DEFAULT CATALOG IN ORGANIZER LOCATION

I have been using the default catalog in Photoshop Elements 5.0.2 organizer, and it is getting large. I decided to build a new catalog. It did not work out so I want to return to the default catalog. The program does not indicate that selection when I use the open command in the organizer. Can some one tell me where to find "My Catalog.psa" under Windows Vista.

C:\ProgramData\Adobe\Photoshop Elements\Catalogs
By the way, it is not recommended to split a catalog just because it is getting large. (How large was yours anyway?) Better you should compact it regularly by File->Catalog->Recover to keep your catalog "healthy".

  • Can I over-ride the default setting in Organizer to allow sorting photos by filename ?

    I am converting slides from the 1970's and 80's to digital files and using PSE 8 to Organize them but it is important to me that they stay in the order of the file name I give them and NOT "Date: newest first or last" because it would seem that PSE, in the absence of metafile information, uses the date and time I uploaded the file to the Organizer as the "Date:".  ACDSee has a much more sensible arrangement in giving me full control of how my photos are sorted.  I am being driven to using ACDSee as the organizer and PSE as the photo editor, a not very convenient arrangement.  So my question is, "Can I over-ride the default setting in Organizer to allow sorting photos by filename ?"

    The type of file system that you're trying to set up, is actually done better by creating you own file heirarchy in Windows, and then viewing by import batch.  For example; you might create a top level folder "My Slide Scans", then perhaps, "My son John". So, the scans of john all go in the same folder, you import the folder in one batch, and you're where you want to be.
    That said, PSE will fight you at every turn to do this, since with the scanner hooked up with PSE, PSE is going to want to store your photos in "scanned photos" and import them as you scan them.
    I woud suggest this.  After the scan and import, use PSE to move the photos to their final destination folder, say " Hawaii 1994", and create a tag of the same name". Then when you're done scanning photos of this event, use the tag to view all the scans at once. Then, delete all the photos from the organizer. (Yeah, sounds radical I know). Take heart! All you've gotta do then is to reimport the whole folder. All the same name photos will be in one import batch. And with all the photos of any given topic in one folder, you'll be able to also use Windows Explorer in any number of modes to view the photos outside PSE.
    Keep in mind you can rename batchs of photos by selecting them, or by import batch or even tag, then "Ctrl. > Shift > N" will bring up the name change dialog box.
    This technique is quite contensious, but, it makes a whole lot more sense than storing all your photos in the "My Photos" folder on the "C:/" drive where any viral or malware hiccup might cause the necessity of a reformat, which could cause the loss of years of work.
    If a name search is a priority, that would be "Ctrl ."Shift" > "K" then type in whatever your heart desires.
    Caution: Before attempting a delete/ reimport manuver, Alway, always, write the tag and file info to the photo. "File" >"Write Tag and Properties Info to File".
    I always am quite adamantine about suggesting that you do NOT use the same physical HDD that contains Windows to store your photos, that's just asking for trouble. HDDs are quite cheap nowadays, and they're worth every penny in piece of mind. Plus to use a storage ("Volume") drive, you have to create your own file heirarchy anyway, so that leads right back to the beginning of this discussion.

  • Can't import new photos to default catalog in LR3,5

    Hi!
    I'm running LR3,5 on OSx10.5.8 and recently I've lost the ability to import new photos (from hdd). My default catalog (so far I've been using only one) contains appx.33k photos and I can't import new shots. Yesterday I was shooting tethered camera and everything went fine. Today I wanted to import new files (from hdd) and noticed that "import button" is completly inactive. Dead. I set up a new catalog and managed to process todays photos but when I'm switching to previous catalog the "import" button is still dead.
    Thoughts? Ideas? Please help!
    Thank you in advance!

    Just checked the histogram issue-seems OK:
    I'm a bit ashamed to ask but where do I find preferences file?
    Thanks in advance,

  • Changing default save/open to location from any application.

    I can't seem to find the location where i can set my files to save to opened location rather then always defaulting to my documents folder. This will apply to files being opened as well. For example when I work in an application and need to import 2o items i do not want to have to start from my documents every time it should default to the last location. If anyone can please help I am having a brain freeze on this one. thanks

    Please, for the love of all things, will someone please tell Apple to add this feature, I am so incredibly tired of having to go through seven clicks to get back to the same folder that I just saved to.

  • Adding entries of default-catalog.xml into my custom resource catalog

    Hi,
    How can I add the contents of the default-catalog.xml into my own resource catalog?
    Use Case:
    I am creating my own resource catalog and under that catalog, I wanted to add two folders. One contains my custom links and the other folder should contain all of the
    entries in the default-catalog.xml. I tried dragging my default-catalog.xml into my custom resource catalog but it is appearing as a catalog reference and not as foldrs.
    How to do this?
    Thanks
    Webcenter 11.1.1.6

    Hi.
    Try to add manually in "Source" tab and not with "design drag & drop".
    You only have to copy <contents> information from default-catalog to your <contents/> folder information.
    In this link i share you have a custom resource catalog with two folders: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/46128268/OTN-Samples/catalog1.xml
    PD: It's a PS4 resource catalog archive, it's only for your help.

    Profile profile = (Profile) atg.servlet.ServletUtil.getCurrentUserProfile();
            Object userCatalog = profile.getPropertyValue(CATALOG_PROPERTY_NAME);
            if ((userCatalog == null)) {

  • Move Default Catalog from Preferences to Catalog Settings

    At present the Default Catalog setting is in Preferences > General Tab.
    I suggest to move it into <Catalog Settings>.
    Reasons:
    1) It's not logical to have it in Preferences while there is a special dialog for Catalog Settings;
    2) Novice users will get confused if some of the Catalog settings are in Preferences;
    3) It's cumbersome to have to check in two different dialogs to check all your Catalog Settings;

    +1 vote, although I was thinking about sucking the catalog preferences in with the rest, instead of the other way around. However ya look at it - combining them into one UI would be a nice touch, IMO.
    I don't know what technical hurdles there would be (and its kindof a small thing in my eyes) - but certainly its doable...
    PS - I was talking just about the UI, not the storage, not sure about OP.

  • Can I move the Lightroom Catalog from one location to another?

    Lightroom by default, places the Lightroom Catalog in the Pictures folder on my PC. My image library though, is located on an external hard drive. I've read that it is better to have the Catalog at the same location to avoid disconnected images, which sounds reasonable. Is it feasable to move the Catalog over to the same drive as my image library, or will that cause a problem? In other words would I need to start over again and create a new Catalog on the external drive? I know this sounds like a dumb question, but I've learnt to my cost that the obvious solution isn't necessary the correct one.

    For better performance it is preferable to have the catalog located on an internal hard drive. By default the catalog and the preview files have to be located in the same folder since there is continual read/write taking place while working in Lightroom. Lightroom does not make any changes to the original files so its fine for them to be located on another hard drive internal or external. Lightroom loves lots of hard disk space to operate so if your catalog is on an internal drive make sure it not starved for disk space.
    However its ok for your catalog/previews files to reside on an external HDD with your original photo files.
    Your photo files can reside on a HDD conected to a network but your catalog and preview files cannot be located on a network.
    e.g I have my catalog / previews on the main HDD with my operating system with over 50% free disk space. My Photo files are on a secondary internal HDD with over 75% free disk space. I back up to external HDD.

  • Where are the photos in the organizer located?

    When I put photos in the organizer, does the organizer make copies of the originals? Where are they located on the hard drive?

    coolmanoh wrote:

    You don't put any photo in the organizer : the location on the drive of the media files and their properties are written in the catalog database together with a small thumbnail. The photos stay where you have put them.
    If you are 'getting photos or videos' from camera or card reader, you are using an accessory module (the downloader) to upload from your camera card to your computer before the photos are registered in the organizer catalog. You can check the location where the files are written in your computer in the Edit / preference menu of the organizer. You can specify where you want the photos to be stored on your computer.
    After the photos are downloaded from your card, the organizer automatically reads the location and properties of those files and writes that info in the database.
    If you are 'getting photos from files or folders', there is no copy, the updating of the database is made from the already present files on your computer.
    It's up to you to chose if you want to use the downloader or simply use other ways to get the photos from your card to your computer.

  • Default catalog folder in Windows 7

    I upgraded from Windows XP Professional to 32-bit Windows 7 Home Premium during the holidays.  I used the easy transfer utility provided by Microsoft.  It saved my catalog just fine.  But My Documents isn't there anymore; it's just called Documents.  Is there a specific folder where I should put my catalog so that Lightroom won't create a new catalog?  Or, can I just put the catalog anywhere I want and double-click on it from that location?  I understand that I can put the catalog file wherever I want to.  But I don't want the new Lightroom installation to create another new catalog.  Just looking for suggestions.

    Jim,
    The default location of the catalog on Win7 would be "C:\Users\[your username]\Pictures\Lightroom\Lightroom 3 Catalog.lrcat". But you can also put your catalog (the *.lrcat file together with the Previews.lrdata folder) anywhere and just double-click it to open LR. If you have set your preferences accordingly, LR will open the last used catalog upon start from then on.

  • Saving catalog to another location

    Since I had a lot of repair work to do after moving files incorrectly, I want to have clarity on this before making any change:  I want to keep my photos on the EHD, where they and the catalog currently reside.  I want to move the catalog to the internal hard drive and keep the photos on the EHD.  What is the best way to do this?

    Copy the folder containing your catalog and the associated Previews.lrdata folder structure to the internal drive. I would just copy the folder from the external hard drive to your internal drive. Then start Lightroom and open the catalog in its new location. All your links etc in your catalog to your photos will be preserved.
    (I would do the copy  using operating system, and I would copy rather than move; if anything does not appear to work, then at least you can always continue to use your catalog on the external drive. If all goes well, then after a day or two, I would remove the catalog and associated previews folder from your external drive.)

  • PSE 8 catalog in custom location not shown in catalog list

    I am trying to help a client recover from a computer problem. She was having several types of problems with her PC a couple of months ago. PSE 8 seemed to be working ok at the time, and my memory tells me I Reconnected all missing files (if there were any), Repaired and Optimized, as is my usual practice. I then did a full backup to an external drive. She then had her son fix her computer in some way shape or form. He lives out of state. I got a call and she said she was ready for me to get her PSE 8 back up and running.
    When I got there, we discovered she did not have the PSE 8 CDs. She he bought it online from Adobe but never copied it to a CD etc. We decided she would buy PSE 10 and download it. I had never downloaded any from the Adobe Store and was totally shocked to discover it was a three hour download. Other equally large files I have downloaded from Adobe would have taken 20-30 min. While it was downloading I even went hoe and started the download on my internet connection. It would have taken an equal amount of time. Sorry, I strayed.
    After we installed PSE 10, I did a Restore from the PSE 8 backup I made a couple of months ago. I have done this many times over the years with very good results. We got a message saying the catalog was successfully restored. But when I went to convert it to PSE 10, an error appeared saying the conversion failed and we shoulf try restoring it on to PSE 8 and try abother Backup.
    That's the background. I do still have PSE 8 on a PC at home. I restored the Catalog to a custonm location (a second internal drive). All of the 5300 pictures or visible, tags appear to be in order etc.
    But before trying a Back-up I wanted to Repair and Opimize the Catalog (named my Catalog). But with the catalog visible, the area where I expected to see [Current] is blank, and the Repair etc buttons are grayed out. I'm stumped. The only think I can think to do is to back another backup and try to restore that one on her PSE 10 after I dry run it at home.
    I'f attached a screen shot showing the dialog box in quesation. I now see where it is quite small, you should be able to see the areas of the screen I'm referring to.
    I'm stumped. Any suggestions will be very much appreciated.
    TIA

    Brett,
    Thanks for the quick reply. It seemed like a simple solution, but it did not work. Going up one level did not change anything. The area is still blank and the choices are still grayed out.
    Can you think of anything else?
