Disappointment with iBooks 1.1 PDF support
Unless I'm missing something…
The only way to get a PDF into iBooks 1.1 for it to be an attachment in Mail. You have to download the attachment, QuickLook it, then click the "Open in…" button near the top. If you have a collection of PDFs you want on your iPad, you have to email them to yourself to get them on it.
But wait, there's more. If your PDF is "too large," you cannot open it in Mail. How large is too large? I'm not sure of the cutoff, but a couple of 21 MB magazines would not open for me.
There does not seem to be a way to open a PDF in Safari and put it in iBooks like there is with Mail.
I have been using forScore to read PDFs, and they have the ability to sync PDFs under the Apps tab in iTunes. That would have been a nice feature for iBooks.
If anyone has figured out a better way to get PDFs into iBooks, please share it.
Um, because sometimes the obvious isn't so obvious to those like me who are thinking too much?
Sorry. I tend to assume everyone uses applications like Calibre or iTunes for centralized management of content rather than using multiple applications having parallel operations which often require multiple steps to accomplish the same ends. Use whatever approach best suits your work flow or with which you are most comfortable. I'm simply lazy and prefer doing everything in one place.

I make my own content (what I refer to as "self publishing") from free public domain content available on the internet which I would probably never buy on my own if I had to pay for it. So for me, it was quite natural to simply adapt my current ePUB making work flow include the new PDF capabilities now included in both Itunes and iBooks.
However, being able to get the PDFs from Safari would be a nice feature, hopefully a future version.
You can always request it be added as a future Safari enhancement (i.e. use the feedback form). If enough people request it, it will likely be included in a future update of the mobile Safari app.

When you buy an iPhone in the U.S. it's locked to that country with the carrier you bought it for.
If you bought the device unlocked in the U.S. it's unlocked, you can use it on any carrier. Even one's outside the country.
If you want to do a repair on a device you bought in the U.S. and your using it in another country, you must send it back to the U.S. Why? That's where you bought it from.
AppleCare Protection Plans and AppleCare Limited Warranties are registered to your hardware.
Your hardware is your iPhone.
Wherever hardware that was bought then that's the country it was designed to be used in and that's where it was manufactured.
Apple is very localized - if you call U.S. tech support, you'll speak to somone in your country.
So, what does all this mean?
In order to do a repair, you need to send it back to the country you got it from.
And we're all customers like you. We understand that you're upset, but Apple isn't gonna bend the rules to one individual.
Policy is policy. Get over it. -
E4200 - Disappointed with lack of external HD support
I purchased this router to replace a Cisco router (don't remember the model number anymore). I purchased the E4200 back when it was first released. First problem I ran into was it would not recognize the external HD I plugged into it. Yet the same external HD was running on the previous Cisco router with no issues. We could no longer back up over the network to the HD drive. Now, several months later, and even with the latest .04 firmware the router still does not see the external HD. Now I don't know if I should purchase another external HD and take a chance for find a different router. Very disappointed that a feature that worked just fine in the previous model version doesn't work on the E4200.
Otherwise range seems okay compared to my previous router. No better, no worse. Who is the Manufacturer of the USB Storage Device and what is the Storage Capacity of the device?
With the latest FW 1.0.0.3, it supports upto 3TB Hard drive with NTFS and HFS+ format.
What is the current firmware version on your router ?

Very disappointed with iBooks Desktop
All the books are moved onto the boot drive
File names are mangled
No "Get Info"
No "Type" column in the view -- I want to be able to separate my PDF's and ePub's
More grumbles as I think of them.Call Apple and demand your money back and a restoration of the previous version of iBooks for OS X.

Very Disappointing With BT Lack Of Support !!!
Hello Everyone
I would like to know how long a reported line fault takes BT to send out an engineer? As at the present time i have no dialling tone on my phone line to which i have now been unable to use my phone for over 14 days. As my phone connection is not working properly this is also restricting my broadband (ADSL 2 Up To 24mb ) Connection down to just 23kb/s which it now struggles to load most webpages. This is the third time i have had my phone line go dead in the last 24 months but have never waited this long for an engineer to come out !! I'm very disappointed with BT Lack Of Customer Support !! And i have already contacted your support team through your online email service as i'm unable to make any phone calls (Including 999 Emergency Calls If Needed) due to the problem. And so far nothing has been done by BT to solve this problem !!Thank you for your reply. My connection is so bad i'm unable to get the webpage of your link to load so i cannot use the page to submit the problem !! It has taken me a number of days just to get this page to load & i supposed to be on super fast ADSL 2 this is a joke i'm not even getting the old 56k dial up speed !! My phone has today just reconnected it'self with a dialing tone It is now extremely crackly you can bearly hear the person that calls which states BT has done nothing to fix the fault again I have already contacted them 3 times already I will try phoning them again tomorrow & this will be there last chance before i either close the account & go with a mobile phone service package or transfer my BT account to a different phone provider to see if someone else out there in the UK can actually send out an engineer to fix the fault !! I have never recieved such poor service ever before so if i have no choice but to leave BT then i will NEVER return in the future !!

IBooks PDF support not available in iPod touch 3rd gen!!???!?!?!?!
I installed the iBooks app in my 3rd gen iPod touch today and I can sync books I bought in my iPad pretty well....but I do NOT have PDF support!!! (After I updated the app my iPad was capable to do so)
I've seen screenshots in Engadget and other sites that are running the same app in different iPhone 3GS as well as in 3rd gen iPods....so, why can't I have the feature in mine!!!
Does anybody knows whats going on with it? Plz help!
UPDATE: I've checked Apple's page for the iOS4 update for the iPod touch, and the PDF viewing option in the iBooks app DOES APPEAR on the official screenshot!!! Check it out!

I understand where you are about being your own IT department, it can be overwhelming ...
What drives to buy depends an awful lot on how you will use them, what your budget is, and your preferences.
In the case of your DP Powermac, for online storage used primarily for editing, I would add one or more internal drives first. Look for drives that are at least 7200rpm and have at least an 8MB cache. 10,000rpm/16MB cache is even better, but more expensive. Seagate Barracudas have always been good choices.
For backup purposes, I'd pick some good external FireWire drives; you can also use these for online editing, lots of people do. Your Mac has both FW400 and FW800 ports - either kind is fine but if you get drives that support both, you would want to connect them to the FW800 port for the added performance.
In my experience, the Lacie d2 Extreme drives have been very very good. In fact I have 3 of them daisy-chained off my iMac G5 right now and they work flawlessly with FCE. Weibetech and Granite Digital drives are further upscale in performance and price. RAID configurations would be even further upscale. Do stay away from consumer level hard drives, however ... the Western Digital MyBook series & no-name drives come to mind ...
Don't use a FireWire hub for your external drives, it's just asking for trouble.

I have an iPad 2, and I am sending PDF files to my iPad, via a Hotmail account. But, the PDF arrives to the iPad Mail account already opened at the bottom of the email. Is there a way to prevent this auto-opening of the PDF. I've seen screen shots with the box, and PDF listed inside the box, but mine open automatically. I want to get them into iBooks...?
I am having the same problem and it is even bigger.
When opening a 1-page PDF in iBooks and sending it via mail it is sent inline as preview, but the recipient cannot open the file anymore. Also on iPad and iPhone there is no "open in" possible.
Somehow the mail app does destroy the file. What is going wrong? -
On my iPad, I'm trying to open a PDF from Safari with iBooks, but when I choose "Open with ..." in Safari, only Pages and Dropbox show as options. I'm running iOS 7.1.2 and iBooks 3.2. I have rebooted the iPad and that did not help, and reinstalled iBooks, which also changed nothing. Thanks for any ideas!
Yup, it was uploaded to our school Wiki as a PDF, and Pages did open it. I was then able to move it to iBooks, but I'd rather avoid the extra steps.

Does the iPad and iBooks only sync in iCloud for purchases as I appear to be doing something wrong. I could sync ok when books was in iTunes but since migrating to Mavericks I think I'm doing something wrong!!

I have more than 2500 pdf documents in my MacBookPro, but I can't open them with iBooks. I don't know what happens. The iBooks worked properly until my upgrade to Yosemite. Is now a problem using Yosemite?
Same issue! I open my PDF in iBooks 1.1, but it open with Preview.

Every time I download a PDF file then open it with iBook didn't open directly until I shut down the iBook or the iPad then open the PDF file again, it wasn't like this befor, how can I fix it please.
Please try turning Enhanced Protected Mode OFF in IE10 and see if it makes a difference. Navigate to Internet Options, select the Advanced Tab, scroll down to the Security section, and uncheck the box that says "Enable Enhanced Protected Mode".

I want to open PDF's with iBooks. I am using Mavericks, so I drag and drop the files in the iBooks library and still opens with adobe. I also try the "open with" option and it says the file is damaged.

When I open PDF's in Ibooks, it uses preview not ibooks. So I presume that your default for PDFs is adobe. I suggest that you post your query on the iBooks for mac forum.

Opening pdfs with ibooks ipad: problem
Hi,
I found that many people have this problem: opening a pdf (that's attached to an email) with ibooks, used to work perfectly.
And now it doens't anymore.
Sometimes (1 on 20 tries) it does work. Often the pdf lights up for a second in ibooks, and then disappears again.
I tried doing a reinstall as advised on many fora, but this doesn't help.
Any other ideas why this happens, and a solution?
It's a shame, cos it was such a fast way of working.

Jan.I have been experiencing this problem for over a month now. Seems a bug in iBooks. However, if I close the iBooks and then from email try to open the attachment from Email, it works. Having iBooks open gives this problem.
