Deployment and client settings issue
I have a VDI collection that I no longer want SCCM to deliver deployments too. All deplyments are user targeted by WMI query for the relevant AD Group.
I would still like use SCCM for remote control and software metering. So I have configure the following settings for the client and targeted the VDI collection.
However when I log onto VDI deployments are still processed and applications are being installed when they shouldn’t.
Any thoughts?
Thank you
Nick
Just to add a comment, un-checking a page in the client settings doesn't mean you've disabled something, it just means that that specific client settings package has no setting for those options and targeted clients will receive the settings from elsewhere
(typically the default client settings package but that depends on what you all have set up) but even then, many settings have default settings on the clients themselves. This is very similar to Group Policy: not configured doesn't mean don't do anything,
it just means do the default.

WSUS server and client configuration issues
I just inherited WSUS from my predecessor (it was turned off because of a full disk) so I’m still learning how to use it. Turning it back on I changed where updates should come from, they were stored locally and now I’m pulling them down off of the Microsoft
Update location. What I’m seeing is that I have a bunch of computers that WSUS “sees” but are showing “Failed or Needed” status. Unless I visit each machine and manually do the updates this status does not change. Additionally I have some client computers
(Windows 7) that are not showing up as managed by WSUS. If I reading this right I’m running version Update Services 6.2.9200.16384 on Management Console 3.0 Version 6.2 (build 9200) on Windows Server 2012.
How can I force WSUS to automatically update the “Failed and Needed” devices?
How can I get those clients that are not being managed by WSUS to be managed?
Some of the things that I have done so far on the server and clients are:
Create a GPO (see attached for WSUS)
wuauclt
/detectnow
wuauclt /reportnow
wuauclt.exe /detectnow
gpupdate /force after
modifying the GPO
I even ran the SolarWinds WSUS diagnostic (as a non-administrator) and got this as the output:
# Solarwinds® Diagnostic Tool for the WSUS Agent # 1/23/2015
Machine state
User rights: User does not have administrative rights (Administrator rights are not available)
Update service status: Running
Background Intelligent Transfer service status:

OS Version: Windows 8.1 Pro
Windows update agent version: 7.9.9600.17489 (WU Agent is OK)
Windows Update Agent configuration settings
Automatic Update: Enabled
Options: Automatically download and notify of installation
Use WSUS Server: Not found (There is no such key)
Windows Update Server: Not found (There is no such key)
Windows Update Status Server: Not found (There is no such key)
WSUS URLs are identical: Values are empty
WSUS Server Connectivity -- Connectivity check is impossible
So, my questions are:
What tool do I use to configure the client machine?
How do I get WSUS to update my clients?
Thanks
SamSteven,
I'm pretty sure that this is not the right forum to discuss this in but just so we can close this case.
On my computer I ran the command gpupdate /force I
then rebooted my computer to make sure that the group policy would be updated. The first screen shot is from my domain controller and the second is from my computer. As you can see the Domain Controller has the correct settings but the local machine doesn't.
Other parts of the DC GPO settings have worked so I'm somewhat comfortable that it is being propagated properly. -
Timezones and client/server issue
We have a client process which runs on Windows PCs which are scattered among different timezones. These clients send data periodically to a server.
The data includes timestamps indicating when certain events happened on each client PC. We need to know the timezone for each PC so that we can display those timestamps (stored on the server in GMT) in the timezone of each PC.
The tricky bit: the clients are in C++ and the server is in Java. We cannot assume a JRE is installed on the clients.
Our C++ client code can get the Windows timezone name as a string and pass that to our Java server code. What isn't obvious is how to translate that string to a Java TimeZone object. For example, the Windows string "Central Standard Time" maps to the Java TimeZone ID String "America/Chicago".
I've done enough research to discover that the (relatively new) jre/lib/tzmappings file contains exactly these mappings. But it appears that the code which relies on that file is quite "under the hood" in java -- most likely in the unpublished sun.util.calendar package.
Does anyone know of a way to map an O/S-specific timezone string to a Java TimeZone object? I know I can write my own code to read the tzmappings file myself, but that file explicitly states that "No applications should depend on this file in any form." I'd prefer a kosher solution.
All ideas, suggestions, thoughts, links, etc. appreciated. Thank you! Thanks for the comments, everyone. Some responses:
It seems the exact opposite to me. Relying on yourown file rather
than using a file that explictly says "Don't useme!" seems less brittle.
Both are brittle. By relying on the "one built into
Java" I can rely on timezone additions and changes
made by Sun without doing anything. Otherwise I have
to be responsible for maintaining mine over time,
noticing (for example) whenever Sun updates theirs
and then updating and re-releasing mine.
You either are going to be mixing data or not.Can you clarify for me what you mean by "mixing
data"?
We were planning to store all timestamps in the
database in GMT with a timezone code. This allows
queries to be based on normalized time (all use GMT),
yet also allows us to know when an event happened in
"local time" (on the PC where the event occurred) by
converting the GMT value using the timezone code. There is a difference between doing a query and displaying the data.
In terms of the query you don't need to access anything (special files.) You do the query in SQL, nothing more.
In terms of displaying the data you have a number of choices.
1. Don't display the time at all.
2. Display it in reference to a specific timezone.
3. Display each time in reference to the timezone that originated it.
The last choice is not usable for users when the data is mixed in one display.
>
it is going to be a very large mistake to attemptto display each time in
a different timezone (without categorizing it someother way.) It will be
non-sensical to the users. What about when the clients ARE in various timezones?
We have GUI screens and reports which show events on
PCs in various continents. For example, showing:
Again you are going to be doing one of the following.
1. Data that is relative to them only.
2. Data from all zones.
If the first then just display the time relative to them in the first place (use the default for the VM.)
If the second then you are back to the problem that I discussed above.
MachineA 09:01 Service Started
MachineA 10:32 Service Stopped
MachineB 10:33 Service Stopped
makes it look like the events (Service Stopped)
happened about a minute apart on MachineA and
MachineB. But they didn't, in this example, because
the machines are in two different timezones. A user
can't tell that above. But this clarifies it:
MachineA 09:01 PST Service Started
MachineA 10:32 PST Service Stopped
MachineB 10:33 EST Service StoppedNote that I am not suggesting that you do not store your data in an absolute sense.
But storage and display are two different things. And your example is flawed unless your database data is flawed.
For example if you store the time in the database as GMT then the only way you can get case 1 is if you use the local timezone for each and then don't display the timezone.
>
In fact, the service stopped on MachineB before
MachineA.
The question begging to be asked is: what does the
user expect to see? A list of events sorted relative
to "wall time" (shown above), or a list sorted by
absolute time? The latter looks like this:I think you will find that most users expect time to be relative to a certain timezone when times from different timezones are mixed in the same display.
If grouped by timezone then they will accept timezone relative times even when there are different view with different timezones. -
File structure access and default settings issues
Hello there,
I have a MBP running 10.6.6
I noticed that, in the get info window for all my folders and files on the mac, at the bottom it has three users: me, staff, and everyone. And by default it seems to grant all users read rights.
I have only two users set up on my mac, me and my daughter. My mac does connect to my business network but i have never set up a "staff" user.
I would like all of my files, anything I create or import or otherwise manage while logged in as me to be viewable only by me.
Is there a way to set this as a default?
thank you in advance
MarcPosix permissions have three entities that permissions are granted for, owner, group, and others.
On those three entities, you can have read, write, and execute permissions. The Mac OS X GUI calls others everyone. Take a look at [this article|http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2963]
Staff is the default group a user is placed into.
Others can read your home folder so that they can read the Sites folder and the Public folder. All the other folders should only have read privileges for the owner (you). When you create a file/folder, it inherits the permissions of the enclosing folder. So, if you create a new folder inside your home folder, it will automatically have read permissions for others. If you create a folder inside one of the default folders in home, it will only be readable by you.
You can change the permissions on those folders you create right inside the home folder so that others cannot read them. -
Contact and Mail settings issue ?
Cannot open Contacts anymore after iOS5 upgrade. When I try to set Mail and Contact it crashes to the main screen. I did a complete restore but the problem is still there. icloud is not activated.
Also, when I try to sync the contacts with my computer, I get a message sayng that Contact is being used and cannot be accessed. Any idea on how to resolve this?I actually discovered that the fix for the iPhone calendar not syncing correctly was either a recent MS update (We are using Exchange 2003) and or adjustment to Sites and Services in AD. So my fix above was not the fix after all. Some iPhone users during the last two weeks all of a sudden noticed their calendars were syncing and events were filled in.
From our Windows IT Admin when I asked them what they did:
“We ran Microsoft updates weekend before last, and we adjusted the Sites and Services part of AD so that our Domain Controllers are associated with their correct location (this change rendered RPC over HTTPS inoperable (it worked about 50% of the time prior to this change, based on which DC you authenticated against)).” -
About maintenance windows and client restart settings
Scenario:
I have an application which is configured so that ConfigMgr Client will force a restart after the installation. This application is going to be deployed to a collection of computers which are also members of another collection that has maintenance window
of 3 hours configured. The default client settings for all the computers have been configured so that users are notified about possible restart for 1440 minutes (24h).
When the deployment is made:
If there are logged on users (on the desktop or locked screen), will the software just install in the 3 hour maintenance window and notify the user about the reboot for 24h after the installation?
If there are not logged on users will it install and reboot the computer?
How this kind of thing should be configured so that the computers will reboot in the maintenance window if they automatically do not with these settings (if or if not there are logged on users on the computers) ?So I tested this:
User logged on during the MW -> Software installation starts at the maintenance window but asks for the reboot from the user so no go here
User not logged on during the MW -> Software installs and reboots straight away
Solution I'm thinking:
Client Settings Collection that includes all the Maintenance Window Collections and I shall deploy different Client settings (where the reboot time is less than the actual MW) to that collection. This could be also handled with "Install only when user is
not logged on" for the application's deployment type but then again I don't think you can do that kind of setting for software updates or do you? -
Hi,
I have a Default Client Settings and a Custom Device Client Settings.
Custom Device Client Settings is deployed only to a collection named "test" and default client setting is not deployed to any collections at all. I enabled hardware inventory in Custom Device Client Settings to see some reports regarding installed
Programs on computers which are in test collection. I was expecting to see computers only from test collection but I see computers which are not in test collection. If we dont deploy any client settings to a collection, do that collection get default client
settings?
Yavuz Selim AtmacaCorrect. Default Client Settings are by default applied to clients.

Client Install Issue - SCCM 2012 R2 - Manual Deploy Installed ok
Hello, I have sccm 2012 configured with 2,000 machine approx. It is been used mainly as a Software Deployment tool for now. On checking a recent IE10 upgrade, I noticed that there is a number of machines that do not have the client installed (and thus did
not upgrade IE). I picked 1 machine, searched in SCCM - had no client. I checked all relevant settings:
Boundary for Client in question - ok
Local Client Settings (ip,dns,no firewall, ping sccm ok and vice versa etc).
Once i right clicked to deploy the client, it installed no problem. I checked the ccmsetup log file and the only info it had was from the time that the client was manually deployed (I will attach the log below anyway). I am really puzzled as to why the client
did not install and if this is the issue why IE is not upgrading (it is hard to pinpoint as there are 250 sites approx). The automatic install task works no problem on other machines once the machine goes online.
Any help, would be great. Here is the log (I am fairly new to SCCM btw):

FlexConnect AP Deployment- Clients having issues with DHCP
I have 7 2602I access points deployed and operating in FlexConnect. We are doing both local switching and local authentication. These AP's are in a FlexConnect Group with local Radius server defined as the primary server in the Flex Group. This has been working for a few days. The vlan these users are getting DHCP is local and there is a local DHCP server. There is also a backup DHCP server at the central site.
We are beginning to get reports of users having problems connecitng to wireless. Authentications asre successful, but when I look at the WLC, I notice they are not getting an IP address. They either show 0.0.0.0, or the default address 169.254.12.2. Some are connecting, and some do not. This issue is very intermittent. I will also add, this location does have periods of high latency, hence the reason we are doing local switching/local auth. This client eventually got an IP address, but it took a while.
We never had any issues unitl we deployed in Flex mode. I could switch these Ap's back to local mode(central switch/central auth) and this problem would never occur. Any ideas? Thanks.I agree that in local auth mode the WLC does not learn as much info, but if you check learn IP address under the WLAN it will learn it and can be seen from monitor clients.
Although authentications are successful, I have not ruled out some sort of local auth issue.
One other thing to note, we got a debug client and the first dhcp request went to the local dhcp server, then a request to the backup dhcp at HQ. however the dhcp request was fulfilled by the local dhcp server. The local server appears to be working correctly, and there are plenty of addresses available.

APP V 5.0 configuration with SCCM and APP V Client Settings
Hi All
If some one is already worked on APP V 5.0 server and client setup kindly provide me complete details of APP V 5,0 sp2 installation instructions of client and management server, publishing and SQL server. I have a requirement of to publish the application
through APP V 5.0 management server to citrix server. Our envrionment is based on citrix. So I need a clear information of setting up the server and publishing the app v client on citrix server.
End to End details. We have 140 citrix servers in future mode here is the requirement. In the current environment we have 80 citrix server and we have one admin security group and another one is user security group. In the User security group we had added all
the domain users and publishing to the citrix servers.
Can we configure SCCM with citrix server?
Example : We need to publish one single application (APP v 5.0) in All the citrix servers in single instance.
If yes possible then what would be procedure to configure and what would be app v client settings.

2008r2 RDS Copy / Paste issue between remote app and client
I am running a 2008r2 Remote App server with Win7/XP(sp3) clients. All devices are up to date on current service packs and patches. I can open RDWeb applications and paste between other RDWeb applications, but cannot paste from RDWeb to local
applications. I can also paste between various locally running applications, but not from a local application to an RDWeb application. Each machine is maintaining it's own paste buffer, but not exchanging between the server and local machine.
I have tried using different applications on both local and remote app, with the same results (Word, excel, notepad).
I have verified the client and server settings are set to allow printer and clipboard resources, and have verified that there are no GPO's applied to either the server or client.
I have tried to include as much relative information as I can, please feel free to ask any questions and I will do my best to get back to you as quickly as possible.
Any help resolving this is most appreciated!
SeanHi Sean,
I wish most of the posters would be as detailed as you are. Good troubleshooting! :)
Two things to try:
1) when you connect DIRECTLY to the server via MSTSC and set a checkbox in the OPTIONS/Local Resources - to share Clipboard - do you then get the Copy paste working?
IF SO
2) Then please make sure that the Published applications - RemoteApp - have an additional line (Custom RDP settings) in properties (you miht need to recreate the RemoteApp's
redirectclipboard:i:1
then it should work.

Hello all,
I have a multi-tenant environment in SharePoint 2010 server. Different tenants are hosted by one web app.
One content source has been created to crawl the all shared environment. (the only URL added in the content source settings = URL of the
web app)
Crawl everything under the hostname for each start address has been selected when creating this content source.
Now I have created a new tenant hosted by the same web app. For this new tenant I want to have a different crawl schedule. Simple , I just create a new content source and add the host URL of this tenant. With the same settings has the other content source.
After having started a full crawl I get 0 success and 1 warning : “This URL is part of a host header SharePoint deployment and the search application is not configured to crawl
individual host header sites. This will be crawled as a part of the host header Web application if configured as a start address.”
The first content source is well crawling the new tenant freshly created. Could you tell me where I’m wrong?
Thanks in advance
Regards
BaldoBaldo,
In the configuration that you described you now have 2 content sources set to crawl the same content. If you have a content source with a start address of http://servername/ then it is going to crawl everything past that address. If you are now changing
the crawl schedule based on the individual site collections, you will need to move your start addresses further down the URL.
For Example:
1st Content Source:
http://servername/ as a start address would now become
http://servername/site1
http://servername/site2
2nd Content Source:
http://servername/site3
Also remember that all crawling must happen on the default zone. If you are trying to crawl a zone that the web application has been extended into, that will not work.

Can Apple Configurator deploy and modify Apple TV iOS 6.0 settings? For instance, what if I wanted to submit a 'reset all settings' command, but not a 'factory restore'?
Did you follow the instructions here:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4367
Pay attention to differences in power connection depending on whether or not you have AppleTV2 or AppleTV 3.
Also some microUSB leads don't seem to work - try another if you can. Disconnect superfluous USB device/hubs too if possible.

Question
I have one problem and I think it is a settings issue. When I google the web I get results. Now, I visited some website and then I want to return to my search results and pick another search result. And there is a problem: I don't have any markers (diffrent link colour for visited sites in IE) that would help me to distinguish visited and not visited sites. Why start a new and very similar thread to your other one which you have not responded to (have you read the replies?)
I suggest that no response is made to this duplicate thread. -
"package" ARD and VNC client settings?
Hi-
I work in a school, and manage @ 1,100 student iBooks. I'm trying to figure out how to create a package that performs the same functions as the "Change Client Settings" feature under the "Manage" Menu. We use external HD's to reimage the computers, and add packages to this HD that are installed post flight. Right now I have to do the reimaging, then use the "Change Client Settings Feature" seperately, then finally run a package that pushes out the VNC password, (com.apple.VNCSettings.txt) that is in the /Library/Preferences folder.
We set up the computers so VNC is enabled, and the teacher account on the machine can use ARD.
Any thoughts, ideas, or it can't be done's would be great.
Thanks!
Jim
Mostly iBook G4's and G'3's Mac OS X (10.4.7) I use a MacMini w/ ARD 3.1 AdminI have found that reverse DNS entries, especially when they are wrong, can really mess things up. If you haven't already, in your ARD scanner windows, right-click and add the "DNS Name" column, and adjust the columns so you can see it. Whenever you have problems connecting in ARD, that's always a quick thing you can check. If the DNS name does not match your computer name, you'll have problems.
I don't think you gave enough detail of what is and isn't working, but in general, you can try connecting both with dns names and IP addresses, and connecting to Macs sometimes works better by putting their name as macname.local instead of macname.yourdomain.com.
If you try to connect with VNC via IP address, and the IP addresses on your servers are static (should be), and it doesn't work, it very likely could be a firewall setting. Even if you have the firewall off or ports open, you'll want to run a port scan against the server in question to test what truly is open.
This is all general stuff. Post something more specific if none of this helps (detail of OS versions, programs used, ports set open, any error messages, etc).
Good luck
