Didn't recieve my BT Broadband Talk number?

Hi There,
I signed up for BT infinity and BT Broadband Talk about a month ago, the broadband was installed and works fine, but didn't come with the hub phone, which I bought last week. But the phone light on my home hub is out, and when I try to activate it it asks me for my BT Broadband Talk number and password which were never given to me, I've checked my email very throroughly and didn't get it in a letter. What should I do?

If you have ordered it you should get it. However, did BT supply you with a HH3 box, if so, then the HH3 does not have a BB talk phone connection. As the other post said, BT are doing away with BB Talk, because Broadband get free calls evening and weekends with their land lines.

  • Moving Broadband Talk Number to Landline

    I've ordered Infinity and as a result the BBT has been switched off instantly! Even though the install date is over two week's time.
    Anyway, I never use the Landline number (it's there to provide the broadband & we used to get nuisance calls) always the BBT number.
    Is it possible to 'port' the BBT number to the landline number?

    Do you use BBT on any other devices, eg running Softphone on a PC, or Sipdriod on an Andriod phone. If that is the case, you can have the BBT restored.
    Which version of the home hub do you have at the moment. If its a version 1.0, then it can still be used as a slave to provide BBT?

  • Broadband Talk number on phone bill is incorrect.

    I just noticed that the BBTalk number on my phone bill is different to the one my Hub reports it's using. My hub is using an 056 number I have had since BBTalk started. But my bill has a local 0113 number listed on it. I can only assume some mix up when I have recontracted at some point.

    All BBtalk numbers are 05, but it is possible to have a geographic area code prefix instead, which 0113 [Leeds] is. Have you requested a geographic code at any point?

  • How can I disable Broadband Talk

    Signed up for Anytime Internet and calls, but when dialling out the hub phone uses the Broadband Talk number rather than the landline number which I'd like to use as I don't get charged on that line. Didn't ask for Broadband talk line for it to be the default one. Anyone know why this is and how I can disable it to use the landline number only? Thanks

    "To remove all Broadband Talk accounts:
    Open an Internet browser window and type in http://bthomehub.home
    When the BT Home Hub web page has loaded, click on the 'Advanced' link on the left hand menu.
    The web page on the right will change. Click on the 'Continue to Advanced ...' link on this new page.
    The BT Home Hub will ask you to enter your username and password. What is the username and password for my BT Home Hub or Voyager router?
    On the left hand menu choose 'Telephony' and the right hand page will change.
    On the new page scroll down until you see the heading 'Telephone Numbers'.
    Below this heading you will see all the Broadband Talk numbers set up on your BT Home Hub. To clear the number from the BT Home Hub click on the 'Delete' link to the right of the Broadband Talk number. Repeat this until all the numbers are cleared.
    Click on 'Apply' and close the Internet browser window.
    You have successfully removed all of the Broadband Talk accounts from your Home Hub.
    This will disable your broadband talk."
    Alternatively you can dial "5" before each number, which will cause the call to default to your landline.
    If you are never going to use the extra free number, then you ask BT to cease it.

  • Voicemail Broadband Talk

    In April I subscribed to BT's Infinity service and after a day or so I setup my Broadband Talk number. I've used it a few times to make calls by plugging in an old handset into the Home Hub to make out going calls. When I wasn't using Broadband Talk for an out going call I unplugged the handset as I didn't have the voicemail service switched on.
    I recently purchased a hub phone for my Home Hub so I could make more use of the service and also start to use it for incoming calls. As I have a phone always connected I thought I'd better switch on the voicemail service. I've logged into the Broadband Talk settings page (https://service.btbroadbandvoice.bt.com/selfcare/consumer/adminOverview.do) and then clicked on the link to add voicemail. I choose the option and click on submit and I always get the following message back
    I've been trying to add voicemail for the last couple of days but every time I try I keep getting the same message. Which number or email address at BT do I need to contact about this?

  • What's happening with BT Broadband Talk??

    When I joined BT some years ago I was advised to use BT Broadband Talk, as this was a VOIP service the calls made via BT Broadband Talk were cheaper than made via a landline (at least that was what they told me when they sold this to me).
    Recently I found out that the call rates for Broadband Talk calls and landline calls are the same, but also that some of my calling plan features do NOT apply to Broadband Talk calls!!
    As I have been using only my Broadband Talk number to make calls, I was just paying for calling plans while they were not being applied on my calls. I don't know when BT all changed this, but it looks to me like they are phasing out the whole BT Broadband Talk service!
    Can anyone let me know what is happening with Broadband Talk???
    (I guess I better use skype anyway...)

    That's indeed what I thought but when I was chatting with a BT support person, this was what she told me (copied from the chat log):
    "Quatta: Can you send me the international calling rates to Netherlands, Spain, Belgium and Germany when calling from the main line vs when calling from the broadband talk line?
       Junaid  : the prices are same if you call from land line or bt talk broadband i will tell you the charges bare with me
    Quatta: Okay thanks - yes please send me the rates
       Junaid  : Netherland-2.50, Spain-2.50, Belgium-2.50 and Germany-2.50 all the amount is 2.50 pence."
    After this i search the bt site to see whether BT BB-Talk had cheaper internatonal rates listed (as i did not trust this chat-reply) but no where on the site you find seperate BT BB-Talk rates for international calls. This chat happened on dec-7, 2011 - that's why i started thinking that BT is making this voip service less attractive so that their existing customers drop out on it and they can terminate it (as they already stopped taking on / promoting BB-talk to new clients). So don't think the cheap calls advantage is there anymore. cheers Rob

  • Broadband Talk - "Sorry, you can't leave a message...

     Hi!
    I have my BT Broadband Talk account set up to send unanswered calls to voicemail. Under 'Calling Features > Messaging':
    Divert calls to Voicemail when unanswered
    However, whenever I call the number and let it ring out, I get this message:
    "Sorry, you can't leave a message at the moment"
    Then it hangs up!
    Is there something else I need to do to enable VM on my Broadband Talk number?
    If it means anything, I have BT 1571 set up on the 'normal' home number.

    Possible of 2 issues.
    1st mail box could be full.
    2nd mail box is not built correctly and you will need to call the helpdesk and get a fault booked for their offline to rebuild 0800 111 4567

  • No More Broadband Talk: dumbest marketing decision...

    As part of my "upgrade" to BT Infinity my BT Broadband Talk number stopped working.
    I knew that the Homehub 5 wouldn't take a plug in 'phone but I figured at least my BT Softphone would keep working. Softphone is what I use when I'm travelling; it's a global "follow me" number. Yes folks, Broadband Talk could find me in China or anywhere else when my laptop was logged in. 
    No more! Broadband Talk has been terminated.
    Not only is this inconvenient as it's the number on all my business cards and email signatures, it's also a double dumb decision by marketing folks.
    I used to pay call minutes for using Softphone, even when on another carrier's broadband eg when abroad
    I now have to use a free service like Skype or another VoIP provider when at home so BT still carries my voice traffic for no extra revenue
    I checked the support pages and found this advice http://bt.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/32498/c/346,433,441
    So the advice being give out is contradictory. 
    Looks like marketing folk have been found with one smoking gun and one hole in the foot!

    You may be able to port the number over to BT Business VOIP, other people have done it, where its business critical.
    BT residential T&Cs do not permit business use anyway.

    Broadband Talk is being phased out, and existing customers now pay £3.50 a month for the service.
    Its not available to new users, or if you upgrade to Infinity.

  • Broadband Constantly dropping since Broadband Talk...

    Firstly - if anyone from BT reads this and cares about customer service and support, get a grip it is the worst support I have ever had the need to contact!
    Two weeks ago I finally swap my fully working and stable Netgear router over to a Home Hub, with the intention of getting rid of my Vonage VOIP service (which works a treat, but costs!) and use the Broadband talk service. The hub and phone arrived on the 10th (I think) and plugg in and all worked well ... however it would seem that I did not have the required broadband talk number and password. It took nearly two weeks of long phone calls to various people getting no where, when finally last night they activated it and sent out the relevant information via email!
    However now my broadband connection is constantly dropping, and broadband talk light sometimes goes back to blue, but often just stays at orange ... and as the broadband is dropping (as I type, but hopefully I'll get a window to post it in) my internet connection is now useless.
    Performing the line check on the BT website said there was a fault and gave me a reference number and a number to call. That's when two and half hours of passing around started. They tell me I don't have a line fault, that it is a fault at my end.... they seem **bleep** bent on finding something they can blame it on. Are you connected via wireless or ethernet, well I have both. Which operating system, well I have Seven, Vista, XP Pro, 98, Me, an PS3 and an Iphone. Then we move down the it must be the cables to the socket in the house (well not changed since last night when BBT was activated!), and then I have to move the cupboard in the hall to get access to the master socket to tell them what it looks like! What is the point of that one!!
    I am told that it is purely a coincidence that it dropped when the BBT was activated (one **bleep** of a coincidence!) and after much more discussion finally I was told that he was 'honestly sorry' that I had a problem, and would book an engineer to look at it tomorrow between 8am and 1pm, but they need 48 hours to resolve it! Basic maths that one!
    Has anyone else experienced these problems? Why is BT customer support so scripted and if your problems don't follow the tick boxes they are lost, and just start again? If I pay my phone bill late, I get charged a fee for doing so ... what compensation do I get for loss of service?
    The broadband lights finally came back on so I'll try the post option.

    Further to my last, this is a section of the event log from the router, the VOIP certainly appears to be having a problem.....  (I've removed my phone number so the ***'s are normally a number.

  • Broadband Phone Number displays

    Hi,
    My Gigaset SL910A phone has a facility to send and receive text messages provided CLIP is enabled. However we are unable to send text messages and any sent to us are converted to a voice message by BT.  It looks like CLIP is enabled as when we dial out on our phone the receivers caller display shows our phone number but displays our Broadband phone number rather than the true home number.  
    I have gone into the Home Hub 2 settings but can't see how to disable the broadband phone number. Does anyone know if I can somehow turn the broadband phone off and get our number shows as the normal home phone number?  I think this may solve the text problem as it looks as if the Gigaset phone number is being blocked by HH@ which then transmits the broadband number to whoever we phone.  
    We are ex-dirctory if that makes any difference.

    You must have asked for your number to be withheld when you ordered your phone line.
    You can disable it on a call-by-call basis by prefixing the number with 1470.
    You have it permanently enabled, you would have to ask BT.
    The broadband talk number gives you free evening calls, if you are only on a basic package. Also, some International calls are cheaper.
    The service is to be discontinued by BT at the end of the year anyway.
    Your hub phone (s) will still work when you disable telephony, but the calls will be made on your normal landline number.
    The crackling on the line does not sound very good, but it could be the relay in the HH2, which can cause that.
    Its worth checking your line with a normal phone, as a bad line can affect your broadband speed.

  • Bt infinity and broadband talk

    Just read this on the BT website:
    BT Broadband Talk
    BT Broadband Talk will not work with BT Infinity. After you upgrade to BT Infinity, your BT Broadband Talk service will end, and you won't be able to use your BT Broadband Talk number to make or receive calls.
    Well I just I tried it and it works fine. I did have to re-activate it, but can make and receive calls using the same 0203 number perfectly fine.
    Cany anyone else confirm?

    No nothing should change with your existing contracts.

  • BT Infinity & Broadband Talk

    I attempted to get a broadband talk number and I have been told that broadband talk is not available with BT Infinity.
    Can anyone confim if this is true or not and if so how do I get a bbt number as you cant do it via the www ?
    www.bt.com/broadbandtalk has no way of requesting the service.

    BBT does work with Infinity, but I am having problems requesting a number, the www site doesn’t seem to be an option, and when I call Im being told it doesn’t work.
    Can someone clarify please ?

    I wasn't sure if this fell under the Broadband section or the Phone section, so thought I'd try it here first. If there are any problems, please feel free to move this as necessary.
    Basically, I currently use the BT Broadband Talk number assigned to my parent's HomeHub as a separate line for handling some freelance web development calls. I've just bought my first house with my girlfriend, and signed up for a BT Broadband and Calls package. 
    The number assigned to the BT Broadband Talk line is a geographical one (i.e. starting with area code). My parents don't use the Broadband Talk number or telephone at all, so my question is simple really: is it possible for me to transfer the Broadband Talk service to my package, keeping the same telephone number that is assigned to the softphone?
    Any help and advice would be gratefully received.

    You could try borrowing your parents home hub and plugging it into your new broadband line.
    Provided it has not been reset it may retain the broadband talk configuration and you could use that.
    If you backup the configuration when you get it, you could restore it again, should the broadband talk settings are lost.
    You may even be able to configure it from the normal broadband talk web set-up page by using the "configure equipment" option.

  • Broadband Talk Migration Options

    Apologies if this already exists (I have spent 20 mins searching the fora - honestly!).
    Our [local geographic] Broadband Talk number has been our main published contact for a number of years, and with the planned demise of Talk we need to migrate to a new service now, rather than in a panic at the end of the year. The sort of thing I think we are looking for is a FAQ for topics suchs as:
    Alternative Service Providers
    Transfering Number [hopefully without interruption of service]
    Use of BT equipment [HH 2 and handsets] with alternative service
    Use of mobile Apps / phones with VOIP
    ...and probably other stuff we won't have thought of until we try to do it.
    If this FAQ already exists, would be grateful if someone could point us to it.

    @Keith - apart from the unnecessary disruption (it's not just F&F who call us and have our telephone number recorded) and the fact that my Aged Pater uses (and has for 50+ years)  the landline number, you are overlooking the main feature of VOIP - portability.
    At present (using the SIPDroid App)  I can pick up incoming calls on my mobile wherever I have decent 3G or WiFi - and using BT BB Talk's primitive virtual exchange, I can forward calls to any other number when away for a period.
    Theoretically, changing VOIP provider should be relatively easy - though there are potential pitfalls, and it would be good to hear from someone who has already been through the process.
    (And since it is BT who are arbitrarily withdrawing a service, it might have been good PR to have offered a migration path voluntarily?)

  • Getting a Broadband Talk Geographic Number

    Hi can anyone help
    Can anyone tell me where I can get some help changing my broadband talk 056 number to a geographical number 020.
    When I first got broadband talk I should have been given the option to choose a number but was given an 056 number.
    I have called the BB Talk help number 0800 111 4567 and was told it was not a problem, they would just cancel my old number and re-order me another geographical number. They told me I would receive an e-mail within 72 hours with my new details, after a week no e-mail came so I called them to be told that the order was stuck in the system (whatever that means?) and they would make a new order. No e-mail has come and i'm a bit cheesed off with the whole thing. When I try to track the order it says Order Not trackable.
    Any help would be very much appreciated....

    Still not had any response from BT for my new Broadband Talk geographic number.
    That's two times it's been ordered and twice i've been told I would receive an e-mail with my new details within 72 hours and nothing has ever come.
    Have not had any reply from the Mod Team.
    I have been with BT for over 40 years and I think the customer service is "absolutely disgraceful" !!!
    I'd call them again but what's the point, if I had been offered the right number in the first place this would not be happening.
    If there's anyone on here that knows what I can do or who can sort this out for me please let me know.
