I'm thinking, how to design the application so that it really offers something different from the usual mode.
If you made an application for the 21st century, which is different from others, how should it be organized ?
I want to offer something really different, so I'm interested in your ideas ...

Lightroom Mobile allows you to share collections between your computer and your iOS devices. How about computer to computer?

If I edit on my computer, the edit shows up on my iPad and edits I make on my iPad show up on my computer. Do they allow you to share the same between two computers? I have used the work around of exporting as a catalog, but that is a pain and must be done each time I move from one computer to the other. I usually don't know when I am going to be using one or the other. My collections are rather large and it takes a long time to export them as a catalog and more time to transfer them and more time still to import them. I wish they would allow a shared catalog or collection, so multiple computers, such as a desktop and notebook could work seamlessly together on the same images. I would like to be able to edit on one and have the changes reflected on the other. My desktop is far more powerful than my notebook and has 4 times the screen to work on. I prefer to use it for editing, but as a landscape photographer, I travel all over for weeks at a time and so I have plenty of time to work on the road. If they have a way for me to do it back and forth with a computer and an iOS device, I don't see why they can't make it happen for computer to computer. The export collection as a catalog really is not a solution. If they don't allow computer to computer, has anyone tried going from one computer to an iOS device and then to a different computer? In other words, using the iPad as a middle man between desktop and notebook?

This would be great but it isn't possible at the moment. You can't use the iOS device as the middle man as you propose. As soon as you uncouple one desktop you lose the cloud images and it will only sync with one Mac or Windows machine at a time. Undoubtedly this has to do with the use of the lossy dng for the files. On the desktop machine you are going to expect full resolution images which would take exponentially more storage on the cloud servers than the heavily downsized lossy compression dng files that are used now. 30MB raw originals are scaled down to a 1MB smart preview dng which is what is uploaded to the "cloud." On the iPad it doesn't matter much that you get very low resolution and lossy compression as you can still do some minor editing, but on your desktop you don't want to only have files like that. Syncing full res files over the cloud is going to be quite slow and is going to be quite expensive for Adobe, which is likely why we don't have it yet.

If she's forgotten the passcode then you will need to connect the phone to the computer that it's normally synced to and you should then be able to reset the phone and restore/re-sync the content to it (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1212) - you may need to put the phone into recovery mode in order to be able to reset it : http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1808
If you do it via a different computer then :
If you restore on a different computer that was never synced with the device, you will be able to unlock the device for use and remove the passcode, but your data will not be present.

Hmm, what about adding some other free DNS services, and a bit more general info, like what it is about, for the people that don't know what DNS stands for? In its current form it looks like a sort of advertisement for that site and it doesn't add any additional info beyond their FAQ.

Using single repository for Customer and Vendor

Hi All
Has anyone worked in scenario where a single repository was used to store both Customer and Vendor records? The source and Target systems are SAP ECC and MDM will have both Basic as well as contextual data.
I would like to know the likely challenges. Anyone who has worked on similar grounds can please share his viewpoints.

Hi Ravi,
As you want to manage both Cutomer and Vendor data in MDM you need to consider the following points:
- If you are seeing the Customer and Vendor master as a combiantion satisfying some common criteria,then you can go about using the SAP delieverd Business partner rep which is designed keeping the ECC customer and Vendor details to an extent.You can unarchieve the BP rep in MDM and have a look at its data modelling if it serves your purpose.
- As of MDM 5.5 we do not have provision of holding two master records in a single rep as we can use only 1 main table.So if you want to fit in your customer and vendor masters in one rep you will have to accomodate the combined fields under a single rep with proper data modelling.
- You need to store your two masters in two separate rep and perform data modelling in such a way that your one rep hold those common fields which you wish to use for finding duplicates as mentioned in your above req and then store this information with the complete rest in a dfferent rep.So its a 2 rep concept as possible with teh current MDM version.
- I am not very sure of this method but i think we have a provision of calling and linking data from two rep and display them as one to work upon them through EP.

I have been trying to load an application to my BB 9000 since a monday and getting this error "This application is not compatible with your device and cannot be loaded".
As evident, I am new to BlackBerry development and got to port an existing J2ME project on BB 9000.
To load application I am using
- BB Dektop software 5 (latest)
- BB Device Software 4.6 is installed (which is the version of BB 9000 as well)
I am able to load sample JDE 4.6 applications but I build my project through same JDE and through eclipse (JDE compoment 4.6.0.19) as well but couldn't load it,
I even signed my app since I am using net.rim.device.api.servicebook api which requries signing.
Can someone please explain me
1) why this error occurs in first place
2) how to setup right envioroment to load an application on a given BB handset (BB 9000 vodafon India to be specific)
3) How would manage this process on a single machine if I have 4-5 different BB handsets.
I shall be thanful for any logical pointer to solution to these problems.

The main problem with your genrated ALX file. I think in your ALX file contains <fileset Java="1.49" _blackberryVersion="[5.0.0)"> TAG and remove the _blackberryVersion attribute. Then it will work.

You are right, but how could i send it to Apple? when the phone company first replaced my iphone they had in stock alots of iphones and they just sent mine back to Apple and gave me a new one, so all i did is to give them my phone, but now how could i sent it to Apple? and i cant send it by myself, and the store wont do that, its a lost for them.. so sending it to Apple wasnt an option from the begining.
and for the record, i dont think the store where i bought it is an authorized shop.. its just a store who boughts phone's from Apple in a low price and sells it in much more money..

Sorry to hear that. I understand your frustration and I hope they send back a better working N78-3.
Myself, I count myself lucky. Everything works perfectly for me right now...email, bluetooth, maps, gps, 3rd party apps, battery life, 3G, wifi, etc. etc.
The only issue I've been having is the dreaded reboots but I believe that may have to do with 3rd party apps. I recently uninstalled Google Search app from my N78 and since then it hasn't rebooted or shown any issues. This seems odd at first but makes sense if you think about the fact that the Google Search app loads itself into memory and runs in the background at all times.
I did this this past Tuesday night and so far no reboots, crashes or any problems. I'm sure I just jinxed myself but I've been using it heavily over the last few days with no issues. Prior to this, it would usually reboot every 2 days. If it doesn't reboot for another few days I'll be happy.
I would normally not stand for this but I just love the phone and if I got something else it'd probably be the iPhone 3G which has perhaps more software bugs and issues than the N78-3!!

- If it is a custom DataSource, you must have created this custom DataSource also.
- If it is the default DataSource, you shouldn't have this problem in general...

for connecting to OPC, you can simply use Datasocket. If you're designing a larger system, then you might want to have a look at LabVIEW Datalogging and Supervisory Control, which prior to LabVIEW 8.0 runs with a tag engine to connect to the various external data sources, including OPC, and then you write your code to talk to the tag engine. Direct Customer and Vendor Creation

I am looking for a way/approach using which a customer or a vendor can be created directly without the need of a Business Partner setup in the system.
This question pertains to SAP MDG 6.1

I agree with Ajithkumar Krishnakumar . In a hub approach, you could replicate only the customer and vendor records without the BP (you will have to build this as out-of-the-box replication will replicate the BP).
Another solution will be to build a completely custom data model. This means that you will have to build all the access classes, checks and validations, etc.
I understand that there are many challenges when dealing with the BP object within the MDG context (I'm dealing with these challenges on daily basis). However, it would be a worthwhile investment to try to learn how BP works instead of fighting it as this will help you and your client in the long-run as many applications use the BP functionality.

Illustrator is not working as it should...
I want them to compare the original size and date of creation with what I have installed on my computer... I have installed several times with my original CD and I tried once downloading the files from the adobe site (using my own license). I suspect the files has been modified or renamed on my laptop by an external unauthorized user causing the malfunction of the application.
Customer services does not support CS3 anymore and the updates / patches in the adobe site does not solve the problem... They redirect me to the forums for support...
Presently, my problem is that after creating a swatch and drag it to the swatch panel, it does not fill as it should a new form... Now, after deactivating and activating my license the swatch seems to fill the new form but when the filter that the swatch has is persistence in the next filling object created even though a different color is being used as a fill (X)... Help in the creation of a swatch over the internet just complicate the issue.
That's why I would like to know whether updates on my product are being received or files are being replaced without my knowledge...

Object oriented design problem concerning abstract classes and interfaces

I have an abstract class (class A) that takes care of database connections. It cannot be made into an interface as other classes extend it and all these other classes require the functionality in the methods it has (i.e. I cannot make all the methods abstract and then make this class an interface).
I have a class that contains data (Customer class) that I will create from the data I extract from the database. This class will also be created by the User and submitted to the database portion of the program. The Customer class has functionality in its methods which is required by the rest of the program (i.e. I cannot make all the methods abstract and then make this class an interface).
I have a factory class (CustomerFactory) that extends the Customer class. This has been created to restrict access to the creation and manipulation of Customers.
I have a class (DatabaseQuery) that extends class A. But now that I have retrieved all of the information that comprises a Customer from the database, I cannot construct a Customer without making reference to UserFactory. But UserFactory is a class that I don't want the database portion of the program to know about.
What I would like to do is have my DatabaseQuery class extend both Customer class and A class. But they are both classes and Java won't allow that.
I can't make either of the two classes that I want to make parents of DatabaseQuery into interfaces... so what can I do other than just keep a reference to UserFactory in my DatabaseQuery class?

The description sounds a little vague but it sounds like the correct solution would be to refactor everything. The first clue is when I see "database connection" as an "abstract class". The only hierarchy that a database connection might exist in is in a connection pool and even that is probably shaky. It should never be part of data records, which is what your description sounds like.
That probably isn't what you want to hear.
The other solution, which is why refactoring is better (and which also makes it apparent why the original design is wrong) is to create an entire other hierarchy that mirrors your current data hierarchy and wraps it. So you now have "Customer", you will now have "Customer" and "DBCustomer". And all the code that currently uses "Customer" will have to start using DBCustomer. Actually it is easier than that since you can simply make the new class be "Customer" and rename the old class to "DBCustomer". Naturally that means the new class will have to have all of the functionality of the old class. Fortunately you can use the old class to do that. (But I would guess that isn't going to be easy.)

So i wonder how experienced people do that without Flash Catalyst?
And more im asking to Adobe the same questions. What do you propose to do now what Flash catalyst helped to do until now?

how do you work with designers to get their App Pages designs?

I couldn't agree more with you that developers need a solid WYSIWYG tool, and Catalyst was Adobe's closest rival to Blend. It had much more potential than the amount of attention it received. Adobe was very foolish pulling the plug on it, not to mention all their other recent decisions related to the Flash Platform.
My point was that with all of the importing and exporting capabilities of Illustrator, Photoshop, Flash Professional, and especially Fireworks, you already have all of the capabilities of Flash Catalyst, at least in regards to making creative assets available to the Flex framework. That was the sole purpose of Catalyst- to bridge the gap between Adobe's design applications and Flex. If you weren't concerned with Flex, Flash Catalyst would be of no use, even if it were still in development. Exporting a Catalyst project to Flash Professional or HTML was never on it's roadmap, although I'm sure I'm not the first person who thought of those possibilities.
Catalyst, simply put, was the FXG editor which Flash Builder's design mode was not. For example, you could not draw a rectangle using Builder's design mode. With Catalyst CS5.5, it allowed you to directly assign FXG assets to MXML skins for ten of the nineteen Spark components which use the MXML skin architecture. This was a huge limitition, and espeically obvious with the new roundtripping feature, because using any of the non-supported components could easily break the connection between Builder & Catalyst. Honestly, myself and many of the Adobe engineers I talked to on the Flash Builder team, still do not understand why Catalyst wasn't merged into Flash Builder in the first place.

Basically what it outlined, was when to use Catalyst, and when you are better off exporting straight from the other design apps. My conclusion, was that you're generally better off designing your assets in the app you're comfortable with. That IS your WYSIWYG editor, to the precision of 1px. It was also a future proof answer since Catalyst was discontinued and many of the other Flex related workflows have evaporated. The main loss behind discontinuing Catalyst, were its states, timeline, and visual editing of FXG less commonly preserved when exporting from the other apps.
A workflow example for a project I recently used Catalyst with, http://disneycruiseadventure.com/ was to open the PSD provided inside of Photoshop, launch Catalyst, draw a shape (or copy/paste in a vector smart object from Illustrator), and use it's properties panel to match the Photoshop layer styles. This basically the climax of the day, because the rest of it was all spent manually editing code in Builder (and often fixing a lot of the crap code Catalyst spit out). For advanced use of graphics, we relied heavily on the Flex Component Kit, which basically lets you work with any MovieClip inside of Flex or even insert Flex components into a Flash Professional container. The integration between Flex & Flash Pro is most commonly overlooked, which is sad because it still offers the very most design freedom for Flex and has been around long before Catalyst.
In my personal project, my workflow heavily involves Fireworks. It's exporting capabilities are unparralled by any of the other Adobe design apps. You can design with the 1px precision you are after, and almost always preserve that precision after exporting to Flex 3, FXG, and even CSS. Speaking of CSS, now you can export to CSS3 and jQuery mobile themes using Fireworks. If I had a choice between Fireworks and Catalyst, I would take Fireworks without any question. If you're looking for another workflow, consider the idea of taking HTML/CSS exported by Fireworks and opening it inside of Adobe Edge for adding animation and interactivity. Then do your final editing with Dreamweaver, or skip the Edge step if you don't need it.
