Distortion in Save For Web interface

I am still having problems with my Save For Web interface. Attached is a screen where you can see that with just the Optimized view showing (in this case 72%), the picture looks as expected. But if I go to 2-up or 4-up views, the 2nd image (which was the 72% Optimized) is now all pixelated as if it were a GIF.

OMG!  How many years have I been using this program and I have never noticed this until now?!?
Sorry for the brain fart and thanks for pointing that out!!!
I am really having a good laugh at myself about this one!

  • Pshop CS3 Save for Web Increases Width/Height

Hi, I've been using Photoshop for 15 years and used the Save for Web at CS2 without problem. In CS3, it is downsampling the res from 300 ppi to 72 correctly but at the same time increasing the width and height, as though I'd gone into Image Size to do the resize and had the Resample Image field unchecked. This worked fine in CS2, so what gives? I can't find any setting that needs to be changed in the Save for Web interface.

Buko, I respectfully submit that your comment makes no sense. In CS2, using Save for Web automatically cut down the ppi to 72, and it removed web-unnecessary things like previews and paths so that the file could become smaller. It did NOT change the width or height of the image.
The CS3 version is cuts down the res to 72ppi. This is fine. The problem we're experiencing (on more than one machine) is that it's growing the width and height as though it's not downsampling when it changes the res. IF that's what you mean by "strictly pixel based," then OK, but it's problematic.
This is exactly the opposite result that you get if you take a digital camera photo that has a large dimension but low res, and increase the res to 300 while not allowing it to resample: you get a high-res image with smaller width/height image, as all pixels get smaller but maintain their exact colors.
If the CS3 version of Save for Web changes the diensions of the image, which is frequently created based on the final dimensions needed in the web page, then it's freakin' useless, and I might as well create an Action using Image/Image Size to reduce the res but maintain dimensions.

  • Interface keeps changing in save for web panel

How can I set my interface to stay the same as one time the "save for web" panel shows the 4 images in a square, then the next time it shows in 4 vertical strips and then other times is shows up in horizontal strips?
This might be something very simple, but it's really annoying me!
    Thanks in advance!

  • Save for Web darker interface

I have for a long time been an advocate for the darker interface, using it mainly in After Effects. So it's great that the CS6 apps have taken this to other apps in the Suite. However Save for Web has been missed out it seems. Anyone else think this should be able to be darkened like the rest of the PS interface?

Yup, along with ACR and others - would be nice to have a consistent UI throughout the product, The main UI and Lightroom compliment each other very well, but then you get the sudden bright flash as a non-conformer pops into view.......
I heard from Nik they are looking to match their Selective Tool to match the new Photoshop UI.....

  • Pixelation / Distortion when using "Save for Web..." versus "Export"

Hi. When I export from Illustrator using the Save for Web & devices option (I export the original at png24) the images are not as smooth as those produced by selecting File-Export. 2 images produced by both images are attached. The variation is most noticeable on the round corners.
Is there a way to export work at full quality using the Save for Web & Devices option?

    jkadobeil,
I have transparency ticked. One cannot specify matte if transparency is ticked.
I can in 10. It may be a bug or corrupted preferences. If the latter, you may try to Ctrl/Cmd+Alt/Option+Shift during startup or Move the folder with Illy closed.

  • Help please with output settings in Save For Web Photoshop CS4

I am new to CS4 Photoshop so have been watching tutorials on Lynda.com. According to that tutorial I should have the ability to save a photo as an image in the Output Settings dialog box. The only options my panel gives me are:
    HTML
    Slices
    Background
    Saving Files
I don't have the option for Images Only or for HTML & Images. Are these two hidden somewhere?
I have been experimenting with Save For Web, but when I click on Save I get a panel that lists all the images saved in a folder named "Photos" but I cannot find in that folder any of the images that I optimized and saved for the web. Where are they to be found? Images that show up in Bridge are not my optimized images either.I would be grateful for some assistance with this.

Those settings, HTML, Slices, etc, are the Output Settings you don't normally need to change aonything in there.
Leave it at default and you will just save a version of the image stripped of unnecessary data and reduced to the degree you specified next to the file format choice.
When you press Save in the SfW interface it calls up a Windows OS Save dialog box showing the last used location.
The destination can be changed in the normal way. The Images you already saved will be in the the location that was in that dialog when you saved them.
There is a lot more information in the help pages on this topic!  (Hint.)

  • Crop tool doesn't work in Save for Web GRRRRRR

    Hi,
I'm working with Illustrator CS3 and seem to have a problem with the crop area tool. When exporting an image in "save for web", however, Illustrator just ignores the settings and crops to the artboard.
Is this a know bug? Or my computer going nuts? What should I do?
I took this from the lost archive⦠I seems that slices influence this.
Anybody any clues? (AI 13.02/ OS X 10.4.10)
    thnx

Basically, I would do this as James does. However, James is assuming you know what he means by "Use two applications of Transform effect to make the 3 x 4 array." Since you or another reader may not, I offer the following recipe that I prepared some time ago for a class. It's for 8-up business cards that will fit on letter-size stock.
    SETTING UP THE ELEMENTS
New document, rename Layer 1 to Cards.
Make a rectangle 3.5 X 2 inches (the size of a standard business card). Give it no stroke and a light gray fill (so you can see it as reference; you can clear the fill later).
Make a single set of crop marks for the top left corner. I made a 27-pt. square (3/8 inch) - no stroke or fill - and another at 18 pts (1/4 inch) - .25 stroke, no fill. Copy a horizontal segment from the smaller square, paste, and drag it to snap its left anchor to the bottom left anchor of the larger square. Copy a vertical segment from the small square, paste, and drag it to snap its upper anchor to the top right corner of the larger square. Delete the small square and group the segments/large square. Drag this group into the Symbols panel so you never have to make one again. The group on the page is now a Symbol; drag it by its lower right anchor to snap to the upper left corner of the business card rectangle. The two quarter-inch crop marks are offset from the card by 1/8 inch.
    Select the crop symbol.
Go to Effect > Distort & Transform > Transform
Move Horizontal: 3.5 inches (the width of the card)
    Move Vertical: 0
    Copies: 1.
Reference Point (tic-tac-toe thing): right column
    Reflect X: On
OK. The crop marks appear on the upper right corner of the card.
    Effect > Distort & Transform > Transform
    (Warning box: Apply New Effect)
    Move Horizontal: 0
    Move Vertical: -2
    Copies: 1
    Reference Point: lower row
    Reflect Y: On
OK. Crop marks appear on all four corners of the card.
At this point you can give the card rectangle a fill and stroke of None, and save the card/crop marks combination as a symbol. Call it BC.
Delete all the unused Symbols and Save Symbol Library: "BC"
Target the Card layer (click on the circle)
    Effect > Distort & Transform > Transform
    Move Horizontal: 4 inches
    Move Vertical: 0
    Copies: 1
    Reference Point: any
    Reflect: Both Off
OK. A copy of the card with its crop marks appears 1/2 inch to right of original.
    Effect > Distort & Transform > Transform
    Move Horizontal: 0
    Move Vertical: -2.5 inches
    Copies: 3
    Reference Point: any
    Reflect: Both Off
OK. 3 new rows of cards and crops appear below the first row
You now have crop marks for 8-up business cards; the original crop symbol and card rectangle are selected.
Go to the Graphic Styles panel and make this a new graphic style; name it BC 8-Up. Delete all the unused Graphic Styles, and Save Graphic Style Library as "BC 8-UP"
    USING THE ELEMENTS
New document. Drag out an instance of the BC symbol, and put it in the upper left corner of your letter-size page.
Click the BC 8-Up Graphic Style. Eight blank business cards are laid out.
New layer. Over the top left business card create or place any combination of type or art you want repeated on all the cards.
Target the layer and click the BC 8-Up Graphic Style. The artwork appears in place on all the cards. Any editing you do in the top left card is instantly reflected in the others. Also, because the style is applied to the layer, anything you put on this layer will have the style applied to it.
New layer. Over the top left business card place any type you want to be different on each card. With it selected as an object, click the BC 8-Up style - the type appears on all the cards.
Object > Expand Appearance. The type on each card is now individually editable.

I also tried the alt/ctrl/shift buttons when clicking Editor in the Photoshop welcome screen. It did ask if I wanted to reset the preferences. I chose yes. I still get the same error message when trying to save for web.
Below....showing I don't have a "save for web" folder on my C drive.
And below, showing the same error after pressing alt/shift/ctrl when clicking on editor and clearing the preferences.
I don't have a 'Save for Web' folder anywhere on my C: drive. I searched and came up with no folder with the text "save for web" in it.
I did find a "save for web" folder on my D: drive and deleted that.. but now when I start up Photoshop, the option for Save for Web is grayed out...not able to select it.

  • Save for Web & Devices 2-up view not appearing side by side

Hi, I'm hoping someone can help me with this issue. In Photoshop CS4, when I used to go  to the Save for Web & Devices screen, I liked using the 2-up view so I could see the difference between my original and the optimized versions. However, I've tried doing this in CS4 now and I remember seeing (in CS3 I believe) where the layout of the 2-up view was side by side (vertically) so you could have the original on the left and the optimized on the right. Now, in CS4, at least on my machine (mac OSX tiger), the 2-up view only displays the original and optimized horizontally (with the original on top and the optimized below). Is this a fixed layout for the 2-up view or can this be changed? Is this normal is something corrupted? I've looked everywhere for a button or setting to click (that I could think of) and have not been able to find a place where the layout setting can be changed. I know it's a very small issue for most people, but I really preferred viewing the two versions side by side vertically instead of one on top of the other. I'm assuming that this is just a setting somewhere that the user could change but I don't know - perhaps this interface update is new to CS4 and is not customizable?
Anyone have any information or solutions to this?

Thanks so much...that was so easy, but I don't think I would ever have found it!
It works now, I just resized the window and it's now side by side...funny how this was not described in the help file when I looked it up!
    Thanks again.

  • "Save for Web" exporting very slowly

I appologize if this question has been answered somewhere already, I didn't find a solution for my problem, so here goes.
When saving images for web, photoshop (or is it still considered image ready?) can take as long as 10-15 seconds per slice while saving. I found several people had an issue where the save for web GUI was taking a long time to load up... I do not have that issue. My GUI loads nice and quick, and the interface is as responsive as it should be. Only after telling the program to save the files does it start to chug.
I'm using a brand new Dell machine with Windows 7 fully updated. Have 4 gigs of ram, 2.4Gh Xeon, and 170gb of free HD space. Also, I'm using CS4 64bit Photoshop.

    Time to resurrect this thread...
I've been having the same slow-saving problem as before, now both 32 and 64 bit versions are saving slowly. I have noticed that once every blue moon it will export a file quickly, but seems there next attempt is slow again. Same issue whether reading and/or writing on a local or network drive. Also, as stated above, it doesn't seem to be relative the size of the source file, destination file, or number of slices. Big and little, dozens of images or a single image, they're all slow and they all seem to take roughly the same ammount of time.
I also have CS4 installed on my computer at home (which is pretty similar, hardware-wise, to my work PC) and I don't have this problem.
Scowering google I was unable to find any threads that directly relate to this problem. The closest thing I found was a post ( found here http://typography.com/documents/a_photoshop_slowness_fix.php) that says to delete "/Library/Preferences/com.adobe.Photoshop.plist" and "/Library/Preferences/com.adobe.mediabrowser.plist", then let photoshop recreate those files. The only problem is I can't find either of those files in CS4.
Anyhow... just looking for any suggestions. I'll try anything at this point. I'm probably losing close to an hour some days just sitting and waiting for my machine to export slices.

  • Unknown Error when using save for web

When saving a gif using the "save for web" option in Photoshop CC 2014, I get a "Could not complete operation. An unknown error has occurred" message.  I am using Mac 10.10.1.  I tried deleting the "save for web" pref files but same error happens.  Size of the file being saved (large or small) makes no difference.  No problems saving files using "save as".  Photoshop was uninstalled/reinstalled.  Problem is still there.

I think the reason why this question is asked often is because the FAQ entry is pretty lame and incomplete, especially for Mac users that by default have a color managed browser and by default have a screwed up rendering mechanism for untagged images.
Depending on your version of Photoshop, you can convert to sRGB before or during the Save for Web operation.
    cesspool13 wrote:
...I have been told that you are not supposed to embed the ICC profile in the document when saving for web because most monitors are untagged.
You convert to sRGB for the systems that do not fully support color management.
    and...
You include the sRGB ICC profile for the systems that do support color management.
Doing both covers your bum in most situations. You may choose to omit the ICC profile if you are working on common interface graphics that do not require strict color management. The ICC profile adds a few kilobytes to the file size that are not necessary on lesser graphic elements on a web page.

  • IBooks author color shift with "Save for web devices..."

Hi! I'm a web developer and I'm learning to use iBooks. It's a really easy tool, but there is a problem with color management wich is driving me crazy. This happen when I export images from "Save for web devices..." from Photoshop, then drag it to iBooks author.
As I do for web development, I do this:
    1) Configure photoshop Color Settings to work with "Color Monitor"
    2) Remove any color management from my document
    3) Proof Setup > Monitor RGB
    4) Disable Proof Colors
    5) Use "Save for web devices..." with ICC profile and sRGB unchecked
The exported JPG looks fine everywhere... Photoshop, Preview, Safari, Chrome, FF... but looks washed out when I drag it to iBooks Author. Why?
I solved this issue converting to sRGBIEC61966-2.1 profile and checking ICC profile when  "Save for web devices...", but I'm not confortable with this workaround because I'm not sure about what I'm doing exactly, and I am not sure if this images are gonna look good on any device (I only own an iPad 3).
Somebody know a best method to deal with this?
    Thanks!

Hi KT. Thanks for your response. I'm already using this formats. Anyway, the problem occurs within iBooks Author interface. I mean: I can see the color shift (or washed out...) at iBooks Author at my computer screen. Of course, when I test it on iPad it also looks bad.
It's incredibly strange because the JPGs I'm using looks fine everywhere else except iBooks Author.

  • Photoshop CC Save for Web Incorrect

    Hi everyone,
I recently purchased the Adobe CC suite for my Mac, OSX Mountain Lion.
Trying to Save for Web (which works) but I'll select an option on the top right, lets just say JPEG 70% (or PNG or anything) for arguments sake and on the bottom left where it displays the potential file output information it'll always show GIF, the GIF output size, etc.
I'm not sure whether I've got a setting wrong but I haven't had to change anything since I started using Photoshop back at PS7.
Wondering if its a bug or not or if anyone knows a potential fix?
    Thanks!

    Hey ckocho,
I can confirm this is a bug.
My belief is, it may have triggered after attempting to export a very large sliced document with "Save for web..." and then become stuck in this mode.
Here's a list of my symptoms (so others might stumble accross the solution):
    - Photoshop CC (updated to version 14.1.2 x64), Windows 7, 64bit
    - Save for Web... interface fails to correctly show "Optimised" view
       - No estimated filesize displayed for slices
       - Optimised preview not rendered using selected filetype (gif/jpeg/png) ie, all slices look like GIFs, and don't change when other selections are made
       - Selected slices do not "highlight" (outline) correctly, so you can't tell which ones you have selected
So by guesswork alone, you can still make selections and choices. The output is perfect, but working blind regarding the look and filesize quite defeats the purpose of the tool.
    Now, the good news.
The above trick corrects the problem! Thank you ckocho!
Simply open the "Save for Web..." dialogue and change views from "Optimised" to "2-Up", "4-Up" and back to Optimised, and the problem is gone. No reinstall required, whew!
Dear Adobe, please look into a fix
    Cheers,
    Anthony
