Desktops and changes to .portal file

Is there any way to keep your desktop navigation in sync with changes made to your .portal file? We want to have one .portal file, but many desktops. Most changes will be passed on to the desktops, and where that isn't the case, it would be less work to change the desktops themselves. From what we've seen so far, creating a desktop just takes a snapshot, and further change to the .portal are ignored. Is there any way to keep them in step?

A simple way to refresh the desktop definition with the newly deployed portal file is to recreate a dummy desktop (called dummy for instance ) pointing to the new portal file. This will update portal db and merge it with the pre-existing customization.

  • Moving to new PC and changing path to files

Hi! I'm moving from a Windows XP machine to a new Vista machine. My iTunes library is external on a samba share so the path in my iTunes xml library file is: /Jester/music/ etc... Well, there's some bugs in getting Windows Vista to see Samba shares so I have to view it by IP address. I've mounted that IP address as a drive, so I need to just substitute the above with "M:/". I've tried copying my old library files over. If I leave them intact, iTunes sees the library & rating but can't find the songs (I have 8000+ so I don't want to go refind each one). If I try to change the XML file, iTunes apparently reloads the library from the itl file. I also tried the hack to corrupt the itl file so it would rebuild from the xml file but apparently that doesn't work anymore in iTunes 7, it just reverts back to an empty library. Any suggestions?

Thought that I would post back and say that I was able to create a Backup for a catalog under PSE 3, which required 4 CDs.
Then I ran the Restore on the new PC where only PSE 4 is installed. The Restore ran using all 4 CDs and at the end I received the message that the Catalog was from a prior version and needed to be converted. I said OK to the catalog conversion, which ran and then displayed thumbnails in the Photo Browser. When I scrolled thru the photo well there were normal "first time" delays that I attribute to the building of the thumbnails.
As of now the v4 catalog appears to be updated for the new drive and folder location on this system. The associated photo files seem generally OK, but I am still checking specifics.
For now I will run with the photo files on the only drive, the system drive. However, eventually I will probably add a second internal or external drive.
Colin and Chuck, I decided to try the PS Elements functions first and keep your information in reserve in case I discover a problem. However, I am still very grateful for the assistance.

  • Find and change crashing InDesign file

I'm working on a file and whenever I do a find and replace, it crashes. I recently ran Adobe updater and when I did, the application gave an error that "Scotch Rules" were used on the last saved version and it wasn't loaded on my system. Considering I built this file on my system, I knew I had Scotch Rules. I went into my extension manager and enabled it. This didn't help the crashing. It crashes with this loaded and this not loaded.
I also trashed my preferences to InDesign using the cmd+opt+cntrl+shift as well as by hand by going to the folders. Nothing is working
    Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance!

Peter Spier Thanks for replying to another one of my posts. I tried what you suggested here and it didn't work. Actually, I found that when I "saved as" an IDML, it wouldn't save a file at all. It would have a temporary "lock" icon as if making one on the desktop, but no file would finalize and appear. I also reinstalled the applications from the disk image I downloaded through the creative cloud and that didn't solve the problem. I then corrected disk permissions in Apple's Disk Utility. That didn't work either.

  • Editing and changing large text file

    hi,
new to this, so bare with me.
got a large text file 44meg and i need to change some values in it.
    example:
    TSX ;20030102;40302216;40300579;1980;1900;3762000
i need to change the lines so that they read:
    TSX ;20030102;302216;300579;1980;1900;3762000
thus removing the leading 40 in the middle cols.
    Thanks in advance
    john

    crap, small mistake
    1) use BufferedReader to read in the file line by line (BufferedReader.readLine())
2a) for each line, split it on the semicolons (String.split())
2b) change the middle value using String.substring()
2c) construct a new line by appending all strings in the array returned by 2a) to eachother
2d) write this new line to a file using PrintStream (PrintSteam.println())
    3) when done, close both the reader and the printstream.

  • Converting a url to a file (opening a url in a jar and changing to a file)

Hello everyone, my title states exactly what I want to do I want to use Url joe = MyClass.class.getResource(file.txt) to make a url which I can turn into a file.
I need to open this location.
Basically I have 26 text files located in a jar file, and all I gotta do is open each file but I cant seem to find out how to do it, thanks a lot in advance

use getResourceAsStream(String) to get InputStream instead of URL. Then you can use such a stream as normal FileInputStream or any InputStream.
    Notice:
    this.getClass().getClassLoader.getResourceAsStream("resource"); looks for
resources in "this" class package. If your resources are somewhere else in
classpath use ClassLoader method getSystemResourceAsStream or give full path to resource starting with /.

  • Finding and changing ownership of files by uid

In migrating to a laptop to allow the primary account to be a mobile user on a server, I deleted the user account. Since this user was also the admin for the machine, I now have a series of applications and files on the box which show 501:501 as the owner and group. I can use find to find the files. What I am searching for is the command that would allow me to pipe that to chown so I can modify all these files. Yes I do have a back-up.
    Is it something like:
    sudo find / -uid 501 | chown admin:admin
And then I could repeat to get the remaining 501 group with:
sudo find / -gid 501 | chown :admin
    Thanks!

I suggest using xargs. Use -print0 on 'find' and -0 with xargs (those are zeros).
    Something like:
    find / -uid 501 -print0 | xargs -0 chown admin:admin
(I didn't fully test it -- ran with 'echo' instead of chown )

  • Create desktop quietly fails - doesn't like my ".portal" file

    Guys,
Since SP2, we're having trouble creating a desktop to "import" our ".portal" file.
After going through the sequence of clicks, it just comes back quietly but the
desktop is not there. It only does this if I "Choose a Template". It seems that
it doesn't like something in my template file but gives no indication of what.
If I revert back to an old template file, it works. However, I also re-created
a new template file from scratch and it won't read that one either.
    Any clues?
Is there some debug/logging options for Admin Portal?
    Thanks,
    Phil

    Jeff,
    Thanks for the reply.
The .portal file was created in workshop and workshop reads it fine.
I discovered that after deleting all my books and pages from the Admin Portal
library, it imported my .portal file successfully. I'm thinking it finds some
"Definition Label" conflict between those in the .portal file and what's in the
    library.

I am having a hard time with my fcp x running so slow.  i can't even move my mouse without the time wheel coming on and staying up for at least 20 some seconds.  I have upgraded my ram to 12 and changed all my files to proxy files; also i cleaned the crap out of my computer removing all other media files I didn't need and it is still running the same.  Please help!  I have a deadline on my short film to be submitted and I can't finish it like this.  Oh also it ran fine in the beginning but and one day it just started doing this out of no where.  Anything will help!  Thanks

In addition have you got FileVault switched on as that will kill performance.

  • How do I install CC Desktop and Apps to a drive other than "C"?

After several problems, help from the forum, and finally an Adobe tech from India, the tech was able to install CC Desktop.  The tech had to make hidden files visible, and change an existing file OO?? (I can't remember the last two letters") to OO??_old.  Maybe this will help someone else.
Perhaps I'm wrong, but as the tech was downloading and installing CC Desktop, I didn't see any option for which drive to install it on.  I am now installing CC apps.  I see no option as to which drive to install the app.
    I have my computer setup as C: operating system; D: sctratch; E: programs; F: files, G: cd/dvd.
How can I install CC Desktop to "E"?  If done, will CC apps automatically install on "E"?  Will CC Desktop work properly on other than "C" drive?   Will CC apps work properly on other than "C" drive?  If CC Desktop should always be on "C", can I stll install CC apps on "E"?  I get no dialog box or window providing an option of where to install any of the CC programs.

While CCApp Prefs does give you this option, it doesn't respect the settings and still installs to C: Drive. This is a big problem for those using an SSD drive to boot. Why would something as simple as choosing your install folder, like every other application in the world be an issue that has taken over a year to fix?

  • How do I repair my desktop AND dashboard after everything else failed?

    Hello,
I tried finding a thread with my problem here on MacSupport, but those solutions didn't work and weren't exactly my laptop problems.
I'm using a 2010 MacBook Pro.  I had recently updated to the Maverick OS, and the only real problem I was experiencing was some lag in starting up, loading up programs, switching between my desktops, etc.  It wasn't a bother.
However, starting a week or two ago, my laptop would just freeze while I was studying, listening to Pandora.  In which case I'd have to hard reset my laptop.  This happened at least once a day.
Just yesterday (Dec 6), as I finished taking my exam (using ExamSoft/SofTest - required by the school) my laptop froze.  I again had to hard reset.  The laptop was operational, but I noticed two big problems after I left the test site:
    Problems
My desktop is unresponsive.  I can't click, drag, select, right click, create a new folder, and all my icons have disappeared.  However, when I spotlight my Desktop folder, all my programs, files, and shortcuts are still there.  It's a bit inconvenient to search, open Desktop, and then open the file I need to.
My widgets along with my Dashboard has disappeared!  I had some pertinent info regarding my classes in my notes, but I have no way to access them.  Before I would just 3 finger swipe to the far left, hot corned, of F4'd to access my dashboard.  Not anymore.  Mission Control from System Preferences shows Dashboard as "Off" no matter how many times I change it.
    What I tried
I did as much reading up as I could afford (I still have 1 exam before the end of my term), and the posted solutions both here and elsewhere haven't been satisfactory for the issue I'm experiencing.
    Relaunched Finder
    Restarted the laptop
In System Preferences, Dashboard was "Off," switched that to "As Overlay," and "As Space," and it reverted to "Off"
Moved Dashboard app icon from Applications to the dock, clicked it, right clicked it
Mission controlled (hot corner) from the desktop to add more desktops and hopefully add back Dashboard (I was getting a bit desperate)
In Disk Utility: I verified the Disk and then repaired the Disk.
In Disk Utility: I verified the Disk permissions and then repaired the Disk permissions.
I updated from OSX Maverick to OSX Yosemite.
Kept the laptop off overnight (6 hours)
And many other things like CtrlR/S during rebooting
    Reboot as Safe Mode
One of the things I read about that I haven't done is Archive and Reformat, and I really don't want to do that, especially at this time.
    Additional Info
When I created a new account, I was able to FINALLY "right click" from my Trackpad (I don't have a mouse), and create a new folder on the desktop!  However, Dashboard would STILL not work.  And of course none of my files and programs are in the second account.
I fly home in 4 days from med school so that I can finally go to my Mac store in Cali, but I'd like to try get this seemingly small technical error fixed.

  • *.portal file not showing certain images (WLP 8.1)

    Hi,
In WL portal 8.1 I have a portlet with 2 images: one made by the html tag
<img>, one made by the jsp tag <netui:image>
In a direct test of the portlet's page flow they both show up.
Inside a portal file they also both show up.
But the minmized, maximized buttons of the portlet don't show (they get a
    red X)
I have 2 images in the header references by my own shell: one <img>, one
    <netui:image>.
in a direct test they both show up.
Inside a portal file only the <img> (which uses request.getContentPath() by
    the way) shows up.
How do I get my image to show up?
You can easy recreate this problem: Open a new portal application, a new
portal web project and a new portal file.
Then create a new page flow (based on for example the user login control)
and drag this one in the portal file.
Select minimized and maximized button and take a look at the portal file.
Thank you for any and all help,
    Geoffrey

    Tomas,
This is a known limitation and will be fixed in SP2. At the moment, WLP can
only authenticate and generate profiles for users out of a single ATN
    provider.
See the link below for how to properly identify the ATN provider.
    SOLUTION:
You can only use com.bea.p13n.security.Authentication to login to the portal
app for users who are in the configured authentication provider. Specify
    the
configured authentication provider with the system property
"com.bea.p13n.usermgmt.AuthenticationProviderName" when you start up the
server or use usermgmt-provider.properties with the property
"com.bea.p13n.usermgmt.AuthenticationProviderName". See the javadoc for the
    RealmHelper at
    http://edocs.bea.com/wlp/docs81/javadoc/com/bea/p13n/usermgmt/RealmHelper.ht

    Hallo,
I configured an external Ldap server for authenticating users. Also, Iwant to
enable p13n for users. Therefore, I have login portlet callingAuthentication.login(name,
pwd, req) and that login method should load profile for the user beinglogged
    in.
    That's ok, all work fine.
The problem starts when using 2 authentication providers. I want portaladministrators
(weblogic, ...) to be in WL internal Ldap and employees to be in anexternal Ldap.
First auth.provider is the DefaultAuthenticator (with sufficient flag) andthe
second is OpenLdapAuthenticator (with required flag).
And now, user profile is loaded for internal users only !!!
When I try to log in as an employee (member of external Ldap) I'm loggedin well
and then an exception is thrown - user profile is not loaded due to "userwas
    not found".
    See stacktrace in appended file.
    Any idea?

  • How can I change the policy file?

I have designed an applet to read a file from the local Machine.
This applet thro a servlet reads the contents of the file specified.
I use Tomcat 4.1.12 server and this is an client-server application.
To read the file in the local machine, I set the permission as follows in the .java.policy file in the Local Machine.
    grant codeBase "http://MyMachine:8080/Example" {
    permission java.io.FilePermission "<<ALL FILES>>", "read, write, delete, execute";
as the applet file is in the Example of the server "MyMachine".
Its working and my applet is able to read the file from the local machine it runs.
Now my problem is I cannot set/change the policy file in every machine where my applet runs.
Instead if there is a way to change the policy when the applet downloads, that'll be effective.
That is I donot want to go and change the policy file manually in each and every machine where my applet runs(I donot even know which are the machines going to run the applet).
Is there any means to acheieve my need?
Please explain me in detail or direct me to the relevent web sites or links.
    Thank you

    Hi Hosuke,
I had the same problem, thanks for the advise.
Still I have a remark to make.
The thing is that, in order for the applet to have the permission granted (for whatever), you need to have a policy file which you can include in the JAR file (like you explained before) AND also you need to add an entry in the java.security file (located for me: "C:\Program Files\Java\j2re1.4.1_01\lib\security\java.security") that tells the applet where to find all the .policy files.
    Something like: policy.url.4=file:/c:/java.policy
But since we are talking about an applet we are not able to make changes to this file.
Maybe you or anyone else knows a workaround for this problem.
    Thanks in advance,
    Ronald Vromans.

  • GPO for enabling the 'My Computer' icon on Win 7 desktops, and renaming it with the machine's hostname?

Is there a GPO that can allow me to enable the My Computer icon on my Windows 7 SP1 Pro clients, as well as automatically renaming it from 'My Computer' to the actual hostname of the machine?

Even in Windows 7, there still isn’t a Group Policy setting that will let you add the ‘My Computer’ icon to the desktop (unless you forcibly change the Start Menu to Classic) and then change the name from My Computer to anything else. I am very
surprised this isn’t a setting but we can still modify the registry to achieve this (either inside a GPO or with a script):
To show the ‘My Computer’ icon on the desk"text-decoration:underline;">
    [HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\HideDesktopIcons\NewStartPanel]
    Name = {20D04FE0-3AEA-1069-A2D8-08002B30309D}
    Type =REG_DWORD
    Value = 0
To change the ‘My Computer’ icon to computer or user name:
    [HKCR\CLSID\{20D04FE0-3AEA-1069-A2D8-08002B30309D}]
    Name = LocalizedString
    Type = REG_EXPAND_SZ
Data value = %computername% or any combination you like – eg %username% %computername%
Don’t forget you will need to change the permissions / ownership on this registry key so that you can change it – by default even Administrators cannot modify it.
These both apply to Windows XP and 7 and Windows Server 2003 and 2008.
