Poor Datagram Test results on Windows 2008 r2
Hi,
I am seeing poor throughput using the default datagram test between two of our new production machine, ~18MB/s.
Both machines are dual xeon cpu quad core, 48gb with gigE network running Win 2008R2 enterprise. Both links are set to auto and are showing as 1gbps on the server and switch.
Both servers are connected to the line card on the same switch.
Nothing else is running on this machine and resourcemonitor shows cpu usage is 1% while network usage is 15%.
Optimize reg script has been run on both.

The results you are getting are indicative of exactly what optimize.reg tries to solve. You may need to reboot after running it. Also please be sure you've applied it to both machines used in the test.

Dear community users,
We have run a datagram test between 2 application servers.
Result for our first server is

avg gap size: 1
avg gap time: 0ms
avg ack time: 19.211102ms; acks 39286
Results for our second server is:
Rx from publisher:
elapsed: 799153ms
packet size: 1468
throughput: 77 MB/sec
55183 packets/sec
received: 44100000 of 54964975

avg ack time: 27.228972ms; acks 3960292
I think throughput of both servers should be similar and around 90MB/sec, am I right ?
Thank youHi,
Yes the O/S socket buffer on the publisher and receiver machine is not properly allocated. It should be allocated to atleast 2MB and you can find the recommendations for your O/S here: http://coherence.oracle.com/display/COH35UG/Performance+Tuning
The things to consider in the datagram test are throughput and success rate on both publisher and receiver. You should run the comands datagram test using the -txRate=100 and see if you can achieve the success close to 1.0 and if yes your are good to go!
Hope this helps!

Slow network printing on Windows 2008 Server
Hi,
We are just testing/configuring a Windows 2008 (x64) server to replace an aging Windows 2000 file & print server.
I have added the print services role and added a network TCP/IP printer (a HP Laserjet 2200).
When I print to this printer from either the server (via print test page) or from a client, it takes around 30 seconds before the print will start to print. On our Windows 2000 server, this would print immediately.
I have insalled the HP 2200 driver that came with Windows 2008.
Anyone any ideas where to find the problem causing the delay?
Thanks,
KennyHello,
I have done some research and I find firewall component of the antivirus software such as Mcafee might cause similar network delay issues.
If you have installed AV softwares on Windows Server 2008, please try uninstalling it temperately and test whether this will make any difference.
Moreover, You could also try disabling TCP Chimney Offload, RSS, Receive Window Auto-Tuning Level on Windows Server 2008 one by one to see whether it makes any difference.
To disable TCP Chimney Offload, follow these steps:
a. Use administrative credentials to open a command prompt.
b. At the command prompt, type the following command, and then press ENTER:
netsh int tcp set global chimney=disabled
To disable RSS, follow these steps:
a. Use administrative credentials to open a command prompt.
b. At the command prompt, type the following command, and then press ENTER:
netsh int tcp set global RSS=disabled
To disable 'Receive Window Auto-Tuning Level', follow these steps: :
a. Use administrative credentials to open a command prompt.
b. At the command prompt, type the following command, and then press ENTER:
netsh interface tcp set global autotuninglevel=disabled
I hope this helps. Thanks.

Hi,
I have a lab with following structure.
RDWEB.test.com ---> RD web server
RDCB.test.com ----> Connection broker
RDSH01.test.com ----> Session server 1
RDSH02.test.com ----> Session server 2
RDSH03.test.com ----> Session server 3
RDSFarm01 (RDSH01, RDSH02, RDSH03) configured.
My Requirement:-
Now I have added two more servers (RDSH04 & RDSH05) in above lab. But this time I want to use RDSFARM02 for these two servers being connection broker (RDCB.test.com ) same as above.
Could you please let me know if it is possible to configure 2nd RDS Farm (RDSFARM02) with same connection broker server (RDCB.test.com) in windows 2008 R2 Environment?
System EngineerHi,
Yes, you can configure a second RDS farm using the same broker if you would like. If using DNS RR create the A records for the new FQDN (for example, rdsfarm02.domain.com) to point to RDSH04 and RDSH05, and in RD Session Host Configuration (tsconfig.msc)
on RDSH04 and RDSH05 set the farm name to RDSFARM02.

Will Windows 8.1 uninstall Windows 2008 server
I have a test box with windows 2008 server install. I now want to UNINSTALL windows 2008 server and INSTALL windows 8.1. Do Need to uninstall windows 2008 server first or will Windows 8.1 uninstall it for me?
thanks in advance.Hi,
If Windows Server 2008 is considered no more useful, we may take a clean install of Windows 8.1 and choose to format the whole drive. And it is recommended to take a Windows Server 2008 backup first, just in case.

Inplace upgread Windows 2008 R2 to Windows 2012
Hello,
I am testing inplace upgrade from Windows 2008 R2 to Windows 2012 R2. My test server is Windows 2008 R2 Enterprise, Evaluation and is a domain controller. I tried to perform an inplace upgrade, however it failed. The compatibility report says that
Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise cannot be upgraded to Windows Server 2012 R2 Datacenter Evaluation (Server with GUI).
I also update the schema first. It went fain and it was completed without error.
Thank you.Hi,
Based on my experience, it is not supported to upgrade
from a Windows server evaluation version to another Windows server evaluation version. If you want to use Windows server 2012 R2 Datacenter evaluation version, you need to delete the previous operate system and perform a clean installation. Or
you can convert the evaluation version of Windows Server 2008 R2 to a full retail version and then upgrade it to Windows server 2012 R2 Datacenter version.
For more detailed information, please refer to the link below:

How to test node failover in Windows 2008 R2 Failover Cluster?
Can anyone give me advice on how to properly test a node failure with a 2 mode Failover Cluster in Windows 2008 R2?
To test the failover of a clustered service or application
In the Failover Cluster Manager snap-in, if the cluster that you want to configure is not displayed, in the console tree, right-click
Failover Cluster Manager, click Manage a Cluster, and then select or specify the cluster that you want.
If the console tree is collapsed, expand the tree under the cluster that you want to configure.
Expand Services and Applications, and then click the service or application for which you want to test failover.
Under Actions (on the right), click Move this service or application to another node.
As the service or application moves, the status is displayed in the results pane (center pane).
Optionally, repeat step 4 to move the service or application to an additional node or back to the original node.

Test/Verify Biztalk 2013/Windows 2008 R2 installation
Hi
I have experienced problems with MSDTC on a new two server development box (virtual server)
BizTalk 2013/MSSQL 2012 on Windows 2008 R2
MSDTC failed connection when receive locations was started
Seems to be fine now DTC tester is working ok
I'd like to check how the installation is doing on a more regurlar basis
Any ideas, some scheduled action, a service or something
Thanks /PeterPeter,
You can consider few options:
Since you dont have any trace of MSDTC failure in your new installation, instead of looking for an trace, you can look for its reaction like suspend message and configure an alert to
be send to you (or to support team)
Normally any MSDTC related failures on a running instance would result in a eventlog entry, and again you can configure for an alert for this event log entry.
Another option is you can create a batch file to run the DTCPing tool and it can output an log file. Your automation script can interrogate or send the copy of the log file to you.
Also in MSDTC, you can enable tracing options, where you have options like “Trace Aborted Transaction” (In the same tab you can also choose the log file location). So you can create an
automated process to send you the log file (may be by email) when the log file is created or periodically.
As said, Messagebox view can be scheduled to run and it can capture the MSDTC failures. And this report can be emailed to you.
If this answers your question please mark it accordingly. If this post is helpful, please vote as helpful by clicking the upward arrow mark next to my reply. -
Poor performance by Matlab and Windows benchmark tests
Hello
I have a Lenovo Thinkpad W520 with Windows 7 64bit installed. Compared to other Notebooks with comparable hardware, my Lenovo is very slow. To prove my thought, I carried through a Matlab (64bit) benchmark test and the Windows 7 benchmark test. In both tests, my Lenovo was worse than the other notebooks. During the tests I set the Power Manager to performance and activated the Lenovo turbo boost.
Now I want to ask, if there are any settings, perhaps in the bios, to speed the laptop up? Or why result such a bad performance although the hardware is very good?
Thanks for your help
Solved!
Go to Solution.Thank you very much for your reply!
I dated up the BIOS from version 1.27 to 1.32. Now the benchmark tests all look great!!

Error in installing Oracle client 11g on Windows 2008 R2 (64bit) XenApp 6
I am trying to install "win64_11gR2_client.zip" Oracle 11g Client 64bit on Windows 2008 R2 that has been clamped and restricted by our security department. Details of the clamp:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/885409
The Windows 2008 R2 server is running on CITRIX XenApp 6.
When we try to install the client on a normal version of Windows 2008 R2 without the Clamp, the installation follows through and successfully. However, when we try to install the 11g Client on the Clamped Windows 2008 R2, we get the error below:
[INS-08802] Unable to instantiate the View class referred by View ID 'SummaryUI'
This indicates the primary issue is with the clamp. My issue now is knowing what exactly is causing the error. what restrictions should I enable from the clamp in order to get the installation working?
Here is the error log:

Cant add a printer in Windows 2008 Server printer server HP LaserJet P1606dn
Hello,
I am trying to install a HP LaserJet P1606dn printer in a Windows 2008 Server Virtual machine.
The printer is connected to the corporate network and I am able to do ping from my desktop to the printer.
Then I follow this steps.
1.- Install the driver application for W2008 Server.
2.- Add printer in W2008 Printer Server.
3.-Select "add a local or network printer" as an administrator.
4.- Choose network printer
5.-Create a new port --> Standard TCP/IP Port
6.- Fill the host name ---> ("printer1") or IP address --> (XX.XXX.XX.13) I have tried the both options separately but with no result. And fill the port name
7.-At this stage . W2008 Server tells me that " the device is not found on the network" . Be sure that: .....
So, in select device type, I select "Standard" and "Generic Network Card" and click on Next
8.- Install printer driver -> I select the proper driver HP LaserJet 1606dn
9.- Install the printer driver ---> use the driver that is currently installed (recommend)
10.- Type printer name --> "printer1"
11.-Share printer name ---> "printer1"
Here, begins the problem. Trying to print a test page, It says me that "A test page has been sent to your printer", I can see the document in the queue, but the printer page it isn`t thrown away outside.
I dont explain myself why, I have done several trials, and I dont know what happens
I would be very grateful if somebody could help me to solve this issue
Many Thanks
RobertHi lespaul80,
1st- check if you can connect to your printer on web interface(in IE: \\printer ip address
and check under network setup if subnet mask and def. gateway setup
also if you have DNS setup check it too
check if you have SNMP options - desable it
on server try ad printer by direct IP and try use upd drive(PCL6 or PS)
Hope it help you

Microsoft Windows 2008 Server and RDC
hi:)
We have a fairly serious problem. Many of our customers have a Microsoft Windows Server 2003 running our ASP web solution on that machine. In this web solution we use RDC (crystal) to show reports on the net, which works perfectly. But now a couple of our new customers have installed Microsoft Windows Server 2008 32 bit and 64 bit version. But when we are showing these reports on a Windows Server 2008, the result is not correct. It show a completely wrong result in the reports. This meaning showing 4 timers the records it should do.
Do u support Windows Server 2008 32 bit and 64 bit with RDC (crystal) ?
Have anyone experienced the same problem?
Sincerly Jan Tovgaard, Egdatainform, DKHi Jan
CR XI, CR XIR2 and CR 2008 have not been tested with Microsoft Windows Server 2008 and MS Windows Server 2008 would be added to the supported platforms Guide when it is done.
Please refer to the Supported Platforms Guide for CR XI, CR XIR 2, CR 2008 for more information.
Hope this helps!!!

Slow printing on windows 2008 std, R2 and windows 2012
Hi All,
I have a print server which is configured on windows 2008 R2. We are experiencing slow printing when printing directly from the server or from a client through the server. Small sized files prints fast, anything which has image takes a long time. All the
printers in our organization are Xerox Colorqube 9303. When installed the driver directly on to windows 7 32 bit PC, it prints without any delay. Also, when prints from the server a 2 MB file becomes 15 MB or more while sending. We have tried PCL6 and PS drivers.
To replicate it, i have installed a windows 2012 server ended up with the same result. Installed windows 2008 standard 32 bit with SP2 and the result remains same. Also tried it on windows 8, 64 bit without any luck. So effectively, it works fine only when
directly installed on a windows 7 PC. I have disabled all three: disabling TCP Chimney Offload, RSS, Receive Window Auto-Tuning .
After shooting the print, if you observe the printer properties, it sends data at a very low rate which results a 10 MB documents prints take around 10 minutes. At the same time, file copying from the server to and fro is working normally. All these servers
are directly connected to the cisco 6509 core switch. All the above tests were performed on the same physical switch. The server and clients are on the same network (subnet).
Have anybody come across to a similar issue. Any useful suggestions would deeply appreciated.
Thanks,
Prince MathewHi Prince Mathew,
Based on your description, this issue seems that it’s related to this specific model printer (Xerox
colorqube 9303). Please install the latest version of the driver and the firmware from Xerox website, and then check if this issue still exists.
If it still persists, please clear Printer Spooler Files and enable the Spooler Service again.
For details, please refer to.
1. Click Start, run "Services.msc" (without the quotation marks).
2. In Services list, please double click "Printer Spooler". Then click
Stop, and then click OK.
3. Please locate to: "%WINDIR%\system32\spool\printers", delete all files in this folder.
4. Click Start, run "Services.msc" (without the quotation marks). In Services list, double click
"Printer Spooler". Click on Start. In the Startup Type list, make sure that "Automatic" is selected and click OK.
Then check if this issue can be solved.
Hope this helps.

Windows 2008 R2 connection broker
I have a problem related to the fact that remote desktop client are not redirected to the disconnected sessionr when they try to reconnect.
I'm using a netscaler load balancer that uses redirection toker with the connection broker server.
I have made a small configuration test environment that reflect my origina configuration and the problem will exist event there.
All the servers are windows 2008 R2 with sp1 and all latest fix available using microsoft update.
The connection broker server is a domain controller server, and the terminal server are computer member of the domain. All the information are correctl registered by the connection broker database, but is seems that it works only with administative users.
The error that is reported
RD Connection Broker failed to process the connection request for user DOMAIN\USER.
Load Balancing failed OR Specified endpoint could not be found.HRESULT = 0x80070515.
I have found no information about the error

Any idea ?
Thanks
FlavioHi Flavio,
It seems that you are facing issue with the RDCB load balancing between servers. Might possible that there is some wrong configuration happens which cause this issue. Still I like you to recheck all the configuration for your environment. Also as you said it
works with admin users, have you provide access to user to connect to the server?
From the error description it appears to be error 802 with specific code. To troubleshoot this issue, you can apply below steps and try.
1. Please try to limit single RDS session for TS user.
2. Install RDS broker to separate server
3. Run NLB diagnose to check if any issue related to NLB
4. Use IP address redirection instead of token redirection
Also try to apply this policy settings.
Computer Configuration / Administrative Templates / Windows Components / Remote Desktop Services / Remote Desktop Session Host / RD Connection Broker /
Use RD Connection Broker load balancing: Enabled
Configure RD Connection Broker server name: Enabled
And then apply gpupdate /force on every server and check the result.
Here is the article for related error only for reference.
Hope it helps!
Thanks.

Windows 2008 R2 / ESXi 5.5 - 10 GBit Network Performance
Hallo,
maybe my problem is by design, but I hope anybody has a solution to improve the transmission speed between Windows 2008 R2 Guests.
In my Test-Environment I have 2 Windows 2008 R2 Guests on 2 ESXi Hosts with Intel 10 GBit Nics which are Cross-Connected.
Between these VMs the maximimum transmission rate with iperf is 2.1 Gbits/s (Debian: 9.28 Gbits/s).
Iperf windows Setup
Server
iperf -s -P 0 -i 1 -p 5001 -f g
Client
iperf -c <SERVER> -P 1 -i 1 -p 5001 -f g -t 10 –w 128000
While testing with NetIO the maximum transmission rate was 397 MByte/s (with 32k packets).
ESXi Configuration

RSS works in my Tests on 2 vCPUs
To verify my results I installed 2 Debian 7.6 Guests with open-VM-Tools and VMXNET3 vNIC
Test Results:
Iperf: 9.28 Gbits/s (with default windows Size)
NetIO: 430 MByte/s (with 32k Packets)
To verify my results I installed 2 Windows 2012 R2 (without Patches) VMXNET3 vNIC
Test Results:
Iperf:2.3 Gbits/s (with 128k windows Size)
NetIO: 420 MByte/s (with 16k Packets)Well, if you could reach 8.9 Gbits/s with these settings then I guess it's alright and I should rather say iperf requires a lot more custom tuning of options to reach a similar level of efficiency under Windows compared to it's Linux counterpart, which barely requires any custom options for maximum throughput.
I have tried the psping utility and it achieved better results than untuned iperf tests, though results were mixed overall:
