Difference between account based and cost based in co-pa

hi friends,
what is main deffirencebetween account based and cost based in co-pa. what scenerio we use account based and what scenerio we use cost based.
Thanking u
suneel.

Hi,
It all depends on the OPerating oncern which you are going to use for the CO-PA implementaion.
For a account based Operating concern you can define accopund based copa.
For a Cost Based Operating concdern you will have tp define account based Copa.
You can create account based Copa on cost based operating concern and vice versa.
In most of the FI implemntaion is done before BW inplemetation and therefore Operating concerns are already defined by the FI people.
Thanks

  • 1 Operating Concern for Account Based and Cost Based COPA

    Hi,
We are using Operating Concern 3000 for Account Based and Cost based Profitability Analysis. However when i try to extract data from the account based Operating concern it gives me an error in extraction : error 09.
Could it be that we cannot use one operating concern for both types or COPA?
    Thanks

    Hi
Have you deactivated any of the characteristics used in Account based COPA
Check KEQ3 and you may have activated only for Costing based COPA

  • COPA : Accounting Based and Costing Based

    Hello Guru's,
We are on ECC 6.0 and BI 7.3. Our customer is going to implement Accounting based COPA and Costing based COPA in ECC. We have a requirement to have both the Accounting based and Costing based COPA analysis  available in BI.
    My questions and concerns:
If we configure both type of COPA in ECC then Can we create both type of data sources also in ECC  ? one for Accounting based COPA and one for Costing based copa ?  If yes then do we need to have 2 infocubes in BI  or one infocube with mapping of both the data source will work ? ... do please correct me or suggest me.

  • Difference between value category and cost element

Hi I am new to SAP Pm.can anyone explain me the difference between value category and cost element and how are they linked with examples

    HI Pallavi,
Value Category are use to devide your total cost in to diffrent elements for example Material, External Services, Internal Services etc. If you dont have any value category configured then all cost will show together.
Cost Element are the cost collector where your cost will be booked means different cost under different Elements.
So What you need to do You need to create one Value category Like material or any thing then you need to assign all Cost Elements which will be used to book cost related to Material or that perticular category. You can assign Cost Element directly, range or as a group to these category under SPRO.

  • COPA -Acccount based and cost based

    Hi ,
I want to know from BW Point of veiw ,
what is the difference betwee costing based Ectractor and account based Extractor .
Can some body explain me .
    Regards

    Data Source-Accounting Base:
When we generate CO-PA Data Source select accounting based option.
Fields KOKRS, BUKRS, KSTAR are compulsory.
There are no Characteristics available for line Items because accounting based data sources do not contain characteristics.
There are no value fields or calculated key figures available
KOKRS and PERIO must be selected as selection fields.
To Provide Data Source for BW all CO-PA Data Sources must be generated in the Source System.
Data Sources can be defined at Operating Concern and client level.
Data Source Contains the following Information
    Name of the Operating Concern
    Client
    Subset of the Characteristics
    Subset of the Value fields
Time Stamp which data has already been loaded in to BW.
    Cost based:
Cost based CO-PA is the form of Profitability Analysis that groups costs and Revenues according to value fields and costing based valuation approaches, both of which you can define your self.
It gaurentees you can access at all times to complete,short-term profitability report.
In Overhead cost controlling primary postings are made to objects in overhead cost controlling and assigned to relevant cost object. Actual cost of goods manufactured also assigned to cost objects and at the same time performing cost centers are credited
    Hope it will helps you........

  • Difference between accounting clerk and dunning clerk?

    Hi friends,
Can anyone of you please tell me what is the difference between dunning clerk and accounting clerk.

    Hi Isha,
This is usually refered to depict the responsibility. Accounting clerk you will find in G/L account master in FS00 who is assigned responibility to maintain and clear this account, he/she has track every movement in the account. Dunning clerk is the clerk who is responsible to dun the particular customer and send notices.

  • Cost in simulation not consistent between accounting column and cost assign

When doing simulation on a trip report that has cash advanced used included  I get a inconsistency between
accounting column and trip cost statement in the simulation window.
In the accouting column in simulation, the cash advance used is included as a part a total cost but when I look at trip cost statement that value is not included as an expense to be transferred.
This seems a bit strange to me.
    Any suggestions?

    Hi,
    Following could have a reason.
On travel request you may had checked on  Cash Office column while requesting advance...
    How to resolve it..
You cannot change advance so you have to do following thing.
    1) Enter the same amount in negative along WITH checked on  Cash Office column ..
    2) Enter New amount WITHOUT check on cash office.
    then run again simulation..
I hope it would serve your purpose...

  • Differences between Arch linux and RHEL-based Distros?

    Hi there!
So, I am officially trying to make the permanent switch from Windows to Linux. I've used Linux in the past, from Ubuntu, to Fedora, to Mint, and I've always liked Arch the most. Nothing beats the feeling of an OS you had a hand in setting up.
I'm wondering though, what are the differences in Arch vs distros like Red Hat, Fedora, and CentOS? I recently picked up a book called, "The Linux Bible" which provides a course-like approach to learning the intricacies of Linux. I'm wondering if it would be easily possible to adapt the lessons from that to Arch, or to use Fedora or another RHEL-based distro like it suggests.
    Thanks

The biggest issue I find is with SE Linux. I don't know if this is default in RHEL itself but Fedora uses it. If I understood it properly, though, I doubt it would be such an issue!
EDIT: I think it would be best to learn one distro first, using documentation for that distro. So if you want to use the book, install something that matches the book as closely as possible. If you want to use Arch, use the wiki as your primary documentation. I say this because there is a big difference between figuring out the ways in which two distros differ when you understand the GNU/Linux basics and (I imagine) trying to do so when you are still learning those basics. I don't just mean ls, grep etc. - other systems use those - but the stuff which is common to any GNU/Linux distro. Obviously this applies even more if you also are learning stuff like ls, grep, cd etc. (which might be true if you're moving from Windows rather than, say, OS X or one of the BSDs).

  • Difference between "account group" and "reconciliation account"

    Hello,
I am new to SAP and I would like to understand the difference between the "account group" and the "reconciliation account" that appear both in the vendor master records.
From what I read, "account group" is just a classification but has no "accounting" impact whereas "reconciliation account" (goods suppliers, overhead expenses suppliers...) do have an accounting impact.
However I am not sure so I would like a confirmation on that and if possible examples so I could really understand.
    Thank you.

    Hi,
The account group is a way to divide vendors into groups for reporting later on.
The account group is also the link to the number range and the field selection functionality.
Please refer the below link for more clarity.

    Account group
The reconciliation account is the account is the account which is posted to at invoice receipt stage where the vendor account represents the sub ledger and the reconcilation account the ledger.

  • Difference between COPC planning and cost object controlling

I want to know why do we have to calculate the cost of a manufactured product by both COPC planning and Cost object controlling by order?
Will the cost of a manufactured product be different in COPC planning method and cost object controlling method?
if we use only cost object controlling to calculaute the cost of a manufactured product without using COPC planning wht will be the implications?

    Raja,
Yes the cost can be different. The cost calculating thorught Product Cost Planning may be static, you calculate it by period it is more for planning prupose ans to set standard. The cost calculated through Cost Object Controlling is resulting from your actual transactions, and the are few variables that could increase or decrease the cost of product. For example the overhead cost (Increase of salaries) can directly affect your activity rate at the work center and impact cost of your product when the production order is complete. You need both costs (Cost Planning and Cost Object releated) so at the end of the period you can calculate variance betweeen your plan cost and your actual costs.
    Hope this clarifies your doubts.

  • COPA extractor : account based vs cost based

    Hello
Can you please give me an example of typical extractor output for account based and cost based models.
Wha are the difference between different model types?  Please answer with your own words rather then with copy-paste.
Is it the same principle like account based and key figure based in planning?

    Chennuri

    Hi,
i am giving a realtime information on business areas and cost centers.
For our company we have 25 branches. in sap we treat all of our branches as a seperate business area. the reason why we maintain business area. at the month end or year end financial statemensts are generated on company code basis and business area base. so we consider branches as a business area.
Cost center is like a cost object.
    Hope this is clear,

  • Exact difference between Item category and Account assignment category

Can anyone plz give the exact difference between account assignment category and Item category
    Thanks inadvance

    Hi,
Account Assignment Category: Key indicating whether an item is to be assigned to an auxiliary account (such as a cost center). The account assignment category determines which account assignment data (e.g. cost center, account number, etc.) is required for the item.
Item category: Identifier indicating the characteristics of an item. The item category determines whether the following are necessary or allowed with regard to an item:
Material number, Additional account assignment, Inventory management in the R/3 System, Goods receipt, Invoice receipt.

  • Difference between MTO/MTS vs Consumption Based Planning?

    Hi,
What is the Difference between MTO/MTS vs Consumption Based Planning?.
In what scenario we used these types?? could you please explain me with examples...
    Regards,
    Raj

    Hi,
MTS = Make to stock, you are simply wanting to build up stock and so this will generate requirements even if there are no Sales orders or demand of any kind. This is the most common option
MTO = make to order, you only want these items when there is a specific
But consumption based planning is not completely different, you are still using MTS / i.e. you are creating requirements based on the settings in MRP instead of any demand (but the same applies to MTS)
So MTS and consumption based planning are more or less the same thing.
You would use MTO if you produce items only when you have an order.
So if you have warehouse space and sell a lot of an item, you can use MTS or consumption based planning because you know that you will always be likely to be able to sell the stock.
If you make things for specific orders (such as special sizes or specifications to match the customer's requirements. Or if you don't sell many of an item and the lead times for production are very short (or you don't have much warehouse space) then you would wait for an order before making the item (MTO
