Deskject 1056 Double Prints but Alignment and Advanced Tests Fine

I have an HP Deskjet 1056 for about a year or so. It's always worked fine. Just recently, it's started double-printing so that the letters are printed one next to each other and when it prints boxes or grid, some pieces are straight and others are skewed. This is for both blank ink and the color ink. Usually the bottom half of the page is more skewed than the top when it's a "simple print" but the whole thing is messed up if it's a more "complex" print. I'm not printing photos, just text and some grids/boxes. I've tried printing the self-test where you print and then scan. It comes out perfectly aligned. I've tried printing the advanced test, also perfectly fine. I've tried using the self cleaning stages one and two. I've tried realigning several times, even taking the cartridges out a few times. The test papers always print fine when it's the printer printing but my pages (whether from online or from Microsoft Word or notepad or anything else), always print messed up so I'm guessing maybe it's not the printer itself but some kind of software? I have windows 8 and didn't update anything recently nor has it told me there's anything needing to be updated. I've checked the advanced setting from wherever I'm printing from to make sure it's all correct, right quality, paper type and all that, even changed it to try higher quality, still all skewed. I'm out of ideas....please help!

This is definitely strange.
Let's try a few more things and put an end to this issue once and for all:
Step one: Remove the Print Driver:
Disconnect your USB cable
Open your Start screen (either by selecting the Windows button in the bottom left hand corner of your screen, or by selecting the Windows key on the bottom left hand corner of your keyboard to the right of Ctrl.
Once the Start screen opens type 'Programs and Features'
Select Programs and Features to open it
A list of all programs on your computer will populate. Look through the list for your HP Deskjet 1056. Select this product and remove it.
Once removed, close the Programs and Features folder.
Step two: Clear the Temp files:
Once your product is removed, reopen the 'Start' screen and type 'run'
Select Run to open the Run command box
In the Run box type %temp% and select OK
When the Temp folder opens select Ctrl + A on your keyboard at the same time and everything in your Temp folder should highlight.
Once everything is highlighted select 'Delete' on your keyboard. The Temp folder only holds temporary internet files. Nothing on your actual computer will be compromised by emptying this folder.
If any files are still being used on your computer they will pop up automatically with a 'skip' option. Just Skip them.
Once the Temp folder is cleared, then close the window
On your Desktop right click on the Recycling Bin and left click on 'empty recycling bin'
Restart your computer
 Step three: Download Drivers:
 Once your computer comes back on please go to: HP Deskjet Full Feature Software and Drivers
Select Download on the top left hand side
Just Run the download. Once the Download is complete it will extract to 100% and the installer should automatically launch. Close the Installer.
 Step four: Manually Install Printer:
Reopen your %temp% folder using the Run command
Once in the Temp folder you should see a 7z file
Open the 7z file and locate the : D1050x64 Windows Installer file
Double click on the D1050x64 file and a windows installer screen will open and run
Once the Windows Installer runs and disappears, look on your Desktop and you should see your printer software
To ensure that you don't loose any functionality (scan, print) click on the Printer Assistant Deskjet software icon on your desktop and allow it to run.
Choose 'Connect a New Device' or 'Connect a New Printer'
Run through the onscreen prompts to reinstall your product.
Only plug in your USB cable when the installer screen prompts you to.
Once the install is complete, test the print again.

    I am very proficient with computers and electronics. I would first like to say that this printer has very vibrant inks and its ColorSmart/sRGB ICC profile is pure magic. The high DPI ratings have turned out to be accurate so far and the printer prints beautiful images.
    Problems:
    The problem I am having is with the printers paper feed rollers.  They are not scrolling the paper through the printer accurately and consistantly.  There have also been two paper jams when using multipurpose everyday paper.  When printing high res artwork using HP Advanced Photo Paper I was using HP Photosmart Essentials to create an 8"x10" picture on the 8.5"x11" paper and the first 35-40 prints came out accurately but then, before any paper jams or other problems the 8x10 pictures began to not center correctly on the paper.  Then the top of the 8x10 picture started slanting to the right on the paper and extending too close to the right edge of the paper.  The entire 8x10 picture is no longer printing 8x10 (the left side of the picture is just over 8" tall and the right side of the picture is printing just under 8", same thing with the top and bottom edges of the image) and is not centering properly on the paper.  I  just had my second paper jam last night which I clicked the "cancel print" button on the front of the printer touch display to eject the paper.  Immediately after, everything began printing very close to the left edge of the paper and prints at an angle down the sheet no matter what it is that I print or what paper it is printed on.  I have tried using the auto alignment feature on the printer several times and it does not help. 
    Questions:
    Is this printer purchased on 09/25/2011 from hp.com (with no extended warranty) still under a regular warranty?
    If I send it in for repairs will HP be able to fix these problems?
    Is there any way that I can adjust the scrollers myself to fix the problem?
    Is the new C510a more reliable than the C310a in this field?
    I need a backup printer for my art business, I would like to purchase an HP C510a, but am concerned I will have the same problems with the new one.
    If anyone can help, please respond.  I cannot go on with these problems any longer.

    Thank you for your quick response Bob.  Your answer was helpful, but did not solve my problem.  I have cleaned the printer exactly as your response has suggested, but there has been no change, and I was not able to find any dirt, scum, dust, or anything at all wrong with the rollers.
    Here are a few pictures of some 8"x10" pictures that I just printed on 8.5"x11" HP Advanced Photo Paper:
    These 8"x10" images are supposed to be centered on the paper, but are FAR from centered or dimensionally accurate to 8"x10".
    This last image shows really well how the top of the 8"x10" image slants downward from left to right as well as approaches too close to the right edge of the paper.
    Is this a problem that I can fix on my own?
    If I send the printer to HP for repairs will they be able to fix this problem or will they just clean the printer scrollers and send it back thinking it is fixed?
    I really need help with this problem, because right now, the printer is not useable.

    My hp c8180 will print on a test it prints all colors but when I print just black it spits out blank paper there is black ink in cartridge any suggestions on how to make it print it does say yellow is empty

  • No Mail Print Icon (but Safari and Photo work fine)

    Strange, so maybe you can help. I have an HP Photosmart C7200 printer and am using Printopia to print via 4.2 and AirPrint. This works fine for both Safari and for Photo, but there is no appropriate print icon in Mail.
    All three support printing so I don't see why Mail won't show a print icon (I know, could be a Printopia issue). Anyone have any ideas? I've cold started my iPad, forced Mail to quit and then restart, etc to see if maybe that would clear the issue. At this point I can't print via Mail. Anyone out there have Mail and Printopia working?

    Unfortunately the HP Photosmart C7200 will not be getting direct AirPrint support. The two programs mentioned in my [FAQ|http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2658560&tstart=0] thread and elsewhere do allow sharing a printer from a Mac. For Windows, I know of no supported way of enabling AirPrint, although there are some threads here describing how to hack it yourself. If I find a supported way of enabling AirPrint on Windows I will post back.

    My C7180 has been a stellar performer until this morning.  The printer won't print.  It is connected because I can scan to my computer.  The printer answers my fax line.  BUT - when I try to print I get the 'baloon' on the bottom of the screen telling me that the 'docoment failed to print' ---- Any ideas?

  • No Screen Display (but LED and other functions fine)

    My phone is working - I can hear the alarm when a text message comes in, the phone rings and I can answer it by sliding up.
    I can connect to my PC via USB by plugging it in and touching on the screen in the area where I know the corresponding button is.  But nothing is showing up on the screen.  It's illuminated, but just a blank black screen.
    I took it to Sprint and they said I could buy a new Pre for $550.  Is there no other option for repair here?
    I'm very disappointed that I had to go back to my Treo 700p, as I was absolutely loving the Pre.
    Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!

    I have had my screen freeze on me at least once a week in the last month, often twice.  I get a blank screen, even when charging on the touchstone. I can accept calls and receive notifications of text messages and emails but the screen is completely blank.
    I have had to remove the battery and restart the phone to get it working again.  So far this has fixed it everytime but it can certainly be annoying as the boot up time is long.  Has anyone else experienced this?  Is this a known hardware/software issue?  I have not found any other posts on this subject.

  • Browser not connecting after returning from sleep, but email and imessage working fine

    My Browsers are not able to access the Internet after returning from sleep. This effects other browsers (Firefox & Chrome) as well. The connectivity from mail and iMessage is working fine. I am also hardwired and not using WiFi.

    I have the same problem since updating to Yosemite, works fine after restarting but once it goes in to sleep it affects email as well as browsers, I have a broadband connection. Also accessing the app store is hit and miss, it's either working or simply not not working.
    It also affects other devices trying to connect to the internet over wifi via the airport time capsule, the problems started after installing Yosemite.

  • FF 3.6 not displaying all items in a table but IE and Chrome work fine.

    One of the pages on a web site I created uses a large table to display a list of manufacturers. When you view the page in Firefox some of the table items do not appear. However, in Internet Explorer and Chrome the table displays all of the items as it should.

    I have this same problem. I can't remember if it started with when I upgraded to Snow Leopard, or when I chose to upgrade to a different version other than 3.6 (although I think it happened with 3.6 as well). I doubt it's any addons, because most of them were disabled when I upgraded to 6, 7, 8. One of them crashed multiple times a day, so I went back to a earlier release. I'm currently using 8.0.1, and Firefox was consistently using 1.3 GB of real memory even after quitting (I usually had to force quit because it would literally minutes for it to quit, maybe never quitting- I left it for 15 minutes once... still hadn't quit). The Flash plug-in alone would sometimes use 500 MB of real memory. After almost 2 years of this I can't deal with it anymore. I love FF and have used it from the beginning...
    But when I turned off every addon I have (except for Tree Style Tabs, which is possibly the only thing keeping me from fully switching), and restart FF, FF is using 730 MB of RAM (well it's still climbing 740, now) and 10-20% of CPU, while the Flash plugin is using 15% of CPU. I also noticed that once I closed Gmail, my RAM usage dropped from 1.3 GB to 850 MB. It could've been something else, but that's the main thing I can think of that I did different.
    When Chrome is using only 120 GB, 0.5-2% CPU usage, has been open for days, with 3 windows and multiple tabs in each... (Chrome's Flash plugin is only using 4% CPU by the way)... something is wrong with FF. I love FF, but I've grown to hate it. And this is coming from a guy who really, really, REALLY doesn't want to switch. In fact I still use FF, but am slowly weening myself off it it. It's just not worth the slow down from RAM usage and heat from my CPU (FF often spikes to near 100% usage) anymore...

    hello, could you attribute it to any change / update that was applied? some security software like zonealarm could create problems after a firefox update when sandboxing is enabled, see [[Firefox won't start - find solutions]]
    also in some cases this behaviour can be caused by malware, so please do a full scan of your system with the security software already in place and possibly with a different tool too.

    1. Have you added the new hosting provider, Microsoft Lync Online, and then set up hosting provider federation between your organization and Lync Online ?

    Lync Servers currently use the GTE CyberTrust Global Root and beginning on June 1st, 2013 will migrate to the Baltimore CyberTrust Root. The
    migration of Lync Online Service to use the new Baltimore trusted root Certificate Authority is planned during May 2013. As of June 1st 2013,
    all of our servers including the Lync Push Notifications Clearing House Service will be on Baltimore certs only. So please ensure that your Lync Server deployments have been updated to trust the Baltimore Root before that.

  • Printing w/graphics and borders...

    I have one small problem, when I'm trying to print an invoice from a osCommerce interface the packing slip to print includes in the shipping boxes straight lines and rounded edges which are not lined up on the Mac.
    This is OS X 10.4.6 and I can duplicate it on Safari and Firefox.
    Internet Explorer for the PC prints the invoices and packing slips fine with all lines and edges lined up, but Firefox along with Safari mis-align.
    The alignment isn't off by THAT much, but it does take away from it's professionalism.
    I'm hoping someone knows how to get around this.

    I agree with you that printing of Logo & Framesare not very supportive in Dot Matrix Printer.
    You can ask the Basis consultant to check & change the printer setting & may be it may work, as you have already mentioned that it is OK in Laser Printer. The Dot Matrix printer is currently unable to read the Logo & frame for printing.

  • Why do print jobs disappear and never make it to the queue.?

    Win 7/64 SP 1.... legacy Lexmark X6675 printer/copy/scanner/FAX ....USB wired connection. Windows on auto update. IE 11.
    Printer was working fine until 2 weeks ago. Will not print anything now. Rest of "4 in 1" works fine. I get no messages either on the printer or computer that anything is wrong. All Microsoft scans say all is OK including Mr. FixIt.
    Did complete file scan through command prompt nothing wrong. Have stopped and started print spooler which was empty. Have run virus scan and scanned with Malwarebytes ....nothing.
    Will print OK on an XP machine. Will print a test page from it's install program but will not print a test page from within Windows 7.  Print jobs disappear and never end up in queue from all programs I have, MS Works 9, Notepad, Wordpad, Acrobat reader,
    Microsoft Paint. Installed new inexpensive Canon printer on computer and it works fine. All hardware I believe is OK. Problem IS software.
    I have reinstalled the program 3 times. 2 times through Microsoft auto up date, once by downloading driver program from Lexmark and setting up as a "new" set up.
    Any assistance will be appreciated.

    Since this problem occur 2 weeks ago, the easier way to get it back is using system restore to roll back to a previous time when everything works fine.
    If you have no system point, let us know what scan and "fix it" tool have you tried?
    Firstly, run Printer troubleshooter:
    Open the Printer troubleshooter by clicking the Start button, and then clicking
    Control Panel. In the search box, type troubleshooter, and then click
    Troubleshooting. Under Hardware and Sound, click
    Use a printer.
    Next,  uninstall it from Device Manager completely and then rename the spool printer and driver files:
    1. Open Command Prompt with administrator.
    2. At the command prompt, type the following commands (press ENTER after each)
    3. Rename %systemroot%\System32\Spool\Printers Printers.old.
    4. Rename %systemroot%\System32\Spool\Drivers\w32x86 w32x86.old
    Reinstall it again and make sure get the latest and proper driver from Lexmark.

    Does your PC's security system have a firewall as part of it? Disable that firewall and try printing again.
    Can you type the printer's IP address into a web browser and see the printer?
