"dependency cycle detected" warnings when installing nvidia driver

I'm getting two "dependency cycle detected" warnings when installing nvidia driver on a fresh arch system:
xorg-server will be installed before its nvidia-libgl dependency
harfbuzz will be installed before its freetype2 dependency
Is that normal?

It's not 'normal' but if everything is working fine, no need to worry. They're just warnings, not errors.

  • [solved]Dependency cycles detected when installing Arch 2008.06

    Hey guys!
I wanted to reinstall Arch64. But when it comes to install packages the installation fails: "Dependency cycle detected: ** will be installed before its glibc dependency". I tried the core and the ftp install cd. checksums are allright. Normally I would do a pacman -f, but it's in the setup.
    Can anyone help?
    Thanks

It means that these two packages, directly or indirectly, are mutually dependent. Normally pacman installs dependencies of packages before the package itself, but this creates a catch-22 when packages depend on each other. In these cases, pacman is allowed to temporarily ignore (--assume-installed) one of the mutually dependent packages to install the other, as long as it is sure that both of them can be installed within the same pacman invocation. At least that's my understanding.
Great explanation. thanks. Marking as solved.

  • [SOVLED] dependency cycle detected - gcc-libs

does anybody see whats going on here?
    warning: dependency cycle detected:
warning: lib32-gcc-libs will be installed before its gcc-libs-multilib dependency
    looking for inter-conflicts...
warning: removing 'gcc-libs' from target list because it conflicts with 'gcc-libs-multilib'

im trying to upgrade arch, it worked a couple days ago, but the downloads never completed after several tries, i have the 650MB downloads dwindled down to about 300MB left.  after trying to finish the downloads yesterday i got a pacman update warning.  so i updated pacman.  after the pacman update, these problems appeared. Now when i pacman -Syu i get the above error now.
i cant seem to figure out where to go.   i tried to remove a few components to overcome this problem, but i ran into dependency-hell. im reluctant to force remove anything without opinion.
it appears that i need to
    pacman -Rd
one of the mentioned packages in the error message, but im not sure which one.
the only packages that i know that use these gcc-libs that i use are amarok, and deadbeef. did i mess something up when installing these?
also, see this topic, its similar https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=103816

This usually happens when the toolchain gets an update -- multilib lags behind by a day or two. Looks like we just pushed out the the multilib toolchain today, so I'd wait a few hours for your mirror to sync up and then try again.

  • BSOD after installing NVIDIA driver (nvlddmkm.sys error)

Hi, I hope I'm posting this in the right place.
A few days ago I purchased an MSI GS60 044 (970m) laptop with Windows 8 preinstalled on it. I have an intense hatred for Windows 8 so I decided to do a clean install of Windows 7 using a disk I own. Everything was going well until I installed the NVIDIA graphics driver. The computer would run sluggishly and then Blue Screen with an error regarding "nvlddmkm.sys."
I got the drivers from MSI's website and followed the installation order on that page. I even tried downloading the latest driver from NVIDIA's website, but I got the same results.
Is anyone familiar with this issue? Is there anything I can do?
    Thanks!
    - Daniel

I really appreciate the help! I ended up reinstalling windows again and this time before installing the NVIDIA driver I installed the BIOS update that's provided under the "BIOS" tab on the GS60's support page. It's been installed for about 2 hours now with no crashes, so I hope that means it's fixed. I could just be getting lucky though, I'll post again tomorrow with results.
Unfortunately, now my LAN and WLAN drivers have stopped working. When I troubleshoot, windows says that there aren't any drivers detected. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling both the bigfoot and intel drivers but neither are working. I just can't catch a break with this thing. >_<
In the event that I do have to send it to MSI, wouldn't the computer not be covered in their service anymore since I installed a different OS/formatted the original drives? I'm really hoping there isn't a hardware issue since I ordered the laptop brand new off of ebay.
Thanks again for all of the help!

  • Error message when installing nvidia-173xx package

I get an error message when I try to install nvidia-173xx driver:

Looks like you can choose from :
-contact the maintainer to see if you can help with getting it to work with kernel 3.16
    - downgrade the kernel
    - switch to nouveau
Note that there are comments on the aur page that state nvidia-173xx doesn't work with xorg 1.16, so you may have to downgrade more then just the kernel.

  • [solved]display problems after installing nvidia driver

    hi
i have nvidia geforce 8400 gs card, after i uninstalled all other drivers, installed nvidia,nvidia-utils, then nvidia-config,then installed vpdau-video,then restart
i noticed that hardware and deamon checks screen after boot became huge letters as if no driver installed yet, and when i run lxterminal i noticed black window on the top left of the screen exactly the same size as the terminal window, and when i browse using chromium and the page contains flash video, the video window image stays on the screen.

I think current nvidia driver is broken - I have these black windows at some rare situations also (under KDE without effects; no under OpenBox). IIRC, nvidia developers mentioned somewhere in Arch bugs system they are aware of the problem.

  • Blue Screen of Dead when installing Nvidia

Hello everyone, I Have a HP ENVY 15t-j000 and newly formatted because was too slow. When I started to install all the drivers from HP website, everything was running fine and the only driver left to install was the Nvidia GT 740m. I downloaded and installed the Nvidia driver from HP web site, the installation run without problems, I was asked to restarted the computer, but when the computer started, I've logged in and after 1 or 2 minuts I receive a BSOD power state failure (error 0x9F from minidump). I've done a restore to the previous installation, and tryied to install the driver from Nvidia web site, no sucess again (BSOD dpc watch dog violation) Does anyone know how to proceed ? ps: I don't have the recovery partition anymore.

    Hi  ,
Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. It is a great site for information and questions. I have looked into your issue about your HP ENVY 15t-j000 Notebook and issues with Nvidia. I would not install this driver package. I would run the HP Support Assistant. It will install any software and drivers that are needed for your system.
Here is a link to the HP Support Assistant if you need it. Just download and run the application and it will help with the software and drivers on your system at the time of purchase or that need updating. Thanks.

  • Pacman segfault when installing nvidia

ok so i have been trying to reinstall arch linux on my comp for the last couple of days.... was testing some other ditros but got bored so time to come back to arch and so i completed an ftp install and issued pacman -Sy and got synched and then when i tried to pacman -S nvidia (i refuse to run xorg without the nvidia driver for my 6800gs card) i got a segmentation fault.  i thought maybe i screwged the install so i went ahead and reinstalled arch.... no luck.  so now pacman refuses to work untill i reboot.... so i do and then i think alright well i'll just pacman -S xorg and deal with nvidia when its fixed but for whatever reason it seems that xorg in extra is broken.... not all the packages downloaded.... and yes i have tried diferent servers.... i have run arch linux with NO problems in the past, what am i doing wrong? is the nvidia package messed up at the moment and should i download the one off the nvidia site or have i not confgured something right? hope you guys can help!

  • Satellite A660/07U - Problem installing nVidia driver for Win 7 64bit

    A660/07U Windows 7 64bit
To begin with, I need to install this driver as apparently it will solve an issue with the current driver that causes the computer to freeze when booting with an external monitor as the primary display.
I have downloaded the driver install file from the Toshiba web site and it is extracting ok but then when I run the program it just exits immediately without actually installing the drivers.
Device manager in windows doesn't seem to help either, because when I point it to the extracted folders it tells me I already have up-to-date drivers, even though my current driver version is a lower number than the downloaded one.
    Rebooting has made no difference.
    Any ideas/suggestions?
    Thanks in advance

Yes, that is exactly where I got it from and I have tried re-downloading the file but still have had no luck.
I was, however, able to get the driver directly from NVIDIA and it worked fine and has also resolved the issue with the external monitor bootup.
It is still strange that the file provided by Toshiba did not work.

  • Installed Nvidia Driver Problems?

I recently installed Nvidia Ge-Force 5200FX Driver onto my computer and it changes my video bit from 16-Bit to 4-Bit and i cant change back anyone know how i can change it back without uninstalling the driver.

There is one thing you do not seem to have understood so far:  This forum is not a general hardware forum but offers help and advice for MSI Retail products only.  You were using an MSI MS-6590 KT6 Delta mainboard in your other thread.  That is the only reason why we replied to your questions about an unknown video card model in the first place (even though the lack of a video driver for an unknow card has not much to do with your mainboard.
Now you are asking us about some NVIDIA driver issue regarding the "same type of [non-MSI] graphics card" but in a "different computer".  You provided no useful information about your system configuration whatsoever (no information about your operating system, no information about the exact driver version, no information about why you installed an NVIDIA driver even though the unknow video card seems to be an old ATI model, etc.)  I see nothing that relates to any MSI Retail product in the context of your driver question.  I am locking this topic.
If you find one reason why I should re-open your topic and not advise you to look for help in a general hardware forum (there are tons of those out there on the net) write me a PM and tell me what this has to do with MSI Retail products.  I will than gladly unlock this thread.  Until then:
