Defining multiple hierarchies for single dimension in Administrator?

Hello,
We are attempting to define multiple hierarchies in a single dimension in Administrator. The following two examples are representative use cases for what we're trying to do:
DateDim
----By Calendar Quarter
--------By Calendar Month
------------By Week
----------------By Day
----By Fiscal Quarter
--------By Fiscal Month
----By Calendar Month
--------By Week
Note that "By Calendar Month" can't really be a shared level because we do not want to include "By Day" in the third hierarchy.
ServiceLocationDim
----By Sales Region
--------By State
------------By City
----By State
--------By City
------------By Zip
----------------By Store
Note again that "By State" can't be a shared level because its children differ in the two hierarchies.
The goal is to have multiple drilldown paths supported. If there is a different way to do this in Administrator that does not use hierarchies, that would be acceptable.
Can anyone point me in the right direction?
Thanks,

Hi,
when defining multiple hierarchies in a dimension, the lowest level needs to be the same for each hierarchy...that's a prerequisite.
But I think you can define them this way...and restrict your 'drill' level on your fact table...as I think you will have a different aggregation level overthere.
So for your dimension you'll set the logical level on the lowest level and in your fact you can play with the logical level depending on to the drill level?
Can that help you?
A.

  • Multiple Hierarchies from Single Dimension Table in OBIEE-11g?

Is it possible to have Multiple Hierarchies from Single Dimension Table in OBIEE-11g?
    Like 1)Year-Qtr-Month-Weeks 2)Year-Month-Days

    Hi,
or if your lowest level is the same like
    Day->month->year->Total
    Day->businessMonth->businessyear->Total
    Then yes, it is.
Create the first, then you start to create the second by adding your top(business year) level on the same level as the one you have (year) both under your total.
Then when you would add your second base level, there is a special option for it, something like use other hierarchy level/shared level (sorry can't recall and does not have a connection right now) then you select your existing day level under your businessmonth level.
    Hope this helps,

  • Hyperion Planning : multiple hierarchies for a dimension ?

    Hi,
Is it possible into planning 9.2 to manage multiple hierarchies for a dimension ?
I didn't found that in the documentation but I had already listened that there is a workaround to do that.
    Regards

    Hi,
I would like for the entity dimension used two differents hierarchies (two differents relation Parent/child), one for example used by the accounting service and an other used by the sale service.
The level0 member are the same but parents are differents in these two hierarchies.
It's something possible to do into OFA or EPB and I would like to do the same into Hyperion. planning.

    Hi
I'm building a repository with The administration tool of OBIEE. the data source is an Oracle 10g datawarehouse created with OWB.
There is a geographic dimension with 4 different hierarchies and I want to create the same hierarchies in my repository.is it possible with OBIEE??
NB: The 4 hierarchies share some of the logical columns.

  • How to use multiple hierarchies for a single char in single query

    Hi,
Is there any way that we can use multiple hierarchies for a single char in single query. I tried and it just allows me to select one hierarchy even if I use hierarchy variable.
I have a requirement where user wants to see information related to a cost center with different cost center groups in different hierarchies (every year has different cost center group hierarchies).
Suppose I want to see information related to a cost center from year 2001-2004.in these four year cost center may have been associated to different groups depending upon that year hierarchy. How can I do that?
    Thanks
    Jona

Nope. Now way to do this.
There is always just one hierarchy assigned to a characteristic. And even if the hierarchy was time dependent, it only reads it for one key date and not according to transaction data.

  • Multiple Hierarchies in one dimension - comments?

    multiple hierarchies
    Hi Experts,
I'd like your comments on my implementation of multiple hierarchies in one dimension.- especially if this can be done in a way that:
    a) still enables users to choose the hierarchy in a dashboard prompt
    b) reduces maintenance to a minimum
The dimension groups ages into several different groups like the example below:
    Hierarchy1 Hierarchy2
    Age......Groups........Groups.....
    0........0-2...........0-5
    1........0-2...........0-5
    2........0-2...........0-5
    3........3-5...........0-5
    4........3-5...........0-5
    75.......70-75.........70-80
    76.......76-80.........70-80
Right now I've implemented this by defining one dimension having one hierarchy:
    Total
    ....Hierarchy
    .......Group
    .........Age
The underlying logical table is based on several logical table sources (LTS) - one for each hierarchy as shown in the first example(Hierarchy1, Hierarchy2).Every LTS has a fragmentation definition filtering on values on 'hierarchy-level'.
Columns in the logical table (and of course in the underlying LTS) are:
    Column               mapped to hierarchy-level
    - Hierarchy          Hierarchy
    - Hierarchy_id          Hierarchy
    - Group          Group
    - Group-id          Group
    - Age               Age
    Advantages:
A answers / dashboard user can select one or more hierarchies by using a dashboard prompt.
Adding a new hierarchy (a new grouping) doesn't need changes in the dimension itself
    Disadvantages:
A new grouping needs manual steps to implement
    - a new physical table
    - a new LTS attached to the logical table (including the fragmentation content)
Thanks for your time and comments

    Hi,
You need to upload all data files into an internal table first either using OPEN DATASET (application server files) or GUI_UPLOAD (PC files).

  • Multiple Alerts for Single error in interface is a design not issue with XI

    Hi,
This is constraint of alert mechanism in XI.
You get multiple alerts for single error, the reason is that since XI will try multiple times to process a failed message so each time it fails in its tries it will send an e-mail.to stop this the "Suppress multiple alert" box is checked but what it does is that it stops all the alerts of that specific rule until the first one is confirmed.Personally i myself (and other experts too) suggest to leave the box unchecked coz its better to get tons of mails for a specific error rather than not getting any e-mail and thereby wasting time in tracking/solving the issue resulting in revenue loss to client.
As per above comments is it possible to write an ABAP code so that we can stop multiple alerts to be sending to inbox. I am sure if we can delete message from some table then we can stop sending multiple messages to alert inbox and to the subsequent mail id also. I am not sure how alert being generated. I know where they get logged in this table sxmsalertlogger. If someone know how it works in background please let me know the table names.
    Regards
    Ria

    Hi Gaurav,
You can personalize the way in which you receive alerts.
Simply choose Personalization to make individual settings for your alert inbox. You can determine a substitute who will then receive the alerts. In addition, you can choose whether alerts are sent to you time-independently or time-dependently. The default setting is that alerts are sent time-independently to your alert inbox and via e-mail when they occur. You can additionally select the communication methods FAX and SMS for time-independent alert notification.
If you want to receive alerts only on certain days for a certain time, simply select the option for time-dependent sending of alerts and choose Create to create a new table entry. You can then choose the corresponding factory calendar, the time interval, and communication channel. Alerts that arise during this time frame will be sent in any case to your alert inbox. If you have also selected other communication channels, the alerts are additionally sent to you using these other channels.
This above text is from SAP help, do you think by changing anything in personnalisation i can stop multiple alerts. I have some issue with Personalisation link so was wondering would be worth to get tht personalisation issue resolved.

  • Query selected levels of multiple hierarchies of one dimension

    Hi to all.
I have created through AWM 11 a customer dimension with two hierarchies as follows.
    SLM_HIER: All Customers -> Salesman -> Customer
    GEO_HIER: All Customers -> State -> City -> Customer
I have also created a SALES_CUBE (measures: QUANTITY, VALUE, aggregation: SUM) that is dimensioned with Customer dim.
I'm using OBIEE to query the OLAP engine (through the relational views that AWM created automatically). I have followed the OTN OBE tutorials.
I would like to have the following query on the cube:
Give me QUANTITY where SALESMAN=S1 and CITY in ('Athens','Rome').
Is it possible to have such a query? As far as I understand there are no ready aggregated data for selected levels of both hierarchies.
    Thank you very much.
    Chris

I think OBIEE would also give you your answer from OLAP.
This query has filters defined from both the hierarchies and hence OBIEE would (should) automatically service this query from the highest common level b/w the hierarchies (in this case: base/leaf level - Customer). As a result of this, if CUST is your Customer dimension, OBIEE (at least, the older style of obiee modeling with olap) would introduce the security filter CUST_LEVEL = 'Customer'. Granularity of the resultset returned would be per individual Customer. 1 record per Customer satisfying the criteria SALESMAN='S1' and CITY in ('Athens','Rome').
Ideally you should include the Cust Id, Quantity columns in your obiee answers report and use an internal answers object/view like a Pivot View to hide Customer details column and get a localized aggregation performed over the resultset returned from OLAP to get the consolidated Quantity. Answers table has data at Customer level, Answers Pivot can show the required result.
Note1: The Cube cannot have this result pre-calculated since its a contradictory combination of filters across hierarchies. Level specific aggregate values calculated (or pre-calculated) in the cube for Salesman level (h1) would contain Customers from all cities (h2) and similarly City level (h2) Aggregates would contain Customers of all Salesmen (h1).
Note2: I believe OBIEE modeling with OLAP suffers from some issues relating to multiple hierarchies (e.g: if you have filter from non-default hierarchy CITY in ('Athens','Rome') alone, i think it would still fetch the results from lowest common level Customer instead of from City level directly).

  • Defining Multiple operations for async calls in OSB

    Hi,
I have three Asynchronous BPEL processes- BPELProcessA, BPELProcessB and BPELProcessC
I am trying to invoke BPELProcessB and BPELProcessC from BPELProcessA through an OSB Proxy service. I want to use a single proxy service to make calls to BPELProcessB and BPELProcessC from BPELProcessA . To do this I defined multiple operations in the wsdl of the proxy service. This is not working
But I am able to implement the following
    1. If BPELProcessB and BPELProcessC are Synchronous, I am able to invoke BPELProcessB and BPELProcessC by defining multiple operations in the proxy service wsdl
    2. I am able to invoke and receive response from 1 Asynchronous BPEL process by defining 1 operation in the proxy service wsdl. I followed the approach described at [http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E13159_01/osb/docs10gr3/bpelpmtransport/transport.html#wp1111338]. Does this mean for each asynchronous BPEL, I need a separate pair of OSBs for each async process ( 1 for request and 1 for callback)?
Has anyone tried invoking multiple asynchronous processes by defining multiple operations in the wsdl?
Kindly request every to give inputs

    Hi Eric
Below is the flow and error we are getting:
ProcessA is calling ProcessB and ProcessC through common OSB. In OSB we have created individual business services for ProcessB and ProcessC.I am using common Proxy service for calling these two Business Services using different operations.I have created one callback business service and Proxy service for ProcessA.
I am successfully able to call BPEL processes, ProcessB and ProcessC, but during callback client activity these two BPEL processes are failing with below error and ProcessA is going in waiting on receive activity state:

  • Multiple hierarchies in a dimension

    Hi,
I have created a time dimension with several heirarchies using OWB 9.2. I want to have several cubes attached to this dimension, but I want each cube to only have access to a specific hierarchy, i.e. not all the hierarchies.
I cannot see a method within OWB and I am not aware of any specific DML command.
Does anyone know how this can be achieved?
    Thanks.

This is an interesting issue. In OLAP terms a dimension key must and can only be represented by one value. That value will never change unless new data is loaded. So to implement the hierarchies you have listed:
    Top/Group/Division/Product
    Top/Division/Product/Group
    Top/Product/Division/Group
you will need separate and unique keys at each level for each hierarchy, except for 'Top' which can be shared across all the hierarchies and whose value is constant across all levels and hierarchies. The examples you list above do not really make sense as Product Groups cannot roll up to Products. Typically you might do something like this:
    Standard Time
    Year
    Quarter
    Month
    Week
    Day
    Fiscal Time
    Fiscal Year
    Fiscal Quarter
    Month
    Week
    Day
So in this case day/week/month rollup into a new level called fiscal quarter. Alternatively you could have a retail calendar
    Year
    Month
    Week Number
    Day
Where week number is between 1-53, and weeks roll-up to months. Now in this case the level Months could be implemented as month number (1-12) or as Jan-Dec. Using Jan-Dec it could be possible for the dimension keys to contain different results compared to the standard time hierarchy keys. At this point the hierarchy would break down and the wrong results would be generated. So the only solution would be to implement a new level for both Month and also year as this could also potentially generate different aggregated results:
    Retail Year
    Month Number
    Week Number
    Day
So you need to be very careful about defining and sharing levels across different hierarchies.
    Hopefully, that makes sense?

  • Multiple members for single user variable???

    Hi,
Can I select multiple members or a hierarchy for a single user variable?
My requirement is to use a dimension which consist of more than 100 members but the user will not enter data for 100 members
at the same time so I want to give user an option to select the members for which he wants to enter data.
I was thinking of using user variable but it is allowing me to select only one member for user variable created for that dimension,
that means if he has to enter data for 10 members he has to change that variable 10 times or I have to use 10 different user variable for that dimension.
what if any user wants 20 members, at that time I have only 10 user variables.
    Please help..
    Thanks in advance..

    Hi,
Can I select multiple members or a hierarchy for a single user variable? Are the required members descendants of any particular member(hierarchy )?
If so, you can use IDescendants<user variable> in the form's page. And you can also use dynamic user variable option.
