DMG Not Recognized

Just got a Macbook Pro running OS X 10.6.8 from my mom and for some reason I can't open some .dmg files. I downloaded a couple things and when trying open them it says it can't read the disc because the .dmg is not recognized. Right after that, my download for the newest version of Flash finished and that one opened and installed fine. Tried redownloading it again and same thing.
Later I downloaded/installed Chrome with no problem so I retried that first download and still no luck.
I read it could be a bad download so I tried again, from multiple sites, and still the same thing. Read that it could be a problem with the firewall so I went to turn that off for a bit and found out my mom had never turned it on in the first place...
I'm trying to get the install discs from her to see if it was just something she did that 'causing this to happen but I won't have them for a while. Anything else I could try?

Set up a new account & name it "Test."  If the problem crops up there, then the problem is system wide.  Otherwise, you will need the system DVD to repair.

    (I am using a MAC 2.6 GHz Intel Core i7 (16GB 1600 MHz DDR3) OSX 10.7.5)

Squasha9 it would appear that the DMG you downloaded is corrupted.  Where did you download the installation files from?  You can download a copy of the installation files from Download CS6 products.

  • Firefox 4.0 dmg not recognized on mac os 10.5.8

trying to upgrade from firefox 3.6.
downloaded firefox 4.0 dmg file not recognized.
working with mac operating system 10.5.8.

Firefox 4 requires at least OS X 10.5 and an Intel Mac. There is a third party version of Firefox 4 that runs on OS X 10.4/10.5 and PPC Macs, for details see http://www.floodgap.com/software/tenfourfox
If you prefer, you can get the latest version of Firefox 3.6 from http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html
Mozilla are working to prevent Mac users with non-compatible systems from getting the notification about Firefox 4, and also not displaying the "Download Firefox 4" button on http://www.mozilla.com

  • DMG Not Recognized - Will Not Open

After using a time machine backup to transfer my account and data (but not applications) to my new Macbook using Mountain Lion I am unable to open and install the uTorrent .dmg file from their website, (I already had uTorrent installed on my previous backup) recieving the dmg could not be recognized error. I have been able to open other dmg's and I've redownloaded in multiple browsers so it cannot be a corrupted download. I've also chaged the Gatekeeper settings to allow all and used get info to ensure it is opening in DiskImageMounter and this hasn't changed things either. Any assistance with this issue would be greatly appreciated.

I've also have the same problem, a lot of people state that download is incomplete or corrupt. I've installed the same utorrent.dmg on my iMac and it worked without any issues.
The guys in the uTorrent forum keep saying it's all about the download process, but I have a very stable connection no matter the time and traffic, no downtimes, the MBP is brand new, I have nothing much installed on it, just set up the Mac OS X Lion 10.8.4.
I personally believe it might be something wrong with the dmg that uTorrent provides.

  • Dmg not recognized on snow leopard 10.6.6 :(

    Hello,
I'm having trouble with two of dmg's I've downloaded. I'm not sure if it's because I'm running on snow leopard. When I click to get them mounted these pop-up:
My other dmgs worked, however. Here are the solutions I've tried, to no avail:
    used disk utility > repair
    redownloaded dmg
    tried mounting app, pacifist
deleted com.apple.frameworks.diskimages.uiagent.plist and com.apple.diskimages.fsck from the /home/library/preferences folder as suggested at https://discussions.apple.com/message/10223805?messageID=10223805
If there are any apps or internal solutions that could help I'd really appreciate it. Thanks in advance!

It's possible the dmgs are not compatible with your verson of SL or even with SL.  The latest version is OS 10.6.7.
Did you read the system requirements of the files you are trying to download?

  • Mac OS 10.5.6 downloaded Firefox 3.6.13 Came as .dmg When I try to launch it says "Not Recognized". Right click for "Open With" refers me to Disk Utility when same results "Not Recognized"

About my Mac > G5 Desktop OS 10.5.6
Want to upgrade to Firefox 3.6.13
The download comes as a compressed file in .dmg format. When I attempt to launch the .dmg file to decompress I get a error message that says: The following disk images failed to mount: Image > Firefox 3.6.13 Reason > Not Recognized. When I right click to see what opening app it is directed to it says: Open with "DiskImageMounter (default). Disk Utility is offered as another opening resource when I direct the file to Disk Utility and go to Menu Bar select "File" then select "Open Disk Image" (or Cmd + "O") I get the same result. Have tried downloading the file twice more and get the same results

Vk2mh it sounds like the download was not complete or corrupted.  Where are you downloading the update from?  Have you tried downloading again?

You would need to restore your phone as a new device in iTunes, not from back up, that's the only way to remove the data.

  • Installing Firefox 4 onto mac os x "The following disk images couldn't be opened. Image: Firefox 4.0.dmg Reason: not recognized".

  • Can't open .dmg files, says its "not recognized"

I have recently tried to mount a .dmg file but a dialogue box will always open, saying that the disk was "not recognized".
I've already checked "From anywhere" under "System Preferences/Security and Privacy/Allow applications downloaded from", so there should be no problem with downloading a .dmg file off the internet, right?
The .dmg is an Adobe Extensions Manager CS4. I'm using a Macbook Pro with OS X 10.8, and yes I already know that particular extension manager is not for this operating system, but this has already happened with a 10.8 version as well.

If you right click on the dmg can you open it?
Use Software Update or the OS 10.8.3 combo update to update your OS.  Also, update everything SU has to offer for your computer.  When done, repair permissions and restart your computer.

  • I have a new macbook and downloaded the firefox browser but i can't open the .dmg file. Window pops up saying not recognized.

Setting up my new macbook pro and I went to install the firefox download currently available on the mozilla site and I double-click the firefox .dmg download file and a window pops up and says "The following disk images cannot be opened. Firefox20-1.0.dmg. Reason: not recognized.
Nothing else comes up as an option.

  • Can't download free trail version. DMG file not recognized.

I am having hard time getting my hands on the free trial of Final Cut Pro X. The dmg file that downloads is only 175 bytes. When I open it, a warning box pops up saying the image is not recognized. Is this an issue on the Apple end of things or mine?

Thanks for the info. That is indeed the download address I have tried using. I do not have a previous version of FCP installed. Is there a way to get a free trial with out having previously purchased a version of FCP? I am new to FCP and would love to try it out before dropping hundreds of dollars.

  • "Image not recognized" on img or dmg files...

    Hello all...
Anyone had the same problem? I have just updated to OS Maverick and I tried to install a firmware for my external RAID. Downloaded from the official website but no luck. I get an error message "Image not recognized". Tried to open it with stuffit or RAR expander but same problem...
    Any advice?
    Thanks s lot...

    Possible solutions:
    Download the file again.
Check if the file size matches what it says on the website. If the size is way off, then don't try to install it.
If the source website provides it, verify the checksum of the file. Google "mac verify checksum of a file".

  • Final Cut Pro X (10.1.1) can't be opened because "the image is not recognized".

I have tried to download the trail version of Final Cut Pro X (10.1.1) twice but every time it has been downloaded my computer tells me it can't be opened because "the image is not recognized".
Do any of you have a similar problem or know a solution?

Also having this issue, Im on OSX Yosimite 10.10.1 trying to download the 30 day trial version of Final Cut Pro 10.1.4
    MacBook Pro (13-inch, Early 2011)
Processor: 2.3 GHz Intel Core i5
    Mem: 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
I have downloaded the 30 day trial of Final Cut Pro from https://www.apple.com/ie/final-cut-pro/trial/
The file which gets downloaded is "FinalCutProTrial10.1.4.dmg"
The size of this file is 2,147,487,419 bytes (as viewed in the inspector)
I would be interested to hear from anyone who installed this successfully whether the DMG file was the exact same size (although I have a feeling I wont hear anything as most people would delete the DMG file after installing).
