Disco user

hi,
i want to upgrade discoverer from 4i to 10g. How can find the existing owner / user name ?
i am on 11.5.10.
I tried to find disco_us from dba_users, but it is not present.
thx.
sunil

Now i have another problem. I have TWO 11.5.10 instance running on single host.
I have upgrade the first one to Discoverer to 10g.
Before i upgrade the second one, how can i change the Default port number of viewer ? ie., 7778Why would you need to change the port number? If you already have installed Discoverer 10g then you can use it to access multiple instances (instead of having two separate Discoverer ORACLE_HOMEs -- Which I would not recommend to be installed on a single server with two 11i instances!).

  • Managing Disco Users and reports

    Hi,
I am finding it very difficult to manage the increasing discoverer users and reports.
I need to develop a tool or process to report, manage Discoverer active users and reporting for license compliance.
How to review user reports for possible deletion/preservation and final deletion of a user database logon?
How to delete a list of users?
How to preserve any shared reports that are actually used.?
How to clean up and delete their unused reports?
How to report: all active in a year (in last 6 months rolling), top 50, inactive?
any suggestions on how to get started with this?

    Marcelo,
You can manager users using EUSM (executable) found on the oid/ovd installation. Global/local role has to be created on the database side. All EUS mapping can be done on the OID or OVD side using "eusm". There is a metalink note that gives lots of examples on this. Or you can also use enterprise manager grid control that lets you do the same.
As or OVD vs. OID, I am not aware of any major limitations. just operational limitations. Since OID is a ldap server by itself, you can do a lot of tracing/auditing yourself instead of relying on other LDAP admins (unless you manage other ldap servers also). We are currently implementing oid 11.1.1.2 for EUS and I know of my previous employer who is in the middle of implementing OVD 11g (with sun one directory).

  • You do not have access to any End User Layer tables

    Hello Guru's!
I'm having an issue with connecting/using EULs on Disco 10g - I have already installed 10g Admin and configured 2 EULs and also imported the sample data - they are all owned by DISCO user -
When I connect to http://discoserver:7778/discoverer/viewer, I get a connection screen - no connections are listed, so I click create connection - I give it a name, put in disco as my user, put my password in, put db_connect_string into the appropriate field, where db_connect_string is my actual connect string - and it gives me this error:
    Error
    Authentication Failed.
(You do not have access to any End User Layer tables)
I have access to these, as I'm the EUL owner - I've also tried this tho with other users that I have granted access to in the admin too (I've even granted access to these EULs to public - still no luck) - should I be using the db user and password or are there other places in 10g that I set up disco users?
If I should be using the db user and pass, why won't it see my EULs?

Hopefully CupJr got his answer as it's been over 2 years!
However, if you're having the same problem ...
    1. is this an Apps EUL and you're connecting as a database user (ie: the owner of the EUL)?
    2. have you set the gateway connection info correctly (again if an Apps EUL)? - found at: Tools -> Options -> Connection.

  • OWB - making cubes / dimensions available for Disco OLAP

** Posted on the OWB forum initially but no replies **
Hi, can someone explain (or tell where I can find documentation on) deploying cubes and dimensions for viewing in Disco Plus OLAP ?
I have already derived other unrelated tables/views to business areas and have setup the security on those for Disco with no problem.
The cubes and dims are defined as ROLAP and there is data in the underlying tables. I have granted SELECT access on the underlying tables to the required users. The dims and cubes have been deployed with the "Deploy All" setting
If I log on as the eul owner into Disco Plus OLAP I can see the dims, cubes, measures and data with no problem, however if I log on with one of the other users I can log on ok (so no issues there) but have no objects to select from.
I think the issue is to do with access not being granted to the new users to the relevant OLAP objects but do not know which ones.
    Thanks
    Paul

Sorry folks, I got mixed up with another thread running somewhere else.
With ROLAP, all you should need to do is grant select on all the dimension and cube tables. The metatdata for these tables is owned by OLAPSYS and stored in various tables starting with CWM_XXXX. Assuming your Disco user has been granted the role OLAP_USER (which should happen by default, and you confirmed this in a previous part of this thread) then everything should work.
This might be caused by the CWM catalog not being up to date in terms of all the required metadata. Try connecting as the OLAPSYS user and then execute the following command
    exec CWM2_OLAP_METADATA_REFERESH.MR_REFERESH
Once this has finished you might find that you cannot connect to Discoverer. This will be because the sample ROLAP schema owned by SH gets corrupted during installation and this can cause problems with the OLAP metadata. The only thing to do is to use the OLAP PL/SQL packages to delete the dimensions/cubes owned by SH then re run the command to refresh the metadata catalog - > CWM2_OLAP_METADATA_REFERESH.MR_REFERESH
Security - You need to use the normal database label security with a ROLAP implementation as the AW PERMIT command is not available with ROLAP.

  • Portal User ID in Discoverer

I need to create a condition in Discoverer that uses the Portal User ID value to limit data (homegrown VPD).
Can anyone provide code that Discoverer can run to identify the SSO Portal user id? The Disco USER function returns the eul login userid (and i need the sso/portal userid) I searched the forum and found a couple of thoughts. I tried to create a function that returns:
    v_user := portal.wwctx_api.get_user;
    or
    v_user := portal.wwsec_api.id(upper(p_user_name));
but the function (in the eul schema) return the error: Error(246,13): PLS-00201: identifier 'PORTAL.WWSEC_API' must be declared.
I suppose 'real' VPD will get configured eventually (bigger fish), this is a short-term solution.
    thanks

    Hello there,
I'am facing a quite similar challenge here but I am looking for another solution:
We'd like to pass a parameter from Discoverer via the Application Server down to the database WITHOUT using SSO as it is not useful for us.
We start the Discoverer from our own portal via URL-Parameters and it would be nice if we could just add a certain, user correlated, parameter to set up our vpd.
Are there any possibilities to do that or does it only works with SSO?

  • Discoverer Desktop Connections Fails With Invalid Username/Pass in r12

    Hi all;
I have problem. I can login Discoverer Administrator from my localmachine and i can see what ppl did it there.. But when i try to login Discoverer Desktop from my localmachine its gives me Invalid Username/Pass. error.
I even cant login my system from browser :
http://xx.com:7778/discoverer/plus << pages comes and i fill in the blanks area like:
    Connect to : Oracle Application
    Username: sysadmin
    pass: ***
    Database: VIS
I found some document from forums. Whihc is :
Discoverer Is Unable to Connect to Oracle Applications database: invalid username/password      Doc ID: Note:467919.1
Discoverer 10g (10.1.2) Connectons To Oracle E-Business Suite 12 Fails With 'Invalid Username/Password'      Doc ID: Note:443661.1
But before i apply those patch i want to take advice from you. Coz i can login Discoverer Administrator and can use it but cant login Discoverer Desktop...its kind of wierd... i already checked what i have done in installtion and its all seems correct.
    Any idea;
    Regards
    Helios

Discoverer supports two kinds of connections - database schema connections and apps connections. For Disco Admin, you login using a database schema, which, as you stated, works. For Disco User you login using an Apps user account (for which there is a no equivalent database scherma). To enable such a connection, you need to check the "oracle applications user" check box on the 10g Disco login screen. Also, under Tools --> Options, in the Connection tab, make sure that "connect to both standard and applications EULs" radio button is selected.

  • Changes are not reflecting in the discoverer workbook

    Hi ,
I have a report created with user Disco(Disco.Report_name).Now I need to add a column to it and i have done that with other user Discodev but when I save it the changes are not reflected on Disco(Disco.Report_name) rather it is being saved with user Discodev(*Discodev.Report_name*) .
The User wants that the changes should be reflected on Disco.Report_name (I can't use the credentials of Disco to do this as it is also a user) .
    Appreciate your help !!
    Discoverer Version 4i
    Thanks ,
    Vijay

    Hi West,
    Thanks for the reply.
I want to get clarified one thing, Is there any option where DISCO user can give Privileges to DISCODEV to make the changes,as the DISCO user is not a common user I have a problem in making the changes.
    Thanks,

  • Running Discoverer reports into portal using SSO portal login - help

    Hi,
I am trying to run disco reports into oracle portal using discoverer portlet providers -list of worksheet. What I want to achieve is as follows
    1) login to portal using SSO userid /pwd - Done
    2) Enable discoverer for SSO - Done
*3) Use discoverer list of worksheets to show reports into portal but want to filter the list of worksheet to currently logged in portal user. This so that users looged in only sees the reports to which they have access in discoverer - Need Help*
*4) Once user runs this report then I want to filter the discoverer data based on users login or portal group - Help*
Can someone please help with issue no 3/4 urgently.
    Mant thanks
    Ganesh

    Hi Michael,
Assuming I have created the private connections using CAPI I still have my doubts as follows
Do I have to then login as each portal user and add the list of worksheet portlet for each user and selecting
"check the box called Display a different list of worksheets by allowing users to customize database connection and then check Show a default list of worksheets using connection, changing the connection to user's connection."
Considering we have 500+ users this will be huge cumbersom task for me.
Also when I tried to do this before loggin as each portal user when I logged in as second portal user I could see the list of worksheet portalet added by the first user which means I have to edit it but even that was not possible because it would not let me edit as only the page own whi created the portlet was allowed to edit (that is the first user)
    OR
Do you have to give portal user permission to edit the page so that they can log on themselve to add the list of worksheet portlet on the page by selecting their private connection and selecting
"check the box called Display a different list of worksheets by allowing users to customize database connection and then check Show a default list of worksheets using connection, changing the connection to user's connection."
Finally I know someone has made it work using URL links and it works as follows
    1) Map the portal and disco user into a table
    2) Create disco private connections
    3) when portal user loggs in and click on "Show my discoverer report" it then runs a PL/SQL package which in turn identifies the private connection details and creates a URL out of it as follows
    [http://portal.ccm.ac.uk/discoverer/app/partialConnect?password=IRTIMUDV123_=qplus=VDUMITRI=browser_selected=connect=RELATIONAL=QPRIS=viewer]
clicking on this link open discoverer with private list of workbook/worksheet.
Please advise which way should I follow.
    Thanks
    Ganesh

  • I can't execute oracle functions with c#.  i'm using oracle 9i version.

i have a problem trying to execute an oracle function with c#.net. The Oracle version i'm using is Oracle 9i.
This is the function definition: (it's defined and working right because i have tryed it with SQLWorksheet)
CREATE OR REPLACE Function NRegistros return integer is
    Numero integer(4);
    begin
    select count(*) into Numero from singles;
    return Numero;
    END NRegistros;
But with c#.Net i can't acces it because i get an error: "this is not a procedure or is not defined". And i think the code is right. In fact in the same code you can see that i'm using an stored procedure and i have not problems. But with the function i have problems. Is it possible that "OracleClient" can't work with Oracle9i functions??. This is the code:
    OracleParameter Parametro = new OracleParameter("Name", OracleType.VarChar,10);
    OracleParameter ParametroFuncion = new OracleParameter("Retorno", OracleType.Int32, 4);
    Parametro.Direction = ParameterDirection.Output;

  • Oracle Apps EUL Scheduling Trouble

    Hi All,
    Here is my problem:
I can go through all of the steps of setting-up scheduling in an Oracle Apps Disco environment, but here is the result:
-No new table is created when the scheduled workbook has finished (if it has)
-No visible sign that the workbook was actually scheduled (just no exception either).
-but Packages are in the scheduling schema
-I did set-up a user to be able to schedule workbooks with the designated scheduling schema.
    Here is my configuration:
    OracleBI Discoverer 10g (10.1.2.3)
Oracle Business Intelligence Discoverer Plus 10g (10.1.2.55.26)
    Discoverer Model - 10.1.2.55.26
    Discoverer Server - 10.1.2.55.26
    End User Layer - 5.1.1.0.0.0
End User Layer Library - 10.1.2.55.26
    Oracle Database 10g Enterprise Edition Release 10.2.0.4.0 - 64bi
    Here is what we did:
Our dba logged in as system and ran the batchusr_app.sql script.
For better or worse, the packages that were created during this script were created in the system schema and not in our designated scheduling schema.
For better or worse, I can schedule workbooks when system is chosen as the scheduled workbook schema (I tested this even though it is totally unacceptable).
To correct this problem, I just identified the portion of the batchusr_app.sql script which has the DDL and ran this with the designated scheduling schema. I also dropped the packages that were erroneously created in the wrong schema.
I made sure that the following grants were granted to the scheduling schema:
    CREATE PROCEDURE
    CREATE SESSION
    CREATE TABLE
    CREATE VIEW
    EXECUTE ANY PROCEDURE
    SELECT ANY TABLE
I made sure that all of the grants at the end of the batchusr_app.sql script were done and with the appropriate database user.
Any suggestions? My next step is to submit an SR.
    Thanks,
    Patrick

    Hi Kranthi,
    Thank you for your help.
Let me clarify. In the Disco Admin tool using Tools/Privileges, I did select the Scheduled Workbooks tab and I selected an ebs user/database user who will own the scheduling tables (and the other options).
In my first scenario, I did assign the System database user as the owner of the scheduling tables (this is totally bad and totally unacceptable in a non-test, non-development environment) and I am able to schedule my workbooks.
In my second scenario, I correct the set-up of my scheduling (run the batchusr_app.sql segments that were not properly run):
    - Dropped the packages that were not correctly created in the scheduling schema owner.
    - Made sure the scheduling schema owner had the grants required: CREATE PROCEDURE, CREATE SESSION, CREATE TABLE, CREATE VIEW, EXECUTE ANY PROCEDURE, SELECT ANY TABLE and made sure the scheduling schema owner had the SELECT privilege on the view, V_$PARAMETER
    - Ran the DDL associated with creating the three scheduling packages in the correct scheduling schema database user. I removed all the bind variables and replaced them with literals (e.g. &FNDNAME with APPS).
    - Logging in as the EUL owner, EUL_US, I run the portion of the script which performs the "grant select, insert, update, delete to all of the tables in the EUL schema.
We have not performed the access privileges which you have identified in your document. We are using OID to synchronize are Disco Users with Apps (our last DBA set this up and I have assumed this was configured right). Are you saying that these are required to properly schedule workbooks (we have had our user community using Disco in an EBS environment for some time now)?

  • MORE THAN 1 OF THE DETAIL FOLDERS USES NON-AGGREGATED ITEMS

What does this join configuration message mean? I am a user not an administrator but I notice that sometimes I get this message when I am trying to create reports in Discoverer.
Currently I have a report that is using a control table and a detail table. I need to link to another table (not a detail table). The join did not exist but I was able to take a transaction and join to the table with sql. I asked that this join be created in Discoverer so I can link to the other table in the report and it was created, but when I go to pull in the field I need I get this message:
Join configuration cannot be resolved. Reason: more than 1 of the detail folders uses non-aggregated items.
Can this be resolved and if so how? We seem to get this message fairly often.

I am always leery of disabling fan traps, as it can cause errors with aggregation (and by errors, I mean including values multiple times). Make sure you check the documentation (the Disco user guide) for an explanation of fan traps, and the types of problems that can occur, and the check the results of your queries (or have the data owners do it) to make sure the results are valid.
I use the fan trap warning as an indication that there is something amiss in the BA, and then try to find the problem there. Sometimes the solution is changing a join (you can check the box that states there is a 1 to 1 relationship and that will also eliminate the fan traps), other times it is creating a view or custom/complex folder to specify how the data is to be joined. Rarely is the only solution to disable fan traps (and while I am on my soapbox, I'll add that I use it as a last resort).
Sometimes removing fan traps is the correct solution, but you need to test your reports to make certain the results are valid.

  • Discoverer Reports

    Hi Guys
I wonder if you could help.... I am not a disco expert !!!! I work on oracle apps....
My last implementation when implementing new orgs in a multi org set up..... we created a disco user responsibilty for the new org (XXX_DISCO_USER). This responsibility would let the user login to Disco Viewer or PLus........ at this point the Disco Administrator would assign the relavant reports..
The implementation that i am currently working on..... create a responsibility in oracle apps for every reoprt..... is this normal ?... what is best practice ? This way seems to very time cosuming and complicated when implementing new orgs as we have to create X amount of new responsibilities all the time ?
    Any help would be great.
    Bal

    Hi,
Generally, you would create a Discoverer responsibility for each organisation. Those responsibilities would then run the same reports but the security in the reports would ensure that only the data for single organisation would be displayed.
The security is normally handled in the views (though you can build this into the EUL or use VPD). So the view contains a condition that selects data for the organisation. Normally the responsibility has the organisation assigned using a system profile. Different Oracle applications modules handle the security in different ways and use different system profiles. The seed business intelligence views have the organisation security built into the views.

  • Discoverer and Reports

    Hello,
we are evaluating, how we could generate well formated standard reports for printing on standard paper-size. Till now we have built Ad-Hoc Reports with Discoverer Desktop. What would you suggest to generate standard reports based on the ad-hoc-reports built in Discoverer Desktop?
    Thanks
    Tobias

Boy ... that's an open question.
One thing that I try to setup and enforce at client sites I work at, is to create a Disco User (ie: if using Apps, then an apps user, if using non-apps, then a db user) with a name such as CORP.
Then all reports that will be the 'corp' standard are written using this account. So, in your case, you decide on a corporate standard (ie: pretty title, great logo, column heading colors, exception colors, totals, etc.), and get the owner of your 'ad-hoc' report(s) to share it with CORP. Then CORP checks the validity of the code, adheres to the standards set up and then shares the report NOT WITH USERS, but with responsibilities (in apps) or roles (in database users).
This means that you add users to groups and then when the corp reports are shared with the various groups, you don't have to move usernames in and out of the sharing screen, etc. (and when someone leaves the company, you're not stuck with someone not there anymore once their account's killed, etc.).
Then, as a company, you stand up on a soap box and state that any report that's not a CORP report will not be supported (as you did check the validity of the code when you 'corp'orized it).
This works pretty well and takes time, but gets sites on the right track IMHO.
Finally, running those reports - can do in the scheduler, or using the MS DOS (plus bat files, etc.) to run automatically and post output in html format to a dashboard, etc. - or go whole hog and set up Portals, BIS, etc. and go from there.

  • How to find Responsibility through which the user has logged in to Disco.

    Hi All,
I have got a requirement to create a "Usage Report Summary by Responsibility" for all Oracle user having an Access to Oracle Disco Viewer.
In the report, I need to show the list of Oracle Users and the Responsibilities through which an User has logged in to Disco Viewer.
Kindly help me in finding the corresponding Disco tables to full-fill this requirement.
    Available Information/queries in my Hand:
    1. Query to find the list of Workbook and its shared Responsibilities
    2. Query to find number of times an Oracle Disco Report has been run.
    Thanks a ton in Advance
    Arun

    Hi Arun
The first place to look is to try running one of the pre-built workbooks created by Oracle for this purpose.
I see you are working in Apps mode. Therefore, you'll need to run both of these scripts when logged in as the owner of the EUL:
    1. EUL5.SQL
    2. EUL5_APPS.SQL
You will find both scripts in the $ORACLE_HOME/Discoverer/Util folder where your Discoverer Administrator tool is located.
Next, you will need to log into the Administrator tool and import this EEX file: EUL5.EEX
You will find the EEX file located in $ORACLE_HOME/Discoverer, again on the PC where Discoverer Administrator tool is located.
After you have imported the EUL, log into Desktop or Plus and open up the EUL5 workbook that you will now see in the list and work through the various worksheets. You should find one or two that will give you what you want.
Let us know how you get on
    Best wishes
    Michael
