Different sound levels on same sound clip

Hi everyone.
During a scene in a iMovie project I'm doing, there's a background song. I'd like to reduce the volume sound of the song just for a few seconds so a person that is talking can be heard.
When I change the sound mix between movie background sound and the song, it affects the whole song. Is there any way to change the sound levels of the same track for a few seconds?
Thank you all.

It's counterintuitive, but iMovie '08 needs you to make the change to the clip you want to promote, not the clip you want to duck, which in this case is the video clip where the person is talking. Once you get the hang of that, it actually works really well.
First, if the talking is part of one big clip, select the piece of it that has the talking and choose Edit -> Split Clip.
Next, select the video clip you split out and click on the speaker button in the middle toolbar. A floating audio adjustments window pops up. In that window, you can select a box that says "Reduce the volume of other tracks to:". Check the box and adjust the slider under it accordingly.
Once that is done, iMovie will reduce the volume of the music track just for that part of your project. Hope this helps!

  • Load another sound in the same sound object

    Hi,
    I am loading a sound like this:
    public var smallSound:Sound = new Sound();
    public var trans1:SoundTransform = new SoundTransform(1, 0);
    public var channel:SoundChannel = new SoundChannel();
    smallSound.load(new URLRequest("firsttrack.mp3"));
    channel=smallSound.play(0,1,trans1);
    When an event occurs (button click actually) I would like to stop playing the first sound and playing another sound in the same object. So I try doing this:
    smallSound.load(new URLRequest("secondtrack.mp3"));
    channel=smallSound.play(0,1,trans1);
    but it does not work. The first sound keeps playing. I havent understood something probably.. Can someone help me ??

    ok, i solved my problem. It works like:
    channel.stop();
    smallSound = new Sound;
    smallSound.load(new URLRequest("secondtrack.mp3"));
    channel = new SoundChannel;
    channel=smallSound.play(0,1,trans1);

  • Sound Level adjustment causes sound bumps in video

    Hi, When I adjust the sound level on an MP3 track two sound bumps/thuds/heart beats are magically inserted into the center of the main video's audio. They do not show up at the point of the adjustment handles, nor at the transitions. In fact, when zoomed in a lot, they seem to be on each side of the video icon for the particular video segment. They come in pairs and are about a second apart. This isn't the sound glitches at the transitions about which many write. Anyone else experience this?
    Thanks, Jim

    I've tried that slider on iDVD with no effect. Not sure what it is for, in fact. Maybe someone else can help. David Pogue's Missing Manual book on iMovie and iDVD doesn't mention that control.
    But I do know that to adjust the sound within the project, you need to be in iMovie. There are several editing tools to add sounds, adjust levels, etc. I have in fact found this to be the most time consuming part - not technically, but to produce a project where the sounds are not too loud or too soft, insert the appropriate background music, edit out peaks, etc. Techincally easy to do each piece but a lot of work to really get the audio to match and enhance the project.

  • Making whole CD output level at same sound

    if i make a cd in itunes, how can i make sure the cd records at the same level? some songs are louder than others. most of my music i bought from itunes. thanks!

    In iTunes "Preferences", in the "Playback" section, make sure you have "Sound Check" selected. (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2425)
    You might want to check out third party apps, too, such as iVolume. If you search the discussions for "sound check" (include the quotes to get better hits of the two words consecutively), or google "itunes sound check alternative" (without quotes), you might get other advice on superior alternatives.

  • Sound button no longer adjusts sound level properly

    Since upgrading to 4.02 on iPhone 3GS I have had sound issues. The sound button on the side of the phone does not adjust the sound level at all. The only way to fix it is to adjust the sound level from the sound settings menu. This seems to temporarily "reset" the sound button so it works properly once again. However the issue does not go away. This happens at least once a day. Restoring the phone as a new phone does not work either. Anyone have the same issue?

    Mine is really low volume now, set to max but sounds like its on minimum.. Ive even replaced the speaker module but still the same, all stems from OS4..
    Hopefully wednesdays release of 4.1 will cure this!!

    alguien sabe que base de tiempo o periodo de obserbacion utiliza el sound level.vi para determinar el leq.?
    otra de las salidas del sound level .vi es el running leq sound level que involucra al tiempo de integracion, alquien me puede decir en que consiste este valor arrojado por el sound level.vi o que logramos en aumentar o disminuir el tiempo de integracion?
    otros parametros como el exp avg sound level y el peak sound level los entiendo.
    gracias....

    Hola;
    Tu definición de leq es la correcta; es un nivel equivalente de ruido.
    Usualmente la señal que estás midiendo varía en amplitud, tu puedes calcuar el nivel de presión de sonido (ruido) de una señal contínua imaginaria en un intervalo de tiempo definido, que produciría la misma energía que el nivel de sonido fluctuante que estas midiendo.
    La base de tiempo "Integration time" en la que se basa generalmente está dada por el usuario, es decir cuantos ms quieres emplear para hacer la operación. El tiempo por default, si no se cablea, es 1 seg.
    El running Leq sound level te entrega el equivalente contínuo mientras corre tu VI

  • Burning Sound Level

    Is there any option to show the "burn" volume level, of a complete playlist, before it is burned to disc?
    The purpose of the exercise is to take recordings from old CDs and make a mix CD. The mix CD playlist has been carefully adjusted to make an improvement to the relative sound level between tracks, but it will not burn a consistent sound-level CD.
    Sound Check is not working well enough, and manual adjustment to the volume adjustment of each track is not sufficient.
    Are there any other factors that could be adjusted in iTunes, or is there other software that will do this accurately?
    Thanks,

    It sounds like you're looking for a "CD Mastering" service. I don't have any recommendations, but you could try googling "CD Mastering Services" and see what comes up.
    One warning: By "original" music--I assume you mean you own the copyrights. If you are working with tracks from "original" CDs created by others--you may run into some copyright issues.
    You might want to consider one of these "Audio Production Software" titles:
    http://www.download.com/Audio-Production/3150-2170_4-0.html
    Unfortunately, I don't have any recommendations, although CNET does have user forums and allows users to write reviews so you might find helpful advice on the site from other users.

  • Different zoom levels for different clips in the same project?

    Hi
    I am making a movie with videos from two different cameras. As a result some of the clips are cut down in size to a small portion of the screen. This can be solved if it is possible to use different zoom levels for different clips in the same project. I have not been able to do this. Is it possible?
    kind regards
    Soren

    You can scale the small clips up to the same size of the larger one... but you will get a quality loss.
    Using Motion or Scale to Frame Size commands
    Better to scale the large ones down to a Sequence that matches the smaller clip dimensions.

  • Output sound level from gramophone and from computer should be the same

    Dear friends,
    Why the output sound level isn't equal if we listen the LP directly from the gramophone (AUX1) or from the computer during the recording the track on the computer?
    We are using The E-MU 0404 USB 2.0 Audio/MIDI Interface:
    http://ixbtlabs.com/articles2/proaudio/emu-0404-usb.html
    http://www.emu.com/products/product.asp?product=10447&nav=features
    and we have connected E-MU with the (gramohone) speakers through the headphone output on the E-MU and turn the headphone level to the maximum, but the sound level is still lower from the same speakers.
    If we compare the track after the recording with the LP on the gramphone is the level of the sound the same/equal.
    So we need to have all three sound levels equal:
    -from the LP form the gramophone
    -from the computer during the recording
    -from our track on the hard disk after the recording
    Thank you for your answer.

    function(){return A.apply(null,[this].concat($A(arguments)))}
    Connecting loudspeakers to the headphone output on the E-mu sounds like completely the wrong thing to do altogether - you should
    only connect headphones to a headphone output, and nothing else at all.
    We will buy the cable as you mentioned and connect it in the line level (S/PDIF).
    function(){return A.apply(null,[this].concat($A(arguments)))}
    Almost certainly you will need to adjust the monitoring levels in Patchmix to get this the way you want it
    Then we will try to adjust the monitoring levels in Patch (I will report if and how did we manage it).

    In Messages you can set Sounds/Alerts Globally in Messages Menu > Preferences > Alerts.
    You can also set them for Individual Buddies.
    Individual set sounds override the Global ones.
    This does mean you need to check that sounds (or the "wrong" sound) have not be set in either place.

  • Why are all the sound levels so different!?? With VST's and in Ultrabeat...

    I'm having so much trouble with the audio levels in logic pro. It seems every VST has a completely different level when the volume on the vst is set to 100. Miroslav Philharmonik is EXTREMELY quiet..., and when I load drums into ultrabeat, they immediately peak like crazy. I tried loading my drums up in battery 3 after that, and all the drums where extremely quiet compared to my other vst's YET it showed in the mixer that they were peaking????? I don't understand what's happening, I know you have to mix but this never happened in any other daw that I've used.

    It's one of a the reasons mixers have volume controls.
    Seriously - an orchestral instrument is likely to have hundreds of parts all playing at once. If each part was designed to hit close to 0dB, then it would be impossible to do anything as the resultant mix would be massively loud - you'd have to turn everything down all the time.
    Drums are probably going to be peaking fairly loud in a mix, as they do contain a lot of the energy.
    There is no standard. A mono synth will often have hotter levels than a polysynth part, as the polysynth could be playing 8-32 voices all at once. Also, different patches, and different instruments themselves will be programmed to have different volume levels.
    This is all true regardless of DAWs, and is nothing specifically to do with Logic.
    All all the instruments, and mixer channels have volume controls, to let you control their volume and place them where they need to be for your needs.

  • I can't change the volume of the sound over time within a clip.

    I want to adjust the level of the sound within a clip. I take my pen tool and just add 2 keyframes a few seconds apart from eachother. I adjust the height of the last keyframe, but when I playback NOTHING happends. This is so annoying because it has always worked. I use Premiere Pro 5.5.

    I'm having the same problem. The volume controls and volume keyframes suddenly stop working. I've been having it occur a lot, both on my 2011 iMac running Mavericks and my 2013 MacBook Pro Retina running Mountain Lion, two entirely different systems. It seems to start happening at random while editing projects, and I can't figure out how to make it stop.
    I attached a screenshot to show the audio meters displaying loud sound output, even though sole unmuted track has keyframes all the way down at "negative infinity" decibels.
    I have done the following things to troubleshoot:
    -restarted computer, restarted premiere
    -re-rendered the sequence
    -tried removing and reapplying volume keyframes
    -double check that the track volume is untouched, at 0db
    -double check that the master volume is untouched, at 0db
    -checked that the volume control bypass is not on
    -tried muting and unmuting the track
    -tried on a different operating system
    However, changing the audio gain (by ctrl-clicking on the audio track, and changing the entire gain of the clip), does still work.
    Thanks for any help.

  • How do I get a descent sound level and quality when exporting out of Logic ??

    Hi guys,
    I know this topic's been discussed many times before but I still can't fix my problem
    I'm going crazy right now. It's been weeks I've been working on beats on Logic and I think they now sound pretty cool.
    So I'm trying to export them out of Logic on mp3,or wav, or aiff but everytime it comes out very low. So when I'm applying different tips (limiter, adaptative limiter and different things I found on the internet... ) the sound level is a bit higher but still the quality is not as good as it is on Logic
    So here's my questions : first, is it possible to get the exact same quality as the one you have when listening into logic ?
    then how to get the best quality with a normal sound level  so when you listening to the mp3 or wave or aiff on itunes just after a normal song you don't have to turn the sound up
    Thank you very much for you help !!

  • LAFMax Sound Level

    We are trying to get LAFMax (the maximum A-weighted noise level measured with a fast time weighting) from recorded sound pressure measurements.  We sampled two different ways. One set was taken in one second blocks at 25.6KS/s and the other method was to get a single 20 second block at the same sample rate.
    My thought was to run through a loop that picks off 3200 samples each time, gets Leq, and keeps track of the maximum value found until the entire block has been parsed.  For the one second sample blocks I would have to use the maximum from all of the 20 blocks.
    My problem is that I am very new to LabVIEW programming and have very little time to devote to learning before I need these results.  So any pointers would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi arathbun,
    Just to make sure I understand, you are or have already acquired all of your data. You now want to set up a simple program that will go through all of it and track the max value found from it all. This will ultimately yield the max value of all the data, including all twenty blocks correct?
    Also, I believe this is actually going to all be developed in LabVIEW? SignalExpress does not provide a whole lot of data control, it is great for simple signal acquisition but more complex applications it is a bit beyond its capabilities.
    Though you are new to LabVIEW it would be worth some time reading through some of the simple tutorials to get you familiar with the environment and tools.
    http://www.ni.com/academic/students/learnlabview/
    From a high level perspective, it sounds like you need a for loop to run through your sets of data, and use a shift register to store an integer value for the max. Your internal loop would take a new number value and compare it to the current max, and select whichever is bigger as the new max. You could also store your information in an array and use the min/max properties to get similar information and faster results.
    Hopefully that will get you pointed in the right direction. If you are indeed using LabVIEW I would recommend that you post in the LabVIEW forums as you will get better support more applicable to your questions.

It has been present since the Android 4.4 update I think. Maybe even 4.3. For example the SBH-20 only has 7 volume steps in total (I think). To request smaller volume steps would be out of the scope of the Walkman app. My solution was to purchase a Bluetooth headset that actually has more steps in volume. Btw since now i have not found yout how to mark people in posts. can u please give me a quick manual? thx
