Determine Oracle Release Version

Is there a way to determine the Version of Oracle (ie 8.0, 8i, etc.) before you connect to the database? Is the version of the release stored in the TNSNAMES.ORA or the ORATAB files or is there another file stores the version of the Oracle database?
Thank You!:)

I'm not the greatest expert on this, but my thoughts are:
If you are trying to connect from a workstation, then there needs to be some kind of connection to the server. SqlNet (or Net8) does this, but in doing so you have to connect to the database. There is nothing on the workstation (tnsnames.ora, etc) that will tell you because you can use version 7 SqlNet software to connect to an Oracle 8 server, or version 8 Net8 software to connect to an Oracle 7 server (hence the power of Client Server).
You might be able to look at the files on the server and get a clue, but this requires a file-system type connection to the server to read file names/dates, which often isn't allowed from the workstation.
Can create a quick connection, read the version from v$database or wherever, and drop the connection again. Then, armed with your new knowledge, connect again knowing what you are connecting to?

    HI,
i am trying to install oracle patch 'SAP11203V3P_1402-20009981.ZIP' while executing the installation i am geeting following error.
    kindly advise.
or if possible to share the steps to apply the patch. my SAP ECC 6 EHP7 installation got stuck.

    Hi Sunil,
As per analysis of second screenshot please confirm me a point :
1.For the installation of oracle 11g you used to go /oracle/stage/112_64/database/SAP/ through user ora<sid> .Here please clarify me have you set any environment variable except display variable before execution of ./RUNINSTALLER (Means please unset LD_LIBRARY_PATH,ORACLE_PATH etc if you did).
For successful installation first use to set environment variable xhost + from the root terminal & switch to su - ora<sid> and on this terminal don't set any other environment variable like LD_LIBRARY_PATH,ORACLE_PATH etc. Please do a clean installation of ORACLE 11G w/t setting any variables except display parameter.
    Hope this will help you.

  • Oracle Public YUM errata for a particular release version

    Hello,
The "el5_latest" repository seems to contain several updated packages for various Oracle Linux releases, but it is apparently not possible to use Oracle Public Yum to restrict updates to a specific release version. Is this correct? Is this available with a ULN subscription, or if there is another way how to apply errata for a specific Oracle Linux release version?
    For instance:
    # yum install rpm*.el5_7.2
    Loaded plugins: rhnplugin, security
This system is not registered with ULN.
    ULN support will be disabled.
    Setting up Install Process
Package matching rpm-libs-4.4.2.3-22.0.1.el5_7.2.x86_64 already installed. Checking for update.
Package matching rpm-python-4.4.2.3-22.0.1.el5_7.2.x86_64 already installed. Checking for update.
Package matching rpm-4.4.2.3-22.0.1.el5_7.2.x86_64 already installed. Checking for update.
    Resolving Dependencies
    --> Running transaction check
---> Package rpm.x86_64 0:4.4.2.3-22.0.1.el5_7.2 set to be updated
    ... etc.
    --> Processing Dependency: libsepol-devel >= 1.15.2-1 for package: libselinux-devel
---> Package nss-devel.x86_64 0:3.13.1-5.0.1.el5_8 set to be updated
    ... etc.
    Thanks!

If you have a ULN subscription, you can limit your channels to the specific update release base and patch channels. The public-yum.oracle.com site now just contains the base channels, i.e. the same package set as each ISO, along with the latest channel, which will update an OL5 machine to the latest packages.

    Thanks!

    Ok, now i'm confused...
    cat /etc/redhat-release For linux version.
    httpd -version for Apache version.
For application release, you can get that from the DB. Query fnd_product_groups or you can get that from Help -> About page.

  • HAS release version is different than software after upgrade?

This is a standalone server with grid, asm.
it was 11.2.0.2. I installed 11.2.0.3. rootupgrade.sh somehow failed with error saying running asmca waits for password input for asmsnmp. then I used asmca GUI to run the ASM upgrade. it tells me upgrade successfully.
However, after I shutdown old cluster processes and asm and restart them in new version, I got this, HAS software version still shows 11.2.0.2. But ASM is up and fine.
Is upgrade succeeded or not? what should I do now? (frustrated!)

  • Oracle Database version support

My manager was asking about our plans to upgrade our current Oracle database version (10.1.0.4). We're currently humming along nicely, so I thought that I'd use an Obsolescence Policy as a guide to push us forward. I looked all over Metalink, but this was the only document I could find, which was a hyperlink from another Metalink document, which advertised it as a 10g Product RoadMap:
    https://metalink.oracle.com/metalink/plsql/ml2_documents.showDocument?p_database_id=NOT&p_id=312470.1
It's not very helpful in that regard, plus it's from Nov 2007. Does anyone have a link to some more current documentation? I really appraciate your help.

    when the release version finish?
and why oracle not publish the plan for JDev and ADF Faces and ADF BC and SOA
    Thanks oracle.

We don't commit to dates because of Sarbanes-Oxley Act - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sarbanes-Oxley_Act.
If all goes as planned you'll get your first taste of what's coming up in release 11 in a couple of weeks.
For the production version release dates I can only say that it is going to be in the next Financial Year.

  • CVU ERROR:Unable to retrieve database release version

Hi all, I want to install RAC on three nodes, but when I run "cluvfy" as ORACLE user, I got errors:
    ./runcluvfy.sh stage -pre crsinst -n nrac1,nrac2,nrac3 -verbose
    ERROR:
Unable to retrieve database release version.
    Verification cannot proceed.
but the ROOT user can run it with few errors , why?
    how can I do ?

I was getting this same mysterious error immediately after a successful CRS install. The command I was running was "runcluvfy.sh stage -pre dbinst -n node1" from my stage directory. All previous executions worked correctly. My thought now is that the CRS install added JRE files that interrupt its paths; still not sure though.
The MetaLink article referenced above was very helpful in the end but only after I paid special attention to the wording at the very bottom. Originally, I dismissed the article because it is primarily for Solaris; while we are using Red Hat AS 4 update 5. However, in the very last sentence it states the following:
"Note: If you encounter same error for cluvfy stage -pre crsinst -n node on Linux x86-64 platform before CRS installation, please check if jdk 1.5 is installed. cluvfy works with jdk 1.4. Please install jdk 1.4 or install CRS and run cluvfy from CRS installation."
Ah, we had also installed JSE 6. And sure enough executing 'java -version' showed that it was picking up the path to JSE 6 not the 1.4.
So, following the note in the above article, I did two things. First, I changed the CV_HOME variable to $ORACLE_HOME/bin and ran 'which cluvfy' to verify the correct location. Second, I executed "cluvfy.sh stage -pre dbinst -n node1". It worked!

  • How to check the Oracle Release?

    Hi,
How to check the release version in Oracle AS ?
    And
How to find what oracle AS release has happened in year (example 2005)?
    Best Regards

There are a couple of ways I use to find the version:
    1. Open the Oracle Universal Installer on the machine where the OAS is installed, click on Installed Products. That should display the product and the version number.
    2. Set the oracle environment variables, then run the command below
    +$ORACLE_HOME/jdk/jre/bin/java -jar $ORACLE_HOME/j2ee/home/oc4j.jar -version+
This should display the version of the OC4J which generally is the version of the OAS (unless you have applied any one-off patches)
Have no idea about the second part of your question. Sorry.

  • Can't find the J2EE directory on Oracle 9iAS version 1.0.2.2.x

    Hi,
I'm trying to set the JDBC Data Source. According to the documentation I need to go to the J2EE directory. I can't find this directory on Oracle 9iAS version 1.0.2.2.x. We can't upgrade so I don't know how to proceed.
    Your feedback is appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Merced

    Hi!
I'm not 100% sure but I believe that in the 1.0.2.x release there was no J2EE structure in the application server. Things were done then with JServ.
I understand that you cannot upgrade but be aware that 1.0.2.x is ancient (like stone-age) and Oracle desupported this long ago.
