Delete parts of clips in iMovie Version 10.0

Does anybody know how to delete only a part of a clip, not the entire clip, in iMovie version 10.0?  When I try to delete a part of a clip, the entire clip is deleted.

I'm having the same issue.  Can't trim clips at all.  The directions listed here http://support.apple.com/kb/PH14696?viewlocale=en_US are excatly what I'm trying to do, only when you hit return after dragging the edges to trim the clip, nothing happens at all.  And Alan's suggestion doesn't work for me either, "Split Clip" isn't an option when I right click.  All of these worked in the prvious version of imovie.

  • Question About Deleting Parts Of Clips and iMovie Trash

    Hi,
Why are small deleted portions of clips not moved to the trash, where you can recover them? It looks like if you want to delete small sections of individual clips, those deletions cannot be recovered once the project is saved. Am I missing something?

Hmmm. Something doesn't sound quite right. When I delete a portion of a clip here — after splitting a clip, for example — the deleted portion goes in the iMovie trash. To retrieve the clip I can just drag it from the Trash window back to the Timeline or Clips pane.
That's not how it's working for you? Are you using iMovie 6?
There is another way to retrieve the clip, which relies on iMovie's non-destructive editing feature. It is useful when you've used Direct Trimming to shorten a clip, which does NOT send the deleted portion to the Trash. (There is no clip for the trimmed portion.) It's also useful after you've emptied the iMovie Trash, which removes a split clip, but does NOT remove the clip's source file.
That is to Option-drag the shortened clip to some other location (Option-dragging creates a copy) then select the clip and choose Advanced > Revert Clip to Original. That reverts that clip to its original length. Depending on the editing you've done to the clip, it may be necessary to select the menu command more than once.
Otherwise, I can't think of what might cause it to work differently for you.
Please say how you are creating the clip that is deleted. Is it a split clip?

  • Hallo!!  how can i delete a rejected clip in iMovie 10.0.7?? Or is it not possible??

Hallo!!  how can i delete a rejected clip in iMovie 10.0.7?? Or is it not possible??

You can delete a complete clip which is not in use in any project by right-clicking it and choosing "move to trash".  It won't actually appear in the trash can but will be permanently deleted when you quit iMovie.

  • Trouble deleting only rejected clips after imovie update

When i send rejected clips to the trash, it pulls more of the original video with it.  How can i keep this from happening? Only started with the new Mavericks update.

I've seen one suggestion relating to Revealing the Clip in the Finder. Try this:
Go to the Reject Clips by clicking on the pulldown menu at the bottom where it says Show: (choose Rejected Clips Only). Then <CTRL> click on on of the red striped thumbnails choose Reveal in Finder. When the Finder window launches, your clip will be highlighted. Select it and drag it to the trash.
Quit iMovie, then relaunch it and go back to the Show: (Rejected Clips Only) see if that clip is now missing from the list of Rejected Clips. If this works and your Project file still plays back successfully I would say it's safe to continue deleting as needed. But if you have some problems and the Project has been affected there might be another reason you cannot delete the clips.
iPhoto Videos are not deletable in the traditional iMovie Rejected Clips kind of way. They are under full control and jurisdiciton of iPhoto. And as a result, iMovie is not allowed to do anything other than 'copy' or re-use them in a Project. Deletion of iPhoto Videos in iMovie will not work. So your only real option is to try deleting them from iPhoto instead. So just be aware of where your video clips are located in the iMovie Event Library and everything should be OK.

  • Deleting parts of audio in iMovie '11

    Hi
I'm trying to make a very simple iMovie '11 project from a series of still photos/images with a voiceover audio soundtrack.
However, in the voiceover there are a number of 2 or 3 second of 'quiet time' where the narrator takes a breather. I would like to remove these quiet times from the audio but am not sure how to do this.
I know that I can remove the volume but that still leaves me with the quiet times.
How can I just delete these quiet times from the audio so that it runs seemlessly together?
    Any ideas?

    Hi
Turn on the Audio Wave function and now you can make such adjustments.
    The blue wave button.
Then point and click in this new wave forms under the clips.

  • Deleting part of a clip in event library in imovie '11

    Hi,
i'd like to delete parts of clips in the event library in imovie `11. So not in a movie/project, but in an event!
if i do it the way it worked with imovie 09 (rejecting and than "move to trash")  imovie ´11 moves the whole clip to trash. even if only a part of it was marked as "rejected".
    1. How should i keep my library small in terms of disk space, without deleting the parts of my clips i definitely will never ever use in a movie?
(i have lots of very big clips (e.g. from GoPro cameras) with each about 4 GB)
    2. Why does the way i described above work with imovie 09, but seems not implemented in imovie ´11?
Thanks a lot for your help!

A couple of features might be of interest.
    1) Select your clip. Then, in the top menu bar, select CLIP/Special Effect.../Flash and Hold Last Frame.
This will create a flashbulb effect, and then hold the last frame in the clip still. The flash effect is actually a Fade Through White transition, so you can edit it out if you don't like it.
As a hint, if the frame you want to freeze is not at the end of the clip, drag to create a selection so that there is a yellow border around a range of clips, the last frame of which you want to freeze. Then Edit/Split Clip. The frame you want to freeze is now at the end of the clip.
    2) You might also want to try CLIP/INSTANT REPLAY/25%. You can highlight an action by replaying it in slow motion.

I have a small clip that I am playing with and want to delete it and start over. I am new to this but find it hard to erase my mistakes. Thank You

    Greetings rwj53,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
I understand that you would like to delete a selected clip in iMovie. To accomplish this, please use the instructions for “Move to Trash” listed in the Manage projects and events section of the attached link.

  • Project (movie) not showing up in trash when I delete it from iMovie (version 10.0.4).  Thus, I can't figure out how to permanently delete it from the hard drive.  I'm running out of hard drive space fast!  Any ideas?

I am trying to delete a project (movie) from iMovie (version 10.0.4).  I successfully deleted it but it isn't then showing up in my trash items to delete it there.  Thus, I'm running low on my storage space.  Any ideas?

It's an iMovie Library file that you need to search for. By default iMovie Library files are in the Movies folder.

  • Deleting iphoto clips in imovie

In Imovie, I can see and edit my iphoto videos.  If i delete these iphoto clips within imove, are they deleted completely or do they remain in iphoto?  Thanks so much for your help.

Thank you SO MUCH.  That will explain why, when I have copied an iphoto clip (within imovie) to an imovie event and then deleted the iphoto clip (within imovie), suddenly my hard drive filled up to capacity.  So it sounds like I need to go to iphoto and delete that clip, in order to save space.  This leads me to 2 further questions:
1 - If i have copied the iphoto clip into an imovie event, will it remain in my imovie event if I delete it from iphoto?  I don't want to lose these clips, I just want to tidy up my video clips and would rather keep them in imovie events than iphoto, if thats possible.
2 - If I delete the clip from iphoto but have used some bits of it in an imovie project - will it delete only the unused sections of that clip and where will it store the used clips if I delete the source clip in iphoto?
Hope these questions make sense and cannot thank you enough for helping me.

  • How to delete clips in old Imovie version instructions do not work

How can I delete clips in events in imovie? I get the red line but when i click send to trash nothing happens. Likewise when I press command delete together the clips are not trashed. Just a "beep" Help! My computer is full!

That is to rename the Sections within the template, not the name of the Template in the Template Chooser, and it is greyed out if there are no alternative sections.
It is clumsy but you either go to the Templates folder in your User Library and rename it there, or save it with the new name and then delete the old one.

  • Updated to iMovie version 10.0 Opened it. All my clips and projects were there. Then it crashed. Now no clips no projects. If I try and import them they are dimmed. If I try and 'update projects and events' a dialogue box says no files found.

Have macbook pro 2012, running Maverick. Updated to iMovie version 10.0 Opened it. All my clips and projects were there. Then it crashed. Now no clips no projects. If I try and import them they are dimmed. If I try and 'update projects and events' a dialogue box says no files found.
Have tried restarting computer, no joy. Help!!

The reply from Nerval fixed it. It is very simple and it works.
If you have a lot of Projects and  Events, leave the iMovie running for a long time. I had 160G and it took 4hrs. It is doing it in the background so don't shutdown too quick.
    Thanks Nerval.

  • IMovie has some how deleted my "source clip". What can I do to get it back?, iMovie has some how deleted my "source clip". What can I do to get it back?

Is it possible that you have moved or renamed any of your Event clips through the Finder? If so, iMovie will not be able to find them. The solution is to move them back and change the name back to the original name.
Also, if the clips are on an external drive, make sure that drive is attached.

  • Removing a part in a clip in iMovie '11?

Hello there! I was just finishing up a video, and I noticed a slight mistake in my voicing during my recording of the video. I wanted to remove it, and it was small, but there's no hope. It just deletes the whole clip, making me undo it, and making me clueless. Can someone help so I can get this on the web? Thanks!
    ~AppleFan17

To remove part of a clip, select the frames you want to delete by dragging. Then EDIT/DELETE SELECTION or right-click the selection and choose Delete Selection.
If however, you want to keep the video, but mute the audio for the clip, you can select the frames that you want to mute, and then drag the volume slider in the waveforms view to zero.
Alternatively, you could select the frames you want to mute, then right-click/Split Clip. The open the audio inspector and move the volume slider to zero.
