DG Physical Standby add new data file

Hi all,
11.2.0.1
I am adding new filesystem for my Primary database tablespace TEMP and UNDO in "/u51/oradata/PROD/temp02.dbf"  and "/u51/oradata/PROD/undots02.dbf"
Do I need to create its counterpart folder at my Standby database?
Thanks,
petra k

Thanks Mahir,
You  are welcome!
At Primary DB:
SQL> show parameter UNDO
NAME                                 TYPE        VALUE
undo_management                      string      AUTO
undo_retention                       integer     900
undo_tablespace                      string      UNDOTBS1
At Standby DB:
SQL> show parameter UNDO
NAME                                 TYPE        VALUE
undo_management                      string      AUTO
undo_retention                       integer     900
undo_tablespace                      string      UNDOTBS1
if you want database use new UNDO tablespace, then you must change UNDO_TABLESPACE parameter to <NEW UNDO  TABLESPACE>
Note, that they have the same config parameter values:
So when I got space problem when both UNDOTBS1 and TEMP is blowing up making the filesystem /u49  100% full
I want to create new UNDOTBS2 and TEMP2 on a new filesystem  /u50. I will also just create the folder both at primary and standby.
Then I do this procedure:
How to shrink UNDO tablespace?
===============================
The datafile for UNDO tablespace can’t be shrunk as we had issue where the datafile was set to unlimited and it kept on growing to fix the issue one can do the following steps.
– UNDOTBS2 is new undo tablespace name
SQL> create undo tablespace UNDOTBS2 datafile ‘/u50/oradata/PROD/undotbs2.dbf’ size 1000m;
– make the new tablespace to be the undo tablespace
SQL> alter system set undo_tablespace=undotbs2;
– get the filename of the old undo tablespace which will be shrink so you can reclaim  the space
SQL> SELECT file_name FROM dba_data_files WHERE tablespace_name = ‘UNDOTBS1';
FILE_NAME
/u49/oradata/PROD/undotbs1.dbf
SQL> alter database datafile '/u49/oradata/PROD/undotbs1.dbf' resize 500M;
Yes, it is also resize to 500M undo datafile on standby datbaase. (Must be STANDBY_FILE_MANAGEMENT=AUTO on standby database)
==============================
HOW TO SHRINK TEMP
SQL> CREATE TEMPORARY TABLESPACE temp2
2 TEMPFILE '/u50/oradata/PROD/temp2.dbf' SIZE 5M REUSE
3 AUTOEXTEND ON NEXT 1M MAXSIZE unlimited
4 EXTENT MANAGEMENT LOCAL UNIFORM SIZE 1M;
Tablespace created.
SQL> ALTER DATABASE DEFAULT TEMPORARY TABLESPACE temp2;
Database altered.
There will create temporary tablespace TEMP2 and will set default temporary  tablespace TEMP2 on standby database, too.
SQL> alter database datafile '/u49/oradata/PROD/temp.dbf' resize 500M;
It is not resize temporary  file on standby database. Becuase it is not created yet.

  • How do I erase a CD read/write disc on my macbook so I can add new data

    help!
    How do I erase a CD read/write disc on my macbook so I can add new data. If a disc is a RW, I shouldn't i be able to write to it after it already has some data on it?
    I get a screen note saying I can't add anything because something is already on the disc... but it's only one little 3 meg file. But apple i info. shows no room on the cd.
    How can I erase the cd and reuse it? I find no erase command and when I try to drag the file to the trash, i get another note saying i don't have permission... even tho I've check off the permission box.
    sheesh.

    Open Disk Utility, choose the CD on the left side and click "Erase" on the right.

  • How to save data on a graph and then add new data to it

    i am currently plotting data on a graph from a physical system. However when i want to add new data to the plot, the old one is replaced. I am trying to do more than one plot on the same graph, where the incoming data is at different times. I want something like Excel where i can just add a new plot to the graph.Can i save the data or freeze it onto the graph or something so that i can add a new plot and see the two at the same time?

    As the other post pointed out, there are two objects in LV for plotting,
    graphs and charts. If you wish to have a chart recorder that
    accumulates data into one or more plot with time, you probably want a chart.
    If you push a button and acquire a trace and want to add that to your
    graph, you just need to
    combine it with the data you plotted before and
    update the graph. It isn't the most efficient, but you can easily read
    the value of the graph using a local, add another row or column or
    element to your data and send it to the graph.
    To directly answer your other question, no, the grah doesn't have a
    functional interface for clearing, adding, or deleting plots. Instead,
    you do that with the diagram nodes and give the graph the results.

  • Problem while adding a new data file

    Hi
    I add a data file into an existing tablespace. It created data file and did not give any error message.
    But in the live system, we gets errors:
    ORA-01157: cannot identify/lock data file 12 - see DBWR trace file
    ORA-01110: data file 12: 'D:\ORACLE\PRODUCT\10.2.0\.....ms5 ORA-06512: at line 1
    what is the problem

    Yes I wonder it also. I do not have an access to their system where db exists. I am a developer.
    But When I look at toad, I see that some percent of the datafile is full and it is not online. I think it achieved to write to datafile before but now it gives errors. it is very strangeYou are a developer and you are allowed to make changes on the production system? Do you not have a DBA in house?
    Get your DBA to look into this matter at the earliest.

  • Dense Restructure 1070020 Out of disk space. Can't create new data file

    During a Dense Restructure we receive: Error(1070020) Out of disk space. Cannot create a new [Data] file.
    Essbase 6.5.3 32-bit
    Windows 2003 32bit w/16GB RAM
    Database is on E: drive with 660GB space total, database is ~220GB.
    All cubes are unlimited
    Tried restoring from backup same problem.
    Over years and years the database is never recalculated, never exported and imported, never verified. Only new data loaded and dense restructured.
    Towards the end of a dense restructure (about 89 pan files through about 101 2GB pag files), getting an error: Error(1070020) Out of disk space. Cannot create a new [Data] file.
    There are still several hundred GB of free space available, and we can write to this free space outside of the essbase application within windows.
    The server's file system is consistent, defragmented, and can prove use of additional space. Hard drive controller and system does not report any "hardware issues".

  • How to add new data type

    I need to add new data type like SDO_GEOMETRY in spatial Oracle.
    I don't mean the User-Defined Datatype but new datatype imbed in the database.
    It might be written in C++ or Java but I do not know how.
    Any hints and help will be appreciated. Thanks,

    > It is not simply defining new VARCHAR3.
    I will compare embedded new built-in data type and UDT as part of my research.
    What I really meant was what do you want from your new type that a user-defined object can't give you? (Apart from the obvious shortcomings of Oracle object types being addressed, but that could take a while.) You specifically said "I don't mean the User-Defined Datatype but new datatype imbedded in the database" and I wondered what you meant by that.

  • How to add new data entry and display old data in the same screen in SM30?

    Hi, Experts:
    We need to use SM30 to maintain a table entry. When I click the button of "New Entries", the table screen becomes blank. I can only add new data but not be able to see the old data existing in the table.
    How can I have the new line available for me to add new data at the same time see the data currently existing in the table?
    Thanks,
    Jenny

    Hi, thanks for the reply!
    Just to follow up for what we did to disable the delete function for maintaining table records. We hided the Delete button by adding a "MODULE disable_delete" code in Screen Painter. So now only adding records to the table is allowed.
    Thanks,
    Jenny

  • How to use "sequence" after we add new data ?

    Dear all :
    Could someone tell me how to increase the number after we add new data and put the number into one field per time ?
    Thank you

    In the Initial Value property for an item on a block, you can assign it to a sequence value. Just put the name of the sequence in the Initial Value:
    Specifies the default value that Form Builder should assign to the item whenever a record is created. The default value can be one of the following:
    Here's the part of the help screen for Initial Value that shows how to assign a sequence.
         raw value (216, 'TOKYO')
         form item (:block_name.item_name)
         global variable (:GLOBAL.my_global)
         form parameter (:PARAMETER.my_param)
         a sequence (:SEQUENCE.my_seq.NEXTVAL)

  • How do I add new data to the same file in a State Machine?

    Hello,
    I have a State Machine, with a State where 3 samples of data are collected in a For Loop. I would like to save this data in a file and keep adding new data to the same file each time I get to this state. The problem I'm running into is that each time I reach this State, my old data in the Excel file gets replaced with the new data instead of being continuously added in the same file.
    Ive tried Shift Registers but I may not be using them correctly since my file keeps displaying only 3 new data points.
    Any ideas will be appreciated!
    Thank you, so much.
    -Peter

    Where should I place these shift registers? Where should I place my File I/O VIs? Is it possible to use the Write to Spreadsheet File VI in this situation?
    Ive attached a very simple example of the problem. Thank you.

  • Data Guard adding new data files to a tablespace.

    In the past, if you were manually updating an Oracle physical standby database there were issues with adding a data file to a tablespace. It was suggested that the data file should be created small and then the small physical file copied to the standby database. Once the small data file was in place it would be resized on the primary database then the repication would change the size on the standby.
    My question is, does Data Guard take care of this automaticlly for a physical standby? I can't find any specific reference on how it handles a new datafile.

    Never mind, I found the answer.
    STANDBY_FILE_MANAGEMENT=auto
    Set on the standby database will create the datafiles.

    Kindly help me to add the new log file to my database.
    Thanks,

    Hi Sawwan,
    V$LOGMEMBER was written in the document,
    I query the log members as bellow
    1)select a.group#, member, a.status from v$log a, v$logfile b where a.group# = b.group# order by 1;
    GROUP# MEMBER STATUS
    1 /oracle/DEV/db/apps_st/data/log01a.dbf INACTIVE
    1 /oracle/DEV/db/apps_st/data/log01b.dbf INACTIVE
    2 /oracle/DEV/db/apps_st/data/log02a.dbf CURRENT
    2 /oracle/DEV/db/apps_st/data/log02b.dbf CURRENT
    2)SQL> select group#,member,status from v$logfile;
    GROUP# MEMBER STATUS
    2 /oracle/DEV/db/apps_st/data/log02a.dbf
    2 /oracle/DEV/db/apps_st/data/log02b.dbf
    1 /oracle/DEV/db/apps_st/data/log01a.dbf
    1 /oracle/DEV/db/apps_st/data/log01b.dbf
    But i am littile bit confused that there is no group or datafile called " Group 3 and log03a.dbf" as per the above query, how can i drop tease group and datafile.
    and i crossverified in the data top the files are exist or not but those are not existing. but still i am getting the same error that i can't create that already exist.
    can issue the bellow queris to drop those group which i dont think so it will exist?
    SQL>alter database drop logfile group 3;
    Thanks in advance.

  • Physical Standby Online Redo log  files,

    Hi,
    I'm trying to create a physical standby database (10.2.0.3). I'm a little confused about the requirement for online redo logs on the standby.
    in my standby alert log I get the following when I issue:
    SQL> alter database recover managed standby database disconnect from session
    "ORA-00313: open failed for members of log group 1 of thread 1
    ORA-00312: online log 1 thread 1: '/appl/oradata/prod/prod_1_redo_01_02.log'
    ORA-27037: unable to obtain file status
    SVR4 Error: 2: No such file or directory
    Additional information: 3"
    /appl/oradata/prod/prod_1_redo_01_02.log is the path to the location of the online redo logs on the production system. This file does not exist on the standby filesystem so the error is correct.
    I assume that it gets this information from the standby control file I created on the production system and copied over to the standby.
    Do I need to copy the online redo logs from the primary over to the standby site or do I need to create online redo logs on the standby?
    Does the standby need to have redo log files?
    I'm not talking about 'standby log files' of the type created using 'alter database add standby log file'. I've not got that far yet.
    I just need to establish if a physical standby requires online redo log files?
    Thanks in advance,
    user234564

    I wanted to update this thread since I've been dealing with the exact same errors. The basic question is: "does a physical standby need the online redo logs?"
    Answer: Not really, until one wants to switchover or failover (and become a primary database). Furthermore, whenever the MRP process is started, Oracle prepares for a possible switchover/failover by "clearing" the online redo logs (MetaLink note# 352879.1). It is not a big deal, since Oracle will build the actual redo files when the "alter database open resetlogs" is accomplished during a "role transition."
    In our situation, we have decided to use our standby for nightly exports. We stop MRP, open the database read-only, then restart MRP. We built these standby DBs with RMAN. The RMAN duplicate process will not build the online redo log files until the database is opened for read/write (with resetlogs). However, we haven't had a need for read/write (i.e. a switchover).
    Thus, every morning we have been getting the same errors that "user234564" posted above. At first the errors seemed scary, then we realized they were just a nusiance. In order to clean things up, all I did was just "cp" our stanby redo logs (SRL) into our online redo directories ensuring the names matched what was in v$logfile. When I restarted MRP, the alert log clearly showed Oracle clearing these "newly found" online redo logs.
