LAFMax Sound Level

We are trying to get LAFMax (the maximum A-weighted noise level measured with a fast time weighting) from recorded sound pressure measurements.  We sampled two different ways. One set was taken in one second blocks at 25.6KS/s and the other method was to get a single 20 second block at the same sample rate.
My thought was to run through a loop that picks off 3200 samples each time, gets Leq, and keeps track of the maximum value found until the entire block has been parsed.  For the one second sample blocks I would have to use the maximum from all of the 20 blocks.
My problem is that I am very new to LabVIEW programming and have very little time to devote to learning before I need these results.  So any pointers would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Hi arathbun,
Just to make sure I understand, you are or have already acquired all of your data. You now want to set up a simple program that will go through all of it and track the max value found from it all. This will ultimately yield the max value of all the data, including all twenty blocks correct?
Also, I believe this is actually going to all be developed in LabVIEW? SignalExpress does not provide a whole lot of data control, it is great for simple signal acquisition but more complex applications it is a bit beyond its capabilities.
Though you are new to LabVIEW it would be worth some time reading through some of the simple tutorials to get you familiar with the environment and tools.

From a high level perspective, it sounds like you need a for loop to run through your sets of data, and use a shift register to store an integer value for the max. Your internal loop would take a new number value and compare it to the current max, and select whichever is bigger as the new max. You could also store your information in an array and use the min/max properties to get similar information and faster results.
Hopefully that will get you pointed in the right direction. If you are indeed using LabVIEW I would recommend that you post in the LabVIEW forums as you will get better support more applicable to your questions.

  • HT5517 How can I adjust sound level when streaming radio from my Apple TV through Airplay speakers?

I have a 2nd Gen Apple TV with an airport express set up as airplay speakers.  I can stream the new radio through using the Airplay speakers pretty well.  The problem is that once I've got it going, I cannot adjust the sound level without laboriously backing out of the radio menu, going back to the top level menu then drilling down into the Airplay settings to raise or lower the speaker's sound level.
Is there an easier way to do this?

go to system preferences > Sound > Output. then change the output from "built-in" to HDMI.

  • How do I get a descent sound level and quality when exporting out of Logic ??

    Hi guys,
I know this topic's been discussed many times before but I still can't fix my problem
I'm going crazy right now. It's been weeks I've been working on beats on Logic and I think they now sound pretty cool.
So I'm trying to export them out of Logic on mp3,or wav, or aiff but everytime it comes out very low. So when I'm applying different tips (limiter, adaptative limiter and different things I found on the internet... ) the sound level is a bit higher but still the quality is not as good as it is on Logic
So here's my questions : first, is it possible to get the exact same quality as the one you have when listening into logic ?
then how to get the best quality with a normal sound level  so when you listening to the mp3 or wave or aiff on itunes just after a normal song you don't have to turn the sound up
Thank you very much for you help !!

Using an iPod Classic on a Bose sound dock....when loading the iPod from the Mac, what  "Import Settings" (under iTune "Preferences"),  should be used to maintain a constant sound level when playing music?  Mac OS 10.6.8, iTunes 10.6.1.
There are many Import Settings available and it is somewhat confusing.  Any suggestions?

  • My pc sound level is very low on playback from dvd and most websites even though its at 100 percent

the playback level on dvd and most video streams is very low.(youtube seems ok)This is my second pavillion g7 w/ windows 7 .The first had a defective fan but the sound level was ok and there was a graphic eq section for sound control with other output options.I've yet to find that area on this pc in the month I,ve had it even though their identical computers.I,m at a loss for the cause of the problem.Headphones work fine but are annoying.

i use professional studio monitors to monitor the audio
the issue , is if i turn up the audio it will clip on premieres main output.  so i cant turn it up any more.
the specific moment i took the screenshot the audio volume was at -18db, but even if it was up at 0db it would not even reach half volume on my computers main output
this is the case regardless of the nature of the audio, be it stock music, dialogue, or sound effects  maybe there is a hidden master output that im unaware of

  • Sound Level adjustment causes sound bumps in video

Hi, When I adjust the sound level on an MP3 track two sound bumps/thuds/heart beats are magically inserted into the center of the main video's audio. They do not show up at the point of the adjustment handles, nor at the transitions. In fact, when zoomed in a lot, they seem to be on each side of the video icon for the particular video segment. They come in pairs and are about a second apart. This isn't the sound glitches at the transitions about which many write. Anyone else experience this?
    Thanks, Jim

I've tried that slider on iDVD with no effect. Not sure what it is for, in fact. Maybe someone else can help. David Pogue's Missing Manual book on iMovie and iDVD doesn't mention that control.
But I do know that to adjust the sound within the project, you need to be in iMovie. There are several editing tools to add sounds, adjust levels, etc. I have in fact found this to be the most time consuming part - not technically, but to produce a project where the sounds are not too loud or too soft, insert the appropriate background music, edit out peaks, etc. Techincally easy to do each piece but a lot of work to really get the audio to match and enhance the project.

  • Normalising Sound Levels in iMovie

    Hello,
I have an iMovie project which is a video/audio interview between two people. Unfortunately the interviewer's mic is far quieter than the interviewee's. Is there a way that I can normalise the sound levels within iMovie so that the volume is consistent?
    Thanks!
    Tom Ewer

The only way to do that is, if you have iMovie 11, view the audio levels under the video clips and manually change it each time the people switch talking.

  • Nokia N95 8G Bluetooth sound levels

I am hoping someone out there can help me with a small problem with my bluetooth headset and phone.
I have a Jabra BT250 headset which i used to have paired with my old N73 and the sound levels on it were very good but now having it paired with my N95 8G the sound levels are not great. I have turned up the volume on the phone and headset to maximum but it still does not produce good enough sound.
I used to have to turn down the volume using my old N73 but now i am wondering how i can turn it up.

    Hi,
I have the same problem - bought a bluetooth headset so I can use the GPS function on my motorbike but as soon as you activate the GPS the headset is disconnected.
I've managed one work-around so far - I've told the GPS software to use my external bluetooth GPS receiver and not the internal one. Now the headset works.
It's not what I'd call satisfactory but it works. Would love to use the internal gps receiver tho.
    Any suggestions?

  • Microphone calibration for a sound level meter

Hi I need an application for measure sound level by using the sound and vibration toolkit and severl microphones as input, but I don´t get the same values as a portable Phonic portable meter. I´m using a 60db gain preamplifier but when i use this value in the pregain scale voltaje to EU block I don´t get any value, but if I use -60 it works! is that correct?  on the other hand, I´ve seen a calibrate microphone block for the traditional daqmx  but I dont understand how to use it and I cant find examples. Do you have one? I have a cDAQ with 9205 A-input card.   Also, if I use the PC microphone input to get the data do I have to put an pregain value for the scale voltaje to EU block?
I need dome help please. Thanks a lot.

    ¡Hi mario_rojas!
I checked the documentation and SVL Calibrate Microphone (DAQmx) VI if you run it with the proper configuration it will measure the sensitivity of the microphone connected to the channel you specify.  Can you tell me what version of the Sound and Vibration Toolkit you are using? There are some specific inputs that you need to configure, but I need to know the version to tell you the values you need.
About the -60dB gain, it should work with +60. When I have the version of the toolkit I can check this out for you.
About the question for the PC microphone, you should not have to input a pregain value, since you do not have an intermediate amplifier between the microphone and the daq board, you just need to find the sensor sensitivity. We can use the SVL Calibrate Microphone (DAQmx) VI to find out if we don’t have that data in the specs.
I think we are dealing with the same problem in this forum:
    http://forums.ni.com/ni/board/message?board.id=250&message.id=36845
I think it’s better if we continue working in one forum. Please let me know if this is the same issue, and if it is, in what forum would you prefer to keep posting.

  • Sound Level Meter vi

It would be great if I could manage to have a Sound Level Meter vi. I do not have SVT.
Right now a .vi sharing would be best, but in my mind it is to start to make my own, this kind of tasks make you learn. The problem is time.
Any sharings? Suggestions? I found this in an old post, but, I get this error:
"Poly VI 'AI Acquire Waveform.vi': subVI is missing.
    Attachments:
    SPL.llb ‏88 KB

AI Acquire Waveform is part of the old traditional DAQ API.  You can either replace the traditional DAQ VIs with DAQmx VIs or install traditional DAQ (provided you are on a supported, 32-bit OS).  I would recommend the former.  The sound level algorithms should still be good.  Let us know if you run into issues.

  • Playing with loopback: sound level doubled.

I've already bought Mainstage (version 2.2) and the loopback plugin is great! I've just one issue: when I record using loopback there are 2 signals in the output so the volume is higher, but when the loopback is playing there's only 1 output and so the sound level is lower.
    This is my situation:
In one channel strip there's EVP88
In another auxiliary channel strip there's the loopback plugin assigned to the Bus1.
In the first channel strip I put a send to the bus1 in which there's the loopback. The "send level" is 0.0. The channel strip levels are all on 0 dB.
The problem is that doing in this way the level of the evp88 is doubled when it pass through the loopback.
Because in the Output I have the evp88 (at -6dB for example), then the sound goes through the bus1 in which there's the loopback channel strip who sends again the sound to the output (again at -6dB).
So the result is that when I play something during recording on loopback the sound I hear is for example at 0dB (because in the output there are 2 signals). When i stop playing and the loopback is playing the recorder track, the sound is less than 0dB (Because there's only the signal from the loopback).
How can i solve this issue?
    Thanks guys

    Hi
Within the Loopback GUI, there is an option for Monitoring

  • Why such sorry sound quality on iTunes? On some of my purchases the sound level is suppressed on the audio. On others the volume is so low that if I have it set for another song and a new one starts I have to increase the volume to hear it.

Why such sorry sound quality on iTunes? On some of my purchases the sound level is suppressed on the audio. On others the volume is so low that if I have it set for another song and a new one starts I have to increase the volume to hear it.
There is so much distortion on some of the music I have to play it with QuickTime to get a "clean" track.
What can be done to get a consistent volume level or is this another typical Apple product that you have to take what you get and be happy because it's not a Microsoft product?

If that's the best you can do why don't you get on another forum?

  • Output sound level from gramophone and from computer should be the same

    Dear friends,
Why the output sound level isn't equal if we listen the LP directly from the gramophone (AUX1) or from the computer during the recording the track on the computer?
We are using The E-MU 0404 USB 2.0 Audio/MIDI Interface:
    http://ixbtlabs.com/articles2/proaudio/emu-0404-usb.html
    http://www.emu.com/products/product.asp?product=10447&nav=features
and we have connected E-MU with the (gramohone) speakers through the headphone output on the E-MU and turn the headphone level to the maximum, but the sound level is still lower from the same speakers.
If we compare the track after the recording with the LP on the gramphone is the level of the sound the same/equal.
So we need to have all three sound levels equal:
-from the LP form the gramophone
-from the computer during the recording
-from our track on the hard disk after the recording
    Thank you for your answer.

    function(){return A.apply(null,[this].concat($A(arguments)))}
Connecting loudspeakers to the headphone output on the E-mu sounds like completely the wrong thing to do altogether - you should
only connect headphones to a headphone output, and nothing else at all.
We will buy the cable as you mentioned and connect it in the line level (S/PDIF).
    function(){return A.apply(null,[this].concat($A(arguments)))}
Almost certainly you will need to adjust the monitoring levels in Patchmix to get this the way you want it
Then we will try to adjust the monitoring levels in Patch (I will report if and how did we manage it).

  • Sound level options for voice analysis

    I have two questions.
    I am analysing voice signals using GRAAS microphone, NI9234, cDAQ 9178 & labview 2011.   I am trying to produce a two dimensional graph of the signal with SPL (DB)(y-axis) versus frequency (x-axis).   I noticed that the SVT sound level.vi from the sound & vibration toolkit outputs into 4 different values;
    1. exponential averaging sound level (dB),
    2. Leq sound level (dB),
    3. running leq sound level (dB), and
    4. peak sound level (dB).
Which of this four should I use.
Is it right that I should use linear weightage for human voice analysis?
    Thanks in advance

If you've put the sound level to max & still not so comprehensible audio, it could be a hardware fault. A long shot, this haps to my friend check the small hole for the speaker if there is grit/dirt blocking it.
