Disappearing png in IE6

I have a png created thusly:
In FW - Simple rectangle of solid color, with transparency
slider set it
to 65% opaque. In Optimize panel set: png8,
AlphaTransparency, Web
Adaptive, Colors 256. Then Export it.
This produces a nice semitransparent image when added to a
page, in FF2
and IE7.
In IE6 (and 5.5) (Standalones) it displays not as an opaque
image as I
would expect and desire, but as completely transparent! Are
my Optimize
settings wrong? Something else? Might this be an IE
Standalone version
issue, one that I can not locate by googling??
Thanks for any ideas.

IE6 actually has partial support for the palletized alpha
channels in PNG 8
files. I would imagine that's your problem.

  • Using "pngfix.js" for PNGs in IE6

    Hi folks,
Thanks to Murray, I've been using the javascript/css
"pngfix.js" hack on many client's sites to get IE6 to display the
PNGs properly. This has worked flawlessly until today.
    The beta url is
    http://center4spine.com.s11267.gridserver.com/.
If you're using IE6, you'll see that under the main nav there is a
gap on the sides. That's the way the PNGs are suppose to behave.
Everything outside the main box that is grey is supposed to be
transparent, just like email/phone number image, but it isn't. The
only difference between the email/phone number image and the other
PNG images is that the others are backgrounds. But I've using PNGs
as backgrounds on several customer sites and this is the first time
    I've run into this problem.
Has any had this issue previously, or can anyone explain
what's going on? This is highly unusual... Relevant structural CSS
    attached below.

    forgettabout it, IE6 is dead.

  • Can't get png IE fix to work

hi everyone. i'm doing a new site and decided to go with pngs
    for my
topper graphic with transparency since gif is supposedly
    dead, or
whatever. i searched here and the web for a good fix for IE6-
    and
    decided on Supersleight
    http://24ways.org/2007/supersleight-transparent-png-in-ie6).
    i must be
doing something wrong because i can't for the life of me get
    it to work!
the png is the background image for the topper div, but this
    fix is
supposed to work on background images. also, if i put that
    same image
elsewhere in the page, it still doesn't work. however, if i
    put it on an
empty page with nothing but the background, it does work. so
    it seems
like there must be something in my template that's causing it
    to not work.
    could somebody please help me?

  • IE6/CSS browser issue- any idea why this is not working?

    http://www.wilmerdds.com/test/index.htm
If you look at the left column, you will see a black box.  It shouldn't be black. it should match the bg color of the column.  Any idea why this is happening?

    Hi
The problem is that you are using a png, and IE6 does not support png transparency. You could try using the iepngfix from - http://www.twinhelix.com/css/iepngfix/.

  • File Info not saving in PS

Upon entering File Info and saving the image in Photoshop, all metadata disappears. However, If I apply a metadata template in Bridge, the metadata stays. What may be causing the File Info to not save with the image in PS?
Usig Bridge would be okay, however, I want to create layered images and keep all the metadata. If I attempt to do so in PS, the metadata for all image layers disappear.

PNG file format does not support layers. Even Layer document that support layers may well not have meta data for all images used within a composite. Composites images made using Photoshop place to place in image files as smart object layers may have meta data for placed in image files in the smart object layer's embedded object but that metadata would not be available for use within Photoshop. You would need to open the embedded object in the appropriate application or plug-in to get at that metadata. In fact a composite image file with image file meta data is most likely for the meta data of base image used when the composite image files was created.

  • How save image to appear sharp, clear bkgd in IE Windows?

I have an html page that has logos with fine repro areas in it, I want a clear background so I used pngs which are sharper than gifs. They look great in the mac browsers and in Firefox in Windows.
But when I open it in Windows IE6 it shows white backgrounds instead of clear...
Is there another way to save them? I thought Windows and IE liked pngs?

This is a well-known shortcoming in older versions of IE. Here is one take on it:

  • Trouble opening website via Internet Explorer on PC

Hi there, I have recently published two websites with iWeb, both of which open and run superbly in Safari on the Mac but when you try and open them on Internet Explorer on a PC only the top of the page will download and the rest of the site is invisible. Does anyone know why this is? I am using iWeb version 1.1.2 and have created both sites on my iMac which is running OS X 10.4.9 if this helps?
I hope someone out there can help? I can give you the website addresses if you need further info?

Due to my customer's most common setup I had to address these IE6 issues as well. Some background may illustrate the problems. Not only has IE6 difficulties with .png, but as well for example with lists (in case you use them, they are an undocumented feature of iWeb and somehat buggy), and more. To solve some of the .png issues iWeb spends some code utilizing "Active Script". That drives IE6 to render the page almost completely, and then the script will fix some of the ugly behavior. You can check that by your elements to navigate on top of your pages (these unfortunatley become .png) within IE6, or with the buttons to start a slideshow.
What I found on your first page: Move the cursor over it, it turns to be a senstive area to start the user's mail program to send a mail to info@... - try to remove that first.
Even more, there are a lot of setups of IE6 where "Active Script" is forbidden (in banks, insurances companies etc.). Ever tried to force a large organizition to migrate to IE7? Or to allow Active Script, let's say for 30.000 users? You'll get the impact...
So here is what I did to obtain some compatibility with IE6:
    Installed IE6 on Paralles.
    Switched "Active Script" to "Never".
Now you can check what is going on
    In my pages:
Reengineered every element to navigate manually - no iWeb automatism, switched them all to off with iWeb's inspector
Reconstructed every picture to the size they should be /outside/ of iWeb, using Graphics Converter
Removed every frame from all text elements in iWeb
Switched to web and windows compatible fonts (e.g. Courier to Courier New)
Checked every page to contain plain text instead of graphic - click into the rendered page and try to drag: Does the the whole block move? Then you are on the wrong way
Removed every formatting attribute from the text: Alignment, Highth etc.
The only element I couldn't cover is the button for the slideshow - but I've read somewhere else that you can define an object and associate that with a link directly to the script on your server which iWeb puts there. But of course that does not help in case where your favorite visitors are cut off from using Active Script completely.
    Good Luck!

All I'm hearing out of mods is "Some people don't like this feature", implying that there are actually people that enjoy this horrifying experience they're putting us through. Can anyone actually find me a thread praising any of the changes the mods are pretending some people like?

The source for your embedded images is  "C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Desktop\Vish\NI\Disappeared.PNG"  Only you have access to that file.
If you want to embed the images.
    1.  Post the message with the images attached.  (Which you did.)
    2.  Click the editmessage link under the Options drop down to edit the message.  (You have to do this within 10 minutes of first posting.)
    3.  Right click on the attachments and select properties.  Copy the address which will point to a location on the NI website (not your hard drive.)
In your case, one is http://forums.ni.com/attachments/ni/130/4399/2/Appeared.PNG
    4.  Go to the spot in the message where you want to insert the image.  Click the image button.
    5.  Paste the address into the pop up dialog.
    6.  Repeat for all of the images you want to embed.
Now when you post, you and everyone else will be able to see the images rather than just you.

  • PNG Transparency Fix for IE6

Hope somone can help with this. Basically I have a PNG image with a transparancy to sit over a gradient background, like this :
    http://www.hpwebdesign.co.uk/mklink/index102.shtml
The little graphics next to campaign metrics are OK, but the main header image they sit in with the light blue gradient and hand graphic etc is not - the little areas around the curved corners should be transparent but are not (in IE6).
I assume this is because that is a background image for the <div> being referenced in the CSS, rather than dropped into the page directly.
So I guess my question is can this be overcome?
    Thanks.

IE 6 doesn't support transparent PNGs natively. You will either have to resort to Javascript hacks to force IE 6 to render it correctly (although these do not work for repeated background images in CSS), use a lowest common denominator image format (GIF), or use conditional commenting to give IE 6 it's own stylesheet with it's own image to get something somewhat like what the other browsers will see.
Or just not worry what IE 6 sees as long as your site content is accessible and usable.

  • Spry submenus disappear on hover with jquery in IE6 only

Help:  I thought I had everything working perfectly until trying this site in IE6:
    www.fstflorian.com/biolabs.html
Things work perfectly in firefox 3, 3.5, IE7, google chrome, and IE8. IE6 causes the menu to disappear on rollover. I've worked on this for probably 10 hours since discovering the problem, adjusting z-index, etc etc to no avail, so I thought I would ask the experts.  The problem does not exist when jquery / supersized is not running.  I also discovered that changing from absolute positioning in the standard spry IE hack area begins to change whether/not the submenus disappear but the menu arrangement turns into a huge mess.
I know my syntax isn't perfect... just trying to make things fully operational (site has gone live at least in limited function to meet deadline).  Later I will look for help on cleaning things up a bit.
    Thank you!

  • Png transparency issues in IE6

I've had an absolutely lovely time today trying to make my
header logo (a transparent .png) display correctly in IE6. I guess
I might be better off giving up on it, but at this point I don't
want to let go of it (plus I'd like the page to look better). I
    used the pngfix.js fix from
    Bob
Osala's site. I put the JavaScript in the same folder as my
template, and followed the instructions given on the site.
When I check the template page in IE6 it looks just fine, but
when I check the web pages using the template, the logo displays
with the dreaded bluish gray background. Here's what my test page
    looks like:
    Feed-back.com test
    page
IE6 doesn't even see the code. I obviously don't understand
how this works. Anybody have any thoughts or suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Dana

    Dana,
Your page is looking for the pngfix.js here but it's not
    there.
    http://feed-back.com/pngfix.js
I typically place my scripts into a folder called Scripts. So
    my code would
    look like this:
    <!--[if lt IE 7]>
    <script defer type="text/javascript"
    src="Scripts/pngfix.js"></script>
    <![endif]-->
Also, just so you know, pngfix.js doesn't work on background
    images.

  • IE6 PNG Problem and IE Alignment

    http://www.jdcdemo.com/blf/index.html
The PNG people image, processed in PSCS3 with transparent BG
looks as expected in FF, but IE6 adds a blue background. I still
have the original psd image with a layer mask to make the
transparency, so I can go back to square one with the image if
necessary. Is this an IE6 thing or have I done something wrong.
Also the headline table is a bit higher than the side bar to the
right and I have not been able to fix that. I am transitioning from
GLCS2 to DWCS3 and this is my first serious endeavor with DW.
    Thanks in advance,

PS: The help I've been getting on this board is
    grrrrrrrrrrrrreat!

It is an IE problem. 6 & lower do not support PNG 24-bit
    transparency. You
can make it work. There are several workarounds. This seems
    to be the most
    popular:

  • PNG images disappear when linked from FM

I am testing the Technical Communication Suite 4. My images are mostly JPGs, and they transfer correctly when I update Robohelp from a linked FrameMaker file. However, I have found that PNG images in the FrameMaker file simply disappear from the update. They don't appear in the Robohelp topic. There is no trace of them in the HTML code view in Robohelp either.
Have others had this experience? Is there a solution?
I am told PNGs are preferable to JPGs in some cases because they load faster on the target device (an iPad, in the case I was told about).

Frankly, I forget because I don't have images in my content. If you don't have a copy of FM8 Fundamentals at hand, try checking the scriptorium.com KB for the info.

  • IE6 problems with PNG files (no, not transparency)

For some reason, although all the images seem to appear just
    fine, IE6 keeps
acting like it can't finish loading the two PNG files on the
    page. It just
hangs at the last byte, it seems. I can leave the browser for
    an hour and
I'll still come back to a status bar indicating 1 file
    remaining, *.png
(even though that file is visible and fully loaded
    on-screen).
    http://www.vilverset.com/mark.html
It's like IE6 can't "close the connection" on PNG files once
    it's opened for
    download.
It more than likely has something to do with the attached
    pngfix.js file to
enable alpha channel filtering in IE6. But since Murray
    recommended this
specific fix, I won't go out looking for another one. There
    might just be a
    typo somewhere causing this.
    Thanks.
