Discoverer - Condition on linked table causes error
When I apply a condition (Cust_ID = 'P6872') on a linked table all of the records are returned...however, some of the data from the linked table is blank. The condition appears to work but not on all of the records. Any ideas why this might happen?
Thanks for taking the time to read this....

The best soultion would probably be to create a database function and register it through Discoverer Administration edition. You can then call the funciton in your condition, to replace the need for a sub-query

Applying different condition in page process causes error in process source
hi -- I have a before header page process that essentially executes a custom fetch in order to populate a form from a report. The condition was previously
REQUEST != Expression1. This worked -- the form was populated when it was supposed to be (not on CREATE) but I need to change the condition to:
DECLARE
ind BOOLEAN;
BEGIN
if (:REQUEST not in ('CREATE','LOGOUT') or
(:REQUEST = 'LOGOUT' and :P122_DATATYPE_ID is NULL))
then
ind := TRUE;
else
ind := FALSE;
end if;
return (ind);
end;
I'm doing this as PL/SQL function body returning Boolean; I've tried other types also, they all result in the same problem:
When I try to apply the changes, they are not accepted. I get the error:
ORA-06550: line 8, column 7: PL/SQL: ORA-00903: invalid table name ORA-06550: line 3, column 2: PL/SQL: SQL Statement ignored
I also got this error when my condition was a 1-line PL/SQL Expression; I'm pretty sure the error isn't referring to the condition... though when I change
the condition back to REQUEST != Expression 1, I can apply the changes.
The source is:
BEGIN
SELECT datatype_name, datatype_common_name, physical_quantity_name,
unit_id, allowable_intervals, agen_id, cmmnt
INTO :P122_datatype_name, :P122_datatype_common_name,
:P122_physical_quantity_name, :P122_unit_id,
:P122_allowable_intervals, :P122_agen_id, :P122_cmmnt
FROM &TABLE_NAME.@&DB_NAME.
WHERE datatype_id = :P122_datatype_id;
/* Send explicit message to user if this unusual case occurs. */
EXCEPTION
WHEN no_data_found THEN
raise_application_error (-20001, 'No row with datatype_id = '||:P122_DATATYPE_ID||'. Row appears to have been deleted by someone else.');
END;
I can't for the life of me figure out what the problem is. Can anyone out there spot it?
Thanks,
Carolhi Scott -- Actually, the custom fetch process does work. It's been working for a long time. The primary key value is set from
the edit link on the report page, and fetch loads the data into the form. (DB_NAME and TABLE_NAME are set in eariler events.) I'm using the same process (with different page items, of course) on several report/form pages in the application. Actual data manipulation (insert, update, delete) won't work this way, but selects do.
But I can't apply changes to the condition.
I created this process in APEX 3.1, and it's running fine in APEX 3.2.1. But could the version have something to do w/ not being able to
apply the changes to the condition? Seems unlikely...

SQL Server 2k - Pulling from 2 fact tables causes error
Trying to create a simple RPD as follows:
1 Dimension with Key Fund_ID
2 Fact tables, each with a Key Fund_ID
Created a Physical Layer, connecting Dimension to each Facts based off Fund_ID (One to Many)
Business Model Layer, connected Dimension to each Fact using complex join.
In Answers, the following is true:
Querying Dim and Fact Table A returns Data
Querying Dim and Fact Table B returns Data
Querying Dim AND Fact Table A, AND Fact Table B returns the following error message:
State: HY000. Code: 10058. [NQODBC] [SQL_STATE: HY000] [nQSError: 10058] A general error has occurred. [nQSError: 15018] Incorrectly defined logical table source (for fact table A) does not contain mapping for [table B]. (HY000)
It appears to be complaining that it cannot map the fact tables to each other. I tried mapping the two fact tables together (even though that doesn't make DW sense), and the RPD won't validate.
I'm wondering if this is a bug connecting to SQL Server. We do the majority of our RPD development against ORACLE, and this is our first attempt at using SQL Server as a source.
Does anyone have any suggestions on this?
thanksI doubt it very much its DB specific, the error is from the BI Server ([nQSError: 15018]) rather than SS.
Have you got a dimension hierarchy ? Are your content levels set for all logical tables, do you have 2 logical facts or 1 combined logical fact ? What do your Logical Table sources look like (ie how many per logical table, conent levels ?joins within the LTS?)
I would guess the problem lies in your BMM layer. But should check, is the conformed dimension joined to both fact tables in the physical layer or have your aliased it ? -

billuI don't think there is any way to modify your table definition to accommodate the (apparent) fact that missing values generate nothing in the file you want to load.
It seems that you are saying that the format of the file is not actually fixed in any way, that is has some, but not all values, and that mising values are just skipped.
Assuming for a moment that the fields are delimited bt a pipe symbol (|) then it seems to me that you have this situation :
Defined file format:
ID|name|age|addresswhich would imply the file should look like:
123|John|42|123 MainSt.
456|Fred|39|45 Pine St.but sometimes you get:
12345|27|12 Elm St.If this is the case, there is no possible way that the file can be reliably parsed since there is no consistnet format. If field values could be missing, you need to get whoever generates the file to do something more like:
12345||27|12 Elm St.That is, put in the field delimiters even if there is no value for the field.

Simple Query in Oracle Linked Table in MS Access causes full table scan.
I am running a very simple query in MS ACCESS to a linked Oracle table as follows:
Select *
From EXPRESS_SERVICE_EVENTS --(the linked table name refers to EXPRESS.SERVICE_EVENTS)
Where performed > MyDate()
or
Select *
From EXPRESS_SERVICE_EVENTS --(the linked table name refers to EXPRESS.SERVICE_EVENTS)
Where performed > [Forms]![MyForm]![Date1]
We have over 50 machines and this query runs fine on over half of these, using an Oracle Index on the "performed" field. Running exactly the same thing on the other machines causes a full table scan, therefore ignoring the Index (all machines access the same Access DB).
Strangely, if we write the query as follows:
Select *
From EXPRESS_SERVICE_EVENTS
Where performed > #09/04/2009 08:00#
it works fast everywhere!
Any help on this 'phenominon' would be appreciated.
Things we've done:
Checked regional settings, ODBC driver settings, MS Access settings (as in Tools->Options), we have the latest XP and Office service packs, and re-linked all Access Tables on both the slow and fast machines independantly).Primarily, thanks gdarling for your reply. This solved our problem.
Just a small note to those who may be using this thread.
Although this might not be the reason, my PC had Oracle 9iR2 installed with Administratiev Tools, where user machines had the same thing installed but using Runtime Installation. For some reason, my PC did not have 'bind date' etc. as an option in the workarounds, but user machines did have this workaround option. Strangely, although I did not have the option, my (ODBC) query was running as expected, but user queries were not.
When we set the workaround checkbox accordingly, the queries then run as expected (fast).
Once again,
Thanks -
Oracle 11gr2 ODBC - error updating linked table (Ora 01722 and 01461)
Good day folks,
My shop has just moved to 11gR2 client and server. We were previously using 11gR1 with no issues (and before that, 10, 9, 8, etc). After moving from 11r1 to 11r2, we began getting errors from some of our MS Access ODBC applications with linked Oracle tables. The error would occur when executing an UPDATE statement that had a table join in it. Here is a simple example:
UPDATE TableX SET TableX.Fieldx = “valuex” WHERE TableX.Fieldx = TableZZZ.Fieldx AND TableZZZ.fieldzzz is not null
Currently, after moving to 11r2 client, an update query like the one above will error out in one of the following ways:
- odbc -- update on a linked table failed - Ora 01722 invalid number
- ORA-01461: can bind a LONG value only for insert into a LONG column
- Or it will say that the records were not updated because they are locked.
In some cases, I have noticed some records being updated that were not supposed to be updated.. records that the where clause was meant to exclude. That is very unsettling.
I understand that perhaps an update statement shouldn’t be joining table and perhaps it should be done over a couple calls, but the reality is – this code is out there in abundance and if there is a solution that doesn’t amount to my changing all this code or reverting to 11gR1, I would love to find it.
Since the query runs fine using SQL Plus and also runs fine if I run it against a local table in Access rather than a linked Oracle table – I figured the issue was possibly with the Oracle 11r2 ODBC driver. So, I switched the Oracle ODBC driver (sqora32.dll version 11.2.0.1 with version 11.1.0.7), and the problem went away.
I believe this verifies the issue resides with Oracle ODBC version 11.2.0.1. Can anyone help? I'm assuming it's not particularly wise to simply swap sqora32.dll files on all my clients machines, so I am searching for an actual solution here instead.
I also did performed ODBC tracing to see what Access is handing to the Oracle ODBC driver. I then used database or SQLNet tracing to see what the ODBC driver was handing off to SQLNet/database.
The results are in the following post:
Thanks guys!!SQLNET TRACE

ORA-12560: TNS: protocol adapter error while linking tables in Access
One of my app dev is encountering an interesting error message while linking Oracle tables from Access. I am not able to able to reproduce this in my desktop or anywhere else. Details enclosed. Can you guys point me to a solution? Thanks in advance!
ODBC: Oracle Client version 10.2.0.1
Desktop : Win XP ; Access 2003
=>Able to login to the Oracle database sucessfully using sqlplus.
=>Able to create an ODBC datasource to Oracle database.("Test Connection" works fine)
=>But encountering the TNS protocol adpater error while linking the table(Access->File->Get External Data-> Link tables).
=>Not able to link any table in any schema in any Oracle database. Hence this is not a data centric issue.
What did I do?
=> Uninstalled Oracle 8 client and installed Oracle 10 client. No luck. Encountering the same error.
=> Turned on the ODBC trace and reproduced the error. The log is enclosed:

I've read all the posts mentioned (quite a few more) but I couldn't find any suggested solution to the "non-oracle10g"-problem other than using the global db name instead of the sid - which didn't help in our case:
However, in a last desperate attempt to solve the problem on my own before launching another cry-for-help-post I did try running the configuration assistant using the correct password for the SYS user 8-} and - strange but true - it did work :-)
Needless to say: I used the global db name of course, so I can't say what would have happened without it, but I trust your hint was a legitimate one.
Anyway - I gues that error Message concerning a "non-oracle10g database" was slightly misleading in this case.... grrrr.

Linked table to SharePoint2010 causing Access2010 to crash
Hi,
I am using Access 2010 to LINK (not import) to a couple of Sharepoint 2010 lists. I have run into a problem with the Menu based linking method (Extrernal Data > Import & Link > More > SharePoint List), so I have moved to the VBA based TransferSharepointList
method of the Do.Cmd which links a custom View of List into Access fine!
The advantage is that I can link to a specific view of the SP2010 List (called Child) and therefore reduce the number of columns accessible in Access to a manageable number (only 10 vs 250+ originally delivered with the Menu method). However, when I
try to modify the content of any column (write the record) from a DataSheet View of Child (a linked Table object), MS Access crashes.
I don't experience this problem with another SP2010 List linked using the TransferSharepointList method of the Do.Cmd. This second list (called Parent) has < 200 columns. I need to Link in order to perform maintenance on the lists in SharePoint
from Access.
Any idea why Access is crashing? I will appreciate any guidance!
Thanks,
JackHi,
I noticed that you had posted the question in MSDN forum. Could tell me the result about testing?
According to your description, your VBA code worked fine to import the Sharepoint list less than 200 columns.
I recommend you create a new SharePoint list include the random 10 of the 250 columns and import them again.
If it works fine, I suppose that the issue may be caused by the Access design.
Note Access imports only the first 256 columns, since it supports only 256 fields in a table. To avoid this problem, create a view and add to it only the columns that you want, ensuring that the total number of columns doesn't exceed 256.
If it still does not work well. I recommend you check the columns in the source list with the below link:
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/access-help/import-from-or-link-data-to-a-sharepoint-list-HA010341758.aspx
I hope it's helps

"Invalid argument" error when attempting to use Linked Table Manager
I am trying to import a text file into a linked table in Access (the linked table resides in SQL Server). I run through the import wizard which always ends with an 'Invalid Argument' error and claims the import was unsuccessful but when I query the table
all the data has been imported. How do I get this error to stop?
Any suggestion will be appreciatedSounds like something is not hooked up right, or setup right. Can you do a Compact and Repair and try again?

C & R is really done to defragment a DB, but it can 'fix' other things as well.
Also, see this.

Condition Table ganeration Error.
Hi All,
The system allows me to create the condition table, but when I try to generate it, I get the error&Information below: (but I could generate table Z663)
Error: Activation was interrupted.
Information: Reports and screens for table A653 marked for generation.
Could you please help in this problem.
Thanks in Advance,
Regards,
Kalam A.Thank you for the confirmation.
I discovered this while trying to create a single, large table for my condition type/access sequence using the Hierarchy Pricing technique so that I would have more field combination options available to me without having to create them all on individual tables that have to be sequenced correctly. My first thought when I got the error was that it is unfortunate that SAP has restricted us to 16 key fields, but that is probably an attempt to save us from ourselves. It was my intention to create a single table with 22 fields!
I am now working on a series of Hierarchy/optimized tables in my condition type/access sequence which is forcing me into the adoption of some "best practices" such as pricing at the sold-to level, not the ship-to level. So I guess it is all for the best. I will just have to be a better pricing designer than I wanted to be. -

Crystal report XI error while Linking tables
We have just purchased Crystal Report XI license copy but as we going to create new report there is problem in linking tables
i.e while pressing LINK tab after selecting ODBC databse name application going shut down. Please suggest. Thanks in advanceI would make verify the database within Crystal report and then re publish it again. It seems it doesn't get the connection to the db.
Have you refreshed the database within Crystal Reports?
As Graham said, does it open in Crystal Viewer?
another thing would be to add the DSN (System DSN) onto your client machine as well. Maybe it is not getting a right connection.
Try it and let us know.
Kind Regards

Timeout causes error 500 (internal server error)
Hello,
I am running Weblogic server 8.1.
Running a web application works ok initially, but -
After initially viewing any page, if no user activity happens for about 30 minutes, and then user clicks any link, the following error is shown:
Error 500--Internal Server Error
From RFC 2068 Hypertext Transfer Protocol -- HTTP/1.1:
10.5.1 500 Internal Server Error
The server encountered an unexpected condition which prevented it from fulfilling the request.
My guess is there is some timeout that is causing this.
I searched the code, server settings and documentation for any kind of "timeout" value.
No values were found in the code or server settings.
My web.xml or weblogic.xml did not have any entries for timeout.
I added a value for "session-timeout" in web.xml, which I made 65 minutes in web.xml, but still no change.
Still times out in 30 minutes.
Does anyone know what the issue could be?
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance for your help.

Thanks,
I looked but there is no Exception / error seen in the logs.
I looked at mydomain.log, myserver.log, access.log and my own application logs.
None of them show an error.
The only error seen is by the user on the browser (after 30 minutes idle time), which I have mentioned earlier... -
More than one join condition for 2 tables in obiee
Hello,
I am using obiee 11g.
There are 2 tables tableA and tableB where the join condition is like (tableA.col1=tableB.col1) or (tableA.col1 is null and tableB.col1 is null)
where should i do these type of joins.
I tried putting in physcial layer->f(x) but giving error like here only columns an d opertaors are allowed.
Thanksok here it goes.
I have a tableA with columns col1(pk),col2 and other columns
I have tableB with columns col1(pk),col2..Only these 2 columns.
Now distinct tableA.col2 values are put in tableB.col2. For those distinct values i have put the tableB.col1 values.
Now tableA.col2 as well as tableB.col2 can be null beacuse there may be null values in tableA.col2.
Now in tableB i have added one more row which has col1 as value and col2 as null.
Now when in physical layer when i do tableA.col2=tableB.col2 i dont get the null values.
What i want is whenever the tableA.col2 and tableB.col2 is null then take tableB.col1 for those vales.
So when i query i do
select * from tableA,tableB where
((tableA.col2=tableB.col2) or (tableA.col2 is null and tableB.col2 is null))
What i want is when i do a join i should be able to give this OR condition in rpd thats it.
because when i do in where clause of content tab it goes like a AND condition and not OR.
Thanks

Linking Tables to Oracle Views
I am not able to see the PKs in MS-ACCESS after creating a linked table to a view within Oracle. The views were created using Select * from the base table which is a materialized view. No WHERE clause in the view.
Also, why do I get an error when creating a linked table to a materialized view in Oracle. I am getting the following error when creating the linked table:
"Invalid filed definition M_ROW$$ in definition of index or relationship.
Thanks,
Todd Schaberg
[email protected]This is a known problem. We're trying to work with the materialized views folks to get this resolved.
As a workaround, you can create a view of the materialized view and link to that.
