Disable execute on startup
Sirs,
How do I stop a VI from running when I open it. I wrote a VI that runs on startup when you open the *.vi file. I think I selected this option from the file menu in the vi properties menu.
However, I also have the VI automatically close after the VI stops. As a result, I cannot edit the program. Do you know of any special open options where I could open it without running the VI, or prevent it from closing when I ececute it?
Or do I have to start over?
I use Labview 7.1.
Thank you,
Joe
The quickest way to fix this is to drop this VI as a subVI into a new VI. Then you can open it and change the properties to be what you would like.
Hope that this helps,
Bob Young

How do I disable the automatic startup on HP Photosmart Premier when I turn my computer on?
Someone else posted ths question a month ago, but still no answers. Anyone?
How do I disable the automatic startup on HP Photosmart Premier when I turn my computer on?
Windows XP, SP3 operating system recently re-installed so I also reinstalled my printer software. Now, for some reason, each time I turn my computer on, my HP Photosmart C4100 all-in-one photosmart premier software opens. It is not in my startup. This slows down my computer terribly, which is why I never used the program before my re-install. How can I disable this feature? I only print, I don't use it for photos.
Any help here is appreciated.Run msconfig.exe from the start button (type in msconfig). When it comes up go to the Startup tab and find and deselect the HP product you do not want to start. Save and reboot computer. Now try.
Say thanks by clicking the Kudos Thumbs Up to the right in the post.
If my post resolved your problem, please mark it as an Accepted Solution ...

I cannot install Creative Suite 5.5 on my Windows 7 Professional. I keep getting error message: "Exit Code: 15 - Media DB sync failed". I have disabled UAC and Startup items and Services with no luck. Can you please help?
I am sorry Erickkasner but there is no longer direct support provided for Creative Suite 5.5 installation issues.
You are welcome to post any specific errors you are able to discover within your installation log to this discussion. Since you are using Windows then Exit Code 15 could mean one of the following:
Installer database is corrupted
Update pending to your operating system
Improper permissions set for the Media.db
The installation log file should provide additional insight into the exact error you are experiencing. Please make sure to use the find command to look for the words 'ERROR' and 'FATAL' to locate the relevant error messages. -
Everytime I start up my MacBook Pro, I get this message. 'Insecure Startup Disabled.' "/Library/Startup items/HP Trap Monitor" has not been started because it does not have the proper security settings.
Update your HP Printer drivers/software at their website or uninstall using the developers method.

Authorization object to disable execute Button in Workflow Inbox
I have a scenario where user can able to see workflow in Inbox but they are not suppose execute workflow(Disable Execute Icon), what is the authorization object i need to use to disable this.
Thanks,
NarCan you modify the method that is executed when you click the work item itself (is it a standard one)? If yes, just code a authorisation check there before the actual code.
Or user authorisation trace to find out a possible authorisation checks when executing the work item. Hard to imagine that someone would know the object for this unlikely scenario. Or check that which transaction is launched from the code, and see if there is already some nice authorisation check (also with the trace).

[SOLVED] .xinitrc is not executed at startup
I would like a window manager or a desktop environment to start on startup. I do not have display manager installed. Currently, logging in gives me a terminal, in spite of having modified .xinitrc.
My ~/.xinitrc file is:
#!bin/sh
exec awesome
The result is the same (login to terminal) when I replace "awesome" with "startlxde" (I have installed both). Curiously, when logged in to a terminal, running the command "startx" successfully launches either awesome or lxde; depending on which I list in .xinitrc.
Additional Information
I have recently installed Arch following the Beginner's Installation Guide (bootloader Syslinux). I had the tiny display manager (tdm) installed from AUR at one point; this functioned fine (choosing whichever DE/WM I wanted). I believe that the .xinitrc worked prior to installing tdm; I am suspicious that this may have something to do with it.
These are the contents of /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc (which I believe executes in the absence of a .xinitrc in ~).
#!/bin/sh
userresources=$HOME/.Xresources
usermodmap=$HOME/.Xmodmap
sysresources=/etc/X11/xinit/.Xresources
sysmodmap=/etc/X11/xinit/.Xmodmap
# merge in defaults and keymaps
if [ -f $sysresources ]; then
xrdb -merge $sysresources
fi
if [ -f $sysmodmap ]; then
xmodmap $sysmodmap
fi
if [ -f "$userresources" ]; then
xrdb -merge "$userresources"
fi
if [ -f "$usermodmap" ]; then
xmodmap "$usermodmap"
fi
# start some nice programs
if [ -d /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc.d ] ; then
for f in /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc.d/?*.sh ; do
[ -x "$f" ] && . "$f"
done
unset f
fi
twm &
xclock -geometry 50x50-1+1 &
xterm -geometry 80x50+494+51 &
xterm -geometry 80x20+494-0 &
exec xterm -geometry 80x66+0+0 -name login
I have also tried using the default .xinitrc from /etc/skel/.xinitrc and adding the exec command at the end (this file has some additional for loops in the beginning); this made no difference.
All files (/usr/bin/awesome, /usr/bin/startlxde, ~/.xinitrc) are executable.

The result is the same (login to terminal) when I replace "awesome" with "startlxde" (I have installed both). Curiously, when logged in to a terminal, running the command "startx" successfully launches either awesome or lxde; depending on which I list in .xinitrc.
This is exactly what should happen. .xinitrc is not supposed to be "executed at startup" unless you configure your bash (or zsh) profile to run startx. If you want to go straight from power on to X, you need to configure both automatic login and start X at login.
See the wiki for more details.

Hello, I got a question : Can i automatically disable wifi at startup but it should be easy to enable it with the HP Wireless button.------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ We got a company that mainly works on cable but the wifi automatically connects to the wireless network.That will take away performancy and fills the wireless lease for nothing. I know there is an option in the HP Bios that it will only connect to wireless or only to the cable. But this is not a perfect solution for us. I'm looking for an option that at startup the wifi is off but the workers can start it by pressing the wifi button and it will connect to the company's wireless network. Thanks in advance allready!
Do you mean disabling the power-on beep or disabling all audio?

Getting an automator script to execute at startup
Hello everyone,
How do I get an automator script/app/workflow to execute at startup? Other than by adding the app to the user startup items?
Thanks a million,
CecileI'd guess that there is an app out there that would run something at startup...
You probably want to look at this thread.

I don't understand why you wouldn't just put it in the startup list, but these may take care of it. -
Disable portal,km startup in multi-application dual stack
Hello,
We have a dual stack ECC installation with ESS,MSS,Portal and XECO on the java stack. We are currenty trying to run debug against the XECO components on the java stack. It appears that the debugger is getting very slow due to the multiple java applications. We would like to disble portal(km,cm), ess and mss for a few weeks while we complete our debugging with XECO.
Is there anyway to disable the startup of portal,ess and mss?
thanks in advance
VipinHello Vipin,
You can turn off any Java application easily from Visual Admin.
Just login into Visual Admin and goto Cluster -> Server -> Services -> Deploy then in Runtime tab select Radio button Application. You will see all your Java application here. If you see check mark in front of your application, the app is running but if you see "x" sign then it's stopped.
Select your application and click on "Stop Application" button on right side.
Hope this will help you.

Daemon requires root privileges (failing to execute on startup)
Greetings,
I am trying to get this daemon to run on startup. Systemd loads it successfully on startup, but when it trys to run the daemon it outputs an error and therefore it is does not run:
Process: 1041 ExecStart=/usr/bin/pommed -f (code=exited, status=1/FAILURE)
I tried to run the daemon myself, and I received the error:
E: pommed needs root privileges to operate
I changed the premissions and the ownership of the file and I still get the same error.
I would appreciate your insight on solving this problem.
Thank you!

How to restore disabled chimes at startup?
Somehow my startup chimes have been disabled, and I'd like to return it to its normal setting. How do I do this?
If you have an external speaker system plugged into the audio output jack, unplug it, adjust the internal speaker volume and then plug the external speakers back in.
If you are using StartupSound.prefPane, refer to this > StartupSound.prefPane link for adjusting and/or uninstalling the utility. -
Dbora script not executing all startup processes
Hi,
I am running Oracle10gR2 on RHEL4. I am having issues with my dbora script. I read quite a few of the posts about it and most people were having similar issues as me. However, I was still not able to get it to work properly. I am going to paste my dbora script and all the other things that I am suppose to do like edit the /etc/oratab file. The main problem I am having is that not all the process that need to be started are starting up. I've been messing around with the /etc/rc.d/init.d/rc.2..rc.3...rc.4...etc files and trying different combinations and they all give me different results. However, the one thing that never starts up is the database. I can get the listener to work and sometimes http server also, but never the database. And another weird thing is that when I check the logs (/var/log/boot.log) it says that the opmn process, for example, has been started, but when I check the status it is down. Here is how things look now.
The /etc/oratab file
# This file is used by ORACLE utilities. It is created by root.sh
# and updated by the Database Configuration Assistant when creating
# a database.
# A colon, ':', is used as the field terminator. A new line terminates
# the entry. Lines beginning with a pound sign, '#', are comments.
# Entries are of the form:
# $ORACLE_SID:$ORACLE_HOME:<N|Y>:
# The first and second fields are the system identifier and home
# directory of the database respectively. The third filed indicates
# to the dbstart utility that the database should , "Y", or should not,
# "N", be brought up at system boot time.
# Multiple entries with the same $ORACLE_SID are not allowed.

I would also appreciate if someone could tell me how these rc.2 execute and what order.
Thank you all.Ok, I have tried your combination as well as other ones for the runlevels and they all took an hour or more to get the server back up again. The current configurations bring up the server within a few minutes, however, the database nor opmn process is starting. I was wondering if you could still help me? Recent History stopped working;All extensions keep being disabled upon FF startup.
Before installing version 13.0.1, FF would save my history. Now for some reason, it doesn't.
Along with this, version 13.0.1 had been set to NOT display thumbnails of past viewed webpages upon startup. Now it does. In the process of troubleshooting, I finally got rid of this problem but that's when the previously described "no history" problem came up.Hey cor-el, thanks for replying. Fortunately (or unfortunately, depending on how one looks at it) my problems with FireFox disappeared as quickly as they appeared.
So I took a deep breath and installed FF13 over version 12 and what to my surprise - the problems I had been experiencing all went away. My browsing history started working again, my plugins were not all disabled when I restarted FF13, and I figured out how to start FF13 with a blank page instead of with the new tabs page. (That, my friend, is a huge blunder on the part of Mozilla, and I have read that a fix is imminent - July 17 IIRC.
'''Corollary to Murphy's Law:''' ''Problems that go away by themselves come back by themselves. ''
So thanks for hanging in there with me. I appreciate it, especially your explanation of what happens when the cache is cleared.
Still a couple of (new) problems but I'll describe those in another thread.
