Disk Error event ID 153

Receiving disk error event ID 153 in Server 2012 - The IO operation at logical block address 0x0 for Disk 1 was retried. Does this error mean something is wrong with the hard drives?

Possibly.  Run chkdisk to see if it turns up something.

  • Quorum/Witness Disk Offline every 15 minutes error - Event ID 1069 - Event ID 1558

    2 node active passive, 2008 failover cluster.  I keep getting the following error events:
    The cluster service detected a problem with the witness resource. The witness resource will be failed over to another node within the cluster in an attempt to reestablish access to cluster configuration data. Event ID 1558
    Cluster resource 'Cluster Disk 1' in clustered service or application 'Cluster Group' failed. Event ID 1069
    However my quorum disk is online from what I can see.   One thing I did notice is, the Quorum disk no longer has any files in it. It is just a empty drive.
    I also noticed these errors are being entered every 15 minutes exactly.
    I monitored the Quorum disk and it is going offline momentarily every 15 minutes.
    Experts Exchange Posts indicate this is known issue and waiting for microsoft to deliver SP2?  Really?
    http://www.experts-exchange.com/OS/Microsoft_Operating_Systems/Server/Windows_Server_2008/Q_24751092.html
    Any thoughts

    support.microsoft.com/kb/2750820 - This does not resolved your issue because it applies only to the Quorum model Node and File share majority.
    The issue is because of the cluster configuration corruption and cluster I checking after every 15 minute and is seeing the cluster quorum disk in failed state (actually it is not failed) but is not able to update the current state of the quorum disk.
    Check for below logs in the cluster logs:
    00000d84.00000f58::2014/11/18-19:04:06.805 INFO  [QUORUM] Node 1: Witness Failed Gum Handler [QUORUM] Node 1
    00000d84.00000f58::2014/11/18-19:04:06.805 INFO  [QUORUM] Node 1: witness attach failed. next restart will happen at 2014/11/18-13:19:06.797
    00000d84.00000ef8::2014/11/18-19:04:06.805 INFO  [QUORUM] Node 1: quorum is not owned by anyone
    Try reforming the cluster, it will resolve the issue.
    Change the quorum model to Node majority and back to node and disk majority.
    Stop cluster service on all the nodes and then start them back when it is stopped on all the nodes.
    Thanks

  • Disk error?

    Ok. So I had a high end Macbook Pro 15" Early 2011 that came with Lion and I had upgraded to Mountain Lion. I started having 5 min boot ups a(and still do)
    I tried everything, almost, CCleaner, clear start up items, disk utility said disk was fine, etc.
    Today I decided to boot in Verbose. It got just past where it checks your usb itouch and then i saw so many "failed" and "error"
    Heres the code. I wasn't really sure where the boot up ended, so sorrry.
    Sorry its such a long code! Sorry. A lot of errors start at 8:00 PM.
    Please tell me 1. what is wrong with the disk (or whatever) and 2. what can i do for it?

  • Disk error - but which physical drive is it ?

    Hi - I'm occasionally seeing in Sever Manager > Events > ID 153 - "The IO operation at logical block address 10028 for
    Disk 6 was retried"
    I have a boot-drive (obviously), and a Storage Space consisting of 4 drives setup as a 2-way mirror
    In CompMgmt, I can (only) see:
    Disk4 - System Reserved & (C:)
    Disk5 - Storage Space (D:)
    How can I find out which physical drive is Drive 6 ?
    -Tom

    Hi Luc - this is what I've got:
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\disk\Enum]
    "0"="SCSI\\Disk&Ven_WDC&Prod_WD10EACS-65D6B0\\4&314aa983&0&000000"
    "1"="SCSI\\Disk&Ven_WDC&Prod_WD10EACS-65D6B0\\4&314aa983&0&010000"
    "2"="SCSI\\Disk&Ven_WDC&Prod_WD10EACS-65D6B0\\4&314aa983&0&020000"

    "Count"=dword:00000006
    "NextInstance"=dword:00000006
    Looking at the details of Event 153 (there were 40 of them all within 1 minute), it actually shows : "\Device\Harddisk6\DR8"
    I've Google'd this and (some) hits point to it possibly being a USB device - perhaps a USB stick ?
    (My drives are all SATA, and hang off an IBM BR10i SAS controller)
    Anyway, there have been no further errors

  • No disk error in Premiere Elements 12 - Smartsound plug-in?

    I have a fresh install of Premiere Elements 12 (with 12.1 update) on a new computer and receive the error "There is no disk in the drive. Please insert a disk into drive E:" whenever the program is opened or closed. I can bypass this message by repeatedly clicking "cancel". Windows application logs in event viewer lists a corresponding error message "Activation context generation failed for C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Premiere Elements 12\Plug-ins\Common\SmartSoundAdobePlugin64.prm". I confirmed that this file does not exist.
    A forum search indicates that installing Smartsound resolves this no-disk error for PrE 11 and earlier but that Smartsound is no longer a feature in PrE 12:
    Re: No Disk Error for Adobe Premiere Elements 12
    But another other user reported that the no-disk problem went away in PrE 12 after installing Smartsound:
    Re: "No Disk" Error (premiere elements 12)
    And my event viewer error message indicates that PrE 12 is looking for a Smartsound plug-in which was not included in the installation. (PrE 12 was installed via Dell Digital Delivery and did not include an installation disk.)
    So why is PrE 12 looking for a Smartsound plug-in if it is no longer a feature? Any suggestions for suppressing the no-disk error other than installing Smartsound?  I'm just getting started in PrE and don't need it right now.
    Thanks,
    Greg

    Thank you for the advice. I tried Han's suggestion of installing Smartsound SonicFire first since it was much quicker than completely reinstalling PrE (which entails many hours of re-downloading on a DSL line for the program & cloud content).
    After installing Smartsound, the "SmartSoundAdobePlugin64.prm" file did appear in the C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Premiere Elements 12\Plug-ins\Common\ folder. However, it did not resolve the "No Disk" error or the application error logged in Event Viewer. The source of that error is listed as "SideBySide" and Event ID is 33. The full text of the message is as follows:
    Activation context generation failed for "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Premiere Elements 12\Plug-ins\Common\SmartSoundAdobePlugin64.prm". Dependent Assembly Microsoft.VC90.MFC,processorArchitecture="amd64",publicKeyToken="1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b",type=" win32",version="9.0.21022.8" could not be found. Please use sxstrace.exe for detailed diagnosis.
    I did a bit of research and this answer suggests that the error is the result of an incompatibility between the installed version of Microsoft Visual C++ and the version used by the program:
    http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-windows_programs/event-id-33-so urce-side-by-side/ef67e34f-07b2-4d52-a807-f9f81a7c32f8?auth=1
    Based on this Microsoft article, it appears that the missing C++ 2008 version 9.0.201022.8 is an IA-64 version while the 9.0.30729.x versions on my machine are x64 versions:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/973552
    This is all way over my head and I may leave well enough alone until I have more time to spare, given that the "no disk" error (which could even be entirely unrelated) is annoying but not crippling.
    FWIW, the machine is a Dell XPS8700, Windows 8.1, 64-bit, and PrE was sold by Dell it, bundled with Photoshop Elements.

  • Server connection: drops and disk errors

    Currently, I'm the only workstation using a Mac Pro (the rest are G5s), and my connection to our art server (running Win 2003) constantly drops, whereas the G5s stay connected just fine. Also, today this same server started giving me code -41 disk error messages; I can't save or re-write anything onto the server, even though there's a good 20GB of storage available.

    John,
    We lost the connection earlier this evening, and even though the lights were all still on on the Router, the only way to regain our connection seemed to be turning the router off and on (we did this at the plug, i'm not sure this is what we're meant to do!).
    Are the events in my event log worrying at all? I'm scared by them!

    Hi,
    This issue may be caused by corrupted files or application conflicts. I recommend you to run "sfc /scannow" at the command prompt to check the system files. In addition, you can perform a clean boot to see if any service is causing the issue.
    If the above cannot solve it, maybe you can find if there is any hotfix for the application or uninstall the application.
    Best regards,
    Susie

  • Error events 31551 and31552 only during the night

    events error 31551 and 31552 started show up for some time every night 00:00 to 08:00 “SQL exception timeout expired... timeout period elapsed prior to completion... “
    Also 16 events warning 2115 showed up in between the 31551-315522.
    At all time we have many warnings 29202,

    No backup runs on SQL db. DBs are backed up by sql on another lun that is backed up by Tivoli tsm.
    No antivirus on Db.
    The SCOM db have been moved 3 weeks ago on from SQL 2k5 to SQL 2008 r2 sp1.
    My SQL admin found out that the SQL is generating lots of i/o (not all on disk, some in memory...) over 1 Tb of data  every night for some time... During the day DW db size is 74062,56 MB
    We moved SQL data and log folders on different  luns, DW on its own lun. We moved the Datawarehouse on another lun, it made no difference.
    The datawarehouse lun has long latency during the night, up to 15 sec.
    No new MP installed in the past 8 months, only few overrides and disables recently
    Our scom setup is 2007r2 cu7, rms on 2k3sp2, ms (acs) 2k3sp2 and ms 2k8sp2, 1 gateway in a dmz on 2k8 sp1 . Setup dated 2008 and 2011, all virtual Esx and approx. 150 agents.
    From what we have read it seems to be related to performance, however we are unable to find root cause of issue.

    Hi,
    You have moved the database to a new SQL server. What is the collation on the new server? Only SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS is supported. Please check free space in the SCOM DB's and transaction log DB.
    Same issue here, please refer to this one:

  • Almost Constant Disk Errors, why?

    I am not sure what is going on, but in the last two weeks, I have had to re-start my MAC Pro 5 times with my Snow Leopard Program disk and use the Utility in that disk to correct disk errors. The problem always is the same "Invalid volume directory count". There are times when my machine locks up for a period of time and I can't do anything with it, and then, it starts working again, and nothing seems to be going on when it locks up (nothing else is running in the background). I also get frequent error code 10810 "The operation can't be completed" messages. I have run Tech Tool, and there are no apparent errors. I have not been able to create these problems, they seem to have a mind of their own. Has anybody else run into this?
    Thank you.

    SMART status of the drive after one of these events may give you more insight into what is happening.
    Hard Drives have redundancy bits in each block and error correction logic, and will also try to re-read bad blocks many, many times in hopes of getting correctable data the next time. This can cause the huge delays you are seeing. These errors will NOT be seen if you do a Disk Utility ( Repair ) or a Tech Tool Repair. These options check ONLY the directory for consistency, and do not read the actual data blocks of your files.
    The test that will demonstrate these errors is a "Surface Scan", which reads every block on the drive (and may take hours to complete). On certain drives with certain bad but not deadly errors, the problem shows itself as the program appearing to stall, seemingly "stuck" on a particular block as it reads it again, and again, and again. Eventually it may get good data and go on to the next block, or may give up on that block and increment the Bad Block counter.
    With this many errors, your best bet at this point may be to backup everything and re-initialize with Zero all Data option. This coaxes the drive to substitute its reserved spare blocks for any found bad in the process.
    If it finishes successfully, your drive has 100 percent good blocks again.
    If it gets more than ten bad blocks, you may get "Initialization Failed". You can try it again, but there is a limit to how much you can trust a disk that is developing so many bad blocks.
    Extended tests done by Google researchers on a huge sample of consumer level "always on" drives used in Google's server farms indicated that having at least one Bad Block occur in use was a strong indicator that the drive was likely to develop more Bad Blocks and fail, as much as 40 percent more quickly than drives with no Bad Blocks.
    Drive temperature was NOT a leading cause of death. They do not generally cycle the power on their drives nor spin them down, so those did not figure in their potential causes of death.

  • Created a movie in IMOVIE and transferred it to dvd but cannot get it to play on my dvd player.  i downloaded the free Burn program since i don't have idvd on my new mac  the dvd comes up disk error or cannot read

    created a movie in IMOVIE and transferred it to dvd but cannot get it to play on my dvd player.  i downloaded the free Burn program since i don't have idvd on my new mac  the dvd comes up disk error or cannot read.  I am using a dvd-r dvd and my dvd player says that it uses this type of dvd.  Any suggestions.  I spoke to an Apple Support person who helped me burn the dvd but it still didn't work...help???

    There's a difference between a data DVD, and a DVD-Video.  I believe you made a data DVD, which can't be played in a video player.  The Burn feature of the Finder can't author a DVD-V, just data discs.
    I assume you made a Project, and put clips from your Event Library into the Project.  But then, how did you output your Project, using the SHARE menu?
    When I pull down iMovie '11s SHARE menu, "iDVD..." is one of the options.  It's the job of iDVD to make the menu that appears when you insert a DVD into your player (that says the title, and chapters, and extras, etc.).  You need software that will made a DVD-V disc.  Lacking that, you might be able to go to Share/Export Movie... or Share/Export using QuickTime... to get your video into a format that software like Roxio's Toast could burn.

  • Disk error on Windows Azure Server

    We have one Server 2012R2 machine within Azure.
    (3) 1TB drives have been added then a Spanned Volume created across all three disks.  We use this disk for Off-Site DFS Replication and a Veeam Backup repository.  On occasion we get a System Event:11 Disk error:  The driver detected a controller
    error on \Device\Harddisk2\DR2.
    Is this something that we should be concerned about?  Not sure how we can get controller errors on a VM.

    Ah so. So I think you can only look at this error. It's correlate with physical disk on virtualization host and you cannot do anything.

  • "No Disk" Error (premiere elements 11)

    I have successfully installed Adobe Premiere Elements 11 on my PC:
         Dell XPS 8300
         Intel Core i7-2600 Quad Core (3.4 GHz, 8MB Cache)
         • 1GB Radeon HD 6450 Graphics
         • 16GB DDR3 1333 RAM
         • 1TB 7,200RPM Hard Drive (2 x 500GB RAID 0)
         • Windows 7 Home Premium 64-Bit
    When I open the application and click "New Project" I get the following error message:
    AdobePremiereElements.exe - No Disk
    There is no disk in the drive.  Please insert a disk into drive
         \Devices\harddisk2\DR3
    I can "cancel", "try again", or "continue".  The only thing that works is to hit "cancel"  (several times).  Premiere Elements will then open, but the error message will keep recurring.   Adobe Support (Chat) has not been much help.
    Anyone else come across this?  This seems to be a common error in earlier versions (version 9), but I can't seem to find any good solution to it.   HELP!!!!
    UPDATE:   Just as an FYI..while it's possible (but doubtful) there is preloaded software interfering, there is no other software (or viruses) installed on this computer.

  • No Disk Error when opening JFileChooser

    Hi all
    After launching my app via JWS and opening my apps FileChooser I get a 'javaw.exe - No Disk' error message:
    'There is no disk in the drive. Please insert a disk into drive A:.'
    This doesn't happen if I start the app without JWS. Although it happens only the first time after opening the FileChooser it's rather annoying for the user. I can't expect the user always having a disk in their drive.
    Is there a way of switching the scan for drive A off?
    Thanks for your help.
    Stephan

    This is a SecurityManager - Problem and the java.io.File.
    eg.:
    System.setSecurityManager(new RMISecurityManager());
    File[] roots = File.listRoots();
    Then you will see the problem...
    I tried the following workaround:
    before you access disk. (or JFileChooser)
    SecurityManager sm = System.getSecurityManger();
    System.setSecurityManager(null);
    // disable the SecurityManger
    // this special disk access needs no SecurityManager..
    ... popup JFileChosser or make FileAccess..
    System.setSecurityManager(sm);
    // restore the old SecurityManger
    It's not the best solution but it works..
    hope this will help,

  • No Disk Error

    When I try to start up iTunes I get a Windows - No Disk error. I cancel it three or four times and it goes away but iTunes will not boot up. Then it comes up with another message that says "The folder 'iTunes' cannot be found or created, and is required. The default location for this folder is inside the 'My Music' folder." Obviously it isn't there or it would work. I tried to look for it but the search came back with a whole butt load of files named 'iTunes'. I have removed the program and re-downloaded it and that didn't help. I don't know a lot about Computers but I know a little. Someone have mercy and help me. Thanks in advance.

    This might help you...or at least help you better explain what's happening.
    What are the iTunes library files?
