Delayed landline repair

I am a senior citizen from State College, PA who depends on my telephone landline. On the morning of August 2, 2011, I reported my telephone outage to Verizon. I was given the repair time by 7:00 pm on August 9th, but I was told that the problem would probably be fixed in 24-48 hours.  It is now after 5:00 pm on August 8 and the problem still has not been fixed.  Why is this taking so long?  (It's interesting that the Verizon online repair status report for my request indicates that the problem is not a "Technical" one.)   Luckily I have a modest pay-as-you-go Tracfone for emergency usage.  Last night I had to go online and purchase additional minutes since I had run out of precious minutes during an important telephone call late at night.  What would have happened if I had no online access to purchase additional cell phone minutes or there had been a serious emergency situation.   I would not even have had a way to make a 911 call.   Doesn't Verizon take such factors into consideration?   I hope that other Verizon customers in State College are not experiencing similar telephone problems.  If my telephone service is restored by 7:00 pm on August 9th, I will have waited more than seven (7) days!  This is not acceptable.    Verizon has no reason to be proud.

PhonelessNana,
I'm sorry that you are having a delay in getting your line fixed and are unable to make calls. I would hope that is resolved by now. One way to tell if its a Verizon incoming signal problem is to take a phone and plug it into the telephone interface box on the outside of your house to see if you have dialtone. If you have dialtone on the outside of your house, that means Verizon is sending a dialtone down to your home and you have an internal wiring or device problem. If theres no dialtone outside, then theres a definite Verizon issue we have to address immediately. Please private message me if you are still having a problem with your line.

  • Unacceptable delay in repair

    Hi,
I have send my laptop to Toshiba depot for repair, because one fine morning the laptop stopped functioning.   The depot received my laptop through ups on December 21, 2010. Reference number <removed>, serial no <removed>  Till now the status is "repair in progress" and every time when I make a call to customer care or case managers they are asking me to wait for another 7-10 business days.   I am hearing the same excuse from the day when the depot received my laptop.   I am a student at State University of New York at Buffalo and I bought this laptop just for my studies.   I am currently managing my assignments and group projects by staying late in library.   I won't be able to hang on with my studies with out affecting my grades if there is further delay in delivering my laptop.  So I request you to either expedite my laptop repair or refund my money so that I can buy a new laptop. And one more thing.  The case managers are very rude and they are not even letting me talk to their supervisors.   All I am asking is either you provide my laptop repaired quickly or give a a laptop for loan untill you guys repair my laptop.   For that they say that they cannot provide any of these alternatives and the only alternative they can provide me is to wait.   So I asked them if  they cannot have any authority to take such decision then let me talk to their supervisors or some one who can take such decisions and for that they say they are the top level in the company and there is no one else they report to.
    Best Regards

This is exactly what I'm afraid of with sending my 8 month old A505 off to the dreaded "repair depot". First I bought it because I was so happy with my first Toshiba. Now after getting an inferior product, and even worse response by tech support, I've already posted on Facebook to not buy Toshiba products. I just started a new business that depends on internet access....I can't be without my PC for 2 days, nevermind the supposed 7-10 AFTER they receive it!!! Toshiba needs to step up and make some big changes here!!! I feel my model is clearly a lemon, I have the display issue, no sound from one speaker, and doesn't read external media most of the time.....nearly $1,000 and get less than 8 months from it? REALLY????? And it's not like I abuse the thing,,,,it's never moved off my desk.....I clean the fan, etc., regularly...treat it properly, and that's what I get?? And total lack of response!! Nobody can ever do anything!! If my business suffers because I have to wait for repairs, I'll be going to small claims court on them....I've had it!! You're right about the techs too....they can't be understood, then they get rude because you ask them to repeat themselves, and they want you to believe they have no bosses!!!! I'm supposed to call customer service tomorrow.....I hope I've calmed down by then....I'm generally pretty reasonable, but this is BS!! Just let those of us with warranties take it back to where we bought it and get it replaced if you won't let them repair it!! I'm afraid I'll never see it again if I have to send it!!

  • Type delays?  repairing permissions just to get them back later on .

I have what i thought was power in my MAC. I thought i wouldnt get these problems i used to get in 1997 with an 8500 and 7.0
After working with only Photoshop CS2 launched, i notice that as i type Metadata i will get a delay, ie the letter hits the screen a msec or two after i type it. It starts out fine in the day when i begin working but i notice that as time lingers on ( hours ) it never fails and i imagine these delays might be the HD the APP whatever. Used to be RAM.
I have run Permissions so many times. Why after i repair them, i will get a message without any discrepencies that my permissions have been repaired. Then hours later when i run verify permissions i can see the same ones i thought i repaired before are still appearing. e.g like library/dvd player etc... arent they supposed to be fixed if i repair them? I erased my HD one week ago cause i had problems with pshop ( freezing ) What is causing these problems?
delays and permissions. I run firewire hds usually 2 at a time but today none!
    thanks

It would help us, so we can advise you correctly, if you would update your Mac's specs. in My Settings over on the right, near your name and under the logout choice please.
It presently says 10.4.4. You still don't have to worry about the Permission repairs always showing up. More importantly, try that disk repair shown in the link!
    Cheers!

  • Backlog on repairs in NY?

Two service reps have told me there is a backlog on repairs in New York City. One said there's been a lot of "weather-related" damage (?!) It may take 2 weeks or more to get a landline repaired. Anyone else encountering delays? heard anything about why?

I am a long-time Verizon customer.  I understand that systems aren't perfect and there will be times when the phone lines go down, but when I have no landline service for THREE WEEKS, I have to have my landline calls forwarded to my cell phone and use up my LIMITED minutes, and I am unable to use the DSL service I recently reinstated, we have a serious problem!
Shouldn't Verizon have a contingency plan in place for when permanent workers strike?!  Why should the customer have to bear the burden of poor service?!  Technicians came to my apartment on Saturday, August 13 (almost two weeks since I placed a service call!), and I was told that the issue is based out of the central office and that I would have my landline service up and running by the end of the day.  Well, that obviously hasn't happened, and I have been trying to get in touch with someone since Monday, August 15 to no avail.
When I finally do get in touch with a rep, they better credit my account for all the service I couldn't use, the minutes on my cell phone, and give me a month of free service on everything!!!

  • T400 - Video problems and a long wait for repair...

    Hi,
I'd just like to state my experience with Lenovo Customer Support for a video problem with my T400.  Bottom line, as of today, it's been around 27 business days that it's been with Lenovo, and 41 days total since it's failed on me, and nobody, including Lenovo Customer Support, seems to know what its status is exactly, except that they're waiting on a part which has no ETA.
In July 2009, I bought a T400, a 2764CTO version with the switchable graphics between the internal intel graphics and the ATI GPU.
All was well until February 1st, 2010, when the LCD sudden wouldn't work.  Well, it would work, but the screen was very very dim, even with the display maxed out on brightness.  You would have literally bring your nose to the screen in order to even make out any text or images - definitely unusable.  However, if you hooked up an external monitor via the video output, the T400 would display video output properly that way.  When I did this, I noticed that the switchable graphics option wasn't there any more - couldn't switch to the ATI GPU.  Based on this, I figured it must be a video card or LCD issue, or a combination of both.
So, I called Lenovo Customer Support (CS) at 1-800-565-3344, since I'm up here in Canada, and I initially was issued a case number of 41JRFSD, and I agreed to send it to a local Lenovo Repair Centre.  Oops, my bad, I made a mistake using the locator tool I was told to use at bplocator.lenovo.com, and thought the Centre was relatively close.  Not quite.  So, I called Lenovo CS again, and they issued me with a new case number, 40KWSYF, and said they'd send a box for return to depot.  And within 2 days, Feb 2nd or 3rd, I got a Purolator courier return box.  That's fast service!  Pleased, I put my T400 in according to instructions, and I sent it off.
Fast forward to about mid-February.  I called Lenovo CS, and apparently there was a delay - the depot needed a part that wasn't in stock. Fine, I know these things can happen - I'll wait.
Fast forward to March 1st.  I talk to a Lenovo CS rep, and it appears that the part needed has arrived, and they've put a rush order to get the computer back to me. Great!
Fast forward to March 8th, still no computer.  I talk to another Lenovo CS rep... strange, there's no update.  The issue gets escalated to the Depot managers.
Fast forward to March 12th.  Still no word on my T400's status.  An email fron CS has been sent to the depot.  Not even the CS reps know what's going on.  The rep I talk to figures there should be a response by the end of the day.
Fast forward to today, March 13th, 4:50pm Pacific Time.  I just finish talking to Lenovo CS, there's been no response from the depot.  Apparently there's a part that they're waiting on for repairs, but there's no ETA on it.  Is it the same part that I've waiting on all this time?  Is it a new one?  I don't know.
At this point, I've been told to send an email explaining my situation, and I've also been told to talk to Scott the next time I call CS on Monday after 3pm Eastern.  I have to stress that the Lenovo Customer Support Reps I've talked to have all been very sympathetic and have been courteous, helpful, and professional - something I appreciate from having worked in Customer Support myself.  But the bottom line remains: my computer's not back to me.
So, my questions to the community here: is my experience here typical?  Is there any hope of my seeing my computer back, or even at least just the hard drive?  I've used Lenovo computers for work for the past 7 years, and it was my good work experiences that led me to buying a Lenovo for home use.  However, it's been a while since I've been without my T400, and I was hoping to get my taxes done on the computer too, since they're due at the end of March.  I'll reserve judgement on Lenovo until I get my computer back, but at this point, all I can say is... I'm disappointed.
If you're reading this, I'll let you judge my experience for youself.  I'll update my case as it progresses.
    Thanks!

    Hi all,
So, an update with some good news: my computer is finally back!
After a total of over 40 business days (just over 2 months) I finally have my T400 back at home, working again!
According to the spec sheets, the repair depot had to replace: the systemboard/planar, display/LCD panel, LCD cable, PC card, bluetooth, and the inverter.  BIOS/Embedded controller was also updated, along with the regular diagnostics to ensure everything was working properly.
I give Lenovo credit though: they got the final parts to repair the computer on Monday, April 5th, and shipped my computer back to me for the next day (today, April 6th).  That's fast service, once repaired!
However, my case spans over 4 screens of updates and repair depot orders of parts.
Also, it took me over 10 calls to Lenovo's Customer Service, plus an escalation to a higher-level manager after 1 month had passed, to get progress updates and ETAs for repair.
Lenovo called me only once to give me an update, and that was the manager whom my issue was escalated to: all the other times, I called Lenovo for an update.
The story doesn't end here, however:
In talking to Customer Support, they told me that Sales might be able to sell me an extended warranty at a discount, given the issues I had.  And indeed, after talking to Sales, they offered me a 1 year warranty extension at a price of just over $100 CDN, plus tax.  This is a sale price, compared to the regular retail of $129.  Unfortunately, they can't sell me just one month.
At this point, I refused their offer, and again escalated to a manager to request an extension of exactly 1 month on my existing warranty.  I figure 1 month delay in repairs, that's plausible - crap happens, and while most repairs take 5-10 business days, I can understand it can sometimes go higher.  Two months though....  My request for a warranty extension is being considered by the manager it was escalated to.
So, one last question for you folks reading this: am I being unreasonable, talking to Lenovo support one more time to request a 1 month extension of my warranty, given the length of time it's taken for repairs?  I'll post the response Lenovo will give me tomorrow, as they've said they'll do.
One thing for sure: Lenovo's response will definitely influence my choice of brand from whom to buy a new computer (and it will influence the choice of my friends who've heard my issues, and maybe yours too).  My particular repair problem may not come up often, but if it does happen to you, I'd be happy to know of your experience.
Thanks for sticking with me through the drama!

  • Verizon wants to replace my landline

I have local phone and DSL service with Verizon.  I pay around $45 (including all the taxes) per month.  Generally speaking, I am happy with the service.  I got a call from Verizon service that they offer free of charge service to replace my landline because they had a lot of complaints from other customers that the line is not stable.  Accroding to Verizon service, it's a rotating service and is going to happen to all the households in the MD.  After the replacement, my monthly bill will increase to $50+ taxes, and I have to sign up 1 year contract. If I do not agree, future landline repair will be charged to me even it's Verizon's problem.  If I do not agree, future landline replacement will be my own expense.  Verizon service said this service applies to the whole MD.  Is this ture that Verizon is doing this?  I am happy with the service now.  Any suggestion?

I find some of what you are saying a little hard to believe. Generally local service is regulated, and in Maryland, that is done by the Public Service Commission (PSC), so I doubt it is quite as simple as your post suggests. Any increase in the basic service rates would have to be approved by the PSC. However at $45 a month, you are obviously getting more than basic service, and some of those services may not be regulated. If you have questions, you might want to contact the PSC. Is the 'upgrade' to the external wiring? DOes the new price include maintenance of on premises wiring? DSL is an unregulated, so Verizon can change the price, and product without any involvement of the PSC. Is Verizon trying to upgrade your DSL service? In general, Verizon is legally responsible for everything beyond the point at which the wiring connects to the NIB or connection block at your house, and I cannot imagine the PSC or the FCC allowing that to change. However unless you have inside wire maintenance from Verizon, anything that happens on your side of the NIB or connection block is your responsibility, and it's been that way for a long time.So in theory, you could be responsible for some repair charges, but ONLY the problem was in your equipment or wiring on your side of the NIB/connection block. So it isn't clear to me what Verizon is trying to sell you. Unless the price increase includes some additional services that you aren't getting today (or you have fallen off the end of a contract), I don't see how Verizon can simply increase your basic charges for regulated services. Any increase in the basic charges would have to be approved by the PSC, and I doubt you would have any option.

  • My experience in Toshibas product and customer services

Just a warning to people who may be considering purchasing a Qosmio based on my own experiences and the research I have done in the last week.
Toshibas customer service is simply not what it once was and there are 100s of reports of Qosmios of all generations suffering extreme issues just outside of warranty periods.
Ref: Toshiba Qosmio X500-149, Support call reference ********
I am writing to express my frustration, anger and disappointment in Toshibas product and customer services.
I am a Freelance Community Manager, Video Game and hardware reviewer in the video games industry presently looking after 2 communities for 2 employers totalling over 2.5m users, I travel to a lot of trade shows, expos and community meet and greets where I require a laptop suitable of showing the employers products which are usually AAA video games or editing video on the fly for publication to social networking sites.
In January of 2011 my 4 year old Alienware hit that point where it really needed replaced, I opted for a Toshiba Qosmio over the Asus G73 as there was a 300 price difference for near identical spec.
I managed to source a X500-149 at PCWorld the companies flagship model here in the UK paying 1499 for it on January 26th 2011 reduced from 1799.
For the 1st 13 month this laptop performed admirably aside a design issue of the fan guards that I raised on the 16th May 2011 with PCWorld where the heat expelled causes the rear guard plastics to become exceptionally brittle and crack. I evangelised the product to anyone who asked me what laptop and model it was that was running these AAA games in such great detail, something I certainly won't be doing in future.
In early March 2012 it then began randomly locking up requiring a hard reboot this would then suffer issues restarting, reporting Operating system could not be found this would usually point to a fault on the primary HD, disk checking software however reported no errors but this continued to happen which would lead me to suspect the motherboard.
Within a month of this problem starting the left laptop fan began making a horrible screeching noise and had a distinct wobble whenever high RPM's were required and the machine began to often go into thermal shut-down whilst performing my work duties and utilising graphics and higher than idle CPU.
I decided on the 23rd April 2012 that enough was enough and I was going to speak to Toshiba as for this to happen to a flagship laptop that was only just out of warranty was simply unacceptable.
23rd April called to report the issue and was basically told tough luck its out of warranty at this point I also updated my tel numbers with Toshiba as the info was outdated, after expressing my anger at this Toshiba agreed to offer me a extended warranty at a cost of 166.
I was fuming to say the least Toshibas flagship laptop breaks at 14 month old and I am expected to stump up more money. If I was not desperate as the machine is critical to my work I would have returned the machine to PCWorld under the sales of goods act and it not being fit for purpose.
As that course of action would likely lead to legal proceedings, engineer reports and even more delay than just dealing with Toshiba for a repair, against my better judgement I called back at 11am on 24th April paid the 166 and took Toshiba up on the warranty extension, order number ********** again having to provide correct tel numbers as where once again incorrect, immediately after I reported the faults.
Toshiba Support centre on fault reporting where great noting each issue in detail and raised a collection with UPS for the following day.
The evening of the 24th April whilst I was retrieving data from the laptop in preparation for factory resetting it the machine went into thermal shut-down with a very distinct smell of burning chemical/plastic coming from the rear vents.
It took me over 90 minutes to get the machine cool enough to actually reboot and get my data after this I shut it back down and boxed it up not be used again.
I thought the best course of action would be to report this as it was a fair step up from the previous overheating. Wednesday 25th April at around 9am I called Toshiba to report this and was advised this would have to be dealt with by a head office case manager, as the item had become hazardous thus the collection that would take the laptop to the service centre was cancelled.
At this stage the advisor took my contact numbers again and escalated the case to head office advising at that time that I would be called by HO within 24 hrs.
Thursday 26th April 15:31 Well past the 24 hr mark and no sign of a call so I called support again and spoke to a advisor called Jacob. Jacob advise that HO had indeed tried calling on 01670 ******* this number was my old number, this number was the number I had advised twice already was incorrect and had provided both a correct land-line and mobile number 3 times previously. To say I was annoyed was a understatement.
Jacob attempted to contact Chloe Sontag who was looking after my case but the line just rang out so Jacob advised that he had sent an email asking for Chloe to contact myself.
Friday came and still no contact by 15:00 so I called support who once again tried to patch me to Chloe who's number once again just rang out and again an email was sent asking to call me.
No call by 17:30 so I called tech support again and spoke to Ian asking for head offices number so I could call them direct, Ian provided the number yet advised that HO are now closed.
After expressing my frustration with this whole process and just how critical this machine is to my daily working life Ian promised to look into the case on Monday AM and try and expedite actually getting a phone call to at least start the process of having this laptop repaired.
To say I'm annoyed is really a understatement not only has this failure to receive a simple phone call at least delayed the repair by almost a week but it is costing me more and money daily when I spent a large amount on what I imagined would be a great laptop for 3-4 years and believed Toshiba actually had good customer service in the event something did happen.
My best guess is that Chloe is on holiday or is part time or such like as her phone just rings out and if that is the case then I would question why assign a case to her, if she isn't then I would want to know why after 2 additional mails advising that the customer is not happy and to contact them has there been no contact or are your case workers just so overworked with faulty products that they can't manage the workload ??
So far Toshibas inability to produce a product that last as long as you expect it would has cost me 2 days off work that I am having to make up this weekend thus cancelling prior commitments, 166 extended warranty 600 for a HP laptop that I had to go and purchase yesterday 27th April 2012 to actually perform my work on and who knows how much in phone calls by the time this matter will finally be resolved.
I was happy with Toshiba as a manufacturer and of course laptops can have issues however having now researched these issues far to many Qosmio X500 users report severe overheating just after the 12 month period or within it and many state that repair after repair has taken place but still to no avail, this on top of the cracking of the rear heat-sink guards has to be a design fault.
This letter will not arrive with you before I have hopefully had a phone call and my laptop has at least been collected for repair, If I have not had that phone call then I would expect another letter very shortly.
Why have I wrote this letter ? To express my disappointment with just how poor the durability of your flagship laptop is and also at just how poor your customer service are, 1500 is a lot of money in the PC purchasing scheme of things and to expect this quality of hardware and customer service is simply unacceptable.
I expect the repair to be expedited and if like some of the horror storys I have read online parts required will take 4 weeks + then I would expect a replacement laptop, not everyone uses these things for entertainment and whilst the HP I had to rush out and buy with money I didn't really have available can allow me to perform my core duties to the minimum it cannot allow me to perform my duties to my standards, my employers standards or my expectant communities standards.
This has been a really unfortunate series of events as I had been considering the X870 Ivy Bridge based on the Nvidia 670m Qosmio which would release soon and passing this X500 onto my partner but after these events and the fact that the HP laptop had to come out of the money saved for it then I can categorically state that will not be the case and I will instead opt for the Asus G55 or G75.
If this issue cannot be resolved to a satisfactory manner then I will have no option but to seek an independent engineers report as well as printing the myriad of similar reports of these issues on the internet and return the item to PCWorld.
In line with the sale of goods act 1979 a large electrical item has to be of satisfactory quality and fit for purpose for a period of 6 years whilst I wouldn't expect the full 6 years from a laptop I would expect at least 3-4 year especially considering that this is a near 2000 flagship model not a 200 budget model.
This is a action I really do not want to take as it will likely end in small claims court against PCWorld a company that on this occasion has done nothing wrong, I do not believe in punishing those who are not at fault so its a action I really wouldn't be happy with and I'm sure PCWorld one of if not the largest vendor of Toshiba products when you incorporate the rest of the DSG group wouldn't be too pleased with it either.
    Frustratingly

So I received my laptop back today after having fans replaced and a good clean as well as the top cover replaced.
Opened the box and took the laptop out 1st thing I noticed was a screw rattling around inside, SIGH!!!!
Plugged the laptop in and attempted to boot it at this point it just cycle through finalisation of windows install and shutdown.
How could a laptop have been tested if it didn't even have windows installed ?
An hour later and I gave up unplugged it and lo and behold it actually booted when on battery only.
I then noticed that the SSD was full, oh wait no it wasn't the head office engineer in his infinite wisdom decided that partitioning a 64GB SSD to 2 drives barely even leaving enough for Windows on the C: and wait for it putting the HDD recovery on the second partition was a good course of action.
So a completely borked install and a screw floating around inside remind me how this particular engineer has a job ??
I spent the next 15 minutes just moving data around and creating and deleting partiitions to fix this mess up.
Grabbed HWMonitor to check temps and at an idle 50c on CPU and 36c on GPU they didn't look too bad,
Installed the Toshiba recommended Nvidia driver a driver I hasten to add that was released in 2010 as Toshiba have not updated the drivers for their flagship series laptop since then, They are happy to take your 1643 that the unit cost but then don't expect support for it.
Anyway that aside I then installed 1 of the games I work on and began to run the machine through our benchmark software wooooosh the temps shot up to 90c+ on both CPU and GPU and remained at this temp for the duration of the benchmark never quite triggering thermal shutdown, I then loaded into a warzone for further testing and sure enough half way through it the machine shut down due to thermal shutdown.
I then uninstalled the toshiba driver and tried a NVidia one sure enough as others have advised actual Nvidia drivers seem worse and thermal shutdown came so much earlier.
I have been to PCWorld today to begin proceedings of returning outside of warranty due to not being fit for purpose or of suitable quality. This is costing me a further 60 and at least 2 weeks more without a proper machine and will likely result in me getting about 1300 back from PCWorld.
So lets do the math on just what this will have cost me by the time its finished.
    1634 Original purchase
    166 Extended Warranty
600 Backup Laptop whilst this was away for a month
    60 outside of warranty assessment
    50 phone calls
I will probably receive 1300 back but then 1300 doenst buy me the spec I need for work so I will have to pull out another 300-400 for the required spec so lets add that to the original figures.
A Toshiba Qosmio, Toshibas flagship laptop will have cost me in total 2910 almost double its actual retail price.
I will NEVER buy a Toshiba product again and it will become my lifes mission to let everyone know just how terrible they are.

  • Memory 6280

I know there have already been a few posts on this subject, but none of them have been answered satisfactorily.
I have had the 6280 for 2 months, and within days got message unable to receive texts, not enough memory, needed to delete stuff. Deleted all in/outbox, checked memory status, and of 5.7mb phone memory, only 2kb is free!!
Been on phone to call centre twice-no joy, couldn't make anybody understand that there is nothing left to delete, and that I have no music, images, etc in gallery - it's all on my memory card. E-mailed nokia support, was told to try sim card in another phone (eh?!)
I have the latest firmware v.05.92, 07.09.06, RM-78. There are no software updates available, and I'm out of my depth even trying to restore factory settings. I got the phone on contract from 3mobile, so am stuck with it.
I took it to a nokia service centre, who say there is a 3-4 week delay on repairs - I can't be that long without my phone, and can't just put the sim in my old (samsung) phone.
I'm appalled at all the posts and problems people are having with nokia phones - I thought they were a brand leader!
I'm also appalled at the customer service so far from nokia.
    Any ideas?

From the Data you gave me, it seems that there are still files in the gallery...
check the size of the following Folders in the gallery (not in the memory card) and move any existing file to the Memory card ...
    Menu >> Gallery >>
    Images: ??
    Video clips: ??
    Music files: ??
    Themes: ??
    Graphics: ??
    Tones: ??
    Recordings: ??
Received files: ?? (make sure to check this one !!)
I'm sure that there are still some files in some of these folders that eating up your memory ...
to avoid storing files in the phone ... First make sure you have a decent memory (your phone can hold up to 2GB miniSD) ... and didicate the phone memory for messages ... Select the memory card for the following :
Camera >> Options >> Settings >> Image and Video Storage >> Memory Card..
Media >> Voice Recorder >> Options >> Select Memory >> Memory Card ..
and for the Received Files Folder (it stores files received by bluetooth, IR, etc) make sure to move the files after to the memory card ...

  • My patience is growing thin...

so i've been having kernel panics since i've had my MBP- the 10.4.7 update cured them for a while, now in the last 2 days they've reappearred, had 3 today!! Tired safe booting, disk repairing multiple times. I had an extra 1G RAM installed by Apple in store should I check that? It shows up in system profiler and in the panic.log. I cannot thin what else is casuing it besides too many rosetta-based apps running? Please throw out all your suggestions...I am very impressed with the performance of my MBP except I don't want it panicing on me all the time.

It may be the RAM too, but it was brand new? I thought it might be something big like the logic board/Airport.
It could be either. New RAM can still be out of spec and cause kernel panics. My guess is it's the Airport-related kernel panic problem that affects a small but significant percentage of MacBook Pros.
Today I'll use my ethernet connection for a few hours and see what happens.
That's definitely a good test. Try doing that for several hours, if possible, so you can provide a good report to Apple when you talk to them. Try using Ethernet and downloading large files, even several at a time.
After that, go back on Airport and do the same. I found that my MacBook Pro would kernel panic pretty quickly if I downloaded many of the files around 100MB on Apple's downloads page, all at once. (Don't install them, of course. Just download them and throw them away afterwards.)
If you consistently get kernel panics on Airport and don't get any when using Ethernet, you can present this information to Apple and they'll know what to do. If this turns out to be your problem, they'll arrange for a logic board repair. (It might take a little prompting from you, though. It helps to be an informed customer.   ;-))
So if I took it to the store they could replace the logic board/airport card in a day? a few days?
There are no guarantees, but my logic board replacement took three business days, including the day they had DHL pick it up on my porch and the day it was returned to my door. Repairs usually take three to five business days total, but sometimes testing can make it take longer, or availability of replacement parts can delay the repair. The more information you provide to the support people you talk to, the better your chances of a quick and painless repair. (I keep logs of what I've tested, for how long, the results of the tests, and my calls to AppleCare.)

  • Any forum where poor technical support/customer care support can be reported?

I have a 6 month old iMac 21.5 inch bought in Pune, India. It is stuck in the reboot loop and based on suggestion here, I called Apple Care and they had the Authorized Support Provider come home and take it away for repairs.
It has been 15 working days now with no resolution in sight. First they started off by suspecting the logic board, so they ordered and replaced that. It didnt stick. Then it was the power supply, ordered, replaced, did not stick. Then something else, and now its the graphics card.
The problem is that this Support Provider does not stock any parts and orders it from China and thus eats up days.
Apple Customer Care (in Ireland) is of no use either. After promising me of an alternative plan (ie, a replacement iMac), they  are back again to making me wait for a few more days?
    Questions:
Does any one know how long Apple waits before it decides that the computer is un-fixable?
Is there any forum - contact number, mail address - where I can go and complain about this inordinate delay in repairs?
When I threatened the Support Provider with taking them to the conusmer court, he has promised to let me know by Friday noon if he can repair it or not.
Does any one have an experience with Apple replacing a computer?
I am at my wits end, and am seeking for forums where my concerns can be addressed.
    Thanks,

    Hello Macpune,
There is a major problem here, one that I, as a user, cannot do more than offer loose guidance.   As you will know, none of us could write on behalf of Apple but as I see it you ...
Bought an Imac (I presume it was sold to you as new despite it's age) from an authorised Apple supplier.    N.B. were the seller to claim it was sold to you as second hand, what would you do?
Bought Applecare protection. perfectly possible with a second hand machine.
And because of this you should be able to obtain the maximum benefits of the Applecare protection.   Which means repair or possible replacement.
At this point you must recognise that Apple may reasonably have doubts about the true background for from pre-June 2011 to today's date puts it outside of its primary warranty.  All the same, the serial number of the machine is traceable.   (Do not quote it in any forum posts)
Did you, by the way, actually link up with red menace07 who was in similar difficulties?    If yours is part of a run of problems through the same re-seller Apple may see things differently ... but neither I or anyone here could anticipate what they may do.   It will be interesting to see what happens.
In terms of help, I'm afraid this is the best I can do for you.   Good luck.

  • No packing instructions with depot return box

The depot return box for my netbook arrived without instructions. It seems pretty straightforward. The computer goes in the plastic sleeve, then into the foam supports at either end. Next, the cord and charger go into the bubble wrap envelope. Finally, the Fed-Ex return label goes over the existing label and I tape it up. Did I do anything to void the warranty?

There are no instructions on the box of any kind. It FedEx dropped it off.
I have put the laptop into the plastic sleave and put the two foam sleaves on either end. It is very securely packed. Do I simply wrap the DC adaptor in the piece of cardboard included in the box and tape it all up? I know how I would go about packing the laptop, I just want to make sure that I don't jeapordize or delay the repair order.

  • Lab Full of Emac Randomly Freezing

Since school year has started back. I have a lab of emacs randomly freezing. Does not appear to be applications specific happens randomly in any app. Have done clean install with no help. Some will freeze as a window starts to open with video breakup lines. Other just freeze completely NO distorted video & NO spinning wheel just frozen until you hold powerbutton and restart.
    Thanks in advance

    cadecruickshank,
You're in for a world of pain... we single users think we have it bad... [sorry - that's not helpful]
Just hazarding a guess - 1.25Ghz eMacs purchased mid 04-05?
Time to check them out for bad capacitors, which are covered under Apple's Repair Program:
    http://www.apple.com/au/support/emac/repairextensionprogram/
To do this, open the inspection hatch and check out the 2 capacitors on the right hand side. If they look like a can of coke after it's been left in the freezer overnight - you have the problem.
Some people are experiencing delays in repair time due to a supply issue in obtaining a new logic board... I'm assuming Apple have had to either destroy or replace the caps on their stockpile of eMac 1.25Ghz logic boards (or else they'd just be giving you another logic board that will go bad in 18 months time).
So that's where the pain comes in... Check for bad caps, get on the phone to Apple and see what they say...

  • Worldwide Warranty doesn't work

My Macbook 2.16, with only five months of use, burned the logicboard alone. I do shutdown, and it never turned back. Simply died.... :_(
As I am in Brazil, sought technical assistance in São Paulo, accepted by the guarantee worldwide. However now makes more than 50 days and the macbook has yet to repair.
I do not know how Apple works on other representatives around the world, but in Brazil has NOT work.

    Hi Soft Reset ...
Yes, the macbook is in an Apple Repair - Macfix (http://www.macfix.com)
I am informed that all parts and equipment that came to Brazil, is dependent on a single company and is not Apple Computer Brasil LTDA. Apple in Brazil has a phone customer support, which accompany each application, and that they are just not finding more excuses for delay of repair.
However much time has passed, much like that Apple USA, providenciasse the support necessary to meet its customers including Brazil.
I know that I live far away, but love Apple, in the last 15 years has never had a disappointment so great that love with a brand.

  • T420s case resonates with the fan

My T420s is three weeks old, and has a rather annoying mechanical resonance in concert with the fan rotation speed. With fan running in normal-high rpm, under an average desktop load, the resonance can be felt on the keyboard, case, etc. And of course it can be heard too, having a characteristic purring sound. Does anyone else have this same problem? I have two memory modules in the computer, could this have anything to do with it?
    Regards,
    Jormaporo
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I also had a similar problem over two weeks ago. The fan devloped a noise similar to DVD drive spinning up as the speed increased. There was also vibration on the bottom of the case where the fan was located.
I called Lenovo support and after put the phone near the fan, the support tech agreed there was a problem and offered to send someone to replace either the fan or the foam the next day. However, I choose to delay the repair for a week as I was going on a trip. The noise did die down to almost normal level after few days and the vibration is gone, so I end up cancelling the repair.
Just give them a call, I’m sure they will help you out.
P.S. Unless the memory sticks are loss (unlikely if the laptop is working), than I don’t think that is the source.
