Decrease no of chars in CT04?

Hi experts,
I have added the no. of chars from 4 to 5.. in my characteristics (CT04) and now i want to decrease it back to original, but there is a message saying :
"Characteristic length can only be increased"
how to solve this? can i just delete and create it back? what implications will it give? I know that CU03 is using this characteristic to link with VK13..
In my additional data tab, my customized field reference is a NUMC4 from the table of SDCOM. This is why i need to change it back.. however, when i create sale order manually, no errors were generated.

If you have created any transactions using this characteristic, or maintained some dependencies at the characteristic level, or char assignment to class etc..... all these can depend on this characteristic.
So if you want to create a new char, or delete this char and create again with the same name, you need to delete all the dependent entries(assignment of dependencies to char, assignment of char to class etc) and then you can create a new char with the same name and move forward.
If you delete this characteristic, then you can create a new characteristic with the same name.

we know for specific chars through CT04 and going to VALUES sub-tab then selecting perticular chars value and clicking on the documentation for value.

Routing for configurable material

Hello PP gurs,
I want to create Routing for Configurable Material in SAP PP-PI or PP industries. How the object dependency is defined applied ?
This requirement is for Make TO Order scenario for Configurable Material.
At present I am working with resources only.
I want to create in such away So that while creating Production order system should ask select BOM & routing.
How can I define the Super BOM & Super Routing in Order?
Is it possible to calculate cost for this kind of requirement?

Let us say you have to manufactur CAR's(matyerial no in SAP is CAR). The coonfiguration options are - Paint, and tyre
Create a char inn CT04 as piant and tyre with value as below(data type = char)
Paint - white, red, blue and black
Tyre - Redial, Normal
Create materials like White-paint, Red-paint, Blue-paint, black-paint, Tyre-redial, tyre-Normal, Engine
Create a class in CL01 called CAR-CLASS , clas type 300 and assign the above Char to this class
Assign this class to Material CAR.
Create BOm with following items
Engine
White-paint
RED paint
Blue-paint,
black-paint,
Tyre-redial,
tyre-Normal,
Create a object dependency in CU40 type - selcetion condition to selcet red-paint material when in Sales order select paint red. and like this all others.
Selection condition for red paint is as below
Paint = 'red'
Like this for all others
Paint = 'white'
Paint = 'black'
Paint = 'blue'
Tyre = 'Normal'
Tyre = 'Redial'
Assign this object dependency to BOm items
Engine
White-paint -
>Paint = 'white'
RED paint -
>Paint = 'red'
Blue-paint, -
>Paint = 'blue'
black-paint, -
>Paint = 'black'
Tyre-redial, -
>Tyre = 'Redial'
tyre-Normal---->Tyre = 'Normal'
Now create a configuration profile
When you create a Sales order, system will pronmpt to enter the vlaues for piant and tyre
if you have selceted piant as red and tyre as normal, then the BOm will look like as below
Engine
RED paint
tyre-Normal
This is the configured BOM...what you have cretaed is supre BOM.

MRP + Batch determination/restriction complex sceanario

I have a very complex issue with MRP and Batch Determination. Here is my
situation. Please help me find a solution.
I have materials which are batch managed and each material can have numerous batches based on the quality (80%, 70%, 90%). Materials can have up to 100-150 batches. Some batches can be used only by some customers (Plants, Customers) in different countries because of legal issues. When
we run an MRP, MRP doesn't care which batch it is, it just creates planned orders/purchase reqs based on the quantity, material and plant. Just to give you an example, Lets say we have material A which as 2 batches Batch 1 and Batch 2. Lets say we have customer x and Customer y. Customer X can use only Batch 1 for the material not batch 2 because of legal issues and standards. Customer y can use Batch 1 and also batch 2. When we run an MRP, MRP is suggesting to send batch 2 to customer x which is not right. Storage location creation is out of question coz of business requirement in those countries.
Is there any user exit or enhancements that i can look into, or can I accomplish this through custom z tables/tcodes ? Is there any other way I can handle this through master data change ?
Please help me out on this and let me know what other possible ways we can handle this issue.

I think your requirement can be mapped using standard Batch determination set up. Pl try with...
1) Create 2 more Char in CT04 like Plant and Customer and assign to the batch Class already exists (023). The idea is to give plant and customer data values to each batch along with other batch char values
2) In the SPRO > Log- gen > Batch mgt > Batch determination and Batch chk
   a) Create new condition table with Customer/Plant/Material/Mvt type
   b) Create Access table
   c) Create Strategy type
   d) Create Search Procedure and assign Stg type
   e) Assign the Search procedure to mvt type 261
3) Create Batch search strategy in MCB1 for the Strategy type created earlier for the combination
    Customer/plant/mvt type/material combination and maintain sorting rule and Batch search criteria and maintain classification data
Example of Batches say
Batch-123            Batch-231_
Density- 1                   Density- 1.2
Viscosity - 1.8             Viscosity - 1.8
Plant - 1000                 Plant - 1100
Customer - A               Customer - A
4) Now while running MRP system will pick up the Batches corresponding to that plant or customer. Hope this will solve u r problem. Pl revert back for more info

Date format in Master inspection characteristics

Hi All
I have a requirement where my user wants to enter the date format in the master inspection characteristic. For example we want to add date of manufacture and the date of expiree as a inspection characteristics and during the results recording they want to enter this characteristics in a date format.
MY question is can we have a master inspection characteristic with a date format, if so what all the settings are required.

Direct characteristic you can't use in inspection plan. If you want to use characteristic in IP then create chara. (CT04), then assign this charac. as class chanr.(QS21) in MIC. Now you can use this MIC in inspection plan.

1) Create Char in CT04 with assignment of Control indicators and Char values
2) Create Class in CL02 with type 300 and assign the Char to it
3) Assign this class to Material in Classification view in MM02
4) Create Configuration Profile in CU41 and Main Profiles for PP & SD relevancy
5) Assign Constraints and Procedures to Each Profile as per the rules required by design or Business
6) Create a Configurable Material (Mat type - KMAT) with Classification,Sales,MRP,Accounting views and Planning stg 25
7) Create A Super BOM(for K-mat) and assign all the comp with Proper Selection & Pre conditions
8)Create Super Routing(For K-mat) and Assign all operations with Proper Selection
Material Variant(MV) Creation Steps(Material variants are the stockable items in VC Scenario)
1) Create a MV with Material type FERT and Stg 10 or 40 (Classification view not essential)
2) Assign the K-mat material to this MV in Basic data - 2 view in Cross Plant CM field and click on Configure variant tab to select the fixed char value combination for this MV. Do the same steps in MRP-III view
By this way u can make the stock of configure items

Problems with classification datasource

Dear experts,
I need to assign a new char to a classification datasource. I have created de char in CT04 transaction, and then I have assigned this new char to the class in CL02 transaction.
At CTBW transaction I have assigned the new char, and then I push DataSource button to generate de datasource, but then a error messagge appears that indicate a char does not exist, but not the new char other. If I a review the class all chars are ok.
I have tried to save without the char of the error messagge and then the error indicate other char.
what can i do?

Batch determination by UD.

Dear Guru's,
I want to define my scenario like this.
After goods receipt against purchase order,goods will move in quality stock.
At the time of result recording I will check all characteristics.
I have created this as a master insp. char and assign in qual.plan.
e.i. MIC are Thickness, width, grade, etc.
Now I have created one batch class for that i have created same char. by CT04 and assign it in class.
Now my requirment :
when i record the characteristics at the time of result rec.
system should create a new batch which having this same char. with same value
Can system take automaticaly the same batch valuation at the time of goods receipt.
Please suggest me.

I have create batch but i am not updating the values at the time of MIGO .
just i have created batch and assign it at the time of MIGO.
After that I am doing result recording and UD. I want that result should be automaticaly update in the batch for that char..
Is it possible?

What u said is correct but a small correction,
CL02 is obsolete in ECC and CL04 is in place of that
and we have to methods to create Class one is goto CL04 and give the characteristic name and double click on the given char name it takes u to CT04.
or create char through CT04 and give the char in CL04,
we have class type while creating class(CL04)
Batch Class, Material Class ,Variant Class Etc as per our requirement we need to select the class type

I'm now using a javabean in my jsp page to parse xml;when my xml file's size is
about 10k,it just work fine;when my xml file's size became 50k,it throws the followng
Exception:
Failed to open xml document,Failed to retrieve Public id or system id from the
document. Decrease the number of char between the beginning of the document and
its root element. But when I run this javabean in JBuild ,it works fine no matter
how big the xml file becomes;
Why? the error message is in the attachment.

The prologue must be included at the top of the document, followed by the root
          element.

Ref Char fpr item descrption in BOM

Hi All
I want to change the item description in BOM through variant configuration (reference character ).
The scenario is in sales order i will be entering the size (lenght and width) this two char should reflect or change the item descrption of the item in BOM.(which will b selected through sel.condition).
Can anybody guide how to configure for the above req.

    b. Gen. Item Category Group - 0002
    c. Item Category Group - 0002
    d. You won't have Accounting -1 and Accounting -2 View.
2. Include Access Sequence - 57 Variants (Table 57)
3. Include Condition Type VA00 - Variants in pricing procedure
a. Maintain Charchteristics - CT04 (A property that describes and differentiates objects Ex. Length, Color, weight..etc)

Status : Released

Create content modell, logical/physical document class, TA CT04/cl02/dc10

Dear experts,
Im about to get to know the SAP DMS. Content Server is already running working as well as the content repositories. I now wanna set up a content modell for testing with knowledge provider.
Im a bit confused about the different ways of doing that. What is actually the difference between creating a CHAR in TA ct04, creating a class in Cl02 with type 017 and the alternative of creating a content model with TA SRMCMCREATE or directly in the document modelling workbench.
Once ive hopefully understood the difference how can i start actually creating / uploading real (physical documents) cause in dont understand what TAs cvn01n/02n/03n are for.
There is a large number of function modules for kpro. Fo example when testing SDOK_LOIOS_CREATE i have to enter an RFC destination. What do i have to type in as RFC destination intending to store in content repositories of content server?
I know thats more than one question at a time but i would be very pleased some of these get answered.

I would like to start providing you information with CT04 question. Here the CHAR value is used for maintaining the type of classification characteristics. The CHAR entry stands for 'Character' type which
means you can add alphabetical and numerical values to this classification characteristic. Transaction CT04 is normally used for creating classification characteristics. In CL02 you can create a class for
classification and then add the characteristics to it. In the standard class type 017 is used for classifying document info records.
Transaction CV01N/CV02N/CV03N are used in standard for document managment functionalities. Here you can create/edit/display your document info records. These document info records are like a frame for your original files which could be added to an info record and then checked into your Content Server.
During this check in function the KPRO function modules are used too.

How to change (decrease) primary key column length?

Hi all,
I have plenty of data in the table and I need to decrease the primary key column from CHAR(17) to CHAR(13).
I try to use:
ALTER TABLE xx MODIFY (prmy_key (13));
but Oracle give:
ERROR at line 1:
ORA-01441: column to be modified must be empty to decrease column length
Can anyone give me advice on what is the best way to decrease column length? Thanks in advance for your help.

To add to the above, I have done a simple test in the lines that I was suggesting the solution for this problem,

TRUNCATE table table_name reuse storage;
I think, this would accoplish what has been asked.

I m wrking on AFS Module , i m using CT04 for creating character for clr or size of style . When v create ther is a tab of VALUES . In this tab there is option for char .value n desc . The requirement is to stop special char entry in char. value column .

characteritic description is stored in ATWRT_SAVE.
In include LCTMVF6I , it is passed as below.
WERTEBEREICH-ATWRT = ATWRT_SAVE.
and in include LCTMVF7D, it is passed as ATWRT_SAVE = WERTEBEREICH-ATWRT.
Now put the breakpoint in these 2 includes and see which one is triggered 1st etc and then you may have to write the code of checking special charaterrs in variable ATWRT_SAVE in IMPLICIT ENHANCEMENT.

Create characteristics t code CT04

In t code CTO4 when I m creating characteristics , under value assignment there are two radio selection
1 Single-value
2 Multiple value
what is the significance of it. ??? which one I need to select , so that I can use this characteristics to my measuring point or counter.
One more field is there template when I select my data type and char predefine template is automatically selected. & this template is applied to my respective measuring pt and doc.
and I m facing problem to enter reading in measurement doc.
e.g
I have a characteristics with unit NO , data type numeric and no of char 10
but in measurement doc I m able to enter only 4 digit value . to enter further digit I has to delete template.
why it is so ???

Hi,
In CT04 the Single & Multiple values means.
For Example in characeteristics if you want to maintain only one reading for characteristics then select the Single value,If you want more than one value for the Characteristics then select Multiple values.
For Example say your characteristics is Speed.you are assign this characteristics to class Motor.
When you attach this class to Equipment say if only one value exist for Speed characteristics for all equipment then specify single value.or if more than one value then specify as Multiple alue.
for Motor A the Value of Speed characteristics is 1500 Rpm
for Motor B the Value of Speed characteristics is 1500 Rpm
for Motor C the Value of Speed characteristics is 1500 Rpm
In this case assign as Single value.
If for Motor A the Value of Speed characteristics is 1500 Rpm
for Motor B the Value of Speed characteristics is 1200 Rpm
for Motor C the Value of Speed characteristics is 1100 Rpm
In this case specify as Multiple value & Maintain in characteristic when you cretae the value in Equipment the 3 option will show to you.from that you can select.
For the 4 digit entry & template.
Check your User profile what template it has given.check with Basis Consultant & ask him to assign the proper user profile to user id.
In menu bar go to System -- User profile-- Own data & check the Default values tab.Check for the template there.
