DMM 5.3 on MCS-7835H3 and DMM-FA-C210-K9 Failover

Hello,
We are working with a customer that wants to add redundancy to their existing DMM environment. We initially deployed their solution on a MCS-7835H3-DMS server and eventually upgraded it to 5.3. Now they want to add Failover and purchased the DMM-FA-C210-K9 with DMM-FASW-52-K9 from another partner. After sitting idle for several months they have engaged us again to help them figure out a solution.
I see that 5.4 is able to run on a VM. I have the following questions.
Can I upgrade the MCS7835H3-DMS to v.5.4? Based on the 5.4 upgrade document, it appears to be supported.
If we can upgrade the MCS7835HE-DMS to 5.4 will Failover work with the DMM-FA-C210-K9 server?
Since they already have the DMM-FA-C210-K9 server, can it be used as a VMware Host to run 5.4 virtually?
If so, will failover work with the MCS-7835H3-DMS server running 5.4?

Ray,
The short answer to your two questions is no.  Neither option is supported.
If you are running virtual host both the primary and failover servers must be virtual.  You can not mix types here.
Also the MCS 7835 is not supported in a failover deployment.  Only the DMM-SVR-C210-K9 as the primary server is supported per the 5.4 failover guide. http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/video/digital_media_systems/5_x/5_4/dms/failover_guide/dmsfailover.pdf .  The DMM-FA-C210-K9 can be used as the standby server though.
Hope this helps
John

  • Can SnS and DMM coexist in the new MXA server?

    Hi guys,
i would like to confirm if a MXA server (SNSC220-WKG-K9) can support both a SnS 5.3.12 and DMM 5.3.12 on the same HW?
    Thanks

    Hi Elter,
No, you still have two separate hardware devices running the SNS 5.3.12 and the DMM 5.3.12. I believe the DMM HW part is "DMMC220-SNS-K9". There are bundles including the two hardware devices anyway, your Cisco Account Team would be able to help you with the proper order configuration.
Also note that the hardware will come with 5.3.10 release installed from factory and will need to be upgraded first to 5.3.11 and then to 5.3.12 if you need to run the latest release.
    I hope this helps,

  • Error occurs, repair DMM software, error goes away - rinse and repeat

This error first happened early last year, then it occurred last month and now it's popped up twice this week.  What could cause a missing library to repeatedly go missing?
The error is in TestStand, but the origin in in LabVIEW:
I can't recall what I did the first time I saw this error, but the last three times it happened I fixed it by repairing the NI-DMM installation:

Are the sequence modules all LabVIEW code or are you calling into DMM or DAQmx from other languages as well
I notice that your drivers are a bit out of date.  Consider upgrading DAQmx and DMM to latest. (lots of bugs have been removed in DAQmx and DMM)
But do try setting the regisrty key first

TestStand load/unload settings don't seem to apply.  This is a well-established production sequence that is running on two ATEs and I only have trouble with this one.
    All modules are LabVIEW.
I'm leary of updating DAQmx & DMM, but I will once I image my HD.
I don't want to edit the registry because the problem is intermittent on only one machine and repairing the DMM installation temporarily fixes the problem.

  • DMM 5.2.2 7835H2 migration to DMM 5.4 VM

    Hi all,
We are currently running DDM 5.2.2 on an MCS 7835H2 server and are using DMP 4400's only.  We are looking to migrate to DMM 5.4 as using our Software Upgrade Contract.  I have been reviewing the migration options/upgrade options and understand the process of having to go through the 5.2.2>5.2.3>5.3>5.4>5.4.1.
However i don't have access to either an MCS 7835H3 or a C210 server, but I do have access to a C220M3.  Is there a migration path to take me from 5.2.2 to 5.4.1 running on our UCS B series which are running VMWare 5.0?
I have seen the migration document that references migration from the 7835H2 to the C210 at http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/video/digital_media_systems/hw/platform/migration/dmm-mcs-ucs.html
But as mentioned above don't have access to a C210 to undertake this.  Is there a way take the configuration from 5.2.2 and import this directly in to a fresh install of 5.4 (I'm guessing not).  can I use the C220 instead of the C210?  If this is possible can I run throught the migration, undertake the upgrades to get me to DMM 5.4.1, install a duplicate DMM 5.4.1 in VMware and backup the C220 and restore to the VMware install?
    Thanks for any assitance.
    Regards
    David
    Happy New Year

    Hi David,
Regarding licenses, they are tight to the serial number of the hardware, so a new license is always needed after an hardware migration. You just need to email [email protected] after the software initialization on the new hardware as documented at:

  • MCS-7835H3-OFFER= Is a rack mounting kit included?

I have a customer who is getting their MCS7835H2-DMM51K9 server replaced with a MCS-7835H3-OFFER=
All I need to know is, does the MCS-7835H3-OFFER=  come with a rack mounting kit or not? If not, could the existing MCS7835H2-DMM51K9 server's rails be reused?
I'm assuming that it's the same chassis but with a faster processor and more mem/disk and would be a straight swap but can anyone clarify if this "H3" part number comes with a rack mount kit?
    Thanks,

  • Configure active and standby mac address in failover

    Hi guys,
I just have a doubt that, if I configure the active and standby mac address in failover, does it will cause any downtime?
As I planning to configure the active and standby mac addresses in failover during production time and not wish that it will bring any downtime to me.
Besides that, just need some guideline that do I need to put all the interfaces' mac addresses in failover?
    failover mac address GigabitEthernet0/0 0022.90fe.2000 0022.90fe.2001
    failover mac address GigabitEthernet0/1 0022.90fe.3000 0022.90fe.3001
    failover mac address GigabitEthernet0/2 0022.90fe.4000 0022.90fe.4001
    failover mac address GigabitEthernet0/3 0022.90fe.5000 0022.90fe.5001

    Hi Marius,
Seem like set the failover MAC address was not working for me.
Last friday I was tested the failover MAC address.
    TEST 1
1, Power off primary ASA and secondary ASA work as active.
2, 2821 router able to learn the correct arp entries.
    TEST 2
1, Power on primary ASA and failover from secondary to primary.
2, 2821 router able to learn the correct arp entries from ASA.
3, Set failover MAC address, power off primary ASA and secondary ASA be active.
4, 2821 router unable to learn the correct arp entries.
    TEST 3
1, Removed failover MAC address from secondary ASA.
2, 2821 router still unable to learn the correct arp entries from ASA.
3, Power up primary ASA and secondary ASA still in active.
4, 2821 router still unable to learn the correct arp entries from ASA.
5, Reboot 2821 router and it able to learn the arp entries from ASA.
I am not sure this issue from router or from the ASA. But I guess I will try to upgrade the router in term of software and hardware.

  • Accessing a SWTICH and DMM cards in a PXI System remotely

    Hi everybody,
I use a PXI system with a NISwitch PXI-2503 and NiDMM PXI-4070. The embedded controller PXI-8176 is running WinXP.
From a client machine I want to access remotely this cards. Via VISA Server it is possible to interact with the Switches using NI's driver NiSwitch. On the ther hand, I did not succeed so far to access remotely the DMM using the driver software NiDMM. I receive always the following error:
"Error -1074135030 occurred at niDMM Initialize.vi
    Possible reason(s):
Error: (Hex 0xBFFA000A) Failure loading driver module."
    My Software Versions are:
    Labview 7.1, VISA 3.1, NI-DAQ 2.10, NiSwitch 2.20, NI-DMM 2.2.1
I have read that there are some incompatibilities between VISA and RDA conc
erning the TCP-IP port, but this problem should be solved in the versions I currently use.
Anybody out there who knows a workaround?
Thanx for any help in advance
Hannes Schmidt, Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, Lausanne

    Hannes,
Unfortunately I don't think anybody here knows of a workaround because the application is not one that anybody has recently tested using NI-DMM. The easiest work around to me would be to use LabVIEWs remote front panels to do the acquisition. The only reason why using this might cause a problem is if you need to save data to file on a remote PC. So the only consideration to work with is to save the file on the host PC and then grab the file saved using FTP or something along those lines. That may be a much easier work around than trying to figure out what is going on with the low level DMM driver call. Hope this helps. Good luck with your application.

  • DMP 4400 v5.4 and DMM 5.2.2 Registration

Please let me know, the DMP 4400 with running version 5.4 will register in DMM running version 5.2.2 or not ??
Should I need to upgrade the DMM to 5.2.3 or higher?

    Nishant

    Hi John,
    Thanks for the reply..
We already have server setup with version 5.2.2 and now planning tu place order of new 4400 DMP's. New DMPs are coming with 5.4 version. So what is the best method to implement?
Can we downgrade the DMP firmware? or any other workaround is there?
    Please reply..

  • ELVIS II Reads high mV in AI and DMM

Howdy! I am having trouble getting a good reading for a mV signal from my ELVIS II box. I am running Windows 7. Whether I use NIMAX or the DMM for ELVIS, I am getting roughly 52mV when the power supply indicates the voltage should be closer to 23 mV. A hand held DMM reads the 23 mV. I have other items with much higher readings, and they do not seem to be wrong. When the power supply is off, I get a good zero reading.

Thanks for the help. I think that the problem was that I was taking a measurement  from a resistance that was so low, 0.01 ohms that I could not make a two wire measurement. this is the voltage across a shunt resistor.  I need a four wire system that would allow me to take into account the lead resistance. I could not figure out how to make a four wire measurement with the ELVIS. Maybe I am completely wrong. I ran the current measurement through the ELVIS current measurement and am currently living with the 2A limit. The measurement works great. I would prefer to run the experiment at 3 amp, but at least it works.

  • Photodiode sensitivity and DMM diode test

I have questions about the operation of a photodiode and the relationship between sensitivity and the diode voltage I mesaure with my DMM.
One of my products uses a photodiode to detect the magnitude of incoming light.  Recently there has been a dramatic step-change increase in the uncalibrated/default value of this measurement.  The technicians trying to salvage these units noticed that they could use their DMM's diode test to discriminate between "good" and "bad" photodiodes.  Every unit that failed calibration had a diode measuring 0.6V in this test; old production units contained photodiodes measuring 0.5V.  Replacing the 0.6V photodiode with one measuring 0.5V makes everything all right.
Is the DMM diode test result related to the photodiode's forward voltage?
Is the sensitivity of a photodiode related to the parameter measured by this test?
What do I even ask the manufacturer if I want what I used to get?
    Thank you,
    Jim
You're entirely bonkers. But I'll tell you a secret. All the best people are. ~ Alice

    Jim,
I think you are on the right track in trying to ask the right questions. Unfortunately it may not be easy to determine what those questions are.
What is the wavelength or spectrum of your light source? What is the intensity at the photodiode? Do you have stray light or other noise issues? Is the illumination uniform over an area much larger than the photodiode or are you measuring a small spot? How fast are things changing? Has anything else changed in the product or the test setup?
In response to one of your original questions: Every handheld DMM I have used applies a fixed current (often 100 uA or 1 mA) with a compliance voltage ranging from 1 to 4 V and then measures the voltage across the diode.
Any junction diode, including LEDs, is a photodiode if light can get to the junction.  The forward voltage of a diode depends on the materials including the doping levels, the size, and any internal resistance including lead and connection resistances. The sensitivity depends on those things as well as the optical configuration, exposed area, and probably other things. I doubt there is any simple correlation between forward voltage drop and sensitivity. You probably got lucky on this one.
How closely does the performance in your product correlate with any of the specifications on the photodiode datasheets?

  • LabVIEW 7 and NI Switch and DMM function, Won't compile

After installing labview 7, I get broken arrow for PXI Ni Swich. Error occurs in NiSwitch Initialize.vi when initialzing Switch. The error message indicates: "Call Library Function Node: Function not found in library"

Thanks for you input. I did installation in the sequence you mentioned but it didn't help. With a help of apps at NI and being on the phone for soooo long, he found out that two dll files called ivi_Switch.dll and ivi_switch_32.dll were listed in VXIPNP\WINNT\bin folder as well as C:\programfiles\ivi\bin. By removing those dll from VXIPNP folder fixed the problem.
Bottom line is - leave the dll fils in C:\programfiles\ivi\bin as it is!

  • NAC Server and Manager Failure with out failover

Hi, I'm working on a NAC L2 OOB wired design with 1 CAM and 1 CAS. I've not included failover to the design for the obvious financial reasons, and want to figure out the affect that the network would have in the case of a failure.
1.)What would the users experience in the event of a CAS failure? both currently online users and new users
2.)What would the users experience in the event of a CAM failure? both currently online users and new users
3.) Are there any ideas on how to minimize the effect on the users in the event of a failure, w/o adding failover bundle ?
Many thanks for your valuable input in advance.
    Din

If you are out OOB, then a CAS failure would not affect logged in, remediated users, anyone not logged in would be stuck because when the CAS fails, the connectivity to the CAM would be lost.
If the CAM fails, you will not be able to log in, do remediation or anything. VLAN settings on switches will be frozen where they are at the moment of CAM faiure. Not that you could easily connect to switches, change vlans to allow users onto the LAN and the CAM would accept that passively when restarted but if you use the Agent it will probably want to log in again, which is not a huge issue if you use AD SSO.

  • Is it possible to use a 5500 WLC and a 2500 WLC as failover?

I am curious to know if there are any technical issues with this design. The 5500 WLC would be the primary and 2500 WLC would be the secondary. The only need for the secondary would be in the event of failure of the primary, and support needs when doing maintenance such as code upgrades.
We would use the same version of code on each controller and apply the necessary amount of AP licenses on each. The controllers would have identical configurations and host multiple SSID's, including offering guest services. Does the 2500 support guest network services?

Yeah, believe the 2500 only does multicast-multicast mode.  Which isn't that big of a deal usually.  MM being the preferred method.
the 2504 also has that 300M backplane limitation.  SO if you are going to use the 2504 I would recommend HREAP so you don't have to worry about that.
    Not supported on 2504.
    •Support for wired guest access.
•Cisco 2500 Series Controller cannot be configured as an auto anchor controller. However you can configure it as a foreign controller.
    •Supports only multicast-multicast mode.
    •Bandwidth Contract feature is unsupported.
•Access points plugged directly into the WLC.
    •Service port support

  • 11i : Can we run Apache and Forms on cluster for failover?

Hi... We are currently running 11.5.5 successfully on 4 servers:
URANUS (cluster made up of HADES and ATHENA) : database and reports
    ARTEMIS : forms server
    PEGASUS : http server
We are now attempting to reconfigure the application architecture to increase
failover because if ARTEMIS or PEGASUS fails, our system is unusable. At the
back end we are ok because we can bring up the database and reports server on
the secondary node in the URANUS cluster.
One of the options we are considering is to cluster the 2 machines ARTEMIS and
PEGASUS together, and run forms and http on the one primary node. If the
primary node in the cluster failed, then we would bring up the forms and http
server on the secondary node automatically when failover happens.
    Has anyone done this?
Does Oracle support the clustering of these application tier services (http and
forms) on Compaq TRU 64 clusters?

hmm.. that's a very interesting question... if you find out please let me know too.
