Differences operating Canon Pro-10 Wirelessly vs USB connected

To test my new Canon Pro-10 I connected it via USB last night and printed with it.  The Quick Menu was "complete" with all the bells and whistles showing in the "corner" box.  When I printed it offered me many options for Quality and Media -- various types of paper including Canon paper and other papers.  Now that I've successfully connected wirelessly, my paper options are limited to "photo paper" and "plain paper", and the corner box has only a couple icons in it and I get a message that a driver is missing for Quick Menu.  I re-installed Quick Menu from the Canon website and I still get that message.  Prints I got last night via USB connection were good -- a bit dark but good quality.  I'd selected "other matte paper" because it was a third party brand.  Today I used the same paper and printed one of the same images and it was smeary and totally unusable.  I switched to Canon paper and printed the same image.  It was much better but WAY too dark to use.  I can probably edit the image to fix that but I shouldn't have to......
VERY unhappy with my Canon experience so far -- been using an Epson for 8 years, thought it was time for an upgrade and I wanted wireless due to space constraints around my desk.  Should I not expect quality photo prints via wireless?
Solved!
Go to Solution.

I have three of these printers in this line.  The 9000, 9500 II amd the Pro-100.  Not a Pro-10, however.
They all printed differently but after a little tinkering with the settings, they all did very well.  They are great printers.
First off you must not let the printer set anything.  Turn off every bit off control it has.  You can do this with the Canon My Printer under the Printer Settings tab.  Do you know how?  I will guess, yes, for now but if you don't get back to me.
Second, you need to have your photo editor handle all settings and color matching.  You know how to do this?
And lastly, it is essential you get some settings on your monitor that somewhat matches what the printer is printing.  Your printer may be doing exactly what you are telling it to do and you have no idea it is, because your monitor is off.  If you don't do this step, you can forget the other steps.  However, there are only a few things that you need to be concerned with.  You don't need any fancy extra add-ons to do this.  No additional sortware or gadgets, etc.
But you must get the grey-scale very close.  You need to get the brightness very close and you need the contrast very close.
After you do these things you can make adjustments to your prints by just looking at your screen.  Because you know the monitor and printer are on the same level.  One more point, you can NOT get a printer to print every color exactly the way you saw it.  It isn't possibile as all colors and adjustment effect all others.  My goal is to get the skin tones right.  That is what people notice most.
For instance, I know my newest Pro-100 tends to print darker than what I see on the monitor.  So, I automatically know to set it's prints one stop brighter in Photoshop, in my case.  It also prints with a slightly warn tone.  Most of the time, with protraits especially, this if OK but sometimes it is not.  In that case I adjust the "temp" setting slightly cooler in PS.
Make sure you have the correct ICC profiles and you are using Canon brand ink and paper untill you get good with the printer.  Very, very important, otherwise you don't know if the printer is doing exactly what you are telling it to or not.
Also, use the USB connection until everything is right.  You are just adding another issue when you try to set up the printing a nd the wireless all at the same time.  Just like using Canon branded products until it is a go.

You will need to install an App like Print Central on the iPad to try to print to the printer. It will allow you to print to most printers. Check with their support folks if you need more info.

  • Sierra Wireless 881 USB Connect. Airport Extreme

I have Been told that you could plug the Sierra Wireless 881 USB Connect into the back of the Airport Extreme OR iMac because it has the same Airport Extreme Capabilities. Your supposed to be able to just plug it it go to your airport settings and create a network, when you do this its just supposed to show up says the Best Buy and Apple Store Employee's!
I have tried this and it did not work for me.
I want to be able to send out a signal from the Sierra Wireless 881 USB and be able to use all 3 computers on the same network!
The Sierra Wireless 881 USB is just a simple and portable USB connect that you would get at the AT&T store!
If anybody has ANY information I would REALLLLY appreciate some feedback.
    Thank You So Much,
    CGair

The USB device in question appears to be a mobile broadband modem. That is, wireless broadband through a mobile telephone network. This is not the same as a "local" wireless network (Wi-Fi).
I want to be able to send out a signal from the Sierra Wireless 881 USB and be able to use all 3 computers on the same network!
In order to do this, you would typically need a dedicated mobile broadband router with Wi-Fi capabilities (available from a number of manufacturers), and with specific support for the USB modem used.
Alternatively, it may be possible to use a special adapter (such as this example) between the USB modem and the (Ethernet WAN port of an) AirPort Extreme base station. I have not tested this, though.

  • HP Officejet Pro 8500 Wireless A909g Loses Connectivity

[posted on behalf of another user]
Problem with HP Officejet Pro 8500 Wireless A909g
New printer will not stay connected to the wireless network. The printer continuously drops the network connection.
For 15-20 minutes at a time, it will go off-line, then come back on for ~5 mins.  If you power off the printer it will re-connect.  Energy Saving feature has been disabled.
When the printer is off-line, I cannot ping it nor reach it by http interface.
The router is a Belkin-N+ router, WPA-PSK security.
The printer is at address 192.168.2.4 and is static in both the Router and the printer.
The SSID is broadcast and the channel being used is 7, wireless mode is b,g and N
The printer says it has a connection strength of 5, and always shows itself connected.
The printer does not reconnect, unless you power cycle it.
If the printer is pingable then everything works fine, when it is not nothing works.  The fact that it works when it is on-line makes me believe everything with the network connection is fine, other than the possibility that there is a signal problem.  But since other devices with b cards, connect to the router with no problem, and the printer reports a strong connection I do not believe this is the problem.
I currently have a script running that pings the server every minute and it still disconnects.

Unfortunately, you are not alone.  Search the forums for this problem and you will find several threads.  Based on being involved with several of those here is what I recommend:
    1. Connect with Ethernet cable if you can.  Your problems will likely disappear.
    2. If not, try changing the wireless channel to 1 or 11.
    3. Try changing your group key renewal time (WPA key) to the maximum allowable by the router.
    4. You can try this firmware update, but it does not list this as a fault it corrects.
Let's try those and go from there...

  • MacBook Pro Power Failure After USB Connection

I purchased my MacBook Pro not even a few weeks ago. I've used an external hard disk drive with it fine.
Today however, I connected my iPad via USB and instantly the power failed, completely cut off!
Of course I removed the USB connection immediately and attempted to power on the MacBook Pro, but to no avail, I plugged the power cable and the status indicator on the power cable blinks between green and orange in no particular pattern and the battery level indicator on the MacBook Pro does not work (it did previously).
I realise that there is likely no hope with this situation other than to get a replacement, although my partner also has a MacBook Pro (2011) and this happened to his only yesterday, luckily his powered back on fine and seems to be working. Perhaps this is a software issue?
Although I'm doubtful, any help would be greatly appreciated!

I also have a similar problem.  Even with a full battery charge, my 11 month old MBP 15" seems to randomly do an instant and complete power-off. Like your partner,  mine will seem to work fine for a few days then abruptly just fail.  I am still troubleshooting but it seems to happen more frequently when I have something connected to the USB - like my hard drive for backup.  Please share any further info / Resolution.  I am worried I may lose everything before I can get a complete backup.

  • Officejet Pro 8000 Wireless won't connect to my new Airport Extreme router

I have owned my Officejet 8000 Wireless printer for about a year and had no problems with it.  However, my old wireless router wasn't fully Mac compatible so I couldn't secure it with a password.  I now need a secure network, so I bought an Apple Airport Extreme router in December.
I installed the router last night and it is working fine on my iMac, my PC laptop and my iPhone.
However, tonight I am trying to set up the Officejet Pro 8000 with no luck.  I've searched the posts here for 3 hours and am not finding the help I need.  Based on the other posts I've read, I am describing my situation below.
I am trying to set up the printer from my Intel iMac with Mac OS 10.6.4
I am trying to set up the printer with the HP Setup assistant that I just installed from the printer software.
On the first wizard screen it tells me that my device is not configured (I agree)
Then I ask it to configure for a wireless network.
When I get to the Network Selection page, both my network AND my guest network (which I let my neighbor use) are shown on the list with full signal strength.
When I click my network and then continue, the HP setup wizard freezes, and I have to force-quit it.
When I click my guest network and then continue, I get the message that my network is not within the reach.  (FYI, the printer is 10 feet from the router.)
I have tried powering on/off the printer, router, and computer at all different stages of the process with no luck.
    For my Airport:
My radio mode is set to the most compatible choice
MAC access control is not enabled
    Everything is WPA2 security
"Use wide channels" and "Create a closed network" are UN-checked
The channel is set to 11
I am happy to try the "Add network client" thing I saw on other posts, but I don't think I have a printer front panel where I can start the "WPS" (don't know what that is) process.   If I do, it's not obvious and not in the HP manual.
My ISP is Comcast (cable internet).
I would really, really appreciate some help!  Please let me know what information I forgot to include and I will be happy to provide it.
    Thank you!

First, you should be at 10.6.6, so please do Software Update (Apple menu) over and over until there are no more updates.
From where did you get the HP software for your printer? Was it labeled as being compatible with 10.6?
Finally, you will need to reset the printer so, let's do that:
Press and hold the Power button, press Network button, (on some models, press the Wireless button ), two times, press the
press the Cancel button three times, and release the Power button.

New computer is an HP Pavilion Elite HPE running Win 7, old computer is a Sony laptop running Vista. I've tried turning on and off everything several times, unistalling and reinstalling all softwware several times, and running the HP Home Network Diagnostic Utility (both basic and advanced tools) several times. I have a Netgear 2.4GHz wireless network router -- Security type WPA2, Encyption type AES and a functioning Netwrok securty key that is not recognized by the wireless network setting on by the wirelsss netwrok wizard on the printer tools application. I just fixed my J4680 printer a couple of minutes ago (see my post).
    Step 1: Unplug your printer
Step 2: Uninstall the program J4680 and ALL associated HP programs (IRIS, Websmart, etc.). There is a screen to select ALL programs.
Step 3: Reboot your PC to complete the uninstallation
Step 4: Plug in your printer
Step 5: Download the FULL j4680 package from HP's support website:
Step 6: Run the Installation. The first screen will ask if you want a Wireless connection so click on that. It connected my printer automatically.
That's it. My printer is printing and scanning great.

  • Officejet pro 8500 wireless w/ blue screen B8808C14, B8614C64, B8806060 or B8806238 error message

Hi -My printer, HP Officejet Pro 8500 Wireless Printer A909g connected via USB, was on when our lights flickered. It is plugged into a surge protector.  However, there has been one of four error messages on the touch screen whenever the printer power is on.  B8808C14, B8614C64, B8806060, or B8806238 have come up on a blue screen just after I turn it on to warm up.  No buttons respond on the printer.  Nothing prints.  The computer is running Windows Vista 64 bit and it says the printer is offline.  HP Solution Center on the computer says the printer is disconnected when it is still connected.  If you hit the on/off button the printer turns off for a moment then comes back on to one of the four error code messages listed above.  I have disconnected the printer completely, moved it, and plugged it into a power source in the kitchen and the same error message comes up and no buttons respond.  We've had the printer 18 months with no problems.

Hey Ceres, real quick question for you:
Has this printer ever been set up on a network either wirelessly or wired to your router? I ask because this type of error message (Bxxxxxxx) applies most to printers which are having issues connecting to your network.
You can find more information out here.

  • Can Wired Printers Print Over A Wireless Network Through USB Connection to the Router

I have been told by supposed experts that I can use older wired printers wirelessly through USB connections on a router and I have been told by other supposed experts  that it does not work.  This is what I have and what I am trying to do:
In my new home I have limited space and I dedicated an unneeded closet to office and computer stuff.  I rebuilt the closet with shelves and drawers and I added power outlets and phone and coax jacks.  I use a wireless HP Pavilion laptop (about a year old) running Vista anywhere in the house.  The computer closet has an HP C309 wireless printer, an HP D4260 wired printer, and an Epson Photo R280 printer.  I can't get cable or FIOS right now, so I am running the internet on DSL at 3.0MB.  That signal goes into a router supplied by Verizon and I jump it over to a Netgear RangeMax Wireless-N Gigabit Router with USB.
There is no particular reason to have the Netgear router in the lineup except that that two networking "experts" (their term -- I have no frame of reference to judge them) said I could connect the HP D4260 and the Epson printer via USB cables to the Netgear router and then send documents to them over the wireless network.  When I have these two older printers connected to the Netgear router, the network does "see" them and shows them as network printers.  However, no documents ever arrive at them.
As an author, I print thousands of pages a year in draft mode for review and I would prefer to use the HP D4260 as it is far cheaper to operate and it prints far faster and quieter than the HP C309.  Connecting it directly to the laptop is not convenient as it is nowhere near where I use the laptop.
Is there anyway to get at least the HP D4260, and preferably also the Epson R280, to print wirelessly via the network by connecting them to the USB port on the Netgear router?  If not, I will have to buy a cheap, fast wireless printer, something I really don't want to do.
    Thanks.

You did not give the model number of your Netgear, but I am sure that some Netgear routers with USB support USB hard drives and printers, where some models only support USB hard drives.
Either provide your model number or look at your documentation to see if your router actually supports printing.
Also, since you essentially have two routers in your home, make sure that ALL devices (printers and computers) are connected to the Netgear router, not to your DSL router.

  • How to get macbook pro to work with a canon wft-e6 wireless file transmitter

I recently purchased a Canon WFT-E6 wireless file transmitter for my 1DX Canon Camera. I can't find a way to set up my Notebook Pro to work with this device. Has anyone run into the same issue? and if so do you have a solution?

My guess is that you will see a wireless network in range using your Airport menu.  The Airport menu looks like
.  If it is all gray and nothing is inside of it, then the network was not properly setup.  I do not have one, but if you tried to setup the network, and you can't see the device, then you might need Canon's support.

It needs to upload immediately, as soon as a shot is captured.

I can see from your post you are experiencing print issues.  I would like to help!
    Do you receive any errors?
Does it print a blank page, or nothing at all?
Are you connected via wireless, ethernet or a USB cable?
In the meantime, I would recommend downloading and running the HP Print and Scan Doctor.

  • Help! My Canon MG5520 printer is apparently not connected to my late 2013 MacBook Pro!

Help! My Canon MG5520 printer is apparently not connected to my late 2013 MacBook Pro! I have had this printer a few months and everything has been working fine until today. I did I have to turn my wifi router on and off this morning, so I think that might be it. I'm not extremely tech savy, so if anyone could lend a hand, I would appreciate it!! I've tried unplugging it, turning it on and off again, quitting it my from laptop, nothing works. Do I need to reconnect it to the wifi? How do I do this? I turns on fine and doesn't give my any error messages, it'st just my laptop that says it isn't connected. Sorry if this is a stupid question.

Thanks for providing complete information.  It seems like you've ruled out faulty docking cable, bad USB port, and software issue on the new Mac.  And since the shuffle still works fine on the older Mac, it's not a problem on the shuffle.
    Some things to try...
Connect the MacBook to its power adapter, so that it's not running the battery power.  If any other USB devices are connected, try connecting the shuffle as the only device, to a direct USB port on the MacBook.
If you can keep it connected for long enough, go to the shuffle's Settings screen in iTunes and set it to Enable disk use (and Apply).  This will keep the shuffle's disk mounted continuously, instead of iTunes unmounting the shuffle's disk when not syncing.
If you happen to have an old USB 2.0 hub that has its own power supply, connect the shuffle through the hub to see if that make any difference.  The new Macs have USB 3.0, so if that's the cause, maybe a USB 2.0 hub in between can act as a "buffer" and make it work.
