Desktop Publisher Scheduled Report Limits

Post Author: bicknell
CA Forum: crystalreports.com
Using the crystalreports.com desktop publisher, a customer scheduled the upload of 80+ reports to crystalreports.com on a dailybasis.  Some of the jobs were failing and others seemed like they were being run continuously.    There are two significant points to know about the desktop publisher:When the desktop publisher uploads a file to crystalreports.com, the program needs to logon to crystalreports.com using your crystalreports.com user account.  The site only allows 10 concurrent logons for the same account at any one time.  This effectively limits you to scheduling 10 documents at any one time.If you are refreshing these reports before they are uploaded, the number of concurrent refreshes will be limited by the resources of your computer.  It is a fairly expensive process in terms of memory and CPU time, especially if you have a large number of records in each report.  We've had another customer report that they could only actually refresh about 10 reports at a time before they started getting failures. This could be a combination of report size/complexity and the processing power of your computer. Note: The ODC and SFDC connector are designed to handle much bigger tasks than the desktop publisher. The desktop publisher is designed for lightweight loads not exceeding 10 connections.

Hi JD,
I'm not sure about the "unable to connect to the file" error you are seeing.  Can you post the exact wording of the error and where you are seeing it?  If you can post a screen shot of the error, that would be great.  If you change the file name of the rpt on your hard drive, the task won't be able to find it the next time it runs.  Could that be the problem?
You should be able to create a task in the desktop publisher, point it to a report and schedule it - at that time, it will prompt you for the db logon and parameter values.  Once you have supplied that info, the task will run according to whatever recurrence pattern you have set - daily, weekly, whatever.  Each time the task runs, it will try to refresh the rpt file with the db logon and parameter values you specified and upload the rpt file to crystalreports.com.
You should always be able to open the rpt file in Crystal Reports, however I have seen a problem where the rpt file gets corrupted if you run out of disk space when the report is being saved after the refresh.  The error we got from this though was that the rpt file had been corrupted.  I don't think it complained about not being an rpt file.
Yes, you should be able to use a salesforce.com db connection and you should be able to configure the desktop publisher task to run every 30 minutes.
Yes, if you do edit the rpt file  you should see the changes the next time the task runs.  We have found problems where you will get an error on uploading to cr.com using the overwrite option if the rpt file has been changed "too much".  Most often this only applies to the db connection changing too much.  If you are just editing the report layout, that should be fine.

    Hi Experts,
Our BI Publisher is currently integrated with siebel, whenever i tried generating 35k records bip report via manual generation in siebel, it completed successfully, however when i tried generating it via bip scheduling it fails. Do you have any idea why this is happening? note that if i generate less number of records bip scheduler successfully generated the report. Hope you could help me on this.

    Cause
The issue occurs when a Siebel BIP Report based on an Integration Component that has more than 20 Integration Component Fields and processing over 20000-30000 records is run as a Scheduled Job on the BI Publisher server. This behavior can be reproduced with out-of-box reports also, provided the Integration Component has more than 20 fields.
A Product Bug:13398030 has been logged to request a fix in the future release of Siebel CRM.
    Solution
    Workaround
The report can be run in interactive/ real-time mode rather than running as a scheduled job.
NOTE: Please implement the solution as documented in the Document 1064043.1 to be able to run large data volume reports.

  • Urgent Help Needed in scheduling reports from BI Publisher

    Hi,
I have configure the scheduler service on my windows server. Now i am trying to schedule a report from BI pubisher. But it is not working. When i click submit button, It is not doing anything. It seems it adds entry in the job schedule table. Even when i click schedules link, it shows just show progress status on explorer status bar but nothing happens.
Any help would be on this would be highly appretiated.
    Thanks,
    Prasad

Have you actually checked the scheduler tab to see what the report did? BI Publisher will not just tell you if a job fails unless you have your email server configured then you tell it to email you if the job fails. Also, be patient because it can take up to 5 or 10 minutes for a report to completely run for a 40000 row dataset. If you check the scheduler tab and the job failed, check your RTF Template. I have discovered through trial and error that BIP is picky about how you do your tags, especially loop tags. These would allow you to view the report online but cause BIP scheduled reports to fail on the report. Other than that, have you installed the scheduler database and tied it in? BIP has its own database schema you have to install somewhere on an database server that it stores scheduling information in.
    I hope this helps.

  • Scheduled report - Event (time limitation ?)

    Hello,
I was wondering how many time will a scheduled report wait for an event (file).
    For example :
A report is scheduled on december 27th 9:00am and waits for an event (file).
If the file arrives on december 29th, will the report be refreshed ? or is it too late ?
    Thank you.

    thanks for the reply
    It's a monthly frequency...
considering what you said, it means that the report will be refreshed if the file arrive within this month even if it's scheduled on a specific day of every month, right ?

  • Scheduled report failed after 10 mins

    Hi Everyone,
We are using Business Object XI 3.1 and Crystal Report 2008.
We have a few reports which uses Java Beans Connectivity. They all run fine using Crystal Report 2008 Designer.

    Hi Shan,
You can refer to the following SAP KBA for the issue:

The SAP Note is for BO XI R2; however, you can try the same resolution for BO XI 3.1.

  • Defining "prior-week" timeframe dynamically for scheduled reports

I have a number of reports that I need to execute each week.  But, the scheduling options don't allow me to kick off the report on a Sunday AND constrain the timeframe to the prior week (Sunday-Saturday).   I have a prompt built into the original query, but that's useless if I want to automate the output.
I was successful getting the query to work against the upstream database using the following query fragment:
    BETWEEN CURRENT_DATE - INTERVAL '7 day' AND CURRENT_DATE - INTERVAL '1 day'
But, there is no option to enter this query into the BI.Ondemand UI.
Any insight would be helpful.   This issue is hindering progress with our metrics automation plans.
    Regards,
    -Joe

    I'm using the Web-based version of BI.ondemand.
I don't have access to the OnDemand Desktop Publisher because the hosting provider I'm using doesn't support it.
The scheduler is very unstable in the web version. I often get "page not loaded" errors in the prompt window within the popup scheduler.
I've also just determined that the week-definition in BObj is Monday-Sunday and not Sunday-Saturday.   I'd need to make that adjustment as well.

                                  p.flush();
                            p.close();
lock.release();Ok, I tried implementing locks but I dont know why it is not working...An exception is thrown and nothing is wriiten to the file. I have employed a complete lock on the file so that no other JVM application can use it.
Actually this is a server that grabs data sent from an Iframe and writes it down to a temp file. I open a file input stream, lock it and then use a printwriter strream to write the realyed data to the file. Any inputs as to what is wrong with the code snippet above?????

We would like to know how to publish this report in Enterprise portal ?
Can we bypass publishing the report to crystal enterprise server and publish the report on browser or through EP ?

  • Scheduled report name

    Hi,
We have made a custom report for UCCX8.5, which we'd like to schedule. This report can only show the details of one CSQ, by selecting a CSQ filter. Because of this we'll need to schedule a new task for every CSQ. Here the issue arises: when I look at the scheduled reports overview, all reports have the same name: The name of the report. This makes it impossible to see which scheduled report is which. So it'll be really hard to delete or add one later.
Is there a way to change the name of the scheduled report task?
    Regards,
    Ruud van Strijp

This is one of a few scheduler-related limitations of the HRC. Another is that the machine running the client must be running and actively logged in for the system tray-based (i.e. not a windows service) scheduler app to trigger.
My advise on this one is to upgrade to the latest 9.0 build where you can switch from the legacy HRC client to the new Unified Intelligence Center (CUIC) reporting engine. This is a browser-based UI and was ported over from UCCE so now both products have the same reporting engine. As luck would have it, you can name the schedule when you create it with CUIC:
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/cust_contact/contact_center/intelligence_suite/intelligence_suite_902/user/guide/CUIC_BK_R4B100EB_00_reporting-app-user-guide-902_chapter_01000.html
With that said, you'll have to redo your custom report by spinning up a lab instance of CUIC Premium (not bundled with CCX) so you can create the report definition. Once you have that, you can import it into the embedded CUIC Standard instance on CCX and be good to go. The SQL stored procedure process remains unchanged.
In case you're inclined to dismiss this advice, note that HRC is EoL. In 9.0 you can pick one or the other but it's gone entirely in 10.0; CUIC only. So, it's only a matter of time before you have to cross this bridge anyways.

  • Scheduled report issue

    Hi,
I scheduled a work book with multiple worksheets in discoverer 4.1.47. After scheduling when am I opening, I found there is a sheet with no data. I checked the query from SQL inspector and its not showing the original query and its showing the below query . I normally opened the worksheet from discoverer desktop and its showing the query correctly, where as in scheduled report SQL inspector is showing the below..
Remaing all sheets are scheduled correctly.
    Please let me know, why

    Uma

    Hi Uma
In standard Discoverer, when you create and run a worksheet the results are created dynamically. This means that the data is only available within the session that is running the worksheet. More importantly, the data is NOT available to any other worksheet whether within that session or not. However, if you use a scheduled workbook then the results from the worksheet are held in a temporary table until you remove the results or you delete the scheduled workbook.
    Tables look like this: EUL5_B060914015847Q1R1
    Views look like this: EUL5_B060914015847Q1V1
Note: these temporary tables are stored within the schema of the user who owns the workbook - not within the standard EUL schema. The format of the table is as follows:
EUL5_B060914015847Q1R1 which can be broken into six separate pieces.
    These pieces are as follows:
    EUL5_ B YYMMDD HHMISS Q9 R9, where
    EUL5_ is a fixed name
B means Batch and is a constant
YYMMDD is the date that the worksheet was run,
HHMISS is the time when the worksheet was run, the time is in the 24 hour clock format,
Q9 means this is the letter Q followed by a number - E.g. Q1, which signifies the query number. I believe Oracle have some plans to allow multiple queries but for now this is always Q1,
R9 means this is the letter R followed by a number - E.g. R1, R2 and so on. This is the run number.
Using the above logic therefore, here is your example: APPS.EUL4_B100714054016Q2R1
This means this is result set number 1 for query 2, run at 5:50:16 AM on 14th July 2010.
So if you can figure out which worksheet was scheduled and when it was run you can build a view that sits on top of the latest table to give you the latest results. Something else which adds interest here is that the column names within the table do not match the column names as in your original query. The scheduled results column names use generic names such as BRVC1, BRVC2, BRD1, BRD2, BRN1 and BRN2.
These are codes and can be interpreted as follows:
BRCV1 and BRCV2 mean Batch Result Varchar (aka string) 1 and 2,
BRD1 and BED2 mean Batch Result Date 1 and 2,
BRN1 and BEN2 mean Batch Result Number 1 and 2
In SQL, try this: SELECT * FROM APPS.EUL4_B100714054016Q2R1 - do you see anything? If yes, there is data in the result set. If no, this means Discoverer found no data when it ran the scheduled workbook.
If you have no data in the results you have to determine why. Perhaps you are pulling from a secure view using a specific responsibility that was needed get at the data? A responsibility that would be needed during the scheduled run.
    Hopefully this helps
    Best wishes
    Michael

  • Can we enable Database Name box while scheduling report

Hi, I am boxi administrator and I am working on a unique client requirement. I don't know if it needs to be in administration forum or crystal reports.   we are using crystal reports  and  We are on boxi R2 SP3 on IIS.
We have 8 DB servers for load balancing ( look www.intersystems.com for details of how). We want to publish report in BOXI and user will then schedule report. We don't want multiple copies as it will be difficult to maintain at several places. So please rule out the possibility of  8 copies of same Crystal report connected to each 8 DB servers.
When user schedules report then we want to load balance the DB servers i.e. we have defined 8 ODBC connections on each application servers and want to use all ODBC ( DB) for each report. When we schedule reports then I see server name and Database name is disabled in Database logon properties.
Please let me know if this  is possible. We will be using standard infoview to schedule reports.
    Thanks,

This is not feasible. I figured out one option that is using Virtual IP with Load balancer. We can load balance ODBC using this. This is tested in another project of state govt.
    Thanks,

  • Publishing BEx Reports as PDF or Excel Format into a Folder

    Hi,
         Current Environment: BW 3.5;  Portal:None
We are currently broadcasting BEx Reports (BW 3.5).
    a) Is there a way in which we can publish these reports into a Network directory or a folder of an application server either in the Excel format or PDF Format?
    Solutions looked at:
---RSRT allows us to publish in .txt file. There is some amount of work involved in getting it converted into a PDF Format.
--Looked at the solution for the development of wrapper class for Adobe Document services.
Are there any other solutions? Any ideas would be appreciated.
    Thanking in advance.

    Hi,
Here we have a scenario where we are using BO(Business Objects) reports.
All the roports sent to Users and are saved at the local directories.
At the back end BO reports use the BEx query output.
All the reports are scheduled and are fetching data from BW system after the data load completes.
    Hope this helps.

  • Crystal Reports Server - Scheduling Report Exports

    Dear Experts,
We are using Crystal Reports Server XI Edition and we would like to schedule report exports. Crystal Reports Server configuration console allows us to automate report exports but apparently we could not find a way to pass report parameters and formulas from any export management tab. Naturally, each report needs to take different parameters but to our knowledge CRS management console does not have a screen that prompts us to key in or to read dynamic report parameters and formula. It simply uses the default report parameters. Can you confirm this please?
To overcome this limitation, we are thinking of developing something like a script that directly interacts with CRS. The script would pass the name of the report, the report parameters and other relevant details like CMS username/ password.Do you think this is possible and if yes can you please point us to the key APIs required for scheduling report exports?
My sincere thanks for your assistance.
    Kind Regards,
    Joseph.

You are able to change the parameters for the report within the Central Management Console under the processing tab before scheduling.
Here is some sample applications that you can refer to in regards to doing this using the api:
