Displaying XML hierarchy with XSL

HI Gentlemen,
I have an XML subtree and an XSL stylesheet with the following cardinality:
[scheinarten_liste]
[scheinart]+
[scheinuntergruppen_liste]*
[scheinuntergruppe]+
Now, when the lower two elements are missing, then the pure hierarchical representation no longer feels well and delivers a mess. However, the <ul>..<li> representation is very stable and completely insensitive to missing elements. I tried this by playing fast and loose with the XML: commenting/uncommenting different parts of the it--it was always working correctly.
Below is a working code excerpt with solid balls in a single table cell.
The XML subtree:
    <scheinarten_liste V="1">
    <scheinart V="20" S="1.2.276.0.76.5.235" SV="1.03">
     <scheinuntergruppen_liste V="1">
       <scheinuntergruppe V="0101" S="1.2.276.0.76.3.1.1.5.1.19" SV="1.03"/>
       <scheinuntergruppe V="0102" S="1.2.276.0.76.3.1.1.5.1.19" SV="1.03"/>
       <scheinuntergruppe V="0103" S="1.2.276.0.76.3.1.1.5.1.19" SV="1.03"/>
       <scheinuntergruppe V="0104" S="1.2.276.0.76.3.1.1.5.1.19" SV="1.03"/>
     </scheinuntergruppen_liste>
      </scheinart>
      <scheinart V="42" S="1.2.276.0.76.5.235" SV="1.03">
     <scheinuntergruppen_liste V="1">
       <scheinuntergruppe V="23" S="1.2.276.0.76.3.1.1.5.1.19" SV="1.03"/>
       <scheinuntergruppe V="24" S="1.2.276.0.76.3.1.1.5.1.19" SV="1.03"/>
       <scheinuntergruppe V="26" S="1.2.276.0.76.3.1.1.5.1.19" SV="1.03"/>
     </scheinuntergruppen_liste>
      </scheinart>
    </scheinarten_liste>                                                                                            The XSL stylesheet (HTML body):
<table border="1">
<th>Scheinarten-Liste</th>
<tr>
<td>
<xsl:for-each select="pe:bedingung/pe:scheinarten_liste">
  <ul type="disc">
    <li><xsl:text>Listentyp: </xsl:text><xsl:value-of select="@V"/></li>
    <xsl:for-each select="pe:scheinart">
      <ul type="disc">
        <li><xsl:text>Scheinart: </xsl:text><xsl:value-of select="@V"/></li>
        <xsl:for-each select="pe:scheinuntergruppen_liste">
          <ul type="disc">
         <li><xsl:text>Typ der Untergruppen: </xsl:text><xsl:value-of select="@V"/></li>
            <xsl:for-each select="pe:scheinuntergruppe">
              <ul type="disc">
             <li><xsl:text>Untergruppe: </xsl:text><xsl:value-of select="@V"/></li>
              </ul>
            </xsl:for-each>
          </ul>
        </xsl:for-each>
      </ul>
    </xsl:for-each>
  </ul>
</xsl:for-each>
</td>
</tr>
</table>My question is: Does anybody know a solution to put the hierarchical levels into consecutive table cells with <tr>..<td>? I tried a lot of arrangements but I experienced that when re-executing a nested <xsl:for-each> loop, a new table cell was opened--erroneously.
With this in mind, I could then dismiss the solid balls and the nested list structure would look like normal nested <rowspan> output.
Thank you, kind regards
Miklos HERBOLY

You should be able to increase performance by caching Templates objects in memory as a previous post suggested.
Here is some untested code:public final class TransformerCache
     private static Map cache = new Vector();
     private TransformerCache(){}
     public static Transformer getTransformer( String filename )
          if( ! cache.containsKey( filename ) )
               TransformerFactory tf = TransformerFactory.newInstance();
               Templates template = tf.newTemplates( new StreamSource( filename ) );
               cache.put( filename, template );
          return ( ( Templates ) cache.get( filename ) ).newTransformer();
}This aproach works in a clustered environment, just bear in ming that there will be an instance of the cache on each server instance (virtual machine).

  • Transfer 100M XML file with XSL

    Hi,
    I am trying to transfer 100M XML file with XSL. Input.xml is the XML file, format.xsl is the XSL file. I type in the command line as:
    java org.apache.xalan.xslt.Process -IN input.xml -XSL format.xsl -OUT output.xml
    It got "out of memeory" error. My questions are:
    1. Is it possible to transfer such large XML file with XSLT?
    2. The XSL processor used SAX or DOM to parse XML file?
    3. Any suggestions?
    Thanks.
    James

    maybe?
    java -Xmx200m org.apache.xalan.xslt.Process -IN input.xml -XSL format.xsl -OUT output.xml

  • XML Parsing with XSL Performance lag

    Hi there
    I should qualify this post by saying I am fairly new to EJB's and have based the below on a Java Working with XML Tutorial I read.
    I have an EJB which is being developed to parse XML documents with an XSL stylesheet and return HTML for display. The code is working fine however there is a fairly hefty performance lag when using the EJB to generate the HTML as opposed to the straight HTML. I am getting an average response time of 95000ms using the EJB as opposed to 45000ms when viewing the straight HTML. The code I am using to do the parsing is :
    DocumentBuilder builder = factory.newDocumentBuilder();
    Document document = builder.parse(dataFile);
    // Convert docs into StreamSource
    StreamSource stylesource = new StreamSource(styleSheet);
    StreamSource source = new StreamSource(dataFile);
    StringWriter strWrite = new StringWriter();
    StreamResult result = new StreamResult(strWrite);
    // Use a Transformer for output
    TransformerFactory tFactory = TransformerFactory.newInstance();
    Transformer transformer = tFactory.newTransformer(stylesource);
    transformer.transform(source, result);
    There is then some error handling and the strWrite object is placed into an array to be returned.
    I am really looking to find out if the performance lag I am experiencing is normal or if there is anything I can do to improve the speed of the code.
    All comments and help is most appreciated.
    Cheers
    Justin.

  • How do you display xml file with xlst sheet in jsp

    I have an xml file with accompanying xslt file (and several images that are used in a single directory. If I doubleclick on the xml file, it displays perfectly in my browser - Formatting, images and all!
              The 100 dollar question - How do I duplicate this behavior in a JSP page in WebLogic 8.1 using the code in the xml and the accompanying xslt (formatting) file? I tried simple embedding the xml code in the jsp, but that didn't seem to work. What is the secret?
              Okay, I need to add a bit more information here. I understand that it is really easy to just redirect to the XML file. The issue is really security. I want the XML to be inside a jsp that will only allow validated users to view it.
              Another way to look at the problem would be, can I add a jsp security tag to the xml file? Or how to I add the xml code inside a jsp and keep the path references to the xslt and graphics.
              Hope the added information helps
              Thanks,

  • Safari won't display XML content with an embedded stylesheet

    I'm using Safari 5.0.2 on Windows XP. I cannot get it to display an XML document with an embedded CSS stylesheet. The file in question appears in this ZIP file: http://www.hl7.org/documentcenter/ballots/2011JAN/downloads/CDAR2IG_SDISP_R1_D12011JAN.zip
    That document demonstrates is an attempt to enable display of standardized healthcare content in common web browsers. Can anyone here help?

    I have a separate bug report to Chrome on this one, same general result in display. The file is an XML document, not a CSS style-sheet. It contains an xml-stylesheet processing instruction that has a local URI #hl7-css-for-cda pointing to an element in the XML that contains the CSS stylesheet. That element uses xml:id to identify itself, so it is (according to the W3C) possible for the browser to determine that element as being the target of the URI.
    The problem appears to be that the Display Engine in Safari won't load the content of that URI as a CSS stylesheet.
    When I validate the CSS content in that XML element it returns as being valid CSS, and when I validate the XML using my XML editor, it is both well formed, and valid against the XML Schema appropriate to that file.

  • Problem displaying XML data in XSL page

    Hi There!
    I'm having trouble when adding XML data from the schema (which shows up  properly in the bindings panel)  to the XSL page..
    Following the step by step available here...
    http://help.adobe.com/en_US/dreamweaver/cs/using/WScbb6b82af5544594822 510a94ae8d65-7a56a.html#ionCTAAnchor
    After  adding the XML item to the XSL file it ends up showing  up as  parent/client/name   (no brackets)  Instead of like the  example above  where it should display as {parent/client/name} and be  highlighted.    Also when previewing the XSL document it just shows   'parent/client/name'  instead of the actuall XML content..
    I  believe the XML data source is properly attached because it shows up in  the bindings panel..  But I don't know what else could be going wrong..
    Any help would be great!

    This is being enhanced to that the [...] button that appears in the data grid is available for all grid of data so that a popup with an extended area is shown.

    Is the error message displayed in Firefox or in IE, or in a customized window that doesn't identify the browser?
    ''If it displays in Firefox:''
    It's possible that the Troubleshooter doesn't work correctly unless IE is your default browser. You could test that possibility by having IE make itself the default and testing the Troubleshooter again.
    ''If it displays in IE or embedded in another Microsoft application:''
    In a web search I found these suggestions:
    (1) Reset your Internet Explorer settings, according to http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/ie/forum/ie8-windows_7/cannot-view-xml-using-xsl-style-sheet/ccfe80c6-c0db-4594-a7e3-475f9eac0e85
    (2) Try the System File Checker, according to http://ask-leo.com/why_do_i_get_the_xml_page_cannot_be_displayed_after_running_a_microsoft_troubleshooter.html
    Any luck?

    I tried to find out the solution on JAVA site, but i didn't find it.

  • Sorting xml document with xsl

    How can I sort below xml on empNo using xsl, I want an output to be in xml format.
    <employeeList>
    <employee empNo=1000>
    <Info >
    <fname></fname>
    <lname></lname>
    </Info>
    </employee>
    <employee empNo=1001>
    <Info >
    <fname></fname>
    <lname></lname>
    </Info>
    </employee>
    </employeeList>
    Can any one tell me the xsl for above.......
    Thanks in advance

    Hi,
    Your xml is not well-formed. Attributes have to be enclosed in double quotes.
    You can use the following stylesheet.
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <xsl:stylesheet version="1.0"
    xmlns:xsl="http://www.w3.org/1999/XSL/Transform"
    >
    <xsl:output method="xml"></xsl:output>
              <xsl:template match="/employeeList">
              <employeeList>
              <xsl:apply-templates select="employee">
              <xsl:sort select="@empNo"/>
              </xsl:apply-templates>
              </employeeList>
              </xsl:template>
         <xsl:template match="employee">
         <xsl:copy-of select="."/>
         </xsl:template>
    </xsl:stylesheet>

  • Displaying XML with JDeveloper

    Using JDev 10.1.3 for an ADF + Struts application,
    What is the smartest way of displaying XML documents, with different XML formats/structure, stored in a CLOB field of a database.
    I have already .xslt stylesheets for each different type of XML file; I plan to have this .xslt files as other column in the database.
    I would like to know how to incorporate this xslt on my project and specially how to use it when displaying the information XML/CLOB to the user?
    Any samples, ideas, url, etcx will be welcome.
    Thanks,
    OM

    i don't know if oracle has a product for this but they would have to plan one to embed in JDeveloper.
    i'm using authentic from altova that permit you to define entry helpers based on a xml schema to edit a document and to render it in html, rtf or pdf. I think it is possible to embed it in a java or web application. The best way is to ask altova support. For sure other similar solutions exists also.

  • XML data not displayed with XSL

    I have just started learning XML so bear with me. I have a xml document that I created and want to use a stylesheet to display it in html but it doesn't seem to be working. Here is the xml file:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <?xml-stylesheet href="XSL\myXSL.xsl" type="text/xsl"?>
    <GstBk:Book xmlns:GstBk="http://www.testurl.com">
    <GstBk:Guest>
    <GstBk:Address>
    <GstBk:Name>John Doe</GstBk:Name><GstBk:From>Anywhere USA</GstBk:From>
    </GstBk:Address>
    </GstBk:Guest>
    </GstBk:Book>
    And here is the xsl document:
    <?xml version="1.0"?>
    <xsl:stylesheet xmlns:xsl="http://www.w3.org/1999/XSL/Transform"
    xmlns:GstBk="http://www.testurl.com"
    version="1.0"
    >
    <xsl:template match="GstBk:Book">
    <html>
    <head>
    <title>Guest Book</title>
    </head>
    <body>
    <xsl:apply-templates />
    </body>
    </html>
    </xsl:template>
    <xsl:template match="GstBk:Guest">
    Name = <xsl:value-of select="GstBk:Name" />
    </xsl:template>
    </xsl:stylesheet>
    But the only data I get on the browser is:
    Name =
    Can anyone see something wrong with my files? I have downloaded examples from the net and they seem to work. I even compared them to my files and can't see anything obviously different. Any ideas?
    Thanks

    Your PL/SQL code doesn't produce a valid XML document.
    In the XML grammar, "&" is a special character and must be escaped using the character entity "&#38;amp;".
    If you were using standard methods to build XML from Oracle (SQL/XML functions for instance), I'm sure you wouldn't have this error.
    Please show us the PL/SQL code you're using to produce this XML output and we'll be able to help you further.

  • How to retrieve xml file from BLOB and display on browser with css/xslt

    Hi All,
    I am new to xml. I am storing my xml file into BLOB in database. Now in my jsp page I want to retrieve this xml file from BLOB and display in HTML/CSS/XSLT form...
    Pl. guide me.. any docs..?? Logic...??
    Thanks in Advance.
    Sandeep Oza

    Hello Sandeep!
    I'm not familiar with jsp but logic should be as follows:
    -in jsp page instantiate XML parser
    -load specified BLOB into parser
    Now you may traverse the XML tree or you might load XSL file and use transform method to transform XML according to XSL file.
    I have an example where I'm selecting XML straight from relational database and then transform it using XSL into appropriate HTML output, but it's written in PSP.
    You can try http://www.w3schools.com/default.asp for basics on XML, CSS, XSL. It's easy to follow with good examples.
    Regards!
