Different ESS application in one custom application

Hello Experts,
I am very new to this ESS. we have the requirement to develop a new custom WDJ application which displays the employees personla information. And I'm planning to call the already available WD applications like Personal Inforamtion, Employee Search Career and Job applications from a single custom WDJ application.
Could you please suggest me on how to do this? any docs are also fine
Thanks in advance, RN

  • Different ESS menu for different countries

    Hi,
    Do anyone know how you in the same system/client can have different ESS menus from one country to another?

    Hi,
    Try the views <u>T77WWW_SC</u> ( Control table for country specific screens in web services ).
    <u>T77WWW_MNT</u>,

  • Multiple users logged into one server, each users printer has a different name, application needs ONE name to print to.

    Multiple users logged into one server, each users printer has a different name, application needs ONE name to print to.
    I'm NOT in any way a Terminal Services expert and I need help trying to get an application program working in a multi-user environment.
    The issue is that the printer changes for every user that is logged in. The application needs to print NOT to the default printer, but to a "special" printer which is selected in the application... let's call it a label printer to simplify the explanation.
    You have your default regular printer, easy for the application to find that one, and then you have a special printer that labels get printed onto. The application needs to know what printer is the label printer. So we allow the user to select that in the
    application and the selection is stored in a config file in
    C:\ProgramData\mfgr\prog\setting files
    I don't have access to the application so I can't change how this works.
    In the "regular" world, selecting the label printer driver to use should be per machine, NOT per user. When a new user logs into a machine, the physical printer doesn't go "poof" and a new printer suddenly appear. Same printer for all
    users.
    Yet in terminal services, the physical machine is "merged" with the virtual machine on the server. And there can be many users logged in at the same time. So each users real machine (and real printer) is injected into the "fake" terminal
    services machine. The name of the printers is made unique for each user. So the printers DO go "poof" and change names depending on the user logged into terminal services.
    So user "A" logs in and sets up the application to print to "LabelPrinterForUserA" (or whatever the name of the printer happens to be), that setting is stored in the ProgramData subfolder, and all is well. Later, user "B" logs
    in, and when they print, the application tries to print to "LabelPrinterForUserA" which doesn't exist for user B or is only accessible by user A. If user B re-configures, that breaks it for user A.
    SOLUTION 1: The way that /should/ work (in my mind) is that you define one "generic" printer in Terminal Services... call it "Virtual Label printer" and when the user wants to print to it, the print job gets re-directed back to whatever
    physical printer is actually connected to their local workstation. There is a map of virtual printer to actual printer depending on the current user. The application is told once to print to "Virtual Label Printer" for all users.
    SOLUTION 2: Or... there should be some way to make the ProgramData sub folders separate per user. E.g. when user "A" tries to access:
    C:\ProgramData\mfgr\prog\setting files
    they actually get
    C:\UserData\UserA\AppData\mfgr\prog\setting files
    and user "B" gets
    C:\UserData\UserB\AppData\mfgr\prog\setting files
    So the question I have is: Does either of those solutions exist hidden somewhere in the setup of terminal server? Or is there another way around this issue that I don't know?

    I don't really have a "for sure" answer to this, but because people here can't seem to deal with a question that hasn't been answered I'll provide the best answer I did receive from ServerFault.com user Nathan:
    I can feel your pain with using old software on terminal servers ...the solution I've come up with definitely won't scale as it requires some manual configuration, but I've gotten this method to work with our label printers (which require to be
    printed to an LPT port...yep, that old).
    Share your USB-connected printers to the network on each machine. Then, have the user log in on aunique session for each of them
    (a TS account cannot be shared among computers for this to work) and install a network printer pointing to the USB one they shared. Try to use a DNS name to account for possible DHCP movements.
    After, it should work. Each user can do this since display names can be identical as long as the ports are different (which they are).
    This was clarified by the following series of comments:
    I think you are on to something here, and I originally advised the admin to do this. The problem he ran into is that it setup the printer names in the TS as "printer on usersworkstation"
    and he could not rename it except to change the "printer" to whatever. E.g. the "on userworkstation" remained. I believe there is another way of installing the printer which avoids this, but I can't find it. Ages ago, one used to do NET
    USE LPT2 \\computer\printer password /USER:domain\user /PERSISTENT:YES and then tell the driver to print to LPT2 –  James

    @JamesNewton That's actually the exact method we used. The way around the "network printer" part is to install it as local printer and map it to a TCP/IP port that way. –  Nathan

    You mean in the case where the printers are TCP/IP connected and not local USB / LPT to the users workstation? That makes sense. Wonder if this will work for USB connected printers... –  James

    @JamesNewton You'd share the local printer on the client's PC then on the server connect via TCP/IP to it. You'd need static addresses or use DNS names if DHCP, though. –  Nathan

    Ah. Yes. I see. Looks like the LPT thing should work even with a USB connected printer:superuser.com/questions/182655/… –  James

  • Initiate Std ESS Application for Selected PERNR

    We have a requirement to call standard ESS address maintenance java webdynpro application in our custom abap webdynpro application for a PERNR which is different than the login user.
    We are able to launch this application using following code.
    Navigate to portal link with parameters
        CALL METHOD lo_portal_manager->navigate_absolute
          EXPORTING
             navigation_target   = <standard java application pcd link in portal>
             navigation_mode     = if_wd_portal_integration=>co_show_inplace
             post_parameters     = abap_true
             business_parameters = lt_portal_parameters
             launcher_parameters = lt_portal_parameters.
    But I am not able to find the parameter name through which we can pass the PERNR number to launch for particular employee(other than login employee).
    Has anyone used or worked on the similar application? Can you share the parameter name used to pass the PERNR.
    When we call any java webdynpro application through portal the first method it will execute will be windowsu2019 default () method. Can anybody give me list of all parameters that are used in this method also helpful to solve my problem?
    Our requirement is to have WD Abap page through which HR administrator can initiate standard services for employees under his/her control. He/She will specify the PERNR and try to invoke the Std ESS Application. We are able to launch the page for self but we want to launch it for a different employee by passing a PERNR

  • Sharing object across 2 different web application

    Hello,
         I do not know if this is a right place to ask this kind of question...
         I have two different web applications running on 2 different tomcat servers.
         One of them creates one object ( say myComplexClassObject) which is serializable..
         and I want to share this object in another web applications.
         Both the apps are developed using JSP and servlets.
         Is there any way, I can make this object available in another application ?
         As the request object can not be used across 2 different contexts, I can not set it as attribute on request.
         I tried serializing myComplexClassObject in some test.dat. Problem going by this way is that
         how do I send this file to another application ?
         What I did is as follows....
         In the first app , I created the object and serialized it in one file test.dat. In the same app I read
         test.dat and send the content as query parameter to a JSP in another app. That JSP collects all the query parameters
         and constructs a big string out of it and then writes it to a file, test2.dat and tries to deserialize this.
         File sizes come out to be same. But it gives me StreamCorruptedException.
         Any idea, where I am doing wrong ? or any other way to share this object or to send the file to another app?
         I can not use FTP for some reasons. Size of the test.dat file is more than 10 KB.

    Some possible solutions:
    Use a webservice calls to pass the object,
    Use JAXB to convert the object to XML, pass the XMLover HTTP or a socket and use JAXB to convert the XML back into an object.
    Store the object as a blob in a database.
    Store the object in a Java aware database that can handle Java objects.
    Store the data in the object in a database.
    I am curious as to what information ot functionality is contained in this object that you feel the need to pass it between two servers.

  • Can I create two different FDM applications in a single database?

    Hi,
    Atpresent we are using separate database (MSSQL Server 2008) for each FDM applications, now our databases have increased in numbers due to increase in number of applications.
    Now we are searching for any possibility to use a single database for more than one different FDM applications inorder to reduce the new database creation numbers in future.
    Any suggestions would be greatly helpful.
    Thanks in advance.
    Abdulla Javeed Hassan

    Yes. Reduce the number of FDM applications you are creating. You can have multiple target system adapters in a single FDM application (i.e. a single database only required). There is no need to create a new application for each target system.

  • Same favorites content in different Java application

    Hi all,
    The situation I faced is that there are several Java applications with their corresponding JavaHelp running in one machine. I found that the favorites added in the help of application 1 can be seen in the help of application 2 (even I haven't added any favorites for application 2).
    According to the JavaHelp Spec, I know that the favorites are stored in the user's directory in the file userdir/.JavaHelp/Favorites.xml, making favorites to be global for all Java applications. However, I don't think that it is reasonable as the help content for different Java application should be different, so as the favorites.
    Is there any way that I can have its own favorites for each Java application?
    Thanks for reading this.

    You can copy a component with the same name in a different application if the two applications are based on different schemas.
    Eg: Application1 based on Schema1
    Application2 based on Schema2
    You can have a form (Say Form1) in both the applications.

  • How to share HttpSession between different web application ?

    I have two web application ( ie two different war files), I discovered that the jsp in the two war files are not able to share the HttpSession, may I know how to you share the HttpSession between two different web application ?

    From the api doc:
    "Session information is scoped only to the current web application (ServletContext), so information stored in one context will not be directly visible in another."
    You can not share a Session object between web apps. You can create your own sessions using a database, textfile or hashmap. Do a search on the O'Rielly web site for psuedo-sessions.
