Defective earbuds and Apple Product Service

I bought an iPod about 10 days ago and there is already crackling in the right earbud. Has this happened to anyone so quickly? I admit-some of the music gets cranked, but not for an extended amount of time & I don't use the Bass Booster from EQ when I do.
The real problem I guess is that I don't have a credit card and the website requires one or it won't process the repair order. Anyone have any luck getting Apple to replace defective earbuds without having a CC?
Dell   Windows XP   30G U2 Special Edition iPod

Yep. I get this message:
Important: You must return your defective part to
Apple. When you receive your replacement part,
please check your box or envelope for return shipping
instructions. If you do not return the defective part,
we will charge a non-return penalty to your credit card.
I agree to pay USD 19.00 if I do not return my defective part to Apple within 10 business days

  • Defective Batteries and Apple Customer Service

I just spoke with Apple Customer Service today about the battery in My MBP 2.16CD, which is, according to them, defective. However, since it just recently became unable to hold a charge, and is 1 month out of warranty, they will not replace it. This is despite the fact that it only has 99 cycles on it, and will only hold a 1800mAh charge!
I am very dissapointed that they would admit that the product is defective, but not offer any recompense. I know its out of warranty (by 1 month, it was a replacement battery) but it seems dodgy that they would refuse any sort of service. Has anyone had similar experiences? Is there any consumer legislation that can be brought to their attention?

    Hi,
I have the same experience with a dodgy Customer Service. At a service point in my city they told me that they would repair the battery for free, but since i bought it at apple directly i should first asks permission via Customer Service. And after a 30 minute wait on a mobile phone they told me; out of warranty even though 70 loading cycles is not normal for a mac-book-pro battery. I send them a letter, but no response. They like to tell you that since its a battery, you can never claim more than the 1 year warranty; which i think is nonsense, since it is an advanced power device with its own set of chips en led indicators that happens to hold a battery. Anyway; very frustrating indeed to communicate with the boys and girls from Customer Service, and no positive result. It was my first experience with them [and i'm using apple since 1990!] and so far so bad.

If you got the Unlocked message it means it was successfully unlocked by AT&T.  Apple will not relock or block it.  They have no objections to it being used on T-Mobile.  It is still under warrantee.  Take to an Apple store.  They can test it with a SIM from AT&T.  If that doesn't work have them replace the phone.  Have them verify that the new phone is unlocked.  If it does work with the AT&T card then it is a T_Mobile problem.

  • Cisco Linksys Routers and Apple Products?

I have to seriously ask if there is simply an incompatibility between Cisco Linksys and Apple products?
I have both the WRT600N and the new E3000.  Both are exhibiting the same behavior with my Apple products.
On the wireless connection, I am unable to get a download rate from the Internet, higher then maybe 1.2 - 1.5Mbps.  Most of the time it is far lower.  I am always using the same site for testing.  www.speedtest.net and I always use the same testing server for Dallas, TX.
My ISP is Clear, and when going to www.speedtest.net while using the wired connection on my MacBook Pro, I get a download speed of between 5.5 and 8.2 Mbps.
The upload speed is not changed whether I am using the wired or wireless connection.  I also notice the severe difference in speed when I use the Wi-Fi on my iPhone.  My 3G connection is faster then the Wi-Fi...
So, is there an advanced config for the wireless that makes it behave better with Apple devices?
I have locked the config so far to 802.11g on the 2.4Ghz transceiver and 802.11n on the 5Ghz receiver.  I have also set it not to broadcast the BSSID for either as I live in an apartment complex and I do not want to advertise my network to everyone else.  I use WPA personal on the 802.11g network and WPA2 Personal on the 802.11n network.
The settings on the advanced wireless screen in the router config for my E3000 are the defaults.
I have tried nearly everything I can think of.  I am now beseeching the help of the community at large in the hopes of gleaning some information that I did not already have.  Also I hate the new Cisco Connect app.
On a side note, I was very disappointed to learn that while the WRT600N supported IPv6, the E3000 does not.  As a result it seems my wired connection on the MacBook Pro is not performing as well as it did on the WRT600N.
If anyone from Cisco see's this, PLEASE re-add support for IPv6 to your routers.  It makes no sense to move backwards now.

Which band you are using to connect the wireless computer...?
Is your other computers are working fine...?
If you are using 5GHz on the router to connect your Mac computer then, make sure the wireless adapter does support  5GHz.
    Try the following settings...
Keep the Network Mode as "Mixed".For 2.4GHz...Set the Radio Band to Wide-40MHz and change the Wide channel to 9 and Standard Channel to 11-2.462GHz..For 5GHz...Set the Radio Band to Wide-40MHz and change the Wide channel to159 and Standard Channel to 161-5.805GHz.Click on Advanced Wireless Settings...Change the Beacon Interval to 75,Change the Fragmentation Threshold to 2304,Change the RTS Threshold to 2304 and Click on Save Settings...
Now,power cycle the router and check.

  • MacBook and Apple customer service

So to all the users with issues including, but not limited to, whining, mooing, discoloration, and the various other hiccups:
Have the problems occured after the initial 14 days return period?
And if so, have you had any luck having Apple either service your device, exchanging it, or taking it back and refunding you?
Curious as I'm not exactly in love with this silly MacBook. As far as I'm concerned, it's a good idea, but with poor execution. Eye candy. And it would have been nice had it been launched with the free ipod Nano offer instead of rewarding those who waited with both a free iPod and a better functioning machine. I feel jipped! Or is it spelled "gipped"? At any rate, I'm not ranting, I want to hear if Apple has made good with anyone.

I can honestly say that Apple offered my money back without a restocking fee, and after some discussion I was treated to "I don't want to sell anyone a defective machine, let's open one up and see if there is a problem before I sell it to you." I could not be happier with the eventual resolution I received. Bridging the online and retail sales issues is a tough job and I feel it was managed to the best of anybodies ability with regards to the situation I was in.
I don't believe I would return a machine for the common moo, processor whining, or heat. A serious moo issue maybe. If there is physical damage or the machine doesn't work correctly, then yes I would. As to the discoloration, I don't understand why that would not be returned. I haven't seen anything except one set of pictures of a discolored machine, but if it is as blatant as that; then I would really give it another shot.
To put it in perspective, if you try to keep your consumer standards at the same level when evaluating products then you're going to return a car if the paint flakes off everytime you wash it, but doesn't occur to other ones. On the other hand, if your air conditioner makes a slight whirring noise and virtually every single other vehicle does, then you're more than likely going to have the same result when you exchange it so why bother?
Yes, everything happened in 14 days.
I think what you say, your willingness to try to go the extra distance, and how you say it makes all the difference in the world when interacting with any customer support agency.
    Good Luck,
    -j

  • Windows 8 and Apple product compatibility

    Good Morning,
The other day, I went to purchase a new Windows-based computer at a non-Apple retail store.  I would purchase a Macbook, but budget limitations.  When I asked what Windows computer would be best for basic usage (managing IPOD, managing IPADs, managing music, and basic computing), I was told that Windows 8 is not compatible with Apple products.  The retail personnel said that he had numerous returns of products because their Iproducts were not syncing (in fact he returned his computer).  I have researched the communities and found that there are numerous solutions and reasons for the problem, but the variation in the answers leads me to think that the core issue has not been addressed.
    Question:
    1.  Has the compatibility issues between Windows 8 and Iproducts been corrected?  If not, is there any news of the compatibility being addressed in a future release?
    2.  What is the exact problem and how can it be corrected if I do purchase a new Windows computer?
    Thanks,
    Brian

    Hi urbwebb,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
iTunes is compatible with Windows 8 and you should have no issue syncing any device to a Windows 8 computer. The Windows System Requirements can be found on the following webpage.

  • MacBook Pro 13" Late 2011, 16GB RAM and Apple Premium Service Center

    Hello all,
My dad has a MacBook Pro 13" Late 2011, it came with a 4GB RAM. When he got Parallels and installed Windows 8, 4GB RAM were not enough to even deal with Safari so he had to buy 16GB RAM from Cruical. Today when he went to Apple Premium Service Center here in Qatar (51 East) they refused to install the x2 8GB RAM and only installed one of them. They kept warning my dad that installing the whole 16GB can cause issues with the MacBook Pro HDD and can make it go faulty. I wanted to ask if installing RAMs can pose the HDD life to any danger. Because my dad uses his Mac for work and wouldn't like to lose any of his files against small additional speed.
    Thanks.

its very easy to do, here are step by step instructions with photos

  • IPhone $100 credit?!! and Apple Repair Service Scam!!!

To Steve Jobs, the Apple Board and Customers:
While I am happy that Apple is concerned about their customers, (and I will debade that in a moment), I cannot believe that you (Steve and Apple) went ahead with this move. Are you going to give me a $10 a share credit for the stock I bought at $140 that is now at $130 because of this pricing move and this credit?!! It's the same thing! Are all the iPhone buyers now boo-hooing because they had to buy the iPhone and didn't feel it was worth $599? You do realize that you now have set a precedent for all future pricing cuts at Apple, as everyone that has purchased a system that gets a price cut will slam Apple with email complaining they paid too much, etc. I want a credit for the money I have lost due to the discounting of my stock for this rediculous iPhone price cut. You guys blew it!!
Second problem regards a service problem. My 12" powerbook to a drop off the couch a year ago. Still working fine. Decided to get the bottom aluminum case plate replaced, as it is causing too much pressure on the DC inboard recepticle for the power cord. Took it in and got a $600 cost. Ok, way over-priced, but better than new systm! Sent it out. Less than a week later, I got a call from App,e, saying that the service team that inspected my system needed to also replace the DC inboard (fine) and the Hard Drive. The Hard Drive worked fine at the store before sending it off. I qouted the back of the service agreement stating that any damage of the system in Apple's care is Apple's problem, so replace it, but not at my cost. The Apple rep said that this did not qualify, as the "crashed" hard drive was due to the drop. I explained there was not drive problem until Apple shipped it, so get the cost from the shipper insurance. Apple rep said the cost was mine to bear and they would not proceed with the repairs unless I agreed to replacing the DC inboard and HD at an additional cost of $375 (3 times market cost from local Appple authorized repair facility). I continued to question the HD crash. She stated that the repair facility said it crashed, no longer operational. I said I can get these parts for a much better price, send the unit back as is.
Well, unit came back and is FINE!!!! HD works perfectly!!! Ran a diagnostic (I am a certified Sun Microsystems and HP System and server administrator!!!) on the drive and no sector damage or HW problems from the read/write testing. DC inboard is still functional. Apple sent this to Flextronics International. I say, CHECK YOUR SERVICE PROVIDERS APPLE, AS THEY ARE COMMITTING FRAUD ON THE APPLE CUTOMER BASE AND YOU FOR WARRANTY REPAIRS!!! I am not making this up, I have the documents proving this and my system is working right now as I type this. I hope to hear from someone at Apple to contact me on this issue, as the store and 800-MyApple jst softly skirted the issue with, "I'm sure there is a problem with the hard drive and it was not working at the repair facility. It is just on its last life and just happens to be working now." Are you kidding me?!!! I wonder if the New York Time would be interested in this problem?!!!
I also noticed the service agreement states that all replaced parts will be replaced with either new, reconditioned or USED parts. GREAT!!! They would take my drive out, put it in someone elses "crashed" drive and take their drive and put it in my computer and get a huge markup for nothing but labor!!!
I am glad I no longer own Apple shares, and anyone who does, beware of this and other devaluing business decisions or over-sight lacking of Steve Jobs, the Apple board and company!!
    Sincerely,
    Eric

The messed up thing is that I thought I could use the credit on iTunes over time as I buy music, audiobooks, etc., but noooooo, they won't let you use the credit for either iTunes or for the purchase of an iTunes gift card. Truly an empty promise. I purchased all of the needed iPhone accessories (docks, cases, adaptors) before the credit was announced! Now there is nothing else really relevant to buy from the Apple Store (retail or online) if they aren't going to let you use iTunes. I guess I could return the extra dock I bought and then re-buy it with the credit. Now, where is that receipt and packaging?? The only other things they sell for iPhone that I don't have are the crystal film and another one of those silly little adaptors you have to use for a car cassette device all b/c of the recessed jack on the iPhone. It shouldn't be this way, particularly with Apple.

  • ANOTHER Lenovo Y50 case defect issue and terrible customer service

I don't normally do forums but have been so infuriated by Lenovo customer service I felt obliged to sign up and share my experience.
I bought a Lenovo Y50-70 in November 2014. Within one month I noticed a small plastic part near the hinge was missing (i.e. I noticed the other side was intact and how it should look). I sent this to Lenovo for repair and received a call 5 mins ago to say this won't be repaired under warranty and that I will have to pay for it. This is absolutely outrageous and from the number of posts on this very forum it appears this is a common defect with this particular case. I asked the customer service rep if there was anything he could do and all i received was a very short blunt manuscript response, exhibiting no intention to help. I am not prepared to pay for shoddy design/workmanship and so my only option offered was to receive the laptop back unrepaired.
This is absolutely incredible that a company as big as Lenovo can treat their customers in such a fashion. Unless an administrator on this forum wishes to investigate this matter (as it's currently still with Lenovo repair centre) I certainly won't make the mistake of buying or recommending a Lenovo again.

So Lenovo/Medio have had my laptop for 20 days now. 2 weeks ago I was told they wouldn't repair it under warranty and would return it unrepaired. Still nothing. I called customer service yday who promised to investigate and get in touch. Nothing. I called again today, same response i.e. would investigate. It seems there is a huge communication problem between Lenovo and their Medion repair centre.
I am now looking into a legal resolution as surely under the sale of goods act it is illegal to retain an item for so long despite no repair actually taking place. You would also think Lenovo would have the decency to offer to repair the small damage (which I was quoted £80 for) as compensation for delay. But alas no, what Lenovo know about customer service is less than 0.
The fact a representative hasn't even bothered to respond on here is testimony to their lack of care and respect for customers.
    Yours truly

Intel is recalling i5 and i7 systems that use "Sandy Bridge" technology. Does this affect current Apple Intel-based products?

Yes. Same is true. Apple use X58 chipsets in the Mac Pros. Sandy Bridge for Xeon's have not even had a prelim release and wont be available till Q3-Q4. All your Mac's are fine.

  • Dent, warranty, wobbly, and Apple customer service

Hey Guys! Long story short, my one year warranty with Apple ended on November 22nd. I did not purchase AppleCare. I've noticed that at the last week of the warranty, my computer has started to wobble. I contacted Apple on Nov. 22, and they sent me a box saying that I could still send my MacBook Pro under the warranty since I contacted them the day of.
I sorta dropped My '09 MBP within the first month of receiving it. It slid off my lap while the lid was open, and caught the unibody, but the lid has a small depression by the power button.
I haven't mishandled my computer in any way since as I am a freak when it comes to electronics.
I know that Apple voids your warranty if there is accidental damage to them.
I want to know if when I send my MBP in, will they automatically assume that it was accidental damage for the depression? Or will they actually examine it to make sure that it's not the battery swelling or anything like that?
If they do void my warranty (which isn't a problem since it's already over), will they charge me for examining my computer even if they did nothing to it?
    Thanks!

These two statements totally contradict one another. I think you will be extremely lucky if Apple fixes the damage you cause by dropping it.

  • Lightroom between Windows and Apple products

I have a new windows 8 desktop that I have been using for Lightroom 4 work and now I want to get a laptop and am considering the Apple but wanted to know the following:
-Can I use the same Lightroom on both my desktop and laptop?
-If i get a Apple laptop will I be able to transfer work between the two that I do in Lightroom?
-I i go this route will i have any compatibility issues that will affect performance?

Performance? Nope...but there are some issues relating to certain areas of compatibilities...for example; hard drives. On Mac you can mount and read/write FAT32 formated external drives but if the drives are formated as NTFS you'll only be able to read from them not write to them. That can be an issue is your catalog is on the drive. If you format the drives as Mac OS Extended (Journaled) your Windows machine won't see the drives unless you install a 3rd party driver (pretty easy & cheap).
But once you work out the compatibilities LR will run just fine on both Mac and Windows.

  • Windows Users and Apple Products

Hi. I use both Mac and PC. I like them both. I have two iPhones and for reasons, will be using them with PCs. I think its cool that there is so much Apple technology that works with PCs like the iPhone, Mobile Me, Bonjour, iTunes, etc. In fact, if they ever made iWork and iLife for PC, I'd buy that too.
Question: Does anyone one know of a community, blog or website that focuses on PC/Windows users that like Apple technology? That would be very cool.
    Kindest.

Hmmm. For iPods and iPhones and iTunes, there's specific Windows information and forums at iLounge:
    http://www.ilounge.com/
They go a bit beyond the general troubleshooting advice that gets offered here in the Windows-specific forums at Discussions.

  • What to do about the Pinterest bug and Apple products?

There is a bug within Pinterest which disables ones ability to use the touch copy feature on Apple iPhone, iPad and iTouch.  I have contacted Pinterest so many times they will no longer except my email.  I would like to bring this to the attention of apple because I would think this problem Pinterest is in no hurry to fix  would worry Apple.  I would like to add there is nowhere on the web which disables the ability to touch copy except on Pinterest.

Why do you think this is a bug? Maybe it is a feature purposefully put in place by Pinterest to prevent stealing of people's copyrighted image?
