Differences between servlet and backing bean

Could anyone please tell me whether everywhere that servlet can be used, backing bean and JSF can be used too? Are JSF and backing beans the new alternatives for JSP and servlets? please clarify the relations between these concepts for me.
Thanks
Laura

Thank you. You mean backing beans can do every thing that servlets can do? Yes.
JSF pages can work with servlets? Strictly speaking, every JSF page gets passed through the FacesServlet which does all the task. The lifecycle, creating the FacesContext, putting the request parameters in backing beans, rendering the response, etcetera.
what are the advantages of servlet and the advantages of backing beans? what's the disadvantages? In general, which one is better? In context of JSF, you should be using backing beans, not Servlets. There is nothing what a Servlet can offer you as an advantage in the JSF context. It is simply not an option/alternative. You can't even call a Servlet (directly) using a JSF h:form. You, however, can access backing beans in any JSP or Servlet outside the JSF context.
Just carefully read the JSF specification or buy a JSF book and the picture will be clear.

The only time Servlets exhibit behavior similar to ActionServlets, in under extremely stressful situations, like when a Servlet is being chased by a pit bull.

  • Difference between vault and backing up aperture library

i have been trying to understand the difference between simply backing up in aperture via the vault and just backiing up the aperture library file.
my workflow involves backing up the original raw files to DVD and also backing the raw files to an external drive. i keep only raw files that are in progress on my mac book pro.
when i complete a project, i just copy the aperture library file from my mac book pro over to my external drive and also back up the aperture library file to a dvd, too. that way i have the raw files backed up, and the aperture library files backed up.
is this sufficient enough or do i need to set up a vault, too?

  • Basic difference between stateful and entity beans???

Could anyone please explain the basic diff between stateful bean and an entity bean.as per my understanding, stateful beans are extensions to clients.they perform a job of a client and they r not persistent.also their state goes off when the server crashes or the machine is reeboted.while in contrast,an entity bean can retain its session coz' they represent a persistent field in the DB.What i have seen in few books(O'reilly, etc)where a session bean can insert some values into the DB,which means it also represents a persistent object in the DB,which contradicts the statement that "stateful session beans dont represent any persistent object in the DB".Could anyone please elaborate on this. Thanks in advance.

Thank u very much crackers for ur valuable
suggestions.I'll throw a different one in here for free: clarity of writing is a highly-valued and useful skill in a software professional. This is especially true these days when concepts need to be clearly explained to a variety of technical peoples from all over the world. And then there's the other side of the coin: Management.
You have to get your thoughts across in a very precise manner and, unfortunately for those who have to learn it as a second lanugage, English seems to be the overall preferred medium. Which makes it even more important to use "correct" English in written communications. If you don't, your credibility diminishes and you appear to be (horrors!) unprofessional It's not that much harder to type "you" than it is to use a single letter. Besides, most people that "pay by the byte" appreciate the clarity, as well (as I've seen on Usenet, by way of covering my ass).
Now, back to our regularly scheduled post...
Is this wat u were trying to say if i
understood u correctly.Yes, the EntityBean is directly related to the data being persisted: in this case, a database table. So, using your example from below, the DB table would have two fields: a VARCHAR 'Name' and an INT 'Age.' The EntityBean would have corresponding fields/properties/variables, String name and int age.
    "WHICH BEAN (Entity
or Sateful Session) SHOULD I GO 4???"No easy answer. The best one is: it depends. On what? It depends upon what you're trying to do with the data, how it's presented/manipulated, load requirements, environmental requirements, caching strategies, and about another dozen or so other high-level requirements.
My personal preference is if I need caching and the number of EntityBeans actually in existence is pretty "low" (another nebulous and arbitrary value, depending), I'll use a StatelessSessionBean as a Facade (search for "patterns" here in the forum), with the persistence in CMP EntityBeans. Which is influenced by the fact that I like playing with CMP. ;D

  • What's the difference between sync and back up

I'm trying to understand the iCloud and figure out what's going on.  I purchase music on Ipone and it shows up on iPad but podcast do not.  App data does not sync.  How do I know if it's even being backed up?  My iBooks purchases sync, but my bookmarks and highlights do not.  Photos sometimes sync.
Ive tried "back up now" under iCloud settings, but that doesn't seem to help much,  I can't tell if sync over wifi is working because Im not sure what all it's suppose to sync.  Do I need to connect iOS devices to Mac mini and sync over iTunes and do a back up?

This is a good explanation, for half of the situation. Could you please describe how this checkbox affects the more common scenario of new Apps that are purchase/downloaded to the iPhone? Are they not synced if this box is unchecked? Apple should reword this checkbox label to better indicate if it applies "just in one direction" or both directions.
For example, my wife and I both have iPhones, use the same account to buy Apps. I was looking for a way to avoid all her apps ending up on my iPhone after I sync, and then I have to delete them from my phone and clean up the App screen layouts, etc. I'm sure she doesn't want all of my new Apps either. However, if I UNCHECK this "Automatically Sync New Apps" box, will the Apps downloaded on the iPhones (we rarely buy on the computer in iTunes) then not get synced automatically? I realize that one can manually check the box for each App in the list within iTunes, to force the sync, but one can do that only while the device is connected. Syncing at our house is usually done in a hurry, who has time to sit down at the computer every time and scrutinize which Apps should be sync'd. What I was hoping is that iTunes could be smart enough that when it sees a new app on an iPhone, it could remember the App came from that iPhone and check the box to sync, but just to that device. Unless someone goes in and manually checks the box for that App on other devices. Maybe that is in fact the way it works, but I was hoping someone knew for sure and could confirm.

  • What is difference between Managed Bean and Backing Bean?

What is difference between Managed Bean and Backing Bean? Please guide me how to create them and when to use them?
Please post sample for both beans.

    Hi,
managed beans and backing beans are quite the same in that the Java object is managed by the JavaServer Faces framework. Manage in this respect means instantiation. The difference is that backing beans contain component "binding" references, which managed beans usually don't. Do backing beans are page specific versions of managed beans.
Managed beans are configured either in the faces-config.xml file, or using ADF Faces and ADFc, in the adfc-config.xml file

  • Difference between a Managed Bean and Backing Bean

    hi
i am new to JSF made my 1st appl today ...
couldnt clearly understand difference between a Managed Bean and Backing Bean , anybody know the difference?
    Regards
    dsdsf

These are two terms that means the same .... A backing bean is a normal web term, in JSF specifically it is termed as managed bean as this' backing bean' configurations in faces-config.xml are termed within 'managed-bean ' tags.
Cutting the long story short its a bean class . period :)

What is the difference between GET and URL Rewriting in Servlets?.Please illustrate with an example.

    Thanks for your reply gimbal.
GET appends query string at the end of the URL. URL rewriting also does the same thing. It also appends query string right?. Then what is the difference between two. I have this question in my mind for long time.To my surprise an interviewer asked this question in an interview also.

  • Difference between stateful and stateless session beans

can any body explain simply what is the difference between stateful and stateless session beans? also in what kind of situations we can use these.

    Hi
This is the classificatio os Session Bean.
    (1) Statfull
    (2) Stateless
Stateful means u will persists the state of the object.
    USESE:
In a Banking system u can use the statful session just for maintaing the
    state.
    (2) STATELESS: that's mean u do't want to persists any state of the object. that's mean a single Request is coming ,do the desire and give the output.
EX: A Credit Card System is the Example of Stateless.

  • Difference between binding and value

    Hi
    I am new to JSF
Can you tell me what is the difference between binding and value attribute of a
    JSF component ?
    Many thanks.

    Hi,
the binding is the component association to a managed bean (or backing bean). This allows you to manipulate the component in Java code stored in a managed bean.
The value is what the actual component value is.

  • What is the difference between avi and mov

    Hi FCP users,
I am actually an audio guy, but I would like an answer on something.
I work with Logic, and usually use quicktime movies when I am working to movies. But I am working with a client who is an Avid user and swears by avi files. Can someone explain to me the difference. My client explained to me that avi's are better than mov files. He claims their file sizes are bigger, so therefore there quality is better. He said there is some form of compression on quicktime movies which lessen the quality to avi, even if the mov is uncompressed apparently the quality is still less than an uncompressed avi. If this is not true, could someone give me the real big difference between the two.
I thought is was more of a preference, like windows users prefer wav, and apple users like quicktime movies. Like with audio, there isnt a huge difference between aif and wav. Windows users prefer wav and apple users aif.
Thanks in advance for any information.

The vid guy has sent me some files to work with. So I am working in Final Cut to edit some of the video, and then sending it back to him. He is working on PC with Avid. What is the best. Should I convert the avi files he has sent to me to mov files. Then pull these into FCP, and then export it out as avi for him. Or should I export out as mov, and then he converts them to avi when he pulls it into Avid on his PC? Very confusing which is the best procedure between Mac and PC.
Thanks in advance for any help.
This is a disaster in the making. You can avoid being part of the train wreck by either renting an Avid, going to live at his house, or telling him to get a Macintosh.
You must find the lowest common denominator video format that will work on both of your systems. That could be conventional DV, dunno, never used Avid and never tried to edit anything on a PC. But I can tell you this with absolute certainty, it will be easier and, in the end, much less expensive for one of you to adopt the other's platform for the duration of this project. The time you waste transcoding, arguing, formatting your drives, buying secondary products, fitting round pegs into square holes, and trying to find a workable solution (that will keep changing as the project gets more complicated) will cost you much more in terms of money out of pocket and creative frustration than simply buying/renting another station.

  • What is the difference between PUSH and FETCH

I am a little confused. I use my iphone for both my personal POP email accounts and my business exchange account. I am trying to save as much battery as I can so I turned off push and set everything to manual...but now when I try and get may mail....it either says "connecting" or "checking for new mail" at the bottom of the screen and nothing happens from there.
What is the best way to setup this situation for the most battery life? I don't need it to automatically download emails just when I open the email accout would be nice.
I also noticed that when I delete an email from my iphone on my exchange account, it also deletes is on my desktop at work...I need to turn this off...is it possible?

    Hi maxum25,
The difference between push and fetch is that:
When using push, the server sends a signal to the iphone and lets it know that an email is coming its direction. Kind of like receiving a call. The iphone does not need to do anything except receive the email.
When using fetch, the iphone has to wake up every so often and send a request to the server to see if there is any new email waiting for it on the server to download. This takes more time because the iphone sends a request, the server says yes there is some, the iphone says ok give me the new email.
Now the exchange email uses active sync to keep all changes on the exchange server and mobile device in sync. This is automatic and is the nature of exchange and active sync. In order to keep this from happening you would need to talk to your IT dept. and see if they have an imap or pop alternative. Even using imap reflects the changes back to the server.
    Hope this helps.
