Reef Shark and Update 6

Since I upgraded to Reef Shark and consequently also installed the update 6 I can't access the deployment server.
None of the applications show up in the broswer, nor does the admin-console for the server.

From JDK 1.4 the com.sun.security.auth.PolicyFile class has been deprecated and replaced by sun.security.provider.PolicyFile. Could this be the reason?

Error While Debugging the Application

Hello,
I am developing applications using WebDynpro for JAVA.
I am using NWDI 7.0.
I am getting an error while debugging the application. When I click on debug mode in debug perspective, I am getting error message as :
"Failed to connect to remote VM. Connection refused"
Could any one of you help in resolving this error?

We can not duplicate this problem in our development environment and test environment. So, we ask them to uninstall application, .NET Framework 1.1 and resinstall .NET Framework 1.1 and application. They still got same error. We further ask them to install .NET Framework SDK 1.1. They got some detail error message.

Looks like the problem is casued by missing component. But we don't know which component missing and how to find it. Is there anybody can give us some clue what we need to check next and what tool we can use to detect missing component.

I tried Dependency Walker in our development environment, looks like it's useless for .NE T Window Form application, the result I got is like bellow,

Dont want to download webstart application onto desktop

Hi all,
I dont want my webstart application to be downloaded on desktop or you can say i dont want shortcut of this application on my machine.
I want to restrict opening of this application from shortcut. I want it can only be opened using explorer.

Debugging Linux applications on Microblaze

Hello,
could someone please answer some questions who is debugging Linux applications on Microblaze.
I have to prepare an environment to debug applications running on Microblaze Linux 2.6.38. Everywhere, I can find hints how to do it with ARM on Zynq, but this is only a Spartan-6. I might change the Linuxversion but not the hardware.
First, I compiled the kernel 2.6.38 (PLB, big endian) with initramfs_minimal.cpio.gz, then I compiled it with initramfs_complete.cpio.gz. In both cases, the Linux Kernel is running on Microblaze and I can access the filesystem with a serial link and with LAN using telnet.
To debug applications, I tried to run with Windows 7 (64-bit) the Xilinx SDK (Eclipse) included in ISE/XPS 14.7. For Linux applications running on Microblaze, I tried to use the GDB-Debugger in SDK. I think I have to start a GDBserver first and then start SDK to connect to it.
I could not find the GDBserver in the above mentioned filesystems. So, I downloaded the GDB sources for GDB 7.7 and did two configurations. One for the host (first VirtualBox with Ubuntu-Linux-32bit, later Windows 7) and one for the target (microblaze running on spartan-6).
to create the GDBclient for the PC:
configure --prefix=/opt/gdb/mb-linux/cross --target=microblaze-unknown-linux-gnu
The following commands 'make' and 'make install' are running without errors.
to create GDBserver for the FPGA:
configure --prefix=/opt/gdb/mb-linux/native --host=microblaze-unknown-linux-gnu
There is an error with the following command 'make'.
error: Gdb does not support native target microblaze-unknown-linux-gnu

Do I need to create GDBserver ?
What is wrong with my settings to create GDBserver ?
Is there a totally different way to debug ?

I already knew those two links but I took a close look at them again.
The second link helps to run a Linux kernel on Microblaze. It ends when it's getting interresting for me. It does not describe anything about developing a Linux application.
The first link is using Zynq. Most of the steps can be done with Microblaze as well. When I start debugging, it changes to the debug perspektive and after some seconds I see the message

I tried the following options but nothing helped:
Kernel with initramfs_minimal.cpio.gz and with initramfs_complete.cpio.gz.
Changed the access rights of /tmp (I used it for 'Remote File Path')
In the video for Zynq, it is said:
by default, there is a TCF agent running
I guess, the TCF agent can be seen on Zynq if you list all processes running.
What is the name of the TCF agent?
I guess this one is missing on my Microblaze.
Any other suggestions?

How to launch a Java WebStart application with older JREs when Java 7u25 is on the client?

How can I launch older versions of my Java WebStart application, that are built and run with Java 7u21 or earlier, even if Java 7u25 is installed locally on the client? Application launch and behaviour must be reliable and consistent.
Background:
As of 7u25 (and later), Java Webstart applications launch with a different class loader than pre-7u25.
My Java Webstart application has supported versions that were built with older versions of the JDK (e.g. Java 5, 6, 7u21 or earlier). These applications run with their required JRE version, enforced through JNLP. Once Java 7u25 is installed locally, these older applications fail to launch, due to classloader differences.
The question is: what is required to run older Java WebStart applications even if 7u25 (or later) Java Webstart is installed locally on the client?

I confirm your findings when using shortcuts to try specific versions of JavaWS with 7u25 or later installed:
JRE 5u14 launched and the classloader was as pre 7u25
JRE 6u43 would not launch
JRE 7u21 launched but the classloader was not as pre 7u25
You can launch the shortcut with the JavaWS -verbose option to display a messagebox with valuable information.
I am keeping a close watch on this thread.

Use naming datasource in WebStart application

I created a simple WebStart application with ADF Swing components.(JDeveloper version is 11.1.1.3)
I deployed this application on Weblogic server (version is 10.3.3).
But my application works fine, when I use JDBC connection in configuration of my application module.
When I change type to JDBC DataSource, I get an error: (oracle.jbo.DMLException) JBO-27200: Failure JNDI. Can't execute search of datasource in context hrGlobal
Where, "hrGlobal" is name of DataSource which is situated on WLS. (This DataSource I created using WLS Console).
Maybe, there is any help or source code or documentation about this problem, but i could not find such information.
So, if anyone had met with this problem and can share solution with me, it would be great.

Hi. Thank you for link. But my problem that this naming DataSource works in ADF Faces application and gives an error in ADF Swing WebStart application. Names in this 2 applications(ADF Faces and ADF Swing) match and i don't use property jbo.server.internal_connection.

Debugging EP application project

Hi Experts,
I am trying to debug EP application project. In order to do this I have done following steps:
1) Started config tool of J2EE engine.
2) Switch to current instance and go to debug tab
3) Set "Enable debug mode" checked
4) Set valid debug port.
5) Saved the settings.
I am however not able to carry out debugging. Can you pls help me out.

I have java files(MIDlet) for MIDP applications. I am unable to compile it in JBuilder7.0. Using J2ME -> KToolbar i am able to build the application/project, But i am unable to debug it. Can anybody tell me how can i successfully create/build/debug MIDP applications?

then:
1) install Wireless Toolkit if you dont have it already
2) start JBuilder
3) Tools menu -> Configure JDKs
4) click "New"
5) set the path to your WTK path (for example c:\wtk20)
6) click ok
7) select it as JDK for your project (or as default) using "Project properties" on the project menu
for JBuilder Personal Edition, there's a trick to make it work - you can replace the included J2SE JDK with MIDP 2.0 and get it working (personal edition doesn't normally have the ability to add new JDKs)
When you're going to run an application in your project, you'll get the Run window coming up. Do like this
1) click "New"
2) pick Type: MIDlet
3) browse to your main class (extends MIDlet)
4) optional: pick Build target: <None> if you don't want to run make on the project before each run
5) click "ok"
6) now you can run your midlet using the green play button

I need to sign a java webstart application but Im no coder

I have a java webstart application that was writen for me by a coder that I can no longer contact. I was given all the souce code for the application including an unsigned jar file. What I would like to know is how do I go about getting the application signed by a trusted authority so that the people who use the app for the first time dont get the big ugly warnings. I have no java programing experience at all so any help will be greatly appreciated.
