Deploying Microsoft Office Preferences using ARD

I've been working on deploying MS Office to a lab of iMacs. Mactopia has a really vague explanation of how to deploy preferences using ARD. I've gone through and created several packages that contain the necessary files and folders, permissions set, etc, but don't know how to run the package each time a new user logs into a machine.
Our machines are bound to AD, running MS Office 2008, 10.6, ARD 3.3 and Faronics DeepFreeze.
I've gone through and configured http://www.entourage.mvps.org/exchange/exchangesetupv3.html for Entourage as well as collected the necessary files each user will be designated to use.
So my question is, how to I get my MS Office preferences and Microsoft User Data files deployed for each user that logs in? The package files will deploy to ~/Documents and ~/Library/Preferences.
Please help!! I'm going to lose my mind!!

Credit goes to MS for core script (its to long to post here).
Credit goes to the guy who wrote the cleaner script.  Whoever packaged it and didn't build in silent switches gets zero points.
Please note that this will only work for C2R installs of Office 2013.
This is not true.  There are scrub scripts specific to C2R as well as MSI.
I extracted the scrub vbs from O15CTRRemove.diagcab
This is what worked for me.  Use 7-zip to extract the entire package to a directory.  Then run "OffScrub_015msi.vbs all".

  • Uninstall Microsoft Office 2013 using Invoke-TroubleshootingPack

    Hi,
    I'm deploying an uninstallation package to uninstall Office 2013 using the ingenious Microsoft Fix it (located here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2739501/en-us)
    called O15CTRRemove.
    When running it manually, it removes everything that is related to Microsoft Office 2013 and I am able to install a new Office 2013 without any problems (changing from Office 365 to VL).
    The problem is as follows:
    I need to do this silently on a lot of computers using a deployment tool. I figured out how to use powershell and I'm doing it in the following way:
    Import-Module TroubleshootingPack
    $DIAGOFFRemoveOff2013 = Get-TroubleshootingPack -Path "C:\Deployment\Office2013Uninstall\O15CTRRemove"
    Invoke-TroubleshootingPack -Pack $DIAGOFFRemoveOff2013 -AnswerFile "C:\Deployment\Office2013Uninstall\DIAG_Off_RemoveOff2013.xml" -unattended
    I created the Answerfile DIAG_Off_RemoveOff2013.xml in the following way (according tohttp://blogs.technet.com/b/heyscriptingguy/archive/2011/02/09/use-powershell-troubleshooting-packs-to-diagnose-remote-problems.aspx):
    Get-TroubleshootingPack "C:\Deployment\Office2013Uninstall\O15CTRRemove" -answerfile "C:\Deployment\Office2013Uninstall\DIAG_Off_RemoveOff2013.xml"
    It looks like this:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <Answers Version="1.0" />
    When I run the script it works but for some reason, it doesn't work when I run it as system (my deployment tool runs the script as system, and I've tried it manually like this):
    psexec -i -s cmd
    cmd /C powershell -executionpolicy unrestricted -file "C:\Deployment\Office2013Uninstall\Uninstall_Office2013.ps1"
    It just hangs and I can see in eventviewer that it has run a few troubleshooting packs, that the uninstall of Office is complete but it doesn't continue until I force kill sdiagnhost.exe.
    If I run the script after killing sdiagnhost.exe, it finishes without a problem.
    I have temporarily solved it like this (I run the same job twice, to be sure everything is removed and the second one finishes quickly while the first hangs until the timeout):
    Start-Job -ArgumentList -ScriptBlock {
     $DIR = "C:\Deployment\Office2013Uninstall"
     Import-Module TroubleshootingPack
     $DIAGOFFRemoveOff2013 = Get-TroubleshootingPack -Path "${DIR}\O15CTRRemove"
     Invoke-TroubleshootingPack -Pack $DIAGOFFRemoveOff2013 -AnswerFile "${DIR}\DIAG_Off_RemoveOff2013.xml" -unattended
    Get-Job | Wait-Job -Timeout 1200
    Get-Job | Receive-Job
    Get-Job | Remove-Job -Force
    Start-Job -ArgumentList -ScriptBlock {
     $DIR = "C:\Deployment\Office2013Uninstall"
     Import-Module TroubleshootingPack
     $DIAGOFFRemoveOff2013 = Get-TroubleshootingPack -Path "${DIR}\O15CTRRemove"
     Invoke-TroubleshootingPack -Pack $DIAGOFFRemoveOff2013 -AnswerFile "${DIR}\DIAG_Off_RemoveOff2013.xml" -unattended
    Get-Job | Wait-Job -Timeout 1200
    Get-Job | Receive-Job
    Get-Job | Remove-Job -Force
    I am thinking that there is some kind of dialogue questions that I need to get into the answer file, but I have no idea how to do it.
    Any help is appreciated!
    Best regards,
    Simon

  • Unix command to update Microsoft Office 2008 via ARD

    I'm looking for a unix command I can send via ARD to update Microsoft Office 2008. It just needs to install all updates and then restart. Kinda like apple's software update one: softwareupdate -i -a; shutdown -r now

    Why go through all the trouble of trying to do it in Unix.  Apple and Microsoft made it a LOT easier.
    Just download the update from Mactopia
    Open the .dmg
    (for convience and ability to have it stored) Drag the Update from the Microsoft folder that opens up and put the update on your desktop
    In ARD Select what computer(s) you want to install the update in
    Use ARD Install function to install the update
    Go have a cup of coffee and a donut while ARD does the install.
    You do not even have to do a restart.  Microsoft uses a different icon for the update but it still is a package file operation.

  • After migration to new iMac - problems with Microsoft office 2008 using multiple users

    I migrated my data from my old Imac to my new Imac.  On the new Imac I created multiple logins for my kids.  My microsoft office 2008 programs will not open.  I keep getting the "Customer Experience Improvement Program" screen which cycles through, checks for update then closes never allowowing me to access the program.  Please help!!

    Reference your first post - I download and use dmg files, so either I'm lucky or they are supported.
    I would try the disk reinstall since at this point there doesn't seem to be many options.
    Do you have a backup? You could restore the Microsoft Office 2008 folder.

  • Microsoft Office when using OS X 10.7 or higher??

    Are there any apps that work well so I can work from home using Microsoft office from my work?

    Fitznick wrote:
    I figured it out. I had an older version I could not update so will have to purchase 2011 version. Unfortunately most of my work from my job is in publisher, excel and word...
    Unfortunate indeed, Word and Excel are not a problem but there is no equivalent to Publisher on  Mac (not on Windows either, except for Publisher itself) and I know of no other program that can open a Publisher file. If you have to use Publisher you are going to need Windows.

  • Uninstall Microsoft Office 2010 using intune

    Has anyone successfully uninstalled Office 2010 using Intune to push the command?
    I just upgraded all users to 2013 but would like to remove the old office.
    Thanks

    I know this is very old but I’m trying to clean up old posts. Did you ever solve this? If so it would be good if you could post the solution to assist others. If not, at this
    stage, as nobody has answered, I would recommend that you call Intune support if the issue still exists.
    You will find your local Intune support number here

  • Changing a Quicktime preference using ARD

    I work in an elementary school and manage lots of machines. I need to change a Quicktime preference for my Student user. This user does not have rights to system preferences and it will be very time consuming to change this on each machine. I'm looking for a set of commands that would allow me to do this via ARD.
    What I need it to do is to go into the Advanced tab of the Quicktime Preference and check the box that says Enable Flash.
    Can anyone out there help?
    Thanks in advance if you can!

    Hi Tim,
    >>However, if I remove the computer from the domain, the username reverts back to the previous one and the password seems to get corrupted and is neither the new one or the old one.
    How is it going? I agree with Idan that we can also try to use the setting
    Accounts: Rename administrator account to change the name of administrator to see if the issue persists.
    Regarding the deprecation of password changing function of GPP, this is mainly due to security concern that GPP stores password in Sysvol which is accessible to all domain users.
    If the issue persists or you need further help, please don't hesitate to let us know.

  • Solution manager requires Microsoft office products use language ENGLISH

    In config guide for Solman SP6 section 3.1.2, there is a requirement that MS office products must have language setting EN.
    Many of our customers use their own MS Office products with other language settings than EN.
    Is this really a requirement or what happens if any user does not have language setting EN active in her/his MS office product? Which services in SolMan does not work anymore?
    br: Kimmo

    Solution manager language is english and in SAP business solution system (ERP2005) language is Finnish (=Finland). English and Finnish are in same code page. Customization in ERP should be created in Finnish language.
    Is there some limitations if languages are different or why did you asked?
    Regarding problems in config guide creation, macros in MS products are language dependent? like methodnames macro_execute() (EN) vs. macro_ausfuehren() (DE)? And if current language in MS product is other than EN, the macros used in config guide don't work?

    According to your description, do you want to add text vertically into Page Header/Footer? I wrote a sample  for you.

    oWord = new Microsoft.Office.Interop.Word.Application();
    oWord.Visible = true;
    oDoc = oWord.Documents.Add(ref oMissing, ref oMissing, ref oMissing, ref oMissing);
    String HeaderText = "Hello everyone!";
    WdParagraphAlignment wdAlign = WdParagraphAlignment.wdAlignParagraphCenter;
    AddHeader1(oWord, HeaderText, wdAlign);
    private static void AddHeader1(Application WordApp, string HeaderText, WdParagraphAlignment wdAlign)

  • Incorect product key using in Microsoft Office

    I recently purchased a Toshiba laptop with Windows Vista Premium installed.
    However whenever I try to verify my product key to go on Microsoft Office its saying its incorrect but its on the bottom of my laptop and I have checked it countless times.
    Does anyone no what is wrong? Is there another product key in the manual?

    Hello guys
    Preinstalled office is a trial version. Make connection to the Internet and start Office. As you can see on the shortcut name it is 60 days trial version only.
    On the first page you can see follow:
    *CLICK HERE TO REQUEST YOUR ACTIVATION KEY ONLINE*
    Click on step 1 and you will get the key. Click on step 2 and when Office starts enter key you got in step 1. Thats all!
    If you want to *BUY* Microsoft Office and use it as *FULL* version choose second option (the right tab) in this activation assistant.
    Is everything clear now? ;)

  • Detection Methods for Microsoft Office

    Hi Guys
    It seems the most common detection method for deploying Microsoft Office (in particular for me Office 365 pro plus) is the existence of 'Office15' in %program files%\Microsoft Office 15\
    However my concern is that what if some other Office 2013 product has created this folder?
    Has anyone used a differnet detection method other than the existence of the folders?
    thanks for your help!

    That is the best way...
    If the condition of Office 2013 components already being installed is met (Folder location exists) just use a custom .msp (instead of the setup.exe with custom.msp) adminfile to alter their installation and enable the components they are required
    to have.
    Office 365 Pro Plus does not use MSPs the way Office 2013 does so this isn't really applicable -- in fact, it installs Office in a completely different way than Office 2013 does so can't be detected the same way. The registry value noted is the best path
    IMO.

  • HT1692 Sync multiple Ical calendarsvone way to microsoft office outlook

    I would like to sync multiple ical calendars one way to microsoft office outlook

    I use Google Calendar Sync to sync my work Outlook calendar to a gmail account, then sync that to my iPhone.  It works well for me for the past couple of years.
    As far as mail itself, just ask your it folks for settings for remote access to your exchange account, and then set it up on the phone.
    As far as working with Office docs, to be able to actually edit them and such, look in the app store for DocsToGo or QuickOffice - they both are good but each has it's pros and cons, so on balance it's down to mere preference i think.
