Desktop printer

I've had problems recently with 'communication errors' when trying to print. These problems seem to have been solved after reading around these forums, and downloading up-to-date drivers.
However, on my PowerBook, I've lost my Desktop Printer icon - what I get instead is a generic icon which looks like a blank page with the top right corner turned over instead of the previous printer icon.
This is a minor but irritating point. How do I go about getting the correct icon back?

Hi Rod,
I'd try this...
Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, it will try to repair your Disk Directory while the spinning radian is happening, so let it go.
Mac OS X: About the Reset Printing System feature ...

10.5/10.6 instructions...
In System Preferences>Fax & Print, Right click or Control+click on the Printers list Sidebar, choose Reset Printing System.
if you hold option and click the "-" tab it resets the printing system.

  • Paper Size issues with CreatePDF Desktop Printer

Are there any known paper size issues with PDFs created using Acrobat.com's CreatePDF Desktop Printer?
I've performed limited testing with a trial subscription, in preparation for a rollout to several clients.
Standard paper size in this country is A4, not Letter.  The desktop printer was created manually on a Windows XP system following the instructions in document cpsid_86984.  MS Word was then used to print a Word document to the virtual printer.  Paper Size in Word's Page Setup was correctly set to A4.  However the resultant PDF file was Letter size, causing the top of each page to be truncated.
I then looked at the Properties of the printer, and found that it was using an "HP Color LaserJet PS" driver (self-chosen by the printer install procedure).  Its Paper Size was also set to A4.  Word does override some printer driver settings, but in this case both the application and the printer were set to A4, so there should have been no issue.
On a hunch, I then changed the CreatePDF printer driver to a Xerox Phaser, as suggested in the above Adobe document for other versions of Windows.  (Couldn't find the recommended "Xerox Phaser 6120 PS", so chose the 1235 PS model instead.)  After confirming that it too was set for A4, I repeated the test using the same Word document.  This time the result was fine.
While I seem to have solved the issue on this occasion, I have not been able to do sufficient testing with a 5-PDF trial, and wish to avoid similar problems with the future live users, all of which use Word and A4 paper.  Any information or recommendations would be appreciated.  Also, is there any information available on the service's sensitivity to different printer drivers used with the CreatePDF's printer definition?  And can we assume that the alternative "Upload and Convert" procedure correctly selects output paper size from the settings of an uploaded document?
PS - The newly-revised doc cpsid_86984 still seems to need further revising.  Vista and Windows 7 instructions have now been split.  I tried the new Vista instructions on a Vista SP2 PC and found that step 6 appears to be out of place - there was no provision to enter Adobe ID and password at this stage.  It appears that, as with XP and Win7, one must configure the printer after it is installed (and not just if changing the ID or password, as stated in the document).

    Thank you, Rebecca.
The plot thickens a little, given that it was the same unaltered Word document that first created a letter-size PDF, but correctly created an A4-size PDF after the driver was changed from the HP Color Laser PS to a Xerox Phaser.  I thought that the answer may lie in your comment that "it'll get complicated if there is a particular driver selected in the process of manually installing the PDF desktop printer".  But that HP driver was not (consciously) selected - it became part of the printer definition when the manual install instructions were followed.
However I haven't yet had a chance to try a different XP system, and given that you haven't been able to reproduce the issue (thank you for trying), I will assume for the time being that it might have been a spurious problem that won't recur.  I'll take your point about using the installer, though when the opportunity arises I might try to satisfy my cursed curiosity by experimenting further with the manual install.  If I come up with anything of interest, I'll post again.

  • Batch Printing with Desktop Printer

I have been batch printing with a desktop printer to a ethernet connected xerox phaser printer. The files are doc files that I drop onto the desktop printer to automatically print anywhere from 10-30 files at a time. I either use TextEdit or Pages as the default program for the files so I do not have to deal with the print dialog box that comes up with Microsoft Word. My problem is that if I send 20 files for example, only a certain number of them will actually print and the job of printing all of them is not completed. It appears random. Sometimes it may get through 5 and othertimes 15 files before it stops. There is no error message and it seems as if everything was sent to the xerox printer fine...
    Any advise would be appreciated

I spoke with Xerox support. They suggest typing your printers IP address in a browser, clicking on PROPERTIES, select GENERAL from the file menu on the left, then select PRINTER DEFAULTS. Change Timeout Settings from a default of 120 to 999.
Apparently the printer drops info if it takes longer than a specific duration so if there is network traffic or a large number of files are being sent all at once.
I just changed my settings so we shall see if this works

  • Remote Desktop Printer Redirection Stops Working Randomly on Server 2008 R2

We have a MS Windows Server 2008 R2 that is used SOLELY as a Terminal Services remote desktop server onto our network. It is used for employees who are off site and need to use the networked company software. VPN works, but is extremely slow for this software.
Over the past week, the redirected printers function has repeatedly stopped on this server. The employees need this to print to their own local printers. It will eventually restart itself, but after several hours. To get it started faster, I have to restart
    the server.
I've done this maybe 6 time since last Monday. This has never been an issue before, and I cannot think of any change that may have occurred that could cause this.
    The Event Viewer says this:
The Remote Desktop license server cannot update the license attributes for user "DrewR" in the Active Directory Domain "XXXX.main". Ensure that the computer account for the license server is a member of Terminal Server License Servers group
    in Active Directory domain "XXXX.main".
If the license server is installed on a domain controller, the Network Service account also needs to be a member of the Terminal Server License Servers group.
If the license server is installed on a domain controller, after you have added the appropriate accounts to the Terminal Server License Servers group, you must restart the Remote Desktop Licensing service to track or report the usage of RDS Per User CALs.
    Win32 error code: 0x80070005
    (I inserted the Xs)
I've never looked at the Event Viewer on this server, but it is littered with messages such as this, and has been for months and months, so if this IS the issue, then it sure took its sweet time affecting anything.

  • Error message in PDF desktop printer

Desktop printer seems to install from Adobe online, but nothing prints when it is used. The documented is listed in the printer qeue for the PDF printer, but with "error." There is no way to decipher what the error is, and how to fix it. I'm running from Windows XP. Any suggestions?

As of February 17, 2014, the desktop app for Adobe CreatePDF (now known as PDF Pack) will no longer be available for use. You can still use your PDF Pack subscription by accessing the service in one of the following ways:

  • CreatePDF desktop printer - 'error'

    Hi,
I installed the CreatePDF pack (I have Windows7) and then ran into problems as the install wouldn't work. I then installed the Xerox printer and ran the CreatePDF installation again and it worked. The problem is that I cannot print on this printer. When I try to create a pdf from Word using the CreatePDF printer I get an 'error' in the spool. I followed all the leads I could find to fix this problem:
    - I installed the Windows Patch
    - I removed and re-installed the CreatePDF desktop printer
    - I made sure my credentials were correct for the port
I removed and re-installed the Xerox and CreatePDF printer a number of times but nothing seems to help.
What else can I try to make this work?
    Thanks

    Hi,
Yes that the hotflix I applied. I did re-install the printer after the update but it didn’t fix the problem. I can see the printer and use it but it failed each time. I get a failure email with the following message which makes no sense since I am printing from Word (I tried other software too) :
Adobe PDF Pack could not successfully convert your file Microsoft Word - Document1 to Adobe PDF. Your uploaded file type is not a supported format.
    What else can I do?
    Many thanks

  • Where do my Adobe CreatePDF Desktop Printer Files Go?

I've spent hours looking through the Adobe website for a simple answer to a simple question.
One reader replied that all you have to do is log on to your account and you will find the document right there.  Good guess, but sorry.  Not so.  Just to test his theory I printed 500,000 pages.  I watched the Windows 7 print window to make sure all pages got spooled and printed.  They did, but they cannot be found.
My congratulations to Adobe for the company with best no customer support support.  Once I log on there is no where to enter a simple question.  You can however enter something to start a discussion.  Maybe, just maybe someone might happen along and make a correct guess.  Who knows?
And then you find a page like this one:
Whoops.  Just like Adobe.  Set up a window to enter an Image.  Select the image, meet the requirements.  Select the image.  An hour later no image, no error message, but the window is still up and active.
When you open the Printer window, and it shows the files printing to Adobe CreatePDF Desktop Printer, why do some files have the status of "error?"  What does "error" mean?  Where can I find what "error" is there and how to fix it?  Or am I just some dumb ******* who gives up my money for nothing in return.
Adobe is as adobe has always been.  Impossible to navigate.  Slow, slow, slow.  And impossible to get any customer service.  And I am the dumbhead that pays for it.

This document should help explain a bit What is the Adobe CreatePDF Desktop Printer and how do I install it? The files get stored back in your online account.
Also, make sure you have this information completed as well.

  • Unable to use Adobe CreatePDF Desktop Printer

I want to convert a web page (html) to a PDF document. When I tried to do this using my Adobe PDF Pack, I received a message indicating that I would have to do it using the Adobe CreatePDF Desktop Printer. So, I downloaded and installed the Adobe CreatePDF Desktop Printer as directed.   I went to the web page and printed the document to the Adobe CreatePDF Desktop Printer, as directed in the instructions.  I received the following error message:  Could not open the file. Access is denied.
    What do I do now?

I get exactly the same result.  It doesn't work.  Please note that I am
trying to SAVE the web page as a PDF file.  That is, I am trying to convert
a web page (html) to a PDF document.   I am not trying to print it.  I want
a copy of the PDF version of the web page to save on my computer.
In any event, printing it does not work.   I get the same error message I
indicated in my first missive.  And, yes, my printer is working just fine.
Please:  tell me how to use the

and downloaded the Adobe CreatePDF Printer.  I followed these instructions:
    "Print To PDF Setup
The Adobe CreatePDF Desktop Printer lets you convert any file (in a
printable format) to PDF by printing it from an application on your desktop.
The resulting file is saved automatically to your Adobe PDF Pack account,
and you receive an email when conversion is complete. The desktop printer
functionality is available for Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7. You
don't need any special hardware to print to Adobe CreatePDF Desktop Printer.
To print to the Adobe CreatePDF printer, first install and configure the
Adobe CreatePDF Desktop printer. Then, open a file in its native application
and choose the print function. Select the Adobe CreatePDF Desktop Printer
from the printer list, choose the appropriate print settings, and then print
the file. Adobe CreatePDF Desktop Printer converts the file to PDF, and then
stores the PDF file in your Acrobat.com account."
So, the instructions say that the Adobe CreatePDF Desktop Printer will
convert a file to PDF and store it in my Acrobat.com account.  It doesn't do
that.  I tried just printing it (after selecting Adobe CreatePDF Desktop
Printer).  I also tried printing to file.  In both cases, I get an error
message, and there is no file stored in my Acrobat.com account.
    It doesn't work.
    Please fix!

  • I just installed Adobe CreatePDF desktop printer, when I try to use from Word or Excel, it does not work.  The Adobe print queue says "error" in the status screen.  I have uninstalled and re-installed.  Any ideas of what to do next?

I just installed Adobe CreatePDF desktop printer on a Windows 7 home PC.  When I try to use from Word or EWxcel, it does not print.  The Adobe print device queue reports an "error" in the status column.

Adobe retired this Feb 17, 2014.
This app sent content to and got content from the web based services of "CreatPDF" and "PDF Pack".
These are subscription services out in "the cloud". When the app was live you had to be online and signed into your account.  The user forum for CreatePDF has a DOC that speaks to the app removal.
    Be well...

  • My Adobe CreatePDF Desktop Printer is not working

When I print a file to this printer, it keeps showing up in the printer status with an error message.  I've already run the Microsoft hotfix that is linked to this problem.  Alternatively, how else can I print one tab from an excel worksheet?  When I go online to my adobe pack subscription, I can only convert the entire document and don't have the capability to edit the document once it's converted (ie to remove the pages I don't want).  Please help!!

    Hi,
Are you using Windows 7 SP1 (64 bit)? If so, please uninstall Adobe CreatePDF Desktop printer from Control Panel then restart Windows and re-install CreatePDF Desktop printer.
If that does not work then please verify the Adobe PS printer driver at C:\Windows\System32\spool\drivers\x64\3 folder for PSCRIPT files( See below screenshot)

  • Adobe CreatePDF Desktop printer won't work

I downloaded and installed Adobe CreatePDF on my computer.  I also went to the properties and entered my username and password which it accepted.  Now, every time I try to print anything to PDF format it never saves / creates a file, it only goes to the queue and says <error> in the queue.  How do I resolve this issue?

Sounds like you might be encountering the issue documented here: http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat-com/kb/createpdf-desktop-printer-windows-7.html

  • Adobe CreatePDF Desktop Printer

I have a subscription to Adobe CreatePDF.  I've downloaded the Adobe CreatePDF Desktop Printer and can see it in my list of printers.  However, when I try to print a doc using the Desktop Printer, the doc doesn't print and  I get 'error' under status.  I've tried reinstalling the Desktop Printer but that hasn't helped.  Can you advise?

I had this same problem.  I'm running Windows 7, Service Pack 1.  That was the problem.  After countless times installing and uninstalling the Desktop Printer, with no success fixing the problem, I finally came across a notice from Adobe that Windows 7, Servicce Pack 1 is to blame.  The only fix is to go to Microsoft and download a hotfix for the issue.  Microsoft will email you a link to the hotfix.  The hotfix is downloaded as a zip file. I recommmend extracting it to your desktop and then double clicking the extracted file.  (The default extraction process wanted to dump it somewhere I couldn't ever find on my system.  That's why I recommend extracting to your desktop.)
After a system restart, the Desktop Printer should work just fine.  It did for me.
This is the link Microsoft emailed to me:
    http://hotfixv4.microsoft.com/Windows%207/Windows%20Server2008%20R2%20SP1/sp2/Fix381852/76 00/free/437635_intl_x64_zip.exe
You can also try searching for KB Article Number: 2616471
Even though, this is a Microsoft issue, I'm very angry that Adobe doesn't have the courtesy to save us all a bunch of headache by including a disclaimer and/or instructions for the hotfix next to the install Desktop Printer instructions.  I mean, isn't the majority of Adobe's customers running Windows 7, Service Pack 1?  What a freaking waste of my time it was to go through this hassle.
