Define Profit center accouting

Dear experts!
Now, I'm getting some issue about defining profit center.
Default SAP will assign a new profit center to all company codes mapped to a given controlling area.
Really, when I create new profit center, I want to it will not assign to all company code that mapped to given controlling area.
Help me to process the issue!

Thats standard response.. You need to uncheck the coompany codes you dont want in the new PC
You can also use KE56 for mass processing

    Balance sheet items can be transferred periodically or online in realtime
    You can transfer the following balance sheet items to Profit Center Accounting in the standard SAP system at end of period:
        Payables and receivables
       Material stocks
       Assets
       Work in process
    This can be done in period closing activities for AR/AP
    The assignment of payables and receivables to various profit centers is basically derived from the offsetting entry line of the FI document to which they belong. It is not possible to make structural changes to them within Profit Center Accounting. If, for example, you assign a new profit center to a material, or change the derivation rules when creating sales orders, these actions do not affect the assignments of documents which have already been posted.
    The payables and receivables to be divided are calculated in FI at the end of the period. To do so, call up the SAP Easy Access screen and choose Accounting ® Financial Accounting ® General Ledger ® Periodic Tasks ® Closing ® Regroup ® Debit Balance Sheet Account Subsequently.
    Enter the company codes for which you want to perform the calculation. For these company codes, the payables and receivables are divided according to profit center and business area. The results are then saved.
    You can now transfer the data to Profit Center Accounting. Do not choose the next menu option Post B/S readjustment n Financial Accounting. Instead, transfer the data in the Profit Center Accounting application menu, under Actual Postings ® Period Closing ® Transfer Payables/Receivables
    You obtain a list of all the company codes in the active controlling area. Select the desired company codes and the period and fiscal year which you want to transfer to Profit Center Accounting.
    The system then posts the payables and receivables to Profit Center Accounting under the reconciliation accounts of the general ledger. No FI documents are created in the process
    You can call up the function for transferring material stocks in Profit Center Accounting Customizing, under Actual Postings ® Transfer Selected Balance Sheet Items ® Set Up Material Stocks.
    The selection screen provides you with the choice of all company codes within the active controlling area. Select the period to be transferred. The current period is always based on the status of Materials Management. Normally, the data from the previous period is transferred.
    You access the transfer function by choosing the following path from the Customizing menu for Profit Center Accounting: Actual postings ® Transferring selected balance sheet items ® Generate opening balance for work in process.
    The selection screen provides you with the choice of all company codes within the active controlling area. You also enter the period and fiscal year.
    You generally work with the standard results analysis version 0. Should you wish to use a different results analysis version, note that this must be set up in CO Customizing for updating in Financial Accounting, as the corresponding account determination is required.
    The program transfers all changes in work in process within a single period. When running this function for the first time with a given controlling area, please select the field Create opening balance. The system then posts the opening balance to the start period. You can also post the opening balance to period 01 at fiscal year change, so avoiding having to carry the balance forward.
    You access the transfer program by selecting Actual postings ® Transferring selected balance sheet items ® Generate opening balance for assets in Customizing for Profit Center Accounting.
    The selection screen provides you with the choice of all company codes within the active controlling area. The depreciation area book depreciation per trade law (01) is provided as a default. You also select the posting period and the fiscal year.
    You should run the program in the background, as large amounts of data are normally selected. If you select the field Line item, a line item will be created for each asset in Profit Center Accounting. When handling a large volume of data, you should only use this option for test purposes.
    The system assigns assets to profit centers indirectly, via assigned internal orders or cost centers (see Assigning Assets). The program transfers the acquisition and product costs, as well as cumulated value adjustments. The accounts used for this transfer are taken from account determination for Asset Accounting.
    Note that it is only possible to calculate key figures (such as Return on Investment) in Profit Center Accounting correctly if an indirect statement of assets and depreciations is made in Financial Accounting

      We are deriving segmental reporting through profit centers. I have created the profit and loss accounts as cost elements. Should I have to create the balance sheet items also as cost elements. In that case what should be the category for balance sheet items such as investment, asset, creditors, debtors and all other balance sheet items.

    The idea of profit center accounting is to have balance sheets, profability within the company for products, regions etc. You can derive balance sheet for these other than the legal balance sheet.
    Now coming to your point, as others rightly said when you create cost elements for p&l gl accounts, the costs flows to the profit centers from the cost centers.
    Then the GL accounts, you dont need to create cost elements. The profit centers are derived from the offsetting expense gl account. The profit center are derived from various assignments.
    Profit centers in the Material master - Vendors & Customers get the profit center from the profit center assigned in the MM Master of the material when you buy or sell.
    Profit center for asset - Cost center is assigned in the asset master from which it derived the profit center. When you buy asset, depreciation etc., flows to profit center accounting.
    Most of the transactions profit centers are derived from the profit center assigned in the cost center for all balance sheet accounts.
    Now coming to the New GL or Old GL, profit center are transferred to the balance sheets accounts esperically for Debtors & Creditors at the period end in Old GL by running TCode 2KEK, now with the New GL Document Splitting, the profit center is assigned immediately in the transaction itself.
    I hope it is clear how profit center accounting works.

  • Getting error message while defining Profit Center

    Dear Expert,
    Kindly suggest while adding profit center in profit center setup on profit center field earlier it allowed to save the profit center name in alpha numeric but recently we are getting error message while updating or adding on new profit center"Conversion failed when converting the nvarchar value "Profit Center Name" to data type int (CINF)".
    If anybody had a solution or came across this kind of situation then please forward us your valuable information that would be really great to tackle and out come from this issue.

  • Profit Center : Reflect - Vendor, Customer, Bank/Cash Balance

    Dear Experts,
    Ref. : Reflect - Vendor, Customer, Bank/Cash Balance, Balance Sheet GL Accounts - Profit Center wise.
    When we do postings to P&L Items, we assign a CO / Cost Object. Such Cost objects may be Orders, Cost Centers, etc., which has a Profit Center assigned to it.
    Now, we wish to view Balance Profit Center wise.
    My Concerns :
    1.  Can Vendor, Customer, Bank/Cash Balance, Balance Sheet GL Accounts - Profit Center wise. Since we do not assign CO objects to such line items, but the correspondense line items (P&L GL) has a CO object.
    2.  If yes, how do we move balance of such items, to Profit Center / profit Center wise.
    Experts, please help me to understand the concept.

    Hi,
    Are you in ECC activated new G/L? If yes, then you can define Profit Center as Document Splitting Characteristic for General Ledger and profit center will be in the AR/AP line item as well in ledger view (though you don't enter profit center during document entry).
    You cannot give the Profit center in line item level to the Subledger accounts like vendor and customers.Vendor and customer accounts take the profit center from the offsetting entry.If want to see the profit center to the particular document, open the document go to Environment field and select Balance Sheet Adjustment option.
    If you want to see the Profit center wise payables and receivables, use T.code GR55 and take report group 8A90 for Periodic Receivables and 8A91 for Payable.
    If you want to see the all payables with Profit center use Table BFOK_A for vendors BFOD_A for customers.

  • COPA Planning to Profit Center Accounting

    Hi,
    We are using ECC 6.0.
    When we do COPA planning and transfer the values of COPA to Profit Center, no data has been transfered to profit center plan items.
    We have not activated Planning version of Classic Profit Center Accounting. Is it required for ECC 6.0 also to activate Classic Profit Center Accoutning?
    We have Mapped requisit Value fields of COPA to GL Accounts.
    Can any one guide us in this regard.

    Hi,
       In COPA the planning has been done to the value field of PRCTR which represents Profit center. Through report forms the actual and plan data for the value fields can be derived in COPA itself. I dont think that the planned values can be transferred to profit center accouting. On the other hand the actuals of profit center with the same value fields can be derived in COPA.

  • Classical profit center Accounting in new GL

    Dear Experts,
    I am not aware about profit center configuration.We are planning to implement ECC-6.
    Today i faced problem in dummy client during configuration,
    What i did it- i have activated profit center at controlling area
    2) then did setting in OKES- created dummy profit center,define profit center standard hierachy,profit center currency = controlling area currency and activated profit center accounting
    3)Set Control Parameters for Actual Data- selected online transfer and line items
    But i am not sure-I need to do all the setting in ECC-6 like creation of dummy profit center and activation of online transfer +line item tansfer.
    Request you to guide me on configuration- Whether setting Of PCA will change in NEW GL or Not required in New GL.

    There is a long story about profit center accounting. I assume you are using Classic PCA, this means you can see the PCA documents.  And the solutions is below:
         For P/L account, even you don't maintain cost element for it, if you maintain the profit center in the application (Frontend transaction), then PCA line items will be generated for this account.
        For B/S account,  if you maintain the default Profit Center with transaction 3KEH/3KEI, the PCA line items will generated for this account also.
      Hints, don't maintain default profit center for AR/AP accounts, these accounts to be treated in periodic processing.
      First, calculate the distribution/adjust by F.5D, then transfer it by 1KEK. for others account rather than AR/AP, use F.5E
    For you case, if this account is P/L account, but you don't maintain profit center in the transaction, you can maintain default profit center as B/S account in 3KEH and 3KEI, then transfer it subsequently by transaction 1KE8.

    I have tried adding profit center auth objects and SU24- turning on K_PCA from No to Yes.
    The user is still able to pull all data.

    The functionality required by you had been introduced by SAP with the Ehp3. The extract from the release notes are as follows.
    "FIN_GL_CI_1: Authorization Check for Profit Centers (New)
    Use
    From SAP ECC 6.0, Enhancement Package 3, Business Function New General Ledger Accounting, you can define profit center authorizations for posting, displaying, and clearing documents. When you have activated the authorization check for profit  centers, the system reacts as follows:
    o A document can only be posted if the user has authorization for all profit centers to which
    postings were made in the document. The authorization check is performed
    simultaneously during data entry.
    o For manual clearing, the system only selects those open items that, in accordance with
    the general ledger view, make postings to profit centers that are initial or for which the
    user is authorized.
    o For document display, the system only displays those line items for which the profit
    centers are initial or in which postings are made to authorized profit centers.
    Note:
    The authorization check for profit centers does not enable transactions to be processed entirely
    from the point of view of profit centers. This means, for example, that automatic payment
    processes and automatic clearing continue to be performed centrally and not specific to profit
    centers - even when the authorization check is activated for profit centers.
    Effects on Customizing
    The following prerequisites must be met before profit center authorizations can be issued:
    o In Customizing for Financial Accounting (New), you have activated the scenario Profit
    Center Update for at least one ledger.
    o You have assigned the authorizations for the desired profit centers in the useru2019s profile.
    In Customizing for Financial Accounting Global Settings (New), you then perform the activity
    Activate Authorization Check for Profit Centers.
    If necessary, you can activate this function in Customizing independently of the other functions
    in the New General Ledger Accounting business function. The function is not activated
    automatically when the business function is activated."

    I want to use profit center as objects for statistical postings. I have opened field profit center in fb01.
    Now when I make actual posting for cost center or internal order I can define profit center too. But even if I choose needed profit center the system puts automatically dummy profit center.
    How can I avoid  this and define profit center I want?

    You can not achieve that... The PC in FI postings cant be changed when you are making posting to a Cost Element
    If there is no PC in your CO object, then Dummy PC will be forced into the posting..

    Hi,
    For postings from treasury you can assign default profit center and business area (also segment from EH3) to account assignment reference.  The basic idea being that you generally manage all similar transactions with same account assignment reference through a same organization unit like profit center.  You do this assignment in TRM -- General Settings -- Accounting -- Link to other Accounting Components -- Assign additional account assignments.
    However in case you want to have a different profit center derived in a different way than through account assignment reference, you could use a custom logic and derive it using the BAdI TPM_ACCIF_TRAC.
