Directory index forbidden by Options directive:

Trying to setup a secure website. The folder is located in the users folder under sites. This is what the log file says and when you go to the address you get forbidden. Completely lost and new to this.

Hi
I solved it. The issue was that I have server.app installed and did not realize that I must use
/Library/Server/Web/Config/apache2/httpd_server_app.conf
instead of
/etc/apache2/httpd.conf
once I made those changes everything worked as it should.

  • Apache giving a Directory index forbidden by rule: /Users/me/Music/iTune

    I am trying to configure Apache to display my iTunes folders so that I can download them to my Playstation 3. The Playstation 3 either gives me a network error, or a "Directory index forbidden by rule: /Users/me/Music/iTunes/" in Apache. The network error on the PS3 seems to occur when Bonjour (?) rewrites the system name (I have entered the IP address) to "george-smiths-computer.local", since the playstation 3 doesn't know how to find this address.
    My rules in httpd.conf seem to be OK, so the second Directory error doesn't make sense:
    Alias /iTunes/ "/Users/me/Music/iTunes/"
    <Directory "/Users/me/Music/iTunes/">
    Options +Indexes MultiViews
    AllowOverride None
    Order allow,deny
    Allow from all
    </Directory>
    If I put index.html in the directory apache will find and display it, but still no directory index.
    I have a workaround by copying the files to /usr/share/httpd/icons, which DOES show the index:
    <Directory "/usr/share/httpd/icons">
    Options Indexes MultiViews
    AllowOverride None
    Order allow,deny
    Allow from all
    </Directory>
    Does anyone have any suggestions?
    Thanks!

    Hi--

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
    I played around with Apache and came up with a couple of things to look at. I can get it to give me the Directory index forbidden by rule: /Users/me/Music/iTunes/ error in the log if I mess up the Directory block by forgetting to put a quotation mark at the head of the block:
    <Directory /Users/charlie/Music/iTunes/">
    Also, I can get Apache to show me the 403 error if I have the case wrong on a directory in the path. In other words, if I did "Me" instead of "me" (assuming the home directory really is "me", I get a 403 error. But, strangely enough, it doesn't log it in the error log. So take a real close look at your paths in that directive (I'm assuming you didn't just copy and paste them out, since "me" seems like an unlikely user name).
    The "redirect" to the Bonjour name is more likely a result of content negotiation. I'd guess you're asking for the directory without a trailing "/" character. When that happens, Apache does a redirect to the same directory, but adds the trailing "/". You should be able to get around this by always specifying the "/" in the URL. You might also want to look in the Apache Docs at both the ServerName and UseCanonicalName directives.
    For example, if you don't care about redirects always working sensibly from outside your network (i.e., the Internet), you could always set the ServerName directive to the IP address of your server inside the LAN. And you could turn off UseCanonicalName, too. That would keep it from trying to use the Bonjour name to construct URLs in situations where it does these redirects.

    P.S.--Make sure you back up your http.conf file before you do a lot of hacking at it, just in case. You can always copy in the default, but it's a hassle if you've already done some successful customization...

    Are you running Apache?
    Try checking your
    Options -indexes
    value.
    If you have that set, try setting it to
    Options All
    Check this site for more info

  • Apache 2 & OSX 10.5 - Stop Directory Indexing

    Hi,
    I'm running a home-based web server on 10.5 and by default directory indexing seems to be on. That is, if you hit a directory on the web server with no index page in it then Apache returns a list of the files in the directory. I'd like to turn this off but don't know how.
    I think this used to be called fancy indexing under Apache 1.2 and there was an option for this, but in my private/etc/apache2/httpd.conf file this option no longer exists. An ideas?
    Many thanks,
    Pat

    You'll have to edit /etc/apache2/httpd.conf in the text editor of your choice. Assuming "path/to/WebserverDirectory" is where you want to turn indexing off, add the lines
    <Directory "path/to/WebserverDirectory">
    Options -Indexes
    </Directory>
    Every subdirectory will have indexing turned off. You can enable indexing for subdirectories with
    <Directory "path/to/WebserverDirectory/subdirectory">
    Options Indexes
    </Directory>
    When you're done editing, save your changes and turn Web Sharing (in the System Preference) off and then back on. Make sure to empty your caches when reloading in your web browser.

  • Error when creating index with parallel option on very large table

    I am getting a
    "7:15:52 AM ORA-00600: internal error code, arguments: [kxfqupp_bad_cvl], [7940], [6], [0], [], [], [], []"
    error when creating an index with parallel option. Which is strange because this has not been a problem until now. We just hit 60 million rows in a 45 column table, and I wonder if we've hit a bug.
    Version 10.2.0.4
    O/S Linux
    As a test I removed the parallel option and several of the indexes were created with no problem, but many still threw the same error... Strange. Do I need a patch update of some kind?

    This is most certainly a bug.
    From metalink it looks like bug 4695511 - fixed in 10.2.0.4.1

    Hi there,
    I just read this thread, and maybe someone here can answer my current trex question:
    I have created an ordinary CM repository, and created an index with this repository as source. Now the problem: I would like to exclude files in the repository with specific mimetypes from the TREX indexing process.
    I have verified that the TrexValidMimetypes.ini does not contain any reference to the Mimetypes I'm creating, but never the less, the document titles are searchable and are returned when searching.
    How do I get around this issue?
    Is it possible in NW04 or EP6.0 SP3 PXXX??

  • Problem crating text index with PREFIX_INDEX option

    I am trying to create a text index with prefixes option for use in wildcard search scenarios.
    Here is the code I use:
    connect CTXSYS/*******
    BEGIN
    ctx_ddl.create_preference('wildcard_pref', 'BASIC_WORDLIST');
    ctx_ddl.set_attribute('wildcard_pref','PREFIX_INDEX','TRUE');
    ctx_ddl.set_attribute('wildcard_pref','PREFIX_MIN_LENGTH',3);
    ctx_ddl.set_attribute('wildcard_pref','PREFIX_MAX_LENGTH',8);
    ctx_ddl.set_attribute('wildcard_pref','SUBSTRING_INDEX','YES');
    END;
    And preference is created
    SELECT PRE_OWNER, PRE_NAME FROM CTXSYS.CTX_PREFERENCES;
    PRE_OWNER PRE_NAME
    CTXSYS WILDCARD_PREF
    CTXSYS DEFAULT_STORAGE
    CTXSYS DEFAULT_CLASSIFIER
    Now when I log as one of the database users and try to create the index,
    I got this:
    create index wildcard_idx on MY_Table(Name)
    indextype is ctxsys.context
    parameters ('WORDLIST wildcard_pref') ;
    create index wildcard_idx on MY_Table(Name)
    ERROR at line 1:

    ORA-06512: at "CTXSYS.DRUE", line 160
    ORA-06512: at "CTXSYS.TEXTINDEXMETHODS", line 364
    What I am doing wrong ? Keep in mind that I was able to create a text index without the prefixes, but a lot of the searches will be based on patial word search.
    Eventualy I would also like to make those indexes be tansactional and work as a datastore (multiple column search)
    Thanks.
    Stefan

    Problem solved.
    Atrributes and preferences had to be created by the same user creating the index.
    Log as sysdba and
    GRANT EXECUTE ON CTX_DDL TO <user_that_creates_index>
    And it works.

  • ARIA Employee Directory -How to Print Multiple Direct Report On a page

    This question goes out to the experts. If we have person that has 10,15 or a large number of direct reports how can we print them on to a page so that they all fit. I am okay if they fall to another line just need to get them all on one page rather than multiple because they fall outside the print parameters?
    All help in this area would be greatly apprecaited
    Steve

    Maybe. Keep in mind HTML was never made for print. It's quite possibly the worst medium you could choose for print. You won't be able to establish page breaks or even draw consistent boxes. In short, I estimate the probability of success in creating an org chart with an HTML template to be somewhere around 1%. I just don't want to see you spend an absurd number of hours trying to build something that's really not possible.
    With that said, here are a few options to consider:
    - Microsoft Word and Visio both have Org Chart functionality, though I'm not sure if you can populate it with data from a database. This would be an offline solution wherein one of the developers would, on a periodic basis, generate a new version of the org chart, export it to PDF, then post it as a static file.
    - Oracle BI Publisher supports Word shapes for templates, including Org Charts per this documentation:
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E12844_01/doc/bip.1013/e12187/T421739T481157.htm#T481174
    though I think it might take effort to get the template to work. At least the output medium (PDF or RTF) is made for print.
    - GraphViz (http://www.graphviz.org) is the most promising online solution I can think of. It's a command-line tool, so you would need to
    -- generate the data in a file and output that to the file system of the database server (UTL_FILE)
    -- call the command-line utility via a dbms_scheduler job, since you need call an OS utility from inside the database
    -- provide a link to the output of graphviz.
    Take a look at this image, then click on it to see the code that generated it, since that's essentially the format you'll need to output:
    http://www.graphviz.org/Gallery/directed/unix.html
    There's my 2 cents. If someone is asking you to do this all in HTML, please send them a link to this post.

  • IB Section Index Row Count option

    I was wondering what the option "Section Index Row Count" in Interface Builder does?
    There's no option to tell IB how many sections there are in a UITableViewController and I thought that was the purpose of the methods numberOfSectionsInTableView and numberOfRowsInSection.
    I'm new to iPhone programming but it seems to ignore whatever you set in IB and uses the methods defined in UITableViewController

    I haven't read your code, but can make a guess at what's going wrong. Checkboxes do behave in a weird manner depending upon whether you have selected one or many.
    Assuming this is the statement where you are generating the checkbox :
    <input type="checkbox" name="checkBoxName" value="<%= someValue %>">
    What you could do is read the checked checkBoxes in an array :
    String[] values = request.getParameterValues("checkBoxName");
    int sizeOfValues = values.length;
    Then use the sizeOfValues to perform your delete action :
    if (sizeOfValues==1)
         performDelete();
    else
         for (int i=0; i<sizeOfValues(); i++)
              performDelete();
    Hope this technique works.

  • Opitons +indexes for /Users/*/Sites

    I want to enable directory listings (i.e., Options +Indexes) for folders served from users's home folders.
    The following is a list of things I've tried, all result in a Error 403 to the browser, and an entry in /var/long/apache2/error_log similar to: "[Tue Feb 01 22:30:16 2011] [error] [client $ip] Directory index forbidden by Options directive: /Network/Servers/$server/Users/$user/$dir/
    - Selecting 'Folder Listing' in Server Admin under Web > Sites for the server.
    - Selecting 'Allow All Overrides' on the same page and adding "Options +Indexes" to a .htaccess file in the directory where a listing is desired.
    - Adding a directory section to /etc/apache2/httpd.conf and/or /etc/apache2/sites/0000any_80$server.conf similar to:
    <Directory "/Users/*/Sites">
    Options +Indexes
    AllowOverride All
    </Directory>
    autoindex_module and userdir_module are enabled and working as far as I can tell. Files from /Users/*/Sites are being served as desired. I have restarted apache after making changes both with `sudo apachectl graceful`, and via Server Admin.

    can you please explain how you fixed this... i would like directory listing available for my account.

    Hi,
    On the landing page at the bottom it should say "change password".
    That brings you to a forbidden page?
    On my server I do not have the /auth/ folder in my default site, but my changepassword page does work.
    Can you check if going to https://127.0.0.1/changepassword does work? It will give an SSL error.
    Then it might be DNS related conflicting with another router/server in your network
    Or... charge $ 5 per user to change his or her password personally

    OK. I think I´ve found the solution. Apparently selinux needs to be in permissive mode:
    Check to see if permissive or enforcing
    cat /selinux/enforce
    0 = Permissive
    1 = enforcing
    If 1 run
    echo 0 > /selinux/enforce

  • Trouble connecting to Subversion

    I have the latest Subversion server setup on a dedicated Mac (OS 10.7.3) acting as a server. The Subversion server was installed and configured via UberSVN management interface from WANDisco. I am using the Subversion 1.6.18 binaries. According to Adobe, any sub version of the binaries (1.6.x) should work with Dreamweaver (Subversion 1.6.8 binaries) but mentions nothing about Adobe Drive.
    I setup a test repositry and successfully connected to it via Dreamweaver CS 5.5 and even checked in and checked out files with no problems. When I try to connect Drive to the repository, I get an error message saying that it cannot connect to the repository. The SVN logs show the following error:
    "[error] [client 192.168.***.***] Directory index forbidden by Options directive: /opt/ubersvn/htdocs/content/dam/"
    Anyone have any idea?
    Has anyone successfully connected to a Subversion server via Adobe Drive 3?

    I am tyring to use the CMIS connection. I have read on forums and in articles that Subversion works with CMIS 1.0 standards, but none of them were official. I can only find refernces implying that Subversion works with Drive.
    Dreamweaver has a built-in, albiet limited, Subversion client that allows for simple check in/check out functionality and to view the different revisions of a file within a Subversion repository. I only mentioned that I was able to connect via Dreamweaver to show that there is nothing wrong with the Subversion server or connection.
    Can anyone confirm that Drive can/cannot connect to Subversion servers or that Subversion does/does not support the CMIS 1.0 standard?
    Also, why do all the Adobe Sales people not know what CQ DAM is? I wanted info on pricing but no one seems to know what it is?!

    Thanks, but this didn't work for me.  I did a fresh install, so there was no subfolder in my Barnes and Noble folder.
    I tried the second suggestion from NA Smith too, but that didn't work either.
    I had this problem last year on my imac, and I gave up on Barnes and Noble. But I had one book I wanted to access (a diet book), and tried again on my new Macbook Pro.... same frustrating thing, even after all this time - shame on B&N!!!
    So, I bought the one book again, this time at Amazon.  I feel sorry for anyone who has bought many ebooks from B&N - they are definitely not even trying to be serious about their software - I assume the have a couple high-school kids working part time (?).
