DNG Converter no longer converts focusing points from Canon CR2 files

Hi all,
Up until some time between July 2010 and September 2010, the focusing points embedded in the original Canon CR2 files were also converted and containded in the DNG-file. Hence up until this point in time the focusing points were shown in Apple's Aperture. Since September 2010 this is no longer the case.
I had hoped for the DNG Converter 6.7 Beta to have corrected this truncation of the files.
I am using af Canon EOS 1D Mark III. I am running OS X Lion 10.7.3
1. Has anybody else experienced the same change in behavor of the DNG Converter?
2. Can anybody still see the focus points in Aperture or equal Imaging program?
3. Does anybody have an idea, how to contact Adobe for such a feature request?
Thank you in advance for your help.
Kind regards,
Allan

Hi MadManChan2000,
Thank you for your answer. So what you are saying is that for some reason Apple's Aperture is no longer reading these MarkerNote metadata correctly?
Kind regards,
Allan

  • Viewing selected focus points from RAW file in Lr5 ?

Why doesn't Lightroom have a plugin or option available to view the focus points that were used in the original photo?
The info is stored in the metadata and shows up for in-camera photo review but it does not show up after  .nef file is converted to .dng in Lightroom. This is a very useful tool that could easily be implemented in a future Lightroom upgrade.

Might be a good area for a third-party plugin (hint, hint).
Luc Renambot had a working prototype (on Mac, for one model at least - maybe more) but never reached the finish line for some reason.
PS - exiftool can decode focus point info for most cameras, so it's not a matter of difficult-to-acquire or missing info.
Maybe just not quite enough bang for buck - dunno.
Work-around for mean time (Nikon example) - keep ViewNX open and invoke script to open file in ViewNX if you wanna view focus point(s) - examples:
    Simple Lightroom script:
no plugin required, but if you prefer plugin:
One keystroke sequence and you're there - focus points a-blazin'..
Also, ExifMeta makes focus points available for lib filters and/or smart collections - all cameras (supports custom decoding in case you want to create a text pattern which mirrors graphical representation, or just make it easier to read..).
Not as convenient as you'd like - I know...

  • Problem Converting Canon CR2 Files to DNG

I am currently on holiday, shooting photos with my Canon 70D in raw (CR2), and I have my Macbook Air with me, with Lightroom 5.4 installed on it.  After each day's shooting, I have been putting the flash card from the camera into the laptop, and downloading the photos using Lightroom, converting the CR2 files to DNG in the process.  This was working fine until a couple of days ago when suddenly, Lightroom has decided that it can no longer do the conversion.  It displays the photos on the card, it allows me to choose the ones I want to download, and then it tells me that it cannot convert/download them because it cannot read the files.  Well, if it cannot read the files, how can it display them so that I can make my choices?  And why, after working successfully for weeks, am I suddenly getting this error message ... nothing has changed in my hardware or software in either the camera or computer.  Any and all help would be most appreciated.  Thank you!!

Thanks very much for the answer, but I'm afraid it is not very enlightening ... at least to someone like me.  I do not understand where I would look for a write permission issue ... especially since nothing has changed (as far as I know).  Can you give me any further help?  Thanks!

  • Converting Canon .CR2 files to .dng

I have what appears to be the latest version of the Adobe DNG Converter (8.6.0.254); but when I direct it to a folder containing .CR2 files from my Canon PowerShot G7X camera, it tells me "No items match your search" and does no conversion. How can I convert this type of RAW file to .DNG?

I don't understand your question. Here is what I do in the Digital Negative Converter:
    - Step 1 is "Select the images to convert"; I click on "Select folder" and navigate to the folder containing a .CR2 file
    - in that window, I see "No items match your search." even though it contains a .CR2 file from my Canon camera. Whether I then click on Select or Cancel makes no difference, since the program does not recognize any files.
    - If despite that, I click on Convert, I receive an error message "The source folder does not contain any supported camera raw files."
In other words, .CR2 raw files are not being recognized by the latest released production version of the converter.

  • Unable to convert my canon cr2 files to DNG

I cannot convert my caonon 1200d cr2 files for DNG on my vista machine as the latest version of adobe raw convertor will not run on my vista machine/..@

Your CR2 files require Adobe Camera Raw 8.4 or higher and as you have discovered ACR8.4 is not compatible with older operating systems.
ACR8.3 was the final update to raw support for Windows XP, Windows Vista or Mac OSX 10.6.
You should have a copy of Canon DPP with your EOS utility disks. You will need to install and use that, until you get a new computer. You can convert CR2 into tiff or go straight to jpeg, using DPP.

  • Soft Focus Images From Canon EOS 1D Mark IIn

I am viewing soft focus issues with my RAW CR2 files coming from the above camera body. I accidentally opened a file in Canon's Digital Photo Professional and it was razor sharp compared to Aperture. A few historical facts. I have had the camera body calibrated to my multiple L lenses several times. I am using the latest firmware for the camera at 1.1.2 and the latest version of the OS at 10.4.10, Aperture 1.5.4, and DPP at 3.0.2. I have used another identical body model with one of my lenses with the same results. I have viewed this issue on several Macs and displays. I have done controlled sample shots using a Digital Imaging Box where the camera is mounted firmly to it with a two second timer to avoid camera shake and controlled lighting with the same results. This all leads me to how Aperture is handling the CR2 file. Now I am talking about viewing only at 100% magnification. There is NO adjustments done at this point which should rule out the RAW processor engine. Like you all I have moved my entire VERY LARGE library and complete workflow to Aperture and now have serious doubts if I can use this awesome application. Has anyone else experienced this? I have tried Apple directly, other forums, other photographers, etc. with no real answer. Since this is my first post, I can not figure out how to attach screen captures so you can clearly see the difference. I can send them via PM if required. All of your help is greatly appreciated!
    Cheers,
    David

What do you mean sharp "out of the camera?"
This is a RAW file? Note JPEG files will almost always be sharper out of the camera than will RAW files. JPEG files have post-processing (color space applied, sharpening applied) out of camera when RAW files do NOT.
It is very likely you have different settings enabled in DPP and Aperture. With Aperture you can do sharpening in the RAW conversion step, or via edge sharpening... and doing a comparison on "sharpness" before you have applied this really makes no sense.
NO RAW files are sharp out of camera (well, unless they're from a MF digital back) because all DSLRs have an anti-aliasing filter in them which purposely blurs images. This is done to eliminate artifacting and to increase the effective resolution of the camera (because note that a 12 MP digital camera actually only has 6 million green, 3 million blue, and 3 million red sensors). It does not have 12 million RGB capable sensors, which requires some math, etc., in camera.

  • How can I convert 400 data points from a spreadsheet file to an array?

The spreadsheet file contains over 5000 data points (in one column) of which I only want the first 400 and want to convert them to an array in Labview. I tried to use the 'readfromspreadsheet' vi but it wasn't much help. Please tell me how i should approach this problem and what vi's to use.

I attach a model vi that you can experiment with. You will need to know the formatting of the data in your file, from there -plus the delimiter- you'll be able to estimate how many characters makes the first 400 data point. It's possible to develop a more robust vi to do this, in the mean time, the attached vi can quickly give some answer.

  • How do I convert a selected nomber of pages from a pdf file?

How do I convert only selected pages of a pdf file?

One way would be to open the PDF with Acrobat XI Pro. Then from Tools - Pages use the feature that supports page extractions to a new PDF.
Use this new PDF as the "source" PDF for Acrobat's File - Save As Other to export to a supported file format.

  • Can no longer create a PDF from a Word file!

Any idea what this is about?  My PDF/Adobe Printer is also suddenly gone.  I don't use it that much but now I can't use it at all!  I assume this is a forum for Acrobat X.  I thought I'd try reinstalling but I can't figure out how.  I know that sounds stupid--and it is.  But I have spent 45 minutes poking around the Adobe website trying to figure out where I can find the download--I upgraded from an earlier version online..  I have only been using X for a year or so.  (This product is hard to love and not cheap either)

Thanks!  Repair failed.  I had to call their tech support and eventually was told to reinstall.  WIth the tech the entire process took onlky about an hour and a half (yes, that long!).  Since I had upgraded to Acrobat X Pro a year ago I fortunately kept a record of the saerial number for the prior version.  Near the end the tech hung up on me when I complained about always having to keep records of prior versions.
I had the revolutionary--and obviously unacceptable--idea that once you buy the upgrade THAT ought to be the end of things.  Why at each reinstall the darned software would search for a prior version--which wouldn't be there anyway, particularly since the older version was on my old computer which I sent to recycling last summer, is a mystery.  It strikes me as a form of harassment since I didn't spring for the full price in lieu of the upgrade.  User-friendly is not a term I would use to describe my years of experience with Adobe.  Even the website is frustrating.  In the process of this reinstall I was promised some sort of gift from Adobe for filling out some profile information.  I'm not holding my breath waiting to find out what my prize will be and whetgher it was worth another few frustrating minutes!  And I have not mentioned the near-inscrutability of the program itself.  What, for example, is "preflight" supposed to mean when it has no connection to air travel?  And "workflow?"  Whazzat?  Well as long as I can create PDF files, add or delete pages, add footers/headers, add some typed text and struggle with redacting that's all I have time to manage.  Don't get me started.  Even my screen name here--it was supposed to have been updated, too--was what I entered a few years ago in a fit of rage in trying to register for this forum (runuz: "Are you nuts?")

  • How to get the last data point from a TDM file in LabVIEW?

    Hello,
I am using LabVIEW to analyze some rather large TDM files, and I need a way to get only the last data point.  So far, the only way I have been able to accomplish this is by reading the entire file.  Is there a property in the TDM file or a function in LabVIEW that will allow me to get the index of the last item in a channel?
    Thanks!
    Christina

Do you want to avoid reading whole file and want to be able to reach or get the index of last value of channel? is there any specific reason? I am not sure you could do it without loading the whole file. But the easiest way would be just to use array functions "array size" would give you the index of last element.

Kudos are (always) welcome for the good post. :-)

  • No longer to import RAW from canon 5d mk ii

I've been repeatedly trying to import RAW+JPEG from my canon 5d mk ii today with no success.  A popup asks me if i'd like to save the "unrecognized files" somewhere, which are the raw files.  Then it imports the jpegs.
I've looked everywhere for the last 3-4 hours and can't find anything.  I'm on a deadline so i downloaded Lightroom and it has no problems.  I'd very much like not to switch over to lightroom ultimately, anyway i'd love to know if anyone has come accross this problem
    I'm on osx 10.7

Could be LR 4.3 does not have the proper Adobe Camera RAW version to see those files.
It is best to take the card out of the camera and put it in a card reader, not sure the iMac's have an SD card slot if not buy a proper card reader, and copy the images off the card into a folder of your chosing (Like a folder name for the date the images where taken). Then open LR and import them into the LR Library.
Make sure you update LR to the most current version.
Not that familiar with Canon cameras but if this a faily new model then maybe Adobe has not updated LR for this particular Canon model.

  • Trouble maintaining original "date taken" info and metadata when exporting TIFFs from original CR2 files.

When exporting TIFFs (from original RAW), I noticed my metadata said the "date created" was the day of export. I want to be able to access the date the original image was taken as opposed to the day I exported it. Is there a way to maintain original date of image taken in my info? I couldn't seem to find it after I exported my TIFFs...

I just tested this with LR 5.5 Mac OS 10.9.3 and it works correctly for me.
    To troubleshoot your problem:
    1. Which version of LR and which platform (Mac, Windows)?
    2. Which tool or command are you using to examine Date Created of the exported TIFF?
    3. Upload a sample TIFF showing the problem to Dropbox or similar and post the URL here. This will allow us to take a look in detail.

  • DNG Converter Not Recognizing .CR2 Files

I have a new Canon EOS 5D Mark II and CS3, so I cannot view the CR2 files from the 5D in Bridge in their native format.  I read all the posts and upgraded to ACR 4.6, then upgraded the camera profiles to those in the ACR 5.2 package (the one that includes the 5D Mark II).
I then read that I need the DNG Converter to generate DNG files from the CR2 files, so I have installed DNG 6.3.
Problem now is that the DNG Converter will not recognize any CR2 files on my machine, neither the new 5D Mark II CR2 files of my old Rebel CR2 files.  When I navigate to a folder containing CR2 files with DNG it says "No images have been selected" in the "Select images to convert" section of the GUI.
I have no idea what to do, I need to get the DNG Converter working to view the files from my new camera in Bridge.  Help!

I wish I could say your solution worked - but it didn't! I have a Canon T2i, the very latest version of the  Adobe "converter" (8.4) - and it refuses to recognize/find any Canon RAW (i.e. CR2) files. My desktop is 2 years old with lot of horsepower, Win 7, plain vanilla etc.
Step 1: Folder Selected ("Bonaire 2006")
    folder selected.jpg
    2. When I press "Convert", I get:
    No CR2 files recognized.jpg
    Another view of the problem:
after getting this: (BTW "Bonaire" is stuffed with CR2 files). Same problem all folders
no items match your search - say what.jpg
I've used a thousand utility programs for any number of purposes - something is amiss here - prompts or not!

  • Canon CR2 custom settings not transferring to converted DNG file

    Hi,
First post & using 8.6 on Mac OSX 10.9.4 shooting Canon 1Dx.
After years of sucessfully converting Canon CR2 files with custom settings to DNG for archiving, just recently I’ve been having an issue where the actual settings aren’t transferring or being recognised.
It used to work easy & fast by just selecting the Canon CR2 files with their sidecars and drag/dropping straight onto the DNG Converter which I have sitting in the dock, then hit the convert button.
Yes, the files still convert to DNG but no custom settings. The file is like the original unprocessed raw image
    Any solutions anyone?

    Thank you everyone, much appreciated.
After posting last night I thought about reproducing the same issue on my laptop (MacBook Pro) as I run the same software (PS CC 2014, ACR 8.6, DNG Converter 8.6) and workflow as on my main Mac.
And yes, the problem is definitely reproducible.
Then had a lightbulb moment by downloading & trying an earlier version of DNG converter (v8.5)
Voila! Lo & behold the problem is gone. 8.5 is king
So I’m with you ssprengal, it appears DNG 8.6 is somewhat buggy when it comes to transferring/recognizing customised settings in the way I normally do it.
(ie drag drop CR2 + Sidecars onto DNG Converter)
FYI, when editing CR2 files direct in the ACR 8.6 dialogue window I can convert to DNG with settings intact....but for me that workflow holds up ACR for eding on other work
    FYI_2
Usual editing workflow goes like this:-
Edit CR2 files direct in ACR 8.6
Save files as Jpegs, Tiff etc or whatever client needs
    Hide or quit ACR
Go to folder where CR2 & sidecar files are.
Select all, drag drop onto DNG converter
    Press convert
I run this workflow only so it frees up ACR for further editing (say on a different job)
Some jobs run into hundreds of final images, so efficiency is key.
ACR works while the DNG converter is working (on other files) in the background.
