Digits truncated in GPIB read with HP 8593 spectrum analyzer

When I read the information from the HP spectrum analyzer, only the first digit is read .
It works fine with other instruments

Can you provide some sample code of what you are doing?
What instruments does it work for?
By digit do you mean one bit, one byte, or one reading?
Were you expecting one reading or an array of readings?

  • How to read the data in spectrum analyzer (Anritsu MS2661C) and put it in Excel using Labview

Hi all, I'm new to using the labview, and I have some trouble doing my project using the labview software.
I have been trying to use the spectrum analyzer (Anritsu MS2661C) which connect to computer using the GPIB connection.
I have got the instrument driver which can write and control the instrument using Labview 2010.
and my Question is how do read the data or result from the spectrum analyzer and send it to the microsoft excel?
Do I need to use other software or programming to do this step?
If anyone know how is this done, please let me know.
    Regards,
    Ery

    Hi ery,
In order to send data that you have read in from an instrument to Excel, the most convenient way to do this would be to use our Report Generation Toolkit.  The Report Generation Toolkit is a very useful tool that allows you to interface to Microsoft Office software from LabVIEW, including Word and Excel.  I am not sure if you are familiar with this, but I have attached a link that explains more about the Report Generation Toolkit below.
Another way would be to use the Write To Spreadsheet File VI.  While this will store your data to a spreadsheet data file, it will not allow you to programmatically perform any Excel formatting like the Report Generation Toolkit offers.  I have also attached a link to some information on the Write To Spreadsheet VI below.
Also, be sure to check out the Example Finder in LabVIEW for a number of examples on how to write data to a spreadsheet file.  From LabVIEW, you can go to Help»Find Examples to launch the Example Finder.  From there, you can search for "spreadsheet," which should populate examples for use in different applications.  I hope this helps, ery.  Please let me know if you have any further questions about these!

  • GPIB read freezing when running vi without debug light ... (it works with the light)

I have a gpib read that spits out two values at a offset. This is in a loop thats defined by the initial , final and step size parameters. My question is, why does the gpib read freezes (or doesn't exectue; whenever I turn the debug light on(after it's been run), it 'lights' up only till the gpib read and nothing further). I replaced the gpib read with visa read , it doesn't freeze anymore but it only records zeros (when I can clearly see my system outputting some values). Any help would be appreciated.
*there was a similar topic about debug light and the reasoning was made to be a race condition. but I dont see how my situation is a race condition.

I wrote my code from an ancient driver set. I figured why to mess with something that's already working. So, I built it all on gpib.
This brings up an ancient scrap I have with National Instruments.  Namely, they advertize LabVIEW as something so easy to use, you can dive right in.  Well the truth is, you can dive right in, but it's guaranteed you will be writing horrible code, and much more easily than with any other programming language.
In reality, you really have to have training, formal (classes) or informal (books on LabVIEW), just like with any other programming language.  Because NI keeps promoting the LabVIEW Falsehood, you get managers that assign newbies to write complex code, and then you have issues like the one the poster has above.
I'll get off my soapbox now and return you to your local programming, already in progress...

  • Working with Binary data from the Gpib Read Function

I m using the gpib read command to recieve data from a gpib instrument. I already know the form of the binary data being sent back. I have programmed it in matlab before. I am haveing trouble parseing out the binary data I recieve. the basic form of the data is
#I immediately followed by 401 64 bit ieee floating point numbers. When I programmed this in matlab the code I used was of the form:
    [a,count,msg]=fread(g2,2,'int8');
    [a,count,msg]=fread(g2,401,'float64');
for those that don't know matlab code the command reads data from the instrument pointed to by the g2 handle. the number after the g2 above speicifies the number of values to read. And the last part the string in qoute specifies the way the binary data
is to be interepeted. the output arguments a count and msg are
    a-your data
count-number of items succesfully read in
    msg-error message
In the above two lines I use the variable a twice to capture the data. The first time a is set equal to '#I' everything inside the qoutes. The second time a is set equal to the actual data, in this case 401 64bit floating point numbers. I m convince that the flatten to string and unflatten from string function are the set meant to accomplish this task. But I haven't been able to find a good example of how to use these functions. Especially with an array.
Can some one please help me?
    Thanks
    Scourched

I'm pretty sure what you're describing is a simple typecast in LabVIEW. You will want to strip off the #I first, using string manipulation functions. Then, you can wire the string into a "typecast" VI, and wire a double precision float constant to the top connector of the typecast (this tells the VI that you expect a 64 bit float output) and then you can read your resulting array of double precision floats on the output of the typecast. The typecast VI is found in All Functions >> Advanced >> Data Manipulation.
I've attached an example in LabVIEW 7.0 and also 7.1 format.

  • Can I use my Samsung Galaxy 3 as my reader with digital editions?

Can I use my Samsung Galaxy 3 as my reader with digital editions?

You should install an app such as Bluefire or Aldiko, or for Overdrive if it is just for library books.
I don't think the device will actually show up in Digital Editions (ADE).
For non-DRM books you don't need ADE at all.
For DRM books you need to make sure the app is registered to the same AdobeID as your copy of ADE.
    You can than
get books onto ADE in the usual way,
'sideload' the .epub to the Galaxy; eg copy using a file manager such as Windows Explorer or Mac Finder
read the books on the Galaxy.
    Good luck.

  • GPIB reads/writes compared with VISA reads/writes

    Hello all,
Being slightly new to LV (3 months of casual use, and 1 month of really getting to know it)...
I was just wonder what the difference between VISA reads/writes and GPIB reads/writes.
Actually this is my main question: Is the GPIB Write "data" parameter and the VISA Write "write buffer" parameter the exact same thing?
Would I write the exact same command with either parameter and get essentially the same effect (if all parameters are correct?).
I have a list of GPIB commands that I want to use to write drivers for  a PSA, and I really want to use VISA, and not have to change my paradigm of thinking.
I would hope they are quite similar.  In fact, my research is telling me that GPIB is almost like a subset of VISA?
    Thanks for your help.

The data you write with the GPIB functions is identical to the data you write with VISA. There are some things that are a bit easier to use the traditional GPIB calls but for 99+% of the time, VISA will do the trick. VISA was originally conceived as a common api for GPIB and VXI instruments. The first VXI instruments were basically the same GPIB instruments without a power supply and the user interface (buttons, screen, etc.) but they required different drivers. VISA permitted a single driver to be used for both types of instruments. Now, VISA has expanded to include serial, Ethernet, USB, and PXI and not having to change your "paradigm of thinking" is one of the big reasons that VISA is so widely used.

  • How can I convert output data (string?) from GPIB-read to an 1D array?

    Hello all,
I am reading a displayed waveform from my Tektronix Oscilloscope (TDS3032) via the GPIB Read VI. The format of the waveform data is: positive integer data-point representation with the most significant byte transferred first (2 bytes per data point).
The output data of GPIB-Read looks like a string(?) where the integer numbers and a sign like the euro-currency sign are seperated by spaces e.g. #5200004C3 4 4 4 4 3C3C3........ (C represents the euro-currency sign).
How can I convert this waveform data into a 1D/2D array of real double floatingpoint numbers (DBL) so I can handle the waveform data for data-analysis?
It would be very nice if someone know the solution for this.
    t
    hanks

    Hi,
First of all, I'm assuming you are using LabVIEW.
The first you need to do is parse the string returned by the instrument. In this case you need to search for the known symbols in the string (like the euro sign) and chop the string to get the numeric strings. Here are some examples on parsing from www.ni.com:
    Keyword Search: parsing
Once you parse the numeric strings you can use the "String/number conversion VIs" in the String pallette.
    Hope this helps.

  • How to create a digital signature in adobe reader

how to create a digital signature in adobe reader?

Adobe Reader Touch (Windows Store app with "modern" UI) does not support any types of signatures yet.
    Digital Signatures with certificates
Electronic Signatures (that are legally enforceable)
Signature annotations (hand-writing annotations which may not be secure and legally enforceable)
Adobe Reader XI (traditional desktop app with classic UI) supports #1 and #3.
    Adobe EchoSign supports #2.
Adobe Reader for iOS/Android supports #3.

  • Problem creating PKCS# 12 Digital Signature in Adobe Reader X - where do I confirm the Password?

I cannot create a PKCS# 12 Digital Signature in Adobe Reader X. It says the passwords don't match when I create it. The problem is, I never was asked to confirm the P/W when I created it. It asked once for the P/W and then the only thing I can do is click "Finish" and then it says my P/W don't match. I am able to create a DS on my other computer using Reader 9 (and it did ask me to confirm the P/W when creating). I have re-booted my computer and still it will not work.

You'll need to ask in the Acrobat Pro forum. There are people there with expertise who can answer this. I use Acrobat myself, but I'm a novice when it comes to signature settings.

  • Count digital events on a Counter with pci-6602 with callback on CVI

    Hi,
I'm using a PCI-6602 card with CVI 8.5 and I need to trig on event.
On every pulse I received, I need to do some actions like increasing a counter, send a message on Rs232 etc.. I don't want to do any loop checking that the counter value has changed. I would like to use a callback to execute this code only on the edge or counter value event.
My problem is that I don't know which function can do this. Is there any way to get an event on a pci-6602?
     Thanks
    James
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hello.
It's completely possible to create a callback that will allow you to do what you want when a edge will occur on an external signal you define.
To do this, you can for exemple create a counting edges task that will use one of the 6602 counters, and the set your external signal to be the source of your sample clock. You'll then be able to register a callback with the function DAQmxRegisterSignalEvent, and your callback will be called each time an edge will occur on your specified sample clock source.
Here's 2 links that explain the events in DAQmx and how to handle them in CVI. The example ReadDigChan-ChangeDetectionEvent.pr that ships with DAQmx examples (Hardware Input and Output<<DAQmx<<Digital measurements) can be very useful to understand how to do. This example creates a signal event callback to detect change detection for digital inputs.
    Regards.

  • Generate digital waveform form a read from spreadsheet.vi

Hi, I'm very new to LabView and am having some problems in completing what I believed would be a very simple task.
I am using the Read from Spreadsheet.vi to read in an Ascii tab delimited file that I created in Matlab (the file is simple a vector of 1's and 0's that represent a binary stream) All that I want to do is take the output from this and generate a digital waveform corresponding to the 1's and 0's in the array but I cannot find a way of doing this.....
    Help much appreciated,
    Thanks.

You should be able to just run your data straight  in to the digital write function as long as you select the correct port width of your hardware.
If you want to do it with a digital waveform it's a bit trickier, the digital waveform data type is a surprisingly complex animal.
There might be a better way to do it, but this is what I've had to do in the past...
The "build digital data" function needs a 2D array in, so convert your 1D array into a 2D.
Then the digital data can be input into a Build Digital Waveform.
Then the digital waveform can be output with the write digital waveform.

  • Send data from GPIB Read Function to XY Graph

    hello
I'm really new to LabVIEW so this is probably an easy one, but I'm having a serious issue trying to figure this one out. how do I send data from GPIB Read Function to a graph, let's say XY Graph. my data consists of a string of numbers, separated by commas, alternating between X and Y values. for instance:
    0, 0, 0.1, 0.2, 0.2, 0.4, 0.3, 0.9, 0.4, 1.6, 0.5, 2.5, 0.6, 3.6, 0.7, 4.9
which would graph a parabola. I tried to connect the output (data) of BPIB Read Function to XY Graph, but I get an error. do I have to do something else before I send that data to the XY Graph? thanks for any suggestions.
    r.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

first of all, thanks a bunch for replying
I added "spreadsheet string to array function" and it looked OK (I didn't connect anything to 'array type' because I couldn't figure out what those blocks were - I'm really new to LabVIEW"
I couldn't find "decimate array" so I added "decimate 1D array," which is what my labVIEW listed (I have 8.6). I fed that directly into "express XY Graph," which lets me feed separate X and Y values (or so I assume). but, even though the input to "decimate 1D array" and output of "spreadsheet string to array function" say 'array' - the program is not happy. when I move my mouse over the 'x', the following is the message that I get:
"you have connected two arrays of different dimensions.
    The dimension of  is 2.
    The dimension of  is 1."
I'm not quite sure what that means. any suggestions what I can do with it?
